“BANG!” the door closed heavily. My father was standing on one side and I on the other side.
We were 11 in great anger. “Never set foot in this house again!” my father shouted. With tears, I rushed out and ran along the street.
I walked around and around. A young father who held a child in his arms walked 12 me. I felt as if I saw my childhood—happy and peaceful.
But now…I don’t know 13 it is because I have grown up or because my dad is getting old. We have different thoughts. Whenever I do something wrong, he never accepts it. We are just like two people 14 from two different worlds. It feels like there is an iron door between us that can never be opened.
My heart was frozen on this hot summer night. As I walked on, there were 15 people on the streets, until I had only the street lights to be with me. When I finally reached the high-rise apartment block in which I lived, I saw the light was still on.
I 16 to myself, “Is father waiting for me, or is he still angry with me ” In fact, it was 17 . Perhaps, dad was throwing away some of his old stamps. Perhaps he thought they were useless. I never had the courage to tell him that I liked collecting stamps. I 18 stand his outrageous (蛮横的) words, “I can throw you away, let alone these old stamps.”
All the lights were off except 19 . Dad was always like this. Maybe he didn’t know how to express himself. After shouting at me, he never showed any kindness or any moments of 20 , which might a little bit make me feel better. This was how he always was. He has been a leader for so long that telling everyone else what to do has become his second nature.
At last, I decided to open the door. As soon as I opened it, tears ran down my face. I suddenly realized that the iron door that I had imagined between us was not there. Love is second to none.

The Haizhu District Experimental Primary School has taken up a new rule to alleviate (减轻) worries over students’ backpack weights and health problems. Thousands of runners tied their running shoes and poured out from the starting line while crowds cheered along the course (路线). Marathons (马拉松) in China are becoming popular again.
According to the Chinese Athletics Association (中国田径协会), a total of 133 marathons across the country have been registered (注册) for the first six months of 2023. On March 26, more than 300,000 runners took part in 26 marathon events around the country, reported China Daily.
Teenagers have also taken part in marathons. Xu Qian, a 15-year-old from Suqian, Jiangsu, loves running. He won first place in the 5-kilometer Happy Run of the Jingdong Suqian Marathon held on April 2.
For Xu, the race meant months of training and preparation. He ran about 30-40 kilometers in local sports centers each week ahead of the run.
“Unlike the 800-meter run at school which is more about speed, a marathon tests how much pressure a runner’s body and mind can stand,” he told Teens.
When he felt tired during the race, he told himself not to give up. “In long-distance (长距离的) running, the only person you have to compete against and beat is yourself,” Xu added.
Li Zhouzi from Chongqing took part in a 3-kilometer Kid Run of the Berlin Marathon in Germany in 2019 when he was 10. The support from the people cheering along the way really encouraged her.
“When things were hard, people from across the world cheered me on. Even if it was just the words, ‘keep it up’, it meant a lot to me and I was inspired to keep going to the end,” Li told Teens.
She thinks she can learn a lot from running a marathon. “Similarly, our life is also a marathon,” Li said.

I’ve grown up
The new year is coming and it means that I am older. I am not the little girl any more. I must make something different from the old me.
A few years ago, I was so lazy that I couldn’t do the housework. When my mother asked me to do it, I would have some excuses and then ran away. Now I need to learn to have some responsibility. I should share the housework with my mum and relieve her burden. Besides, when I played computer games, my mother always asked me not to play them. She thought I should work hard and exercise more. I don’t understand her very much, but now I think she is right.
The new year gives me the new task. I must learn to broaden my vision and gain some knowledge, so that I can make some progress. I am so happy that I am older and I have grown up. I want to become mature and let my parents be proud of me.
