In old days, the Emperor (皇帝) and his family worked and lived here.
It’s in the centre of Beijing.
It’s the biggest museum in China.
It has an area of 720,000 square metres.
The emperors (皇帝)of the Ming and Qing dynasties used to live there.
There are many palaces in it.

The Palace museum is a wonderful place to visit. Every day, lots of people come to see it. There are a lot of beautiful palaces inside the Palace Museum. The most important palaces are Taihe Palace, Zhonghe Palace and Baohe Palace.
Today we’ll visit Taihe Palace first, at 10 am. It’s about 27 metres high. At 10:30, we’ll go to Zhonghe Palace. We’ll see beautiful works of art there. Half an hour later, we’ll go to Baohe Palace to see more works of art. Then we’ll have lunch. At 1 pm, we’ll see some Chinese paintings in Huangji palace. Finally, at about 2:30 pm, we’ll visit Fengxian Palace to see some clocks and watches. After that, we can buy some presents for our friends in the gift shop. OK, let’s go to Taihe Palace.

背景知识
故宫位于北京时的中心，又名紫禁城，是明清两代的皇宫。故宫始建于明朝永乐年间。据介绍，紫禁城南边长961米，东西宽753米，占地面积78万平方米。故宫共有房屋8700间，每道门上的铜钉是横竖9颗。
因为在中国古代，人们认为“9”与“久”谐音，即“永久”，寓意皇帝的江山可以天长地久。
故宫分为两大部分。南部为外朝，是处理朝政的地方。外朝包括太和殿、中和殿和保和殿。太和殿是举行盛大典礼的地方，太和殿有一个门前广场。过了太和殿就是中和殿。中和殿是皇帝临朝前的预备室。保和殿的建筑与太和殿类似，只是规模小一点。保和殿是皇帝举行大宴和殿试的场所。
