非谓语动词作表语
1 不定式作表语 (to-infinitive as predicative)
不定式作表语时表示的动作往往是具体的、一次性的动作,特别是将来的动作。
通常主语是表示“目的、愿望、梦想、需求”等的名词或what 引导的主语从句。
Our aim is to help students make progress. 我们的目标是帮助学生取得进步。
The purpose of the meeting is to make a useful plan. 这次会议的目的是制定一个新计划。
My wish is to buy myself a house . 我的愿望是给自己买房。
The next step is to put the theory into practice. 下一阶段要把理论付诸实践。
What impresses me most is to enjoy the view. 让我印象最深的是欣赏美景。
【点拨】 当主语部分含有实义动词do 的某种形式时,作表语的不定式可以省略to。
All he did was(to)wait. 他所做的只是等待。
What you have to do is(to)study hard. 你所要做的是努力学习。

2 动名词作表语(-ing as predicative)
动名词作表语时表示一般性、习惯性的动作或抽象的动作。通常主语是表示“身份、职业”等的名词,多数情况下主语与表语可以互换。
My job is teaching. 我的工作就是教学。
Our duty is serving the people. 我们的职责是为人民服务。
My idea is making a plan first. 我的想法是先制订一个计划。
【点拨】 一般来说,表示比较抽象的一般行为时,多用动名词作表语;
表示具体某次动作,特别是将来的动作时,多用不定式作表语。
The old man's job is painting the walls. 这位老人的工作是粉刷墙。
The next step is to set the machine in motion. 下一步是开动这台机器。
注意:这种区别并不是绝对的。例外的情况也不少,有时可以互用。

3 分词作表语(-ing & -ed as predicative)
此类现在分词和过去分词已经具有明显的形容词特征,因此可以作为形容词用。
现在分词(-ing)作表语,表示主语的性质、特征,意为“令人……的”
过去分词(-ed)作表语,表示主语的状态,意为“感到……的”
The influence of computer games is worrying. 电脑游戏的影响令人担忧。
The sound of martial music is always inspiring. 军乐声总是令人振奋的。
All the fans are very excited. 所有的粉丝都很兴奋。
It is obvious that the boy is interested in this machine. 显然,这个男孩对这台机器感兴趣。

系表结构和被动语态的区别:
系表结构表示主语的状态,不带by 短语;
被动语态表示动作,可以带by 短语。

One of my biggest dreams had always been to see the painting Girl with a Pearl Earring, by the Dutch artist, Vermeer. It wasn't until we went on a trip to The Hague last year that this dream came true! There were lots of people waiting to enter the Mauritshuis. Although my legs were tired from walking around the city, I was determined to see the painting, which is often called the “Mona Lisa of the North“. Nobody is sure of the identity of the girl in it. And there she was. It was amazing to be standing in front of her at last! The girl is looking over her shoulder. Her eyes are wide and her mouth is parted, just as if she were about to speak.
