The first note I ever wrote for my mother said “Hi, Mom!Have a nice day!Love, Marie!”. I
was twelve when I wrote it, and I put the 16 into her change purse(零钱包).
My mother worked as a cleaner in a clothing factory. I knew that when she 17 meals in the dining hall, she would have to look for change in her purse. I didn't know that she would keep that note, and always carry it with her.
From the day that I 18 put the small piece of paper into my mother's change purse, she and I left each other secret notes. They would be put in the fridge, under a lamp, or beside the TV set. I 19 found one hidden in my shoe. From the outside, our notes may have been general records of our days, ideas and wishes. But to my mother and 20 , they were a lifeline-a communication with each other that no one else shared.
21 October 20, 2019, my mother died after a long illness. I stood near her bed, 22 her hand. I didn't cry the day my mom died, 23 I didn't cry a week later when I went to collect her things. I was so thankful that she no longer had aches and pains.
Recently, I found a note that my mom had left me. It had been hidden in the 24 of my favorite childhood book for years. It read“Dear Marie, I love you always. Miss you a lot. Don't forget me. Be 25 !Love, Mom.”That day, I cried.

People like to say sorry in the UK. If a person burps ( 打 嗝 ) at the dinner table or he is late for a meeting, you’ll probably hear him saying “Oh, I’m so sorry!”
But why do the English people say sorry so much A US scientist
Robert Trivers gave a possible answer in his studies. He says that we are polite(有礼貌的) because we need to be apart of a group and join in the society(社会). If we want to be welcome and safe, we need to follow the rules, help each other and say sorry.
As an English magazine says, in the UK, being polite could be “a symbol of the English class system(阶级制度) in the old time”. Sometimes people say sorry to show they are in a high class. Sometimes, they say sorry to show respect( 尊 敬 ) to others. And other times they may just say sorry to stay away from trouble.
Does this mean that when English people say sorry, they are not showing they did something wrong The answer maybe “yes” sometimes. But saying sorry is useful. If you’re in the UK,
please remember, a little “sorry” can help you to go a long way.
How did the writer begin his writing in Paragraph 1
A. By listing numbers. B. By telling stories. C. By asking questions. D. By giving examples.
From Paragraph 2-3, we mainly get to know the of saying sorry in the UK.
A. places B. times C. reasons D. ways
Which “sorry” in the following sentences shows the speaker really did something wrong
A. “I’m sorry, it is not for sale.” B. “Sorry, time is up and I really have to go.”
C. “I’m sorry, could you please say it again ” D. “Sorry, Mr. Brown. I won’t be late next time.”
According to the last paragraph, the writer may agree that .
it’s helpful to say sorry in the UK
people shouldn’t say sorry too much
we don’t have to say sorry if we are right
saying sorry shows we are in a high class
