1.Analysis of the text What: The text describes scenes of joy in which Luo Yan returns to his hometown with his wife and son to celebrate the Spring Festival with his parents. Modern means of transportation make it easier for young people to visit their parents. Traditional folk activities, such as paper cuttings and New Year paintings, render the cheerful atmosphere of the New Year. From individuals to the small family and then to the big family of the motherland, the text is a good interpretation of the concept of "home is the smallest country, and the country is thousands of homes". Why: Through the description of the scene of the main character's family celebrating the Spring Festival, the text vividly shows the life,concepts, thoughts and feelings of the Chinese people in the new era. How: The text is a feature article, which introduces a series of traditional activities of Chinese families in the way of narration. The author conveys the meaning of culture and the concept of home and looks forward to inheriting the spirit of the Chinese nation.
2.Analysis of students The target students are in Senior 1 and have a certain reading ability. Students at this level usually focus on the study of language itself. They have basic abilities of listening, reading,speaking and writing, so they can get some detailed information from the text. But most of them lack reading strategies and know little about customs of some traditional festivals.Meanwhile, their critical thinking skill remains to be further cultivated.
3.Teaching Objectives By the end of the class, students will be able to: 1.grasp the content and main idea of the article 2. learn about the reading techniques: skimming, scanning and put them into actual reading task. 3. highlight the concept of "home" behind the festival and enhance awareness of inheriting and carrying forward Chinese culture.

Step 2 While-reading 1.Skimming:Let students skim the passage to find out the main idea of each paragraph and match. 2.Scanning:Read for some specific information and complete the chart. 3.T further asks the following questions when asking ss to fill in the blanks.
