Besides, in 1845 Poe wrote The Raven, and gained some recognition, but he still was never able to get rid of poverty. In 1847, Poe’s wife, Virginia, died. Two years later, in 1849, Poe passed away.

B 中
At the start of my ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )junior year, I was deep in the pressure which didn’t come from adults, but came from other high schoolmates in my class. Everyone in my grade had the college on the brain. In order to get into the ideal college, we all believed we should make good use of time to work harder than everyone else. Because sleeping time was not the time that we could get for the study of SAT (学术能力评估测试).
I used to be surr ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )ounded by the pressure. I used to believe that if I wasn’t among the top students in my class, I wasn’t doing that enough. I was easy to get angry and I couldn’t focus my attention on the things that I was doing; I stopped talking to my friends, or to my mom, and I couldn’t figure out who I was. I didn’t touch my computer or chat with my friends online. And I didn’t have the confidence to know whether my own love and skills could make me have the opportunity to go to the college.
Fortunately, I rea ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )lized what colleges wanted was not masking who I was. I decided to show my advantages and stay away from the crazy pressure I was putting on myself.
Instead of forcing m ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )yself into higher levels of math, I participated in an extra history class. Instead of forcing myself to do more homework that I hated, I cut back and focused on the things that I loved. I learned how to love what I was doing instead of the things that I was supposed to do. I learned to shine as an individual, not a faceless member. And I found that this was better for my happiness and also made me more effective when I studied.
To me, individua ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )lity means having the confidence to decide who I am and who I want to be. I am myself, and ready to apply for the college than ever.21·cn·jy·com

Growing up in Pitts ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )burgh with my parents from India, I lived with deep love and great expectations from my parents in my childhood. There would be no sleepovers. There would be lots of SAT and college preparations. I would listen to elders and of course was not allowed to go out with boys until I was about to get married.
I did well in ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )school and was often known as a quiet voice in the classroom. Hardworking, bookish and soft spoken—these are not the things that most middle school students have.
Then, at the ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )age of 15, I decided I wanted to change that. I had my heart set on becoming class president. It was the most exciting thing I had ever done. I practiced my student union speech night after night and asked friends to support me. It wasn’t easy, not even a little bit. Giving my class president speech was the most difficult and most important moment of my 15 short years.
But I wasn’t chosen. ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )I got fewer than 20% of the votes and wasn’t even elected to be a class representative. Of course, it felt like the sort of failure I’d never get out of and I believed I wasn’t good enough to succeed in anything.
Though it was difficul ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )t for me to run for class president, it was an important moment for me. It taught me about courage and that sometimes I won’t win, but more importantly, I’ll never win if I don’t believe in myself enough to run for class president.
In the end, I found my ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com ) position in high school and became the president of Future Business Leaders of America and an editor for the school newspaper. Young as I was, that role helped me share different voices about the student community, leading me to the work I do today as a CEO, consultant and author.
People talk ab ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )out the importance of believing in yourself all the time, but it’s not so easy for us to do so. We can’t just stand out when it’s easy or comfortable or when things are going well. We have to stand out bravely when things seem to be too difficult.

The black-throat ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )ed robin (知更鸟) is one of the world’s rarest robins. In 2011, experts saw a small number of male black-throated robins in China. But now they have seen a female and a breeding pair of black-throated robins, learning more about their behavior.21cnjy.com
The black-throated ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )robin is closely related to another world’s most mysterious bird, the firethroat. The firethroat is also a type of robin. It lives in forests in China, and has also been found in Myanmar, Bhutan and Bangladesh. The names of them show male black-throated robins have black throats, while male firethroats have red throats. Researchers thought the two had the same grand-parents before. However, a study in 2013 confirmed that black-throated robins and firethroats are separate species. 2-1-c-n-j-y
In the late 19th ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )century, about 10 black-throated robins were collected in two places in Shaanxi and Gansu provinces in July and August. The season was thought to be the birds’ breeding season. Since then, there have been very few records of the species.
In 2011, researche ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )rs documented 14 males, recording the birds’ singing. Since then, they have managed to spot black-throated robins, including a breeding female on many occasions in three places and a nest with two chicks. Many of the birds were found living in forests full of bamboo, because they like bamboos. In total, 58 adult black-throated robins have now been observed since the species was first discovered in 1886.
However, the robin ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )is hard to be seen, and the scientists admit they would not have noticed the birds if they had not been singing. “The song is beautiful,” the researchers wrote these words in their latest description of the robin’s rediscovery. The robin also appears to be good at mimicking the sounds of other birds.
Their studie ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )s in 2013 have greatly increased our understanding of the black-throated robins. For the first time, the experts confirmed what a female black-throated robin looked like. The discovery of a breeding pair also confirmed that both parents cared for their kids, feeding their chicks flies, butterflies and other insects.
41. From Paragraph 2, researchers thought that ______.
A. firethroats were not a type of robin
B. the robins and firethroats looked the same
C. firethroats were strangers to the robins
D. the robins and firethroats were the same species
42. What does Paragraph 3 tell us about black-throated robins
A. They were once said to have died out.
B. They were first seen in the early 20th century.
C. They have h ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )ardly been seen by humans since the late 19th century
D. They h ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )ave different breeding seasons from other birds at that time.
43. Researchers d ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )ocumented the black-throated robins in 2011 by _____.
