(名校最新真题)
1.(2022·辽宁·高二阶段练习)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Twenty-three years ago, in a small town in France, the then 12-year-old girl Zugay and her 17-year-old elder sister Vanja lost their parents. They had nobody to depend on except their brother, who was a college student in Minnesota, America. The brother borrowed some money and managed to send his sisters two flight tickets, which would allow them to fly to America to stay with him. The two poor girls boarded the plane to America.
On the plane, next to the girls sat two ladies, who appeared to be in their late 30s. One wore a black pigtail. The other had mid-length fair hair. Both women carried tennis rackets (球拍). They talked about playing tennis in Paris.
When it was time for lunch, the stewardess (空姐) handed out food to the passengers. But the two girls got none, because their flight tickets didn’t include lunch. Despite the fact that they were hungry, they couldn’t afford any food. The two ladies noticed it and started conversation with them. Zugay couldn’t speak English at the time, but Vanja was able to carry on more of a conversation. The two ladies learnt about the girls’ situation and offered to buy lunch for them. Zugay and Vanja were moved to tears. Although Zugay couldn’t speak English, she had a good time with the ladies. She even helped the women with knitting (编织).
Time passed quickly. The flight landed at Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport. Before leaving, one of the ladies handed them an envelope and made them promise not to open it until they got off the plane.
The girls were later shocked to discover a $100 bill inside. A note on the outside of the envelope read: A friend from the plane—TRACY. In the upper left-hand corner, “Holiday Hotel Garden Court” was printed in blue.

______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】The girls’ brother tried to find Tracy. He wanted to express his gratitude, telling Tracy how much the money meant to them, which helped feed them for half a month. Based on the clues on the envelope, he reached out to hotels with the name of “Holiday Hotel Garden Court”, airlines and tour companies. But he couldn’t find Tracy. Then he talked with reporters from newspapers about Tracy. But still, in vain.
In recent years, Zugay turned to wider social media to look for Tracy, posting a video sharing her story. Her efforts finally paid off. She received a call from 60-year-old Tracy. The then little girl who couldn’t speak English was now talking with Tracy with great excitement in English. It turned out that Tracy used to be a tennis player, and after she retired, she volunteered to work in a nursing home. Zugay said, “Getting that envelope has shaped the way I live my life. I have been trying to be generous and pay it forward. Now I work with charity, helping those in need.”

Many of the stories that I read on HelpOthers are all about helping other people, doing actsof kindness for someone else. Often times it's easy to forget that no matter who you are, you're not always the giver. Sometimes it's we who receive that random act of kindness. When it happens, it almost feels odd(古怪的) to some extent that you are on the other end-receiving vs giving. In some way, it can be quite a humbling(使谦恭) experience.
My daughter and I had gone into Subway one evening to get sandwiches for the two of us, plus one for my wife. Before going to Subway, I had checked my bank account to make sure that I had money on my debit card. I had moved what I thought to be several hundred dollars to my ing out in a hurry, I never confirmed the transaction and so I actually had no money in my account.
When I stepped up to cash register to pay for our sandwiches, my debit card got rejected. I stood there telling the cashier it had to be a mistake. So they ran it again. REJECTED!!! Well, I was sure most pecple have been in this isort of situation and how embarrassing it could be. Of course, there was a long line of people waiting, hearing this whole thing. Behind me, I noticed there was a young man in his mid-20's. I asked the cashier to hold the sandwiches and that I would come back for them. I went out to my car and called my son, asking him to check my account on line. Well, I learned I never actually moved the money.
I was explaining to my son what he needed to do to put money into my account when all of a sudden there was a knock at my car window. The young man who had been standing behind me in line was standing there holding a bag. I was surprised and wondered what was going on.

We’ve learned something from movies that kids love a good adventure. It’s not too often that a group of youngsters go on a mission and actually come back as heroes. But that’s exactly what happened in the story below.
It all started when an elderly woman went missing. According to numerous experts on the elderly, it’s common for aging men and women to lose their way. It primarily comes down to unstable activity within a particular part of the brain. That causes direction loss and confusion, making it difficult for them to find even known locations.
A group of young kids decided to go bike riding, just as they had hundreds of other times. It was an ordinary day just like any other. With the weather beautiful where they lived in Sacramento, California, this was a perfect way to have fun.
While out and about on their bikes, a police officer approached the kids. He explained to them that a 97-year-old woman from the area had gone missing. So, he asked them if they’d keep their eyes open for anything unusual. They decided to try to find her.
Kids, are always up for a challenge. That’s when Logan, Hope, Kash, and McKenna decided to look around. Although they were hopeful, they really didn’t know if they’d find her. But they were very determined to do their best.
Off they went. So, that’s when the four young kids thought it would be best to ride their bikes up and down the streets. But they did a lot more than that. They rode through parks, over hills, and anywhere else they could think of to try to find the missing woman.
What started as more of a game slowly turned into a serious search and rescue. These kids slowly began to understand just how terrible the situation was. So, they went throughout several neighborhoods. They were now on a mission to succeed.
The area of Sacramento where the group lived was quite large. And with bikes, they were limited to where they could go. But that didn’t matter—they wanted to cover every inch hoping to find her.

【答案】参考范文:
All of a sudden, one of the kids spotted the woman. They would later find out that this lady suffered from dementia. Quicky, they went home to let one of the fathers know they found the missing woman. Considering this woman was missing and the world we live in, no one knows what would’ve happened if this group of kids hadn’t spotted her. They were determined and all their hard work paid off. To everyone in the community, they’re all heroes.
The police showed up and accompanied the woman safely home. Then, the kids were told that they did a great job. Something like this could be all it takes to shape the minds of these children so that someday, they do something amazing in their lives. It goes to show that you should never be quick to underestimate kids—especially ones that are determined. And no doubt these youngsters will be telling their children this story one day, as they should.

I’d seen Kim several times on the campus before. She was one of those girls who would shine wherever they went, while I was such a shy boy that I would be very happy to be left alone. At least, I thought so.
One night, there was a dancing party at the stadium, and I decided to get away from study for a moment. I arrived late and took a seat at the back of the room on purpose. My classmates, who sat near the stage, didn’t notice me. I told myself to hang out for just fifteen minutes and then go back to study.
Suddenly, I heard a laugh. Then I saw her. She was sitting among them. I moved my chair a little to the left, so I could have a better view of her. I imagined myself walking up to her and asking her to dance.
“What would she say Would she just laugh or simply look right through me ” I wondered.
At that moment, she turned toward the back of the room-her eyes searching as if she’d felt my thoughts on her. My face became bright red when she saw me. I saw her whisper something to one of my classmates, and then she got up and came toward me.
For a moment, my heart began to race. It jumped so violently that I was sure she could see my shirt moving. I looked over my shoulder and saw the “Restroom” sign and decided to hide.
“Hey, Rob, what are you doing back here all by yourself ” she said, smiling as if we’d known each other all our lives.
I looked up, and she was standing right in front of me. I swallowed hard. She pulled out a chair and sat down at my table.
“How’d you know my name ” I finally managed to ask.
“I asked around,” she said with her dancing brown eyes. “I always make a point of knowing the names of all the smart guys on campus.”

【答案】Paragraph l:
My face became redder. I’m sure she noticed, but she didn’t mention it. She took a drink and began to tell me all about herself: her favorite movies, her dreams and disappointments. Fifteen minutes turned into a half hour, and an hour became two. We talked and laughed like old friends. There were people all around and a band playing somewhere in front of us, but we’d slipped into our own world — one where a new friendship was being born.
Paragraph 2:
Since then, I have changed. Whenever I am at a party, I am always on the lookout for the strangers who might feel a little out of place, a little left out. I can recognize myself in those shy souls, and then I think of Kim. What would she do in a situation like this Then I will walk over and say hello warmly. I have found out it is not so difficult to reach out for a new friendship.

I love to travel around when I am in a new country. On one hand, I can admire different scenes; on the other hand, it is a terrific chance to experience different customs and culture.
I always remember something that happened to me when I was working in an Asian country. I had just arrived in the country for a one-year teaching position. I was curious about the place and took any chance to travel around . One day, I took the subway to visit some ancient palaces and temples in the downtown. The following account of what happened to me has taught me much about culture difference.
The subway was crowded. Since all the seats were taken, I stood. I was carrying a heavy bag on my back, which made it more difficult for me to hold balance on the over-crowded car. But I was used to travelling in any hard situation, therefore I didn’t pay much attention to it. I was absorbed in my own thought, thinking over what I was going to get through the visit. Suddenly, I felt someone pulling on my bag. I was a bit surprised and thought I probably was in someone’s way. So I moved over slightly to make more room. But in one quick motion(动作), I felt my bag was removed from my back, and in a flash it was gone. It came to me that I was robbed! I turned around to see who it was. I looked at the people standing behind me, but didn’t see my bag or any suspect. My heart sank and I began to get worried. I was new to the place and was unable to speak the language. I even did not know whom to turn to or what to do when a rob was happening to me.

【答案】 I quickly glanced around the car only to find directly across from me was an elderly lady, and sitting on her lap(大腿部) was my bag. I tried to get it back from her lap. But as I began to pull it up, she quickly grabbed it back and held onto it. I looked around at the people standing beside me, and those sitting beside her, but no one took any notice of the situation. Trying not to cause a scene , I tried to negotiate through gestures. I used my hands as best as I could, but she ignored my requests for my bag and pointed to my back. She picked up my bag, showing how heavy it was. I finally began to understand. She was holding my bag to help me.At the next stop, a middle-aged woman got on the crowded subway. Another elderly woman sitting down took her bag, setting it on her lap. They didn’t talk; yet this older woman was more than pleased to sit with this stranger’s bag on her lap throughout her journey.
Finally, the subway arrived at the main downtown station. I was getting ready to get off, the woman gently handed me back my bag. But before I had a chance to thank her, she had disappeared into the crowd.Sadly, this considerate custom was more surprising to me than if I had been robbed. Everyone back home had heard of being robbed-that was usual city behavior-but having a stranger hold onto someone’s bag out of kindness, in a city of twelve million people—that was truly unusual.
