Mum’s Place

YumYum Restaurant
Situated in the beautiful Shangri-La Hotel, Yum Yum Restaurant is among the locals’ many favourite spots to dine at. It offers an interesting Nyonya and Thai food with Chinese influences that make them stand out. The classic dishes include sambal petai prawns, assam fish head and Yum Yum egg. It can get crowded here, so it’d be best to head there early or call ahead for reservations.
Troika Sky Dining
Offering fine dining, the impressive Troika Sky Dining undoubtedly stands out from the pack. Set on the 23rd floor of Tower B of The Troika, it goes without saying that the cloud-skimming views here are something else entirely. The food is what helped it stand out. It serves award-winning French, Italian, Greek, and Spanish food and adventurous menu of high-end pizzas and pasta.

Lose to Win
Directed by Gao Hu, Lose to Win is a Chinese remake of the 2018 Spanish film Champions, which is targeted toward audiences seeking lighthearted entertainment. The narrative centers on a conceited (自负的) basketball coach assigned to train a team of players with learning disabilities as part of his community service. Lose to Win opens across China on Sept. 28.
Moscow Mission
Moscow Mission, an explosive action film by Herman Yau, follows a cross-border manhunt, showing a horrible robbery and rape on a Moscow-bound train from Beijing. Inspired by true events from 1993, Yau has said how many of the scenes are nothing like he’s ever shot in his career previously as well as some he never imagined he’d film. Moscow Mission debuts in Chinese theaters on Sept. 29.

RHOSSILI BAY
Voted the best beach in Wales and third in the UK, this is a must-swim. This impressive stretch of Celtic coastline, shaped like a giant sea snake, offers three miles of breathtaking views. It’s also a wildlife shelter, with a variety of cliff-nesting birds. Tides can be violent though, so if the sea looks rough, don’t swim.

Formerly known as At-Bristol, this harbourside science museum relaunched in 2017 as We The Curious to better reflect its mission to get kids to ask questions and engage in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (Stem subjects) in creative ways.
Best things about it
My kids don’t shy away from telling me if they think a museum is boring but here they were too busy rushing from one hands-on exhibit to the next to have any such complaint. They dressed up as bees to catch pollen (花粉) made cheese, watched ice form, weighed human brains and stretched out strips of DNA to compare the genetic sequence (基因序列) of a monkey and an armadillo.
Value for money
Given that the science museums in London, Manchester and Newcastle are free, it does jar (不一致) having to pay 14.50 for adults and 9.50 for kids (aged 3—15) to get in. Kids under 3 are free. I did have to push them out the door at the end of the day. Weeks on, they still refer back to things they learnt there.
Getting there
We The Curious is near the National Cycle Network (routes 3, 4, and 33). The museum has lots of bicycle parking. Alternatively, it’s a 10-minute walk from Bristol Temple Meads railway station or a five-minute taxi ride or 17-minute ferry ride. If driving, follow the We The Curious brown signs and park at the Millennium Square car park for free.

Walt Disney celebrates its 100th anniversary with a cartoon that includes the themes and animation styles of the studio’s first century. Directed by Chris Buck (co-director of Frozen) and Fawn Veerasunthorn, Mish is a musical fairy tale set in a magical land where King Magnifico(Chris Pine) can grant his citizens’ wishes. But a 17-year-old girl, Asha (Ariana DeBose), questions whether the king should keep that power all to himself. She wishes on a star-and the star then falls from the sky to help her. Buck told Jackson Murphy at Animation Scoop that the film is “kind of our love letter to Disney, to Walt.”

Ridley Scott’s 28th film is an epic biopic of Napoleon Bonaparte, with Joaquin Phoenix as the French general, and Vanessa Kirby as his wife Josephine. It’s reported to be three hours long, with six major battle sequences-although it’s as much a character-driven drama as it is a war movie.

Value for money
Given that the science museums in London, Manchester and Newcastle are free, it does jar (不一致) having to pay 14.50 for adults and 9.50 for kids (aged 3—15) to get in. Kids under 3 are free. I did have to push them out the door at the end of the day. Weeks on, they still refer back to things they learnt there.

We The Curious is near the National Cycle Network (routes 3, 4, and 33). The museum has lots of bicycle parking. Alternatively, it’s a 10-minute walk from Bristol Temple Meads railway station or a five-minute taxi ride or 17-minute ferry ride.
