用法总结
The past perfect progressive (continuous) is used to describe an action that started in
the past and was still in progress when a second action started. Both actions began
and ended in the past. As in the past perfect simple, the sentence has two parts:
The past perfect progressive, to refer to the action that was in process
The past simple to refer to the action that happened after the first action
过去完成进行时用于描述在过去开始的第一个动作，当第二个动作开始时第一个
动作仍在进行中。这两个动作都是在过去开始和结束。与过去完成时一样，这种
句子有两个部分：
过去完成进行时---指的是当时正在进行的动作（第一个动作）
一般过去时---指的是发生在第一个动作之后的动作（第二个动作）
Tim had been working for three hours when May came home.

By the time Judy found an umbrella, it had been raining for ten minutes.

Past Perfect Simple or Past Perfect Progressive (Continuous) – Which to use
过去完成时 vs 过去完成进行时-到底使用哪个？
In general, use the past perfect simple when the first action started in the past and
ended before the second action began. Use the past perfect progressive when that
first action was still in progress when the second action began. Remember, both
actions ended in the past.
两种时态的句子都包含了两个发生在过去的动作：
如果第二个动作开始之前第一个动作已经结束，那么我们在描述第一个动作时就
用过去完成时。
I had played the guitar before they arrived.
我弹完吉他后，他们才到达。
（他们到达之前，我就已经弹过吉他了。）
