(2023· 新 高考卷 II )As an artist who shares her journey on social media, I’m often asked by curious followers how to begin an art journey. Unfortunately, there is no magic list I can offer. I do remember, though,
what it was like to be a complete beginner. So I’ve put together some good tips for starting an art journey.
·Start small. I suggest using a sketchbook (素描本) for small studies. These small studies provide inspiration and may be a springboard for more complex works in the future. 6 You’ll want to look back on your journey
to see how far you’ve come.
·Paint often and paint from life. There’s no better way to improve than to put in those brush miles. Whether
you paint still lifes, portraits, or landscapes, paint from life as much as possible. 7
·Continually challenge yourself to try something new. 8 Artistic growth can be a bit painful. Welcome to the club;we’ve all been there. I love taking on challenges. I once took up a challenge to create a painting every
day for a month and post the works online.
· 9 Seeking and accepting constructive feedback (反馈) is crucial to growth. I post my work on social media and, in turn, have met some of the kindest people. They make me feel valued and respected, no matter my
level of artistic ability.
The journey you’re on won’t follow a straight path. 10 Push through, give it time and put in the effort.
You will harvest the rewards of an artistic life.
A .Get out of your comfort zone.
B .Make career plans and set goals.
C .Don’t throw away your beginner art.
D .Share your work if you feel comfortable doing so.
E .You’ll hit roadblocks, and you’ll feel discouraged at times.
F .Evaluate your performance and, if needed, redefine your role.
G .You’ll develop that painting muscle memory that only comes with repetition.

1. (2023· 山 东 · 德州 市第一 中学校联考模拟预测 )When you’re put on the spot, it can feel like a sink-or-swim situation, which can be tense, stressful and pressurizing, especially when you deliver a public
speaking. 1
Adjust your use of language
When we feel ourselves to be on a stage, we sometimes use words that are cold, formal, and passive. We do this because we’re anxious and seek to establish authority. Let’s say you’re a doctor, and you’ re standing in front of a group of your peers. You might find yourself making statements like, “It is significant that doctors help solve this problem.” 2 When you say, “We must solve this problem,” you are speaking more simply and persuasively. The word “we” is more easygoing. When you use language like this, you get closer to actually
solving the problem simply by directly pointing out that it is all of yours to solve.
Pose more questions
Questions are two-way interactions. 3 No longer are you alone “onstage” in front of your audience — you’re engaging in a dialogue. Even when you’ re making a statement, you can think of it as an answer to an unasked question. That in itself can give the encounter a conversational feel and lower the pressure you might experience. The technique makes the presentations more connected and conversational, allowing you to feel more
relaxed. Just ask questions the audience might have and answering them.
Beware of the memorisation trap
4 But memorisation also can come back to haunt us. Giving our communication the feel of a formal, over-rehearsed presentation, it can make us nervous as we struggle to remember a great deal that we’d thought of in advance of the actual conversation. Instead of rushing to memorise, try writing out what you’d like to say and then turning that into a short, bullet-pointed outline. Doing so allows you to think through the material in detail while
giving you a brief structure that’s easier to keep in mind. 5
A .You will become more connected with your peers.
B .Writing down what we might want to say can help.
C .You and others around you enter into a back-and-forth.
D .Here are three ways that you can improve your delivery.
E .Conversations are more casual and familiar than performances.
F .Language like this creates distance between yourself and others.
G .Using that structure, you can more confidently fill in the gaps as you go.
2.(2023·山东济南 · 山东师范大学附中校考模拟预测) The power of positive thinking
Is your glass of milk half-full or half-empty 6 Do they focus on the positives (a half-full glass) or the negatives (a half-empty one) Thinking positively, with a belief that most things will turn out well, is called optimism — and it’s known to boost your well-being. The good news is that everybody can learn to think more
positively.
7
Research shows that people who are optimistic and think positively tend to experience less stress and cope well when faced with life’s challenges. People who are more pessimistic (expect that the worst will happen) may
find it hard to believe that these challenges will pass.
Worrying is like a fire alarm.
Everybody can worry from time to time. Worrying can help to keep you safe — if you were never worried and
were overly positive about how things would turn out, you wouldn’t recognize risks. “ 8 It’s like a fire alarm,” says child psychotherapist Rachel Melville-Thomas. “The trouble is that sometimes it goes off when there
isn’t a huge danger to face.” When this happens, you can feel anxious and hopeless about what lies ahead.
Learn to think positively.
Optimism is shaped by your genes which carry characteristics inherited from your parents and by what happens to you. 9 Research has shown that it can help to draw or write an outcome that’s positive-for
example, an image of you playing guitar, having passed your next grade. 10
A .Your genes will in turn help obtain it.
B .This question makes you lost in thought.
C .Why is thinking positively good for you
D .Imagining this can motivate you to work to achieve it.
E .Worrying is our brain warning us of something threatening.
F .However, whatever your starting point is, everyone can learn it.
G .This saying is often used to test people’s outlook in a situation.
3.(2023·山东聊城 · 统考三模)Long before metal oven racks (架子) were invented, many people would place the things that they wanted to bake onto stones to keep them from burning in ovens or even directly on heat.
11 However, there are actually many applications for its use in baking.
Typical baking stones can be made of various materials, and tend to be either round or rectangular in shape.
The clay stone is popular, but some people like marble. Some have a shiny surface and others don’t have. 12
Some people suggest that heading to the local kitchen supply store to purchase a baking stone is a waste of time and
instead they purchase tiles (瓦片) from kitchen or gardening stores. 13 They may contain high amounts of lead
and cooks would need to test them for the presence of lead before using them to cook.
14 Baking stones absorb and keep heat very well, so when you put them in the oven and allow the oven to run for a while, the stones heat up. They transfer heat directly to the bottom of your bread or other goods, as the goods can be placed directly on the stone so they never start out on a cold surface. This allows bread to bake more evenly all over, resulting in a much nicer crust (酥皮)—particularly for artisan bread.
There are many benefits of using a baking stone to cook pizza or bread. 15 For another, the stone is
also praised for its ability to evenly heat the crust and lessen chances that pizza or other bread will burn.
A .The way that baking stones work is simple.
B .Baking stones can be found in all shapes and sizes.
C .For one thing, it tends to produce more desirable qualities.
D .That makes them uniquely useful for many cooking creations.
E .Today, the baking stone is associated most with cooking pizza.
F .So you can choose from a great variety of stones on the market.
G .However, most of these products are not rated for safety in cooking.
4.(2023·广东广州 · 统考二模) What makes a work of architecture great Most people would argue that aesthetics
(美感) are the most important. 16 However, Roman architect Marcus Vitruvius Pollio believed that we should
also consider durability and function when assessing a structure. The Rostonville Library in my city is a great
example of Vitruvius’s principles.
Constructed entirely of granite—a hard and tough stone, the library is durable. It can withstand environmental pollution. For example, it is resistant to acid rain. Moreover, its granite structure is stable so it’s more likely to
survive an earthquake. 17 It uses solar energy for heating and a rooftop garden for cooling.
18 Providing free access to print and digital information, it conveys a feeling of openness and accessibility. Furthermore, the entire library is on one level, and it has an open design—there are no inner walls or dividers. In addition, large windows let in plenty of natural light, so it’s easy to see and get to each department
within the library.
Finally, the library is beautiful, with aesthetically pleasing details both inside and out. The large windows are copper-framed (铜框的). The copper color provides an interesting contrast against the color of the granite structure and it will remain as the copper ages. Growth from the rooftop garden, which reaches down the sides of the
building, adds to the aesthetics of the building. 19
Durability, functionality and beauty make the Rostonville Library a great structure. Architects who follow
Vitruvius’s principles help to make the city more pleasant to live in. 20
A .The library is also sustainable.
B .It is true that beauty is critical.
C .This is not the only concern of the architects.
D .The library was designed with functionality in mind.
E .It softens the lines of the structure and helps it to fit into its natural surroundings.
F .Plus ,the library was built on the edge of the city park ,surrounded by native plants.
G .Buildings that fulfill these criteria offer both peace of mind and beauty for their users.
5.(2023·江苏 · 统考模拟预测)Whether it is the flu or any of the other cold-like viruses rising in winter, it seems that stuffy noses and sore throats are common symptoms. You may have noticed, however, that your cold seems to get better or worse depending on the time of day. 21 Then, they partially clear up throughout the day, only
to get worse once more as you get to bed. Why does this happen
Currently, the leading idea is that symptom severity is linked to our circadian rhythm ( 昼 夜 节 律). The circadian rhythm is very important for daily cellular processes and can be affected by the amount of sleep and light
we get each day. 22
While resting, the body uses the downtime to recover. 23 This also applies when you are ill—the body floods the blood with white blood cells called leukocytes, resulting in and immune response against diseases
and the immune system fighting infection.
This, therefore, explains why our cold symptoms get worse as we settle down for a night’s sleep. Cells infected by viruses are attracted to the local area and killed, causing soreness in the affected tissues, and mucus (鼻
涕) floods the nose to join the fight. 24 You wake up feeling like death due to the battle happening within.
25 The first is simply gravity. When you lie down, your mucus builds up in the nose, causing pressure and headaches. As you stand up, you start to feel better. Another factor is about hormones. Hormonal imbalances can be caused by lack of sleep at night and could influence immune function, leading to a cycle of sleepless nights
and then feeling worse.
A .Others are reporting the same thing.
B .It’s a good thing, but it really doesn’t feel like it.
C .Gravity helps out a lot more when you are upright.
D .Most commonly, you wake up with worse symptoms.
E .There are other reasons why you might feel worse at night.
F .This is why sleep is so important after you’ve been to the gym.
G .It also plays a critical role in controlling the heart and the immune system.
6.(2023·浙江金华 · 校联考一模) How to communicate complex information
Did you ever have to read a presentation where you felt like you’re lost in confusing terms, data and concepts Are you giving others this same experience 26 But there are ways you can simplify your presentation and
reengage your audience. Here’s how you can get complex information across.
Use interactive content. It gets the readers more involved in your presentation by letting them play an active part. 27 Beyond that, questionnaires and chatbots provide personalized and specific answers to readers as part of your presentation. Making your presentation interactive used to be hard, but now you can just use Storydoc.
Go make your first interactive presentation. It’s easy as pie.
28 No one will read a presentation with a thousand words. Do everyone a favor and use images. Images can be super effective at communicating complex information and save you a lot of needless text. In fact, visual representation of data and concepts can often convey what words cannot. Use diagrams and images to
illustrate your points and simplify the complex.
Narrate your content. 29 Whether it’s through text to speech Al or video bubbles, centering your presentation around a story can help guide your audience through the complexity, making it more digestible,
engaging, and memorable.
Use examples and fables. They can help explain clearly the complexity of ideas for they are what we’ve already known and understood. 30 More importantly, the real secret lies in selecting examples that are not
just familiar but also deeply relevant-those are the ones that will truly ring with your listeners
A .Show, don’t tell
B .Make every word count.
C .This makes the complex concepts less new and more familiar
D .If you don’t sound excited, the listeners won’t feel excited either
E .Storytelling is another powerful tool for communicating complex concepts.
F .Communicating complex information is a common challenge in presentations
G .For example, allow them to choose the content route they wish to take and control the pace.
7. (2023·浙江温州 · 统考一模)A majority of the people do not read the classics. Their reasons begin with the
language being too difficult and end with the storyline to distant to the present context. Love for classics is
obviously not at first sight. 31 We begin as acquaintances (泛泛之交) and eventually become close friends with
private jokes between us. So how does one approach a classic
Don’t be afraid to be confused.
We get it: it’s hard to power through confusion. It doesn’t feel great when a book makes you feel confused. Every reader has to start somewhere. 32 Instead, be proud of yourself for trying, and get excited about all
the new things you’ll learn.
Research, research, research.
33 Researching the author-and the time and place they were writing about-can help you situate yourself during tricky passages. The author’s experience, viewpoint, and historical context might help you make
the connections you might not have otherwise.
Just pick the book up.
This step is self-explanatory. While it’s not hard to just pick a book up, we know how difficult it can be to
convince yourself to do so. 34 Take a deep breath, then leap onto the deck (甲板) of Melville’s Pequod or step
cautiously through the gates of Castle Dracula.
Remember: there is no right answer.
There is no perfect way to read a classic text. There is no defining interpretation, no singular, exact answer. Your goal as a reader is to discover what aspects and insights are meaningful to you. Enjoy the process. 35
Even if your interpretation of the work isn’t quite perfect, it is still valuable!
A .It is a gradual affair.
B .Allow the book to grow with you.
C .It has some form of historical influence.
D .Before you turn to page one, do some digging.
E .Never beat yourself up for not knowing something.
F .Remind yourself that it’s a new learning opportunity.
G .Consider what confuses you, read with intention, and think critically.
8.(2023·广东广州 · 广州市协和中学校考一模)Collecting must be one of the most varied of human activities, and it’s one that many of us psychologists find fascinating. Collecting hundreds or even thousands of postcards, chocolate wrappers or whatever, takes time, energy and money that could surely be put to much more productive
use. And yet there are millions of collectors around the world. 36
There are the people who collect because they want to make money. They’ll look for, say, antiques that they can buy cheaply and expect to be able to sell at a profit. 37 Buying cheap and selling dear can give the
collector a sense of achievement. And as selling online is so easy, more and more people are joining in.
Many collectors collect to develop their social life. 38 This is a variant on joining a bridge club or a
gym, and similarly brings them into contact with like-minded people.
Some may spend their whole lives in a hunt for this. 39 There is a danger, though, that if the
individual is ever lucky enough to find what they’re looking for, rather than celebrating their success, they may feel
empty, now that the goal that drove them on has gone.
40 Stamp collecting, for example, opens a window to other countries, and to the plants, animals, or
famous people shown on their stamps. Similarly, many collectors collect fossils, animals and plants from around the globe, and their collections provided a vast amount of information about the natural world. Without those
collections, our understanding would be greatly reduced.
A .Why do they do it
B .But there may well be a psychological element, too.
C .Another potential reason for it is its educational value.
D .A particular example is a rare early recording by a particular singer.
E .A psychological reason for collecting is the need for a sense of control.
F .Psychologically, this can give a purpose to a life that otherwise feels aimless.
9.(2023·广东梅州 · 统考三模) How will you secure your bank account with safety tips
All of us love the convenience of online banking, but is our data preserved online 41 . So if you are
using mobile payments or just confirming your balance, you require to keep in mind some safety tips.
Be smart with your password
The very basic thing of protection is the online password. Applying private information like your birthday or a pet’s name may be simple to memorize, but it is more common. So, try to avoid this kind of information as your password. A secure and strong password will be a unique combination of words, special characters, and numbers.
42 .
Always be aware of phishing
Phishing is the common approach adopted to collect secret information. 43 . When you get a message from someone you never know, no need to click on any links. Most commonly, phishing trials will typically build an insight of urgency by either misleading you that you have won a prize, or that there is a concern
with your account. Before you proceed to give your account information, check if it’s a phishing message.
Better to use the mobile banking application
44 . But the app will give an additional level of security. Actually, it is one of the very safe ways to

10.(2023·广东广州 · 广州六中校考三模)If you had to choose between spending all your pocket money on games and snacks, or saving some of it for the future, which would you choose 46 When you have the opportunity to treat yourself to your favourite things, it can be really hard to say no. Before you know it, all your
money is gone!
It’s easy to see the fun in buying an ice-cream or going shopping with friends. 47 That’s because saving creates opportunities and opens the door to adventures. Suddenly it doesn’t seem quite so boring when you
realise saving money is the key to making your dreams come true.
48 It’s good to give yourself a mix of short-term and long-term goals, so think of something you’d like to buy that you could save up for in a few weeks. Write down how much it costs, then work out how much you can afford to save each week and how long it will take you to reach your goal. It’s important to be realistic because
you’ll soon get bored if you plan to save every single penny.
It helps to keep your savings separate from the rest of your money, so that you don’t accidentally spend it. 49 Most people choose to save their money in a savings account, as this gives them an opportunity to earn interest. Some savings accounts allow you to withdraw money whenever you like, but some will keep your money
locked away for several years or until you become an adult.
If you’re new to saving, start off by thinking of some fun goals. Every penny you save takes you one step
closer to reaching your goal. 50
A .What could be more exciting than that
B .You could use a money box or a savings account.
C .Or, do you prefer to spend it on your favourite novels
D .The key to successful saving is setting yourself a goal.
E .With a savings account, you can spend your money freely.
F .Think about this as we all have to make such decisions again and again.
G .However, you might be surprised to hear that saving money can be even more exciting.七选五

典例二

【导语】本文是说明文。文章介绍了一些开始艺术之旅的好建议。
6 .根据前文“Start small. I suggest using a sketchbook (素描本) for small studies. These small studies provide
inspiration and may be a springboard for more complex works in the future. (从小开始。我建议使用一个素描本 进行小规模的学习和实践。这些小的学习和实践可以提供灵感, 并成为未来更复杂的作品的跳板)”以及后文 “You’ll want to look back on your journey to see how far you’ve come.
Paint often and paint from life. There’s no better way to
improve than to put in those brush miles. Whether you paint still lifes, portraits, or landscapes, paint from life as
much as possible. (经常作画, 且从生活中作画。没有什么比不断练习更能提高你的艺术水平了。无论你是绘 制静物、肖像还是风景, 都要尽可能地从真实生活中去观察和绘制)”可知, 本段主要讲述不断练习绘画, 所 以 G 项“You’ll develop that painting muscle memory that only comes with repetition.
challenge yourself to try something new. (不断挑战自己,尝试新事物)”以及后文“Artistic growth can be a bit
painful. (艺术的成长可能会有点痛苦)”可知, A 项“Get out of your comfort zone. (走出你的舒适区)”是对前句
的进一步说明,和后文构成顺承关系。故选 A 项。
9.分析设空处, 位于段首, 是本段的中心句, 根据后文“Seeking and accepting constructive feedback (反馈) is crucial to growth. I post my work on social media and, in turn, have met some of the kindest people. They make me feel valued and respected, no matter my level of artistic ability. (寻求并接受有建设性的反馈对于你的成长非常 重要。我在社交媒体上发布我的作品,并因此结识了一些最友好的人。无论我的艺术水平如何,他们都让 我感到受到了重视和尊重)”可知, 本段主要讲述了是分享自己的作品, 所以 D 项“Share your work if you feel
comfortable doing so. (如果你感觉舒适的话,分享你的作品)”符合文意,是本段的中心句。故选 D 项。
10.分析设空处, 空处位于第二句, 此处应是对前一句的进一步解释, 并同时引出后文, 根据前文“The journey you’re on won’t follow a straight path. (你的旅程不会是一条笔直的道路)”以及后文“Push through, give it time and put in the effort. You will harvest the rewards of an artistic life. (坚持下去, 给它时间, 付出努力。你将收获 艺术生活的回报)”可知, E 项“You’ll hit roadblocks, and you’ll feel discouraged at times. (你会遇到障碍,有时
你会感到气馁)”是对前句的进一步说明,和后文构成顺承关系。故选 E 项。

1. (2023· 山 东 · 德州 市第一 中学校联考模拟预测 )When you’re put on the spot, it can feel like a
sink-or-swim situation, which can be tense, stressful and pressurizing, especially when you deliver a public
speaking.

Worrying can help to keep you safe — if you were never worried and were overly positive about how things would turn out, you wouldn’t recognize risks.

4.(2023·广东广州 · 统考二模)What makes a work of architecture great Most people would argue that
aesthetics (美感) are the most important. 16 However, Roman architect Marcus Vitruvius Pollio believed that
we should also consider durability and function when assessing a structure. The Rostonville Library in my city is a
great example of Vitruvius’s principles.
The copper color provides an interesting contrast against the color of the granite structure
and it will remain as the copper ages.

21 Then, they partially clear up throughout the
day, only to get worse once more as you get to bed.

Did you ever have to read a presentation where you felt like you’re lost in confusing terms, data and concepts
Are you giving others this same experience 26 But there are ways you can simplify your presentation and
reengage your audience.

Every reader has to start somewhere. 32 Instead, be proud of yourself for trying, and get excited about all

Research, research, research.
33 Researching the author-and the time and place they were writing about-can help you situate yourself during tricky passages. The author’s experience, viewpoint, and historical context might help you make

8. (2023·广东广州 · 广州市协和 中学校考一模 )Collecting must be one of the most varied of human activities, and it’s one that many of us psychologists find fascinating. Collecting hundreds or even thousands of postcards, chocolate wrappers or whatever, takes time, energy and money that could surely be put to much more
productive use.
39 There is a danger, though, that if the individual is ever lucky enough to find what they’re looking for, rather than celebrating their success, they may feel
empty, now that the goal that drove them on has gone.
40 Stamp collecting, for example, opens a window to other countries, and to the plants, animals, or famous people shown on their stamps.
