Important sentence patterns: 1)An adult panda weighs many times more than a baby panda.. 2)At birth, a baby panda is about 0.1 to 0.2 kilos. 3)A panda can live up to 20-30years. 2. Use the target language to describe make comparisons between wild animals.
Cultural Consciousness To encourage the students to care for animals and foster the consciousness of protecting animals. To guide the students to pay attention to the national treasure and understand its living habits and basic knowledge.
Thinking Quality Under the teacher’s guide, encourage students to accurately obtain and express their differences and make some comparisons between pandas and elephants and improve the logic, critical and creative thinking.
Learning Ability Most students will be able to stimulate interest in learning English by classifying words before listening and focusing key information during listening. After listening, students can further judge, think and express their ideas and develop their oral skills by digging deeply according to the setting of listening information tasks and text reconstruction and train the students’ cooperation with their partners.
重点 Master the expressions of multiples. Use the target language to describe make comparisons between wild animals. Improve comprehensive listening and speaking ability through listening training.
难点 Ss can accurately grasp more sentence patterns for comparison. Ss can hear the information correctly in the form of dialogue output.
教学过程 集体研讨
Step1 Lead in Guess the animals according to the sounds. Play some sounds of animals. T: All kinds of animals are living happily on the earth. Step 2. Pre-listening. Say something about the two animals. Provide some information for Ss to fill in the blanks with numbers. After learning some information about the two animals, make conversations. T: Which one is bigger of the two animals Let's make a comparison. Height This panda is 200 cm ____ ____ this elephant. Weight This panda weighs much ____ ____ this elephant. Eating This panda eats much____ ____ this elephant.
Through the comparison between the two animals, learn the usages of comparative degree of adj. Watch a video Watch a video of elephant giving birth and learn something about elephant facts. T: How about the baby elephant and the baby panda?Which one is bigger when they're born? Show a chart about the growth process of a panda. T: What do you think of a baby panda Do you have any question about it Step 3. While-listening. Listen and check(√) the numbers you hear. Tip1: When you are listening the tape,it is a good way to pay attention to numbers in the dialogue. Listen again and complete the sentences. Tip2:Find the key words. Guide Ss to find out the key words of each sentence. Listen for the third time and fill in the blanks. Step 4. Post-listening. Work in groups and use different ways to tell about pandas, such as making a conversation and giving a speech. Let Ss to take turns telling classmates about pandas. Invite a few of them to talk in class. T: So which one is bigger when they're born? S:Elephants. T: So we can say, Baby pandas are much smaller than baby elephants. Step 5. Conclusion. Watch a video and learn more about baby pandas. T: We all live on the same earth, every life should be respected.
