Using the few resources he could get—wood, nails and a bucket—Stephen designed and built a simple but functional washing station. We don’t know how different our life will be in the future. We can only try to imagine it.
At first we think about human relationships. In the year 2050, we will use computers almost every day. We will be making new friends through the Internet even our husbands or wives will be met in this way. It will be much faster and easier for us. On the other hand, our relationships with people won’t be as important as they are today -- we will feel a little lonely.
Computers will also help us in many other activities in 2050. For example, they will be used by the children at school to make their learning easier. In addition, there will be much more other machines which will play a similar role as computers, like robots which will do the housework for us.
Spending holidays will also be completely different. Travelling to other planets or to the moon will be available for everyone. Means of transport will, of course, change, too. We will be using solar-powered cars, which will be much more environmentally friendly.
We could expect that the faster technological progress would lead to a more polluted environment. But it isn’t true. We will pay more attention to the environment protection. Scientists will probably find cures for many dangerous diseases, like cancer or AIDS. Therefore, our surroundings as well as our health will be in better condition.
Although we can’t predict the exact changes which will be made in the world, we often think about them. We worry about our and our children’s future; we have expectations, hopes as well as fears. But I think we should be rather sanguine about our future. We should be happy and believe good things will happen.
8. Why will people probably feel a little lonely in 2050
A. The number of people will become much smaller.
B. There will be less face-to-face communication.
C. People won’t like making friends with each other.
D. People won’t communicate with each other much often.
9. What does paragraph 3 mainly tell us
A. Computers will do all the things for human beings.
B. How people will use computers to communicate with each other.
C. Machines like computers and robots will help people a lot.
D. How people will use robots to do the housework.
10. What does the underlined word “ sanguine” in the last paragraph most probably mean
A. Disappointed. B. Surprised.
C. Curious. D. Optimistic.
11. What does the text mainly talk about
A. How people will communicate in the year 2050.
B. What our life will be like in the year 2050.
C. How people will travel and spend their holidays in the year 2050.
D. What high technology will appear in the year 2050.

Susan Sontag (1933—2004) was one of the most noticeable figures in the world of literature. For more than 40 years she made it morally necessary to know everything—to read every book worth reading, to see every movie worth seeing. When she was still in her early 30s, publishing essays in such important magazines as Partisan Review, she appeared as the symbol of American culture life, trying hard to follow every new development in literature, film and art. With great effort and serious judgment, Sontag walked at the latest edges of world culture.
Seriousness was one of Sontag’s lifelong watchwords (格言), but at a time when the barriers between the well-educated and the poor-educated were obvious, she argued for a true openness to the pleasure of pop culture. In “Notes Camp”, the 1964 essay that first made her name, she explained what was then a little—known set of difficult understandings, through which she could not have been more famous.“Notes on Camp”, she wrote, represents “a victory of ‘form’ over ‘content’, ‘beauty’ over ‘morals’ ”.
By conviction (信念) she was a sensualist (感觉论者), but by nature she was a moralist (伦理学者), and in the works she published in the 1970s and 1980s, it was the latter side of her that came forward. In “Illness as Metaphor”—published in 1978, after she suffered cancer—she argued against the idea that cancer was somehow a special problem of repressed personalities(被压抑的性格), a concept that effectively blamed the victim for the disease. In fact, re-examining old positions was her lifelong habit.
In America, her story of a 19th century Polish actress who set up a perfect society in California, won the National Book Award in 2000. But it was as a tireless, all-purpose cultural view that she made her lasting fame.
“Sometimes” she once said,“I feel that, in the end, all I am really defending…is the idea of seriousness, of true seriousness.”And in the end, she made us take it seriously too.

B. her lifelong watchword: seriousness
C. publishing books on morals
D. enjoying books worth reading and movies worth seeing
15. From works Susan published in the 1970s and 1980s,we can learn that _____.

Teenagers are especially likely to suffer loneliness. Here are some suggestions for speeding a recovery from loneliness.
Reach out to others, but start small. A smile and a friendly greeting for the student behind you in line at the cafeteria won’t make you best friends. ____21____ It also can make it easier to interact the next time.
Find a safe place to make connections. If going to the school dance makes you feel like you just don’t belong, try joining a special interest group. Maybe it’s the drama club or the marching band. ____22____
Find other ways of making connections. Lonely people hunger for acceptance and friendship. Sometimes feeling accepted and liked comes more easily when you do something for others. ____23____ Teach a child in reading. Take notes for a disabled classmate. You might be surprised at the connections you make after reaching out in these ways.
____24____ Loneliness is an absence of quality friendships, not of a particular quantity of friends. That’s why it’s important to know how to select a friend. The best friendships are those based on similar values and attitudes.
You get what you expect, so expect the best. If you expect others to be friendly, you will behave in similar ways.
____25____ It goes away as teens learn how to find their way through their social world and connect with others.
A. But it will make you both feel pretty good.

“Sometimes,” she once said,“I feel that, in the end, all I am really defending…is the idea of seriousness, of true seriousness.”And in the end, she made us take it seriously too.

根据上文“If you’re planning to travel overseas, the most common form of transportation is by airplane.(如果你计划出国旅行,最常见的交通方式是乘飞机)”可知,上文提到了坐飞机,后文则是对飞行过程的说明,故F选项“了解整个飞行过程可以确保您旅途愉快”符合语境,故选F。
根据后文“You have to pay attention to the time, because the airline claims clearly that the flight stops check-in 30 minutes before departure, so you’d better be at the airport 1 hour before departure time.(你要注意时间,因为航空公司明确表示航班在起飞前30分钟停止办理登机手续,所以你最好在起飞前1小时到达机场)”可知,本空是对到达飞机场注意事项的概括。
根据上文“Boarding procedures (that is, boarding pass). When you arrive, you usually check your bags at the main ticket counter.(登机手续(即登机牌)。当你到达时,你通常在主售票柜台检查你的包)”可知,本段主要是关于登记手续的说明,且上文提到了检查包,G选项中“having your air tickets and identity cards checked”对应上文中“check your bags”。
You have to pass through the security checkpoint, where you will have to walk through an X-ray machine. Of course, this is for everyone’s safety.(通过安检。你必须通过安检,在那里你必须通过X光机。当然,这是为了大家的安全)”以及后文“then you will go to the designated boarding area and gate to wait for your plane.(然后您将前往指定的登机区和登机口等待您的飞机)”可知,本段主要是说明过安检的流程,D选项中“checkpoint“对应上文中”checkpoint”。

B. So consider becoming a volunteer.

A 22. G 23. B 24. E 25. F
故选A项。
根据上文“If going to the school dance makes you feel like you just don't belong, try joining a special interest group. Maybe it's the drama club or the marching band.(如果参加学校的舞会让你觉得自己不属于这里,试着加入一个特殊兴趣的小组。也许是戏剧俱乐部或者军乐队)”可知,如果学校舞会这样的场合使你没有归属感,不好融入,那么参加兴趣小组应该使人放松,有安全感,这些团队会让你慢慢地放松下来。G项“寻找一个能让你慢慢地、愉快地加入的群体”与本段小标题中的“a safe place”呼应。故选G项。
【23题详解】
本段主要讲述的是通过做其他的事情,让自己得到别人的认可来消除孤单,根据横线后两句“Teach a child in reading. Take notes for a disabled classmate. (教孩子阅读。为残疾同学做笔记)”可知,教孩子阅读,为残疾同学记笔记,这些都是志愿者工作的具体建议。B项“所以考虑成为一名志愿者”符合上下文。故选B项。
【24题详解】
该空作为段首句应该是概括全段,并且应该是一条新的建议,多为祈使句。根据下文“Loneliness is an absence of quality friendships, not of a particular quantity of friends. That's why it's important to know how to select a friend. The best friendships are those based on similar values and attitudes.(孤独是缺乏高质量的友谊,而不是特定数量的朋友。这就是为什么要知道如何选择朋友是很重要的。最好的友谊建立在相似的价值观和态度上)”可知,选择合适的朋友在战胜孤独方面作用很大,应该选择和自己价值观人生态度相似的朋友,所以E项“选择合适的人”与本段内容相符合。故选E项。
【25题详解】
根据空后“It goes away as teens learn how to find their way through their social world and connect with others.(当青少年学会如何在他们的社会交往中找到自己的方法与他人交往时,它就消失了)”可知,作者认为青少年通过学习,孤独感终究会消失,也就是说孤独都是暂时的。
