Computers, smartphones, and other machines are the perfect servants. They always do what they are “told”. We usually “tell’ them to do thing by using a mouse or keyboard. But what if we could just talk to them normally and literally (真正地) tell them what to do
This type of technology , known as voice control or voice recognition (声音识别), has been shown in films and TV shows since the 1960s. The Star Trek TV series, which debuted (首播) at this time, showed spaceships that could reply to human voice commands (命令). The 1968 film, 2001: A Space Odyssey featured an intelligent computer called HAL 9000. It’s a computer that human astronauts could talk to. It was mainly used to play chess and maintain (维修) the astronauts’ spaceship.
Real-world voice recognition, on the other hand, is used for more everyday tasks. You might be familiar with Siri and Alexa, two examples of voice recognition software made by Apple and Amazon. They can be asked to do many things, from setting alarms and playing music to placing online grocery (日常采购) orders and activating household appliances (家用电器).
One of the nice things about voice recognition is that it can be used when we’re on the go. When you’re driving a car or walking down the sidewalk (人行道), it can be inconvenient or even dangerous to pick up your smartphone and type away on the keyboard. Voice recognition allows you to focus on (专注于) whatever you’re doing at the moment while still doing other tasks.
People with hearing disabilities can also benefit (获益), as speech recognition software can be used to “listen” to spoken words and turn them into text that deaf people can read. Advanced speech recognition software can even hear words spoken in one language and then translate them into another language.
49. What do we know about voice recognition
A. It came into service in the 1960s. B. A 1968 film came up with the idea.
C. It is only used in high-tech areas. D. It is used by people in their daily lives.
50. How does voice recognition help keep people safe
A. It allows you to type on the keyboard more conveniently.
B. It encourages people to do many tasks at the same time.
C. It helps you focus on what you are doing.
D. It can control your car for a short while.
51. What can voice recognition do in the real world
A. Turn spoken words into text for the deaf. B. Recognize a certain voice.
C. Play chess. D. Create languages.

I didn’t want to be a bodybuilding champion. I wanted to be the best bodybuilder of all time.
Deep, deep down ask myself, “Who do you want to be ” Not what, but who. I’m talking about thinking it out for yourself, “What makes you happy ”
You have to think outside the box. That’s what I believe, after all. What’s the point of being on this Earth if all you want to be is be killed and avoid trouble
We have so many rules in life about everything. I say break the rules. Don’t break the law, but break the rules.
I remember that after I had finished with my bodybuilding career I wanted to act. I wanted to be a star in films. Everyone had the same thought that I couldn’t be done. They said, “Look at this body, you have this huge monstrous (巨大的) body, you’re overly developed.” They thought I wouldn’t fit into movies. But I didn’t listen to them. Those were their rules. I was completely certain that I could do it.
Then I got my big break (重大转机) in Conan the Barbarian. That shows you should trust yourself no matter what anyone else thinks.
On that movie, the director said, “If we didn’t have Schwarzenegger, we would have to build one.” Then when I did The Terminator, I said, “I’ll be back…” One of the famous lines in movie history, all because of my crazy accent (腔调). It just shows that you should never listen to those who say you can’t do something.
Don’t be afraid to fail. In everything that I have tried, I’ve always been willing to fail. Don’t be afraid of making decisions. You can’t be paralyzed (吓倒) with the fear of failure or you will never push yourself. You can push because you believe in yourself and your imagination. You know it’s the right thing to do and success will come. Don’t be afraid to fail.
—By Arnold Schwarzenegger

A study into how lazy British people are has found more than half of the adults are so idle (懒散的) that they’d catch the lift rather than climb two flights of stairs.
Just over 2,000 people were quizzed by independent researchers at Nuffield Health, Britain’s largest health center. The results were extremely surprising.
About one in six people questioned said if their remote control was broken, they would continue watching the same channel rather than get up.
More than one third of those questioned said they would not run to catch a bus. Worryingly, of the 654 respondents with children, 64% said they were often too tired to play with them.
This led the report to conclude that it’s no wonder that one in six children in the UK are classified as obese (very fat) before they start school.
Dr Sarah Dauncey, medical director of Nuffield Health, said, “People need to get fitter, not just for their own sake, but for the sake of their families, friends and evidently (明显地;显然) their pets too.”
“If we don’t start to take control of this problem, a whole generation will become too unfit to perform even the most fundamental tasks.”
And Scotland’s largest city, Glasgow, was shamed as the idlest city in the UK, with 75% questioned admitting they do not get enough exercise, followed closely by Birmingham and Southampton, both with 67%.
The results bring serious challenges for the National Health Service, where obesity-related illnesses such as heart disease and cancer have been on a steady increase for the past 40 years and are costing billions of pounds every year.
56. What does the underlined word “quizzed” mean
A. questioned B. answered C. listened D. heard
57. Of 654 respondents with children, 64% said __________.
A. they were often too busy to play with their children
B. they were often so tired that they couldn’t play with their children

D. they were often ill and they couldn’t play with their children

A. All the adults in the UK are very lazy.
B. Half of the children are very fat before they go to school.
C. Pets will be in trouble if their owners don’t keep healthy.
D. All people in Glasgow feel ashamed because they don’t get enough exercise.
59. From the last paragraph, we can learn __________ if they keep lazy.
A. people may have heart disease
B. people can work at home all the time
C. people like shopping online
D. people don’t like climbing the stairs
60. What does the passage mainly talk about
A. The health service in the UK B. A study of British people’s lifestyles
