2.C
W: These shoes are looking very untidy. Even when I clean them, they look bad. I think I’ll buy some new ones this afternoon.
M: If I were you, I would wait until Saturday. The sales start then, so you might get them cheaper.
3.A
M: Where are the eggs
W: We’ve run out. You could have toast for breakfast. We also have cheese.
M: Oh no! You know how much I like my usual breakfast.
4.B
M: Jane, suppose you lost all your money while taking a vacation overseas--what would you do
W: Well, I guess I’d sell my watch or computer or do some odd jobs until I could afford a return plane ticket.
5.B
W: It’s 3: 10. My train doesn’t leave for 20 minutes. Do you want another coffee

M: This thing isn’t going to erupt, is it
W: No, don’t worry.
M: When you said we were going climbing, I thought you meant a hill or a snow mountain.
W: Relax. It hasn’t erupted for 100 years, although there was a bad earthquake five decades ago.
M: That kind of thing happens near volcanoes.
W: We’ll be fine. I’ve been doing this climb for the past 10 years and nothing has happened.
M: The ground is getting warmer.
W: Yes, when we get to the top, we’ll be able to look inside and see the smoke rising.
8.C 9.B 10.A

M: Why would I need to give you my credit card number That doesn’t make sense.
W: We need the number so we can put you in our computer system. Then we’re able to send you the check.
M: I’m not sure about this. I’d rather just give you my address.
W: I’m sorry, sir, but we also have to have your credit card number in order to send you the money.
M: Okay, then I’m going to hang up. Have a nice day.
W: Sir, wait! This is a real contest. We’d like to send you the prize money.

W: Because of COVID 19, many new methods are being formed for social communication. However, there is one older method that is becoming popular again. It is called the drive-in movie theater, or more commonly, a drive-in. Drive-ins began around 1915, the first being in New Mexico. The idea soon spread around the country. Six years later, Texas opened their first drive-in and New Jersey opened their first in1933. Drive-ins are a way to watch movies without being packed into a movie theater. Drive-ins play a movie on a large screen, usually in a parking lot or an open space. Being able to sit in your own car and watch a movie can be a more pleasant experience for most people. Unfortunately, most drive-ins failed in the past 20 years. Because more people moved into the cities, the suburban drive-in didn’t have a reliable customer base. Cities don’t have open spaces big enough to operate these theaters, either. Another reason is that the high oil prices also make people drive less. Before COVID 19, drive-ins consisted of only 1. 5%of all movie screens in the USA, which is a huge drop from when they made up over 25% during their peak. Currently, drive-ins are making their return. Now with better technology, the movie picture will be much better than when drive-ins were at their most popular time. People feel safer about sitting in their own cars while watching, rather than sitting in a theater.

根据“LOVE it or hate it, there is no escape from Internet slang.(爱也好,恨也罢,网络俚语无处不在)”及“These days, if they haven’t caught up with the latest popular Internet slang(如今,如果他们还没有跟上最新流行的网络俚语)”可知,网络俚语很流行,如果他们还没有跟上最新流行的网络俚语,他们很可能会觉得自己不知道社交媒体上的信息。
根据第三段“Take these posts by The Washington Post for example: “David Bowie dying is totes tradge” and “When Cookie hugged Jamal it made me totes emosh.”What on earth do these mean Well, “totes” is a short form of the adverb “totally”.
根据倒数第二段“Her view is backed up by two linguists, Lauren Spradlin and Taylor Jones, from the City University of New York and the University of Pennsylvania respectively. The two believe that totes-speak is a highly-organized system that can only be used by speakers who have mastered English pronunciation.(她的观点得到了纽约城市大学和宾夕法尼亚大学两位语言学家Lauren Spradlin和Taylor Jones的支持。
根据最后一段“Totesing is about sounds, and it follows the sometimes-complicated sound system of English,” Jones told The Washington Post. “Totesing is not random. On the contrary, it has strict rules to follow. You need to be very fluent in the English language to be able to understand totes-speak.”(Jones告诉《华盛顿邮报》:“Totesing是关于声音的,它遵循的是很复杂的英语声音系统。

根据第二段“Technology should not be allowed to drive people to the side of their own lives, as many facts suggest is increasingly the case. For example, there have been reports that some elderly people no longer drive to their local park, because they cannot download the parking app required.”(不应允许技术让人们放弃自己的生活,正如许多事实所表明的那样,情况越来越严重。 故选A项。
根据第二段“Evidently, age is one big predictor of digital exclusion.”(显然,年龄是数字排斥的一个重要预测因素)、第三段“Concerns about privacy can stop people using technology as well.”(对隐私的担忧也会阻止人们使用技术)及第三段“Some people view “forced” digitalization as a symbol of consumer culture and limit their contact with it; also, many people take a “less is more” approach to technology simply because they feel it offers a more meaningful existence.”(一些人将“被迫”数字化视为消费文化的象征,并限制了他们与之的接触;此外,许多人对技术采取“少即是多”的态度,仅仅是因为他们觉得它提供了一种更有意义的存在)可知,文章提出了解释数字排斥现象的三个因素为年龄、隐私和态度,C项“性别”没有提到。故选C项。
根据最后一段“While there’s a need to provide affordable Internet access and technology, we need to recognize diversity in society. Services should provide non-digital selections that reflect equality.”(虽然需要提供负担得起的互联网接入和技术,但我们需要认识到社会的多样性。
通读全文,并根据第一段“We take it for granted that technology brings us closer and improve our access to essential products and services. But people who can’t or don’t want to engage with the latest technology are being left behind.”(我们理所当然地认为,技术拉近了我们的距离,改善了我们获得基本产品和服务的机会。

36.根据上文“Created by the AI program Midjourney, the photos were highly realistic, from the characters’ movements to the surroundings. 以及后文“The Washington Post’s technology writer Shira Ovide shared her tips. The main idea is to spot the glitches-anything that would look strange in a photo.
37.根据后文“It sometimes can create hands with more than five fingers. This is because AI isn’t sure what a “hand” exactly is, according to Popular Science. The data Al uses to learn often show hands and fingers in different kinds of gestures, which can be very confusing for AI.
38.根据上文“AI-generated images also usually contain details that contradict reality.
39.根据上文“Another thing AI is terrible at handling is the background. If there’s a crowd in the image, people’s faces in the background are usually unclear.
40.根据上文“The development of AI-generated art also raises alarm bells about how these fake images could be used to spread misinformation. 以及后文“Jamie Cohen, a digital culture and AI expert in the US, argued that generating an AI artwork is to “create reality”. He added that being able to tell whether the work is real or not requires high media literacy skills. “The world may not be ready for how realistic the images have become,” Shane Kittelson, a US researcher, told The Washington Post.

“Hey, you! What are you doing ” shouted Max. As fast as he could, Max ran towards the boys. Hearing his shouts, the frightened boys ran even faster. “Stop! Stop!” Max shouted as he kept running. The boys ran to the corner. There was a bus coming. They had to stop. They turned around and saw Max, whose long coat was blowing in the wind. He looked more like a Batman, or a Superman. The boys were so scared that they left the cart and quickly disappeared into the crowd.
Max grasped the shopping cart and pushed it back to the car park of the supermarket. The little old lady was still waiting anxiously outside her car. The store manager had come. It was quite clear that the lady had been deeply frightened. The manager was trying to comfort her. Max walked up to her and said regrettably, “I couldn’t catch the bad boys, but here is your shopping.” “Oh, thank you!” the lady said. “You are a hero.” Max’s face turned red. Though he didn’t think of himself as a hero, he really felt proud of himself.
