________________________________
Scientists think that there has been life on the earth for hundreds of millions of years. However, we have not found life on any other planets yet.
1. Anyone out there
The earth is a planet and it goes around the sun. Seven other planets also go around the sun. None of them has an environment like that of the earth, so scientists do not think they will find life on them. The sun and its planets are called the solar system, and our solar system is a small part of a much larger group of stars and planets, called the Galaxy or the Milky Way.
There are billions of stars in the Galaxy, and
our sun is only one of them.
Scientists have also discovered many other galaxies in the universe. They are very far away and their light has to travel for many years to reach us. So how large is the universe It is impossible to imagine.
Scientists have sent spaceships to the planet Mars to take photos. They have even
sent spaceships to travel outside the solar system. However, no spaceship has travelled far enough to reach other stars in our Galaxy.
Scientists have always asked the questions: with so many stars in the universe, are we alone, or is there life out there in space Have there been visitors to the earth from other planets Why has no one communicated with us We do not know the answers... yet.

We have just received a message from our spaceship to Mars…
We have just received a message from our spaceship to Mars. Our spaceship has discovered aliens there. They have never sent us a message because they don't know how to communicate with us. They have not visited the earth because they don't know how to fly to our planet, and they prefer life on Mars. They seem very happy on their own planet. They have used parts from the other spaceships from the earth to make TVs, radios, etc. We hope they don't do the same with this one!

2. The earth is a planet and it goes around the sun. Seven other planets also go around the sun.
2) go around 运转
例:The earth goes around the Sun.
Let's go around the town, not through it.
3) other/the other/others/another
other其它的(人或物), 后面经常跟可数名词复数形式;
例:We haven’t found life on other planets yet.
the other(两者中的)另一个,后面不可能跟复数形式;
例:He has two daughters. One is a teacher, the other is a doctor.
others其它的人或物(已经包括在内), 后面不能跟名词,本身就含有名词的含义;
例:Some people came by car, others came on foot.
another(三者以上中的,或不知道数量的)另一个, 后面也不可跟复数形式。
例:Would you like another cup of tea
4) also adv.
She speaks French and German and also a little Russian.
He is young and good-looking, and also very rich.
I teach five days a week and I also teach evening classes.
比较:also/too/as well
also, too, as well都指句中有关词语与前面提到的事物相结合或相一致,这三个词语的雅俗程度和在句中的位置有所不同。
I’ve met Jane and I’ve also met her mother.
She was rich, and she was also selfish.
too和as well比较通俗,通常用于从句的句尾。
例:I’ve read the book and I’ve seen the film as well/too.
3. None of them has an environment like that
of the earth…
None of them has been to Beijing.
None of them were aware of the danger.
None of the money is his.
4. ... and our solar system is a small part of a much larger group of stars and planets, called the Galaxy or the Milky Way.
这里的the Galaxy专指“银河系”,也可以 称作the Milky Way。
Scientists have discovered a distant galaxy.
本句中called the Galaxy or the Milky Way为过去分词短语做定语,修饰a much larger group of stars and planets。
They have a two-year-old son called Mike.
5. However, no spaceship has travelled far
enough to reach other stars in our Galaxy.
形容词/副词 + enough to do表示“到达……
He is old enough to go to school.
He got up early enough to catch the first bus.
6. ... with so many stars in the universe, are
we alone, or is there life out there in space
这里with so many stars in the universe是介 词短语,在句中作状语。
With so many things to do, we have no time
to play.
alone adj.

比较:alone/lonely
Although I’m alone, I don’t feel lonely.

1. To summarize and consolidate the use of present perfect tense with just, yet and already;

Scientists have sent spaceship to Mars. The journey has taken several months.
Revision
Astronauts have already been to the moon.
No one has been to Mars yet, because Mars is very far away, much farther than the moon.
Scientists have also discovered many other galaxies in the universe.
Scientists have sent spaceship to the planet Mars to take photos. They have even sent spaceships to travel outside the solar system.
No spaceship has travelled far enough to reach other stars in our Galaxy.
Look at the underlined parts and think about them.
1. I’ve just made a model spaceship.
2. Has it arrived yet
3. Astronauts have already been to
the moon.
4. We have not found life on any
other planets yet.
Grammar
I have just heard the news.
Astronauts have already been to the moon.
He has just started to explore other planets.
The scientists have not heard from it yet.
Man has not discovered any life in space yet.
I have just been to London. I went there last month.
I have already finished my homework. I finished it an hour ago.
A: Where have you put my book
I can’t find it.
B: I put it on your desk yesterday.
A: Would you like to go and see the film with me tonight
B: Sorry, I have seen it already.
【辨析】have been to 与 have gone to
(1)have gone to表示“已到达某地”。
例:—Where is Jim 吉姆在哪里?
—He has gone to Beijing
(2)have been to表示“曾经去过某地”。 也可和just、never和ever等连用。
例:I have been to Beijing twice.
I have been in Shanghai for three years.

Around the world
Names of the days of the week
Many European languages use the names of the heavenly bodies for the days of the week. For example, in English, Saturday is named after the planet Saturn, the sixth planet from the sun. Sunday is the day of the sun, a traditional day of rest. Monday gets its name from the moon and is the day of the moon.
Sunday(星期日):这是一周中的第一天。
Monday(星期一):这是一周中的第二天。
Tuesday(星晴二):这是一周中的第三天。
Friday(星期五):是以爱神的名字命名的。
Saturday(星期六):这是一周中的第七天。
