一、基数词的用法
基数词表示数量的多少,常用来谈论数目、时间等,如:eleven miles, nine o’clock等。其构成规则为:
① 0-12 为基本单词;13-19为个位基数词后面加-teen,特殊的有thirteen, fifteen, eighteen ;整十的基数词(除10外)在对应的一位数基数词后面加-ty,特殊的有twenty, thirty, forty, fifty, eighty 。
② “几十几” 的十位数与个位数之间要用连字符“-”,如:23→twenty-three。
③ 三位数须在百位数和十位数(若无十位数则和个位数)之间用and连接。如:439→four hundred and thirty-nine, 704→seven hundred and four。
④ 当hundred, thousand, million, billion等词前面有具体数词修饰时,必须用单数。如:eighty-three thousand, six hundred and ninety-one。
1. 基数词在句中主要用作主语、宾语、定语、表语、同位语,例如:
Thirty of them are Party members. (主语)
— How many would you like
— Three, please. (作宾语)
The nine boys are from Tianjin. (定语)
The number is ten. (表语)
We four will go with you. (同位语)
2. 表示“……十”的数词的复数形式可用来表示人的岁数或年代,例如:
He is in his early thirties.
He died still in his forties.
This took place in 1930s.
3. 表示时刻用基数词。如:
We get up at six.
表示“几点几分”可直接用基数词。如:
seven fifteen, eleven thirty, nine twenty
表示“几点几分”,还可用介词past,一般在半小时以内。如:
ten past ten, a quarter past nine, half past twelve
表示“几点差几分”,用介词to,一般在差半小时以内。如:
twenty to nine, five to eight, a quarter to ten
二、序数词的用法
★序数词表示数目的顺序,常用来谈论日期、楼层、位置等,如:on 10th May等。
其构成规则为:
① “ 第一” 、“ 第二” 、“ 第三” 比较特殊,分别为:first, second, third。
② “ 第四” 至“ 第十九” 一般在对应的基数词后面加-th构成,特殊的有fifth, eighth, ninth, twelfth。
③ 整十(除10外)序数词的构成方法是将基数词词尾的y 变为ie ,再加-th,如:twentieth, fortieth。
④ 两位或两位以上的基数词变成序数词时,仅将个位数变成序数词即可,如:twenty-one→twenty-first。
1. 序数词主要用作定语, 前面要加定冠词。例如:
The first truck is carrying baskets.
John lives on the fifteenth floor.
2. 序数词有时前面可加不定冠词来表示 “再一”,“又一”这样的意思。例如:
We’ll have to do it a second time.
We’ve tried it three times. Must we try it a fourth time
3. 表示年、月、日时, 年用基数词表示, 日用序数词表示。例如:
1949年10月1日读作: October (the) first, nineteen forty nine
2004年9月10日读作:September (the) tenth, two thousand and four

用英语描述算式时,多用祈使句。这些祈使句由表示加、减、乘、除的动词开头,但要注意每个动词各自的搭配习惯。如:Add 2 and 4.→ (2+4), Subtract 2 from 4. →(4-2), Multiply 2 by 4. →(2×4), Divide 4 by 2.→(4÷2) (注意:除数与被除数的位置不能颠倒)。
用英语描述完整的计算时,可以用以下几种结构:
①2 plus 4 is/equals 6. →(2+4 =6);
②4 minus 2 is/equals 2. →(4 -2 =2);
③2 multiplied by 4 is/equals 8. →(2×4=8);
④4 divided by 2 is/equals 2. →(4÷2 =2) 。
值得注意的是,上述几个结构中的2 plus 4, 2 multiplied by 4等作主语,要把它们看成是一个整体,谓语动词要用be 动词的第三人称单数is或动词equal的第三人称单数形式equals 。
