The teenage years are usually the most stressful years in a person’s life. As teens go through great changes in body, mind and so on, they are often easy to get angry and full of strong feelings. Teens of today face more challenges than before. Technological improvements and even climate change are bringing new changes and causing more trouble for teens to deal with.
One new challenge is about new technologies and ways of working, such as AI that will change the future jobs. The challenge for a teen today is preparing for an unknown future. In the past, a teen could prepare for only one career path and be quite certain to stay in the same area of work for a long time. The situation is different today as AI continues to take away jobs that depend on humans. Teens will have to meet this challenge by developing a sense of lifelong learning, being willing to learn skills that match real needs and keeping up with technology. Finally, teens will also have to prepare for career paths of more possibilities.
In addition, as the effects of climate change become more common in recent years, many teens around the world are in fear or anger. Disasters and the rise in sea levels have destroyed homes and taken away lives. Many people have been hurt by these terrible climatic events, and even if a teen has not suffered, he or she is often worried about what may happen in the future.
To manage the great challenges of the 21st century, teens should treat challenges as chances. To keep up with technological improvements, they should continue to learn new skills. As for dealing with the climate change, they can come together to think of new ways to accept changes and help create a more sustainable(可持续的)future.
阅读以上信息,用恰当的单词完成下面的表格,每空一词。
The origins(来源)of the challenges ●One is from teenagers’ own changes. ●The others are from the improvements in 1 and climate.
The 2 brought by the new types of challenges ●The rise of AI makes teenagers unsure of their future. They have to develop the sense of lifelong learning, be willing to learn skills that match real needs. They also have to give up the idea of preparing for a 3 career path.
●The effects of climate change lead teenagers to be afraid or angry. Paying too much attention to them makes teenagers 4 stay peaceful.
The solutions to the new challenges ●Teens should treat challenges as chances to 5 technological improvement. ●They should work together to accept changes and create a more sustainable future.

Most people have the good fortune to be raised by caring parents, who give them not only their love but also their time spent in doing various things for them. However, many who love their parents have trouble finding the time to spend with them that they know they deserve (值得). Well, here are some ideas.
●A family meal
For those who live within less than an hour’s travelling distance from their parents, a weekly get together around the dinner table is really not too much to ask. It can be at your place or theirs, or you can have other choices. Take the chance to chat about daily happenings, and repay just a little of the time they gladly spent on you. If they live really close by, you could even drop in on the way home from work at times.
●A weekly planned phone call
For those who live at a greater distance from their parents, there is no possibility of regular contact in person, but this does not mean an end to personal contact. Your parents will be glad to hear the sound of your voice, so plan to call them on the telephone at least once a week. If possible, choose a proper time when everyone is more likely to be at home. Your parents will be even happier if this could be a video call.
●E-mail, text and social networks
If your parents feel quite comfortable in the cyber world, well, spend some time with them in that location. Exchange e-mails, photos, and even Facebook friends with them. You don’t have to share every detail of your life with them, just the bits you know they will have interest in.
●Ask for your parents’ advice
Whatever problems you may be having, large or small, it’s a safe bet that your parents have been through it all before. So talk to them and ask for their advice, and if they make the way clearer for you, it might just turn out to be the best few minutes you ever spent.
●Share relaxation time
That is, plan time together doing something you both enjoy. Women preparing for a shopping trip or to take in a film could easily do the same thing together with Mum. Sometimes fathers and sons could enjoy golf or fishing together. Going out for a meal can be a time for everyone to have fun, or you can get together for a weekend once or twice a year if distance separates you.
Though most parents do not expect to play a lead role in the lives of their adult children, their years of love and gladly-given time deserve a few thoughtful minutes in return. So spend time with your parents and make them closer to you.
Find 6 for Parents
Problem ● Most people brought up by caring parents find it 7 to pay back their parents.
Ways Have dinner together ● Get together to have meals weekly 8 at your places or other places. ● Chat about what has happened in the past few days.
Make a phone call ● When regular contact in person is 9 because of the great distance, make sure your parents can hear your voice as 10 as possible. ● Choose a time 11 for both of you. This will greatly make your parents happy.
Contact 12 ● Share something interesting with your parents through e-mail, text or social networks.
Turn to your parents for advice ●Your parents can help you with different 13 of problems, because they are more experienced than you in one way or another. ● Sharing your troubles and plans is a great way to show your love.
Share your spare time ● 14 time together and do things you both enjoy.
Conclusion ● Spending time with your parents is a good way to 15 them for their devotion.

Have you ever visited Longmen Grottoes(石窟)or Yungang Grottoes Around 1, 800 years ago, Chinese artists made statues in mountains. Over the years, these statues have gone through earthquakes, floods and wars. Now in the 21st century, however, they are facing an even bigger problem: tourism. Too many tourists go to visit those grottoes every year and this certainly does harm to the grotto statues. How
Over many centuries, these grotto statues slowly corrode(侵蚀)because of the acidic content (酸性物含量)of air, water and so on. But when they are open to the public, the corrosion process speeds up.
According to a study, the carbon dioxide that visitors breathe out has made the air more acidic. Also, visitors bring in microorganisms(微生物). Even their body heat can increase the grottoes’ temperature.
Bad behaviour can cause harm to the grotto statues as well. Too many visitors touch the grotto statues and cause their surfaces to change colour.
When we visit the grottoes, we can often see a sign saying, “No Flash!” or “No Photos!” This is because the strong light can be bad for the statues, especially those with colour. The light can easily make them lose colour.
To protect those ancient cultural treasures, recently China has asked the workers who take care of those grottoes not to allow too many visitors to come every day. And to keep a balance between protecting relies and educating the public, some grotto sites have also created their own digital(数字的)museums.
Title: Grotto Statues Are in 16
Problems The grottoes corrode 17 when they are open to the public. →The carbon dioxide that visitors breathe out, the microorganisms visitors bring in and visitors’ body heat make the grotto environment more acidic. →Tourists behave badly. ●They touch the grotto statues with their hands. ●The strong light of cameras makes the grotto statues lose colour easily.
18 →Control the 19 of daily visitors. → 20 tourists with online tours in digital museums.

How important is music When they are asked this question, students and parents usually answer that music is nice, but not very important. It is often considered only as entertainment, but not the first choice for education. This opinion is shortsighted. In fact, music education is necessary and important for all students.
Music tells us who we are. Music reflects(反映)the creators’ thinking and values, as well as the social environment it came from. For example, just as Mozart music represents a lifestyle, rock music represents a lifestyle too. The jazz influence that George Gershwin and other musicians introduced into their music is obviously American because it came from American musical traditions.
Music provides a kind of ability to know the world in a different way. Science explains how the sun rises and sets. Music explores the emotive(情感的)meanings. We need every possible way to discover and respond(回应)to our world because no one way can get it all.
Music is a form of thought, as powerful as science. It is a way we human beings “talk” to each other. Through the language we express our feelings, our discoveries, our ideas, our imagination and our hopes so that they can be shared with others. When we do not let our children receive good music education, we take away from them the meanings that music expresses. Science does not tell us what it means to be human. Music does.
So music education is much more important than people generally realize.
Title: Music education is of great importance
Passage outline Detailed information
Introduction ● Shortsighted opinion: Music is only a way of entertainment, not the top choice for education. ● 21 : Music education is important and necessary for all students.

A way to 23 with each other ● We use music to 24 our feelings, discoveries, ideas, imagination and hopes with others. ● Music, 25 from science, tells us what it means to be human.

One day, when I wake up, I find myself the ruler of the world…
We would have half an hour of “keep fit” every day, away from the Internet. My theory is that almost all Internet fights would be solved if we were all forced to walk away from computers and do some exercise in fresh air. I think a lot of our anger comes from the fact that we’re just not getting enough of it.
We must be kind to animals. Once a year, we would have a day completely devoted to animals; everybody would be allowed to have the day off and just spend their time with their dog, cat or mouse. Sometimes people are too shy to say that they love animals as much as they love humans. And I guess that I am as well. I wish I could talk about that more freely. I’m always happy when I meet other people who feel the same way, and devote their lives to taking in homeless cats and dogs, and raising money for animal charities.
Everybody would have a free Michelin-starred(米其林星级)dinner. We live in a world where we hear about these places a lot. It’s considered as the pinnacle(巅峰)of experience to go and enjoy food there. But in fact, for almost 99 per cent of people in my city don’t get the chance. It’s very expensive and might be far away, so people just don’t go. They might watch it on TV, but they never witness a two-Michelin-star restaurant for themselves. Since I come to power, everybody will get a free ticket and enjoy themselves in the restaurant.
All people would speak good English. I studied English—really badly—for nine years, in a school in south-east of China, I wasn’t very hard-working, I just did it because I kind of had to. And I really feel sorry for that, because now I’m circled by business people speaking English all the time. So, when I come to power, all people would speak English well, and things will work out.

Cars powered by gasoline(汽油)were sold for many years before cars that use electricity. Car companies are now making cars that are fully powered by electricity only. How do these electric cars measure up to(符合标准)traditional gasoline cars
Electric and gasoline cars look similar on the outside. They have very different parts under their hoods(引擎盖), though. Electric cars have one main moving part: the motor. But gasoline cars have hundreds of parts, often requiring frequent maintenance(保养). Having fewer parts makes the electric car cheaper to maintain and less likely to have mechanical(机械的)problems.
Electric cars are energy efficient(高效的), also making them cheaper to operate. It costs about $1.00 to travel 43 miles in an electric car. But it costs about $1.25 to go 18 miles in a gasoline car. Basically, an electric car can go twice as far as a gas car for the same price.
Electric cars do not have tailpipe emissions(尾气排放), making them more friendly to the environment, too.
While some details make electric cars seem attractive, other details aren’t as favourable. For example, some electric cars can travel only 60 to 120 miles on a full charge(充电). Most gas cars can drive hundreds of miles on a full tank(油箱).
An electric car has to stop more often to get recharged. Therefore, a gas car would be a better option(选择)if you have far to drive. And electric cars aren’t as convenient(方便的)to power up as gas cars are. There are plenty of gas stations, but not many charging stations for electric cars. Then, once an electric car reaches a charging station, it can take up to six hours to charge.
There are certainly advantages to both electric cars and gasoline cars. It’s good to know that there is a choice. Which one do you prefer It’ s up to you.
※Introduction: With the appearance of electric cars, people wonder whether electric cars can reach the same 36 as gasoline cars. ※ 37 : Electric cars and gasoline cars look similar in their looks.
1. Having fewer parts reduces the cost of their maintenance and the 38 of having mechanical problems. 2. Compared with gasoline cars, electric cars are more energy saving, making them cheaper to operate. 3. Having no tailpipe emissions, they do no harm to the environment. 4. Gas cars can cover a 39 distance on a full tank than electric cars on a full charge. 5. There are many gas stations built for gas cars while not enough charging stations are provided for people to charge their electric cars.
※Conclusion: Both gas cars and electric cars have their own advantages. Your choice depends on your 40 .

Do you find it hard to say no whenever someone comes to you for help Do you feel guilty (内疚的) when you have to tell people that you can’t help them And do you often say “yes” while your true answer is “no” If you answered yes, you may be a “people-pleaser”.
Being friendly and helpful is a good thing. It helps you build lasting friendships. However, going too far—trying to please others even at the cost of your own happiness—can leave you feeling stressed. Luckily, there are some steps that you can take to stop being a people-pleaser.
To start with, it’s important to create “boundaries (边界)”in your life. Be clear about what you really like to do. You can also tell others that they can only come to you during a certain period of time.
When someone asks you for help, tell him or her that you need some time to think about it. Use this time to ask yourself: Do you really want to do this How much time will it take By giving yourself a few minutes, you’ll be better able to decide.
Some people always try to please others because they have little confidence in themselves. They place a low value on their own happiness. In this case, try positive self-talk. Remind yourself that you have dreams, too. You don’t have to give away your time and energy to do things that don’t bring you joy.
Making a sudden and big change can be hard, but you can break huge task up into pieces. You may, for example, text to say no. Then, go straight to the person and say no. Practice this in less difficult situations first, such as talking to a salesperson or ordering at a restaurant. Then try refusing your friends or relatives.
Stopping being a people-pleaser doesn’t mean you have to give up being kind and helpful. You can still do good things—but don’t take away your own happiness.

When the first person looked up to the sky, people’s imagination of space began. In China, there are many stories about the exploration (探索) of space.
Thousands of years ago, there was a lady named Chang’e that flew to the Moon and lived there with a rabbit. It’s just a story in myths (神话).
In the Ming Dynasty, a man named Wan Hu used a machine which was made of a chair, some fireworks and a kite as a rocket to fly to space but failed. He was considered as the first human that tried to explore space.
Our exploration of space never stopped until it became a reality in modern times. Without doubt, Chinese space technology has made great progress.
In 2003, when Shenzhou V set off successfully, Yang Liwei’s words “I am proud of our motherland” brought tears to our eyes. Carrying the flying dream of the Chinese nation for thousands of years, as the first space visitor of China, he started the Space Age for the Chinese.

Teens will have to meet this challenge by developing a sense of lifelong learning, being willing to learn skills that match real needs and keeping up with technology.
阅读下面短文,请根据短文内容,在文后表格中填入恰当的单词,每空一词。

阅读以上信息,用恰当的词完成下面的表格,每空一词。
A/An 26 about Ruling the World
“Keep fit” project ●We spend 30 minutes doing sports instead of working before computers. ●All online fights would be ended and we won’t be 27 any more.

【答案】36.standards 37.Similarity 38.possibility 39.longer 40.decision
【导语】本文主要介绍了汽油车和电动车都有各自的优势。
36.根据首段“Cars powered by gasoline were sold for many years before cars that use electricity. Car companies are now making cars that are fully powered by electricity only. How do these electric cars measure up to traditional gasoline cars ”(在使用电力的汽车之前,汽油驱动的汽车已经销售了很多年。汽车公司现在生产的汽车完全由电力驱动。这些电动汽车如何与传统的汽油汽车相媲美?)可知。引言是:随着电动汽车的出现,人们想知道电动汽车是否能达到与汽油车相同的标准。因为宾语从句“electric cars can reach the same…as gasoline cars”的主语“cars”是复数名词,空缺处应填名词复数形式standards(标准),故填standards。
37.根据第二段首句“Electric and gasoline cars look similar on the outside.”(电动汽车和汽油车外观相似。)可知,相似性:电动汽车和汽油车在外观上看起来很相似。置于句首首字母要大写,空缺处应填不可数名词Similarity“相似性”,故填Similarity。
38.根据第二段最后一句“Having fewer parts makes the electric car cheaper to maintain and less likely to have mechanical problems.”(更少的零件使电动汽车的维护成本更低,也不太可能出现机械问题。)可知,拥有更少的零件可以降低其维护成本和出现机械问题的可能性。空缺处应填名词possibility“可能性”,故填possibility。
39.根据第五段第二、三句“For example, some electric cars can travel only 60 to 120 miles on a full charge. Most gas cars can drive hundreds of miles on a full tank.”(例如,一些电动汽车充满电后只能行驶60至120英里。大多数汽油车加满油后可以行驶数百英里。)可知,与充满电的电动汽车相比,加满油的汽油车可以行驶更长的距离。结合空后比较级的标志“than”,可知空处应填形容词的比较级longer“更长的”,故填longer。
40.根据最后一段“There are certainly advantages to both electric cars and gasoline cars. It’ s good to know that there is a choice. Which one do you prefer It’ s up to you.”(电动汽车和汽油车都有优点。
