七、阅读理解
On a cold winter afternoon, I was walking home from a supermarket. I was feeling a little tired, as I was carrying my shopping bags. They were so heavy that I decided to stop to have a rest in the park. I walked towards the gate of the park. I noticed a poor man walking out of the restaurant in front of me. He was holding a paper bag. He walked to a nearby dustbin(垃圾箱) and started looking through it.
I suddenly felt sad. I knew this man would take all that he could get, so I went up to him and gave him some fruit. The man, with wrinkles(皱纹) on his face, looked up in surprise and took what I gave him.
A big smile appeared on his face and I felt very happy. Then he said, ‘Wow! First someone gave me this sandwich, then this drink, and now some delicious fruit. This is my daughter’s lucky day. Thank you, boy.’ Then he went away, singing a song.
Just then, I understood what the saying ‘Giving is getting’ really meant. Everyone in the world needs help, everyone can offer help and everyone will be helped by showing kindness. Giving sometimes doesn’t cost much, but it means a lot to the people who you help.

Have you ever seen a person in the Moon If you look closely at the Moon on some nights, you can see the face of a man in the Moon. Some people say that they can see an old man carrying sticks. Others see a girl reading a book. These pictures are made by the mountains and plains of the Moon.
Long ago people in England used to tell their children that the Moon was made of green cheese. Everyone knows that this is not true. The Moon is a large round rock. There is nothing on it. There are no trees or plants on the Moon. There are no rivers or seas. There are no living things. There is no air. It never rains on the Moon and everything is covered with dry, white dust. Not even a sound can be heard on the Moon.
The Moon is very hot when the Sun shines on it. But in the shade (背阴处) it is as cold as ice.The Moon is much smaller than the Earth. It does not weigh as much as the Earth. If you went to the Moon, you would weigh six times less than you do now. Even a fat man would be able to jump high off the ground.

Scientists think that there has been life on the Earth for hundreds of millions of years. However, we have not found life on any other planet yet.
The Earth is a planet and it goes around the Sun. Seven other planets also go around the
Sun. None of them has an environment like that of the Earth, so scientists think there may be no life on them. The Sun and its planets are called the solar system (太阳系), and our solar system is a small part of a much larger group of stars and planets, called the Galaxy or the Milky Way. There are many, many stars in the Galaxy, and our Sun is only one of them.
Scientists have also discovered many other galaxies in the universe (宇宙). They are very
far away and their light has to travel for many years to reach us. So how large is the universe It is impossible to imagine.
Scientists have sent spaceships to the planet Mars to take photos. They have even sent
spaceships to travel outside the solar system. However, no spaceship has travelled far enough to reach other stars in our Galaxy.
Scientists have always asked the questions: with so many stars in the universe, are we
alone, or is there life out there in space Have there been visitors to the Earth from other
planets Why has no one communicated with us We do not know the answers yet.
Planets in our solar system There are (1)________ planets going around the Sun in our solar system.
Life on the planet No life has been found on the other planets (2) ________the Earth in the solar system because they have a (3)________ environment from that on the Earth.
The solar system It is a small part of the Galaxy and the (4) ________is only one star in it.
Galaxies Besides our galaxy, many other galaxies in the universe have been(5) ________. But they are very far away from us and it (6)________many years for their light to reach us.
The universe It is (7)________ large to imagine.
Spaceships Spaceships have been sent to take photos of the planet (8)________ ________and outside the solar system. But other stars in our Galaxy are so far that no spaceships can (9)________ to them.
Questions There are many questions about the universe and life in space, but no one can (10) ________them yet.
