My phone is silent,no one calling to chat. But then chatting on the phone is not so popular these days.I check my Meta page.I “like” a few of my friends’ posts as an attempt to spark a conversation but all I get is a thumbs-up response,or nothing at all.I move on to Twitter.Mostly I read the news,“like” a few stories and retweet one or two.
I decide I need to get out of the house.I go to the grocery store in search of milk and bread and human contact. All the customers are on their phone, making plans or double-checking items on their list.“The avocados aren’t ripe.Do you still want them ” “Do we need eggs ” But they’re not asking me.I avoid the self checkout, convinced that if I use it,I’m really doing the checkout person’s job without pay.Plus,I want some human contact,a little conversation.I line up.The cashier speaks to me,without looking up,“Need a bag ” “No,thank you,” I say.She waves her hand towards the credit card machine.I tap.I pack my own groceries.
Later I stop at a local bank. They’ve been closed for a few weeks doing some renovations,“to serve you better”.I walk past the ATMs in the lobby and notice that inside, all the bank teller counters are gone.Should I feign(假装) ignorance just for a little conversation I do.I say I’ve misplaced my PIN and have to create a new one for my debit card;the young man is helpful.I ask about the fate of the bank tellers, one of whom was planning to become a writer.I usually chose her line so we could chat a bit about writing contests and publishing and writer’s block. Now she’s missing.
At home,my phone is flashing;I have a message. It’s from my youngest grandson. He’s sent me a few emojis of my favourite things:my Fiat, red lipstick,a heart and a happy face. What can I say
24.What problem does the writer have

25.Why does the writer avoid the self checkout at the store
A.To make the checkout person have free time.
B.To keep away from a job without pay.
C.To have close contact with real people.
D.To keep other customers from being troubled.
26.Why does the writer pretend ignorance at the bank
A.To chat with a bank teller about writing.
B.To judge the fate of the bank tellers.

A.I’m Feeling Lonely in the Hyper-connected World
B.I Find It Hard to Communicate with Others Now

Australians are pretty bold (大胆的) when it comes to humour. Not afraid of saying something insulting (冒犯的) in the name of a good laugh, they generally don’t hold back. This is always done in fun, however.
You get yourself a haircut before going to meet your new Aussie friend. You’re expecting to be praised, but what you hear is,“Did you have a fight with a lawnmower (割草机) ” You might take this as an insult, but it’s just your friend’s way of saying that you’ve had a haircut.
Your friend comes knocking at your bedroom door one morning to tell you’re late for class. You were up studying late the night before and you look a mess.Your friend thinks you need to put a brush through your hair before leaving, but instead of just saying so he says,“Wow.Your hair looks like a bush pig’s arse.” He’s trying to be nice.
Australia is one of the cultures on this planet where making fun of someone is a sign of friendship. If you find yourself being made fun of a lot,it could be that you’ve scored yourself a whole lot of new friends.Consider yourself lucky—these insults are all part of building a relationship.
Australians also use a lot of sarcasm (讽刺).You foolishly say something that’s obvious. For example,“A six pack of beer is named after the number of beers you get in the pack, the number being six.” A normal answer would be,“That is the most obvious statement I’ve ever heard.” But an Australian would say,“Really You’re so clever.”
Now let’s say your teacher tells you that there will be a test the following day.Australians might say,“Great.I can’t wait to add preparing for a test to my already long to-do list.Thank you for this gift.”
28.According to paragraphs 2 and 3,Australians try to be humorous .
A.by telling funny jokes B.by making fun of friends
C.by laughing at themselves D.by showing unfriendliness
29.What does the author advise you to do when you are laughed at by an Australian
A.Accept it readily. B.Fight back bravely.
C.Mind your behaviour. D.End the relationship.
30.What do Australians want to express by saying “Thank you for this gift” in the last paragraph
A.Dislike. B.Worry.
C.Gladness. D.Thankfulness.
31.How is the text mainly developed
A.By telling stories. B.By making comparisons.
C.By providing examples. D.By examining differences.

One way to prevent anxiety from getting out of control is to recognise its benefits. It is a mistake to think that we’d make better decisions if only we keep our feelings under control.Instead,a mix of feelings like anxiety and logical thinking leads to sound decision-making.It’s true that there is plenty of research showing that higher levels of anxiety can make us more likely to avoid risks in our decision-making.There is also evidence that anxiety can increase the attention you pay to relevant information.
Recent studies have shown that people who are anxious about their relationships (for example, they fear to be abandoned) tend to be better at recognising people who tell lies and are more likely to raise the alarm when danger is present.
In the real world though,it’s worth realising that feeling anxious once in a while is extremely common. It communicates to others that you care, and what’s more,it’s probably a sign that you are intelligent. At least two published studies have identified that people who score higher on measures of anxiety also tend to perform better on intelligence tests. This seems reasonable:if you’re a thinker, you are sure to be always thinking about the future and imagine possible plots, including bad ones.
The important thing,if you are a worrywart (杞人忧天者),is not to let your fear destroy your dreams. And don’t bury your head in the sand.Instead, act on your fears—do the research as well as preparation,so rather than walking blindly into what you fear, you meet the challenge in full readiness.
When anxiety beats you,or casts a shadow over your life, this is a serious problem. No one is denying that. But like everyday anxiety of this kind that you feel before a presentation or an interview, you needn’t see it as your enemy.Anxiety is an important feeling, developed through evolution. As for people who are fairly anxious by nature, there is reason for cheer, too.Your nerves are a sign of your watchfulness.Listen to them and act on them. Then you can turn your nervousness into your advantage.
32.What can we infer from the first paragraph about anxiety
A.It can enable us to be more focused.
B.It can stop us from thinking logically.
C.It can make us more willing to take risks.
D.It can be the only reason for all bad decisions.
33.What can we learn from the passage
A.Anxious people are less sensitive to danger.
B.Anxious people have difficulty discovering liars.
C.Feeling anxious is more likely to put people at risk.
D.Feeling anxious occasionally is a sign of intelligence.
34.How should we deal with anxiety in the author’s opinion
A.Regard it as our enemy. B.Take action to control it.
C.Avoid being defeated by it. D.Treat it as a minor feeling.
35.What is the theme of the passage
A.Effective ways to prevent anxiety. B.Unexpected benefits of anxiety.
C.Tips on how to keep a good mood. D.Common misunderstandings about anxiety.

A hearty laugh means the same thing on every continent:joy. 36 when we laugh with someone else.
Scientists have found that people around the world can tell whether people are friends or strangers by listening to them laughing together. And the ability is globally owned by people. 37 .The study, published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, used a simple experiment.Psychologist Gregory Bryant recorded pairs of college students having conversations. Some were friends. 38 .He then picked out just the parts in which the two people were laughing. Each cut was only about one second long. Then Bryant and his colleagues at the University of California,Los Angeles, first had volunteers listen to the records of laughter. 39 .They ran the experiment in 24 societies around the globe, including indigenous tribes (土著部落) in New Guinea, tiny villages in Peru and cities in India and China.
40 .They were good at telling whether women were friends. But for other pairs—like two men laughing—it was harder. On average, listeners guessed correctly only about 60 percent of the time.Details about what laughter means require cross-cultural studies.Even in the most remote places on Earth,a laugh among friends is a special sound.

The most delicious memories seem to happen during holidays. And like a squirrel preparing for winter,I put them away to enjoy slowly during the long winter months.Sometimes,I enjoy them for years.
Among them are sweetest recollections:my little girls at the church play and the moment they got their first angel wings;a pink dolly stroller (手推车) wheeled into the bedroom with a tiny voice declaring,“Look what Santa Claus brought me!”;or New Year’s snowmen wearing bright scarves borrowed from a grandma’s fragrant drawer.
But there is one memory that is a little bittersweet—sort of like 80% dark chocolate, but still good for you.
This story brings to mind a colourful candy dish and a very little boy.The occasion was sometime between Christmas and New Year when a few candies in a dish brightened up a dull winter day.
Wrapped in December’s chill,my then 3-year-old grandson,Justin, and I had dashed from the warmth of my parked car into the building where I planned to take care of a few work-related tasks.
A smiling secretary greeted us as we brushed the snowflakes and rubbed our hands to warm them. Then with my grandchild close to my side,I busied myself finishing the items of business that had brought us there. But while his hand remained in mine, his eyes fell on the candy dish sitting nearby.
As we turned to leave, the thoughtful and very observant woman behind the desk asked the question all children wait to hear.
“Honey,” the kind woman said, peering over her glasses at Justin.“Would you like a candy bar ” she asked, her hand pushing the dish close for an easier reach.
The boy looked up questioningly, his eyes meeting mine, permission hanging in the air.A slight nod from me and then a hurried beeline to the candy dish followed. One candy bar was already in his hand.
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式作答。
“Justin!” I said from the doorway.

Good morning, ladies and gentlemen.Thank you for giving me the opportunity to tell you about humour.
A sense of humour is considered to be one of the most important human qualities that improve our life in different ways.Firstly,at school,a humorous teacher can help students focus their attention very easily, and students will become more active and creative when experiencing the joy of learning.Secondly, humour has a positive effect on our health. It’s said that laughter is the best medicine.Thirdly, humour helps us remove stress and have a positive attitude towards life. Finally,I believe humour can be a powerful and delightful way to establish close friendships with people.
Thanks!

“Justin!” I said from the doorway.By this time his pudgy hands had grabbed one—and only one—and he made his way back to me.My voice was somewhat serious as I realised manners had been forgotten.“What do you say ” Hearing this, the little boy turned on his heel, promptly returning to the candy dish.“Get Grandma one, too!” I laughed. The secretary laughed. And even little Justin innocently giggled at the fun we were having.
In the humour of the moment,I felt something hard to swallow. There was a truth that lingered long after the taste of the strawberry candy had disappeared. What example had I set for this little one while often in my care Was he learning more about “getting” and less about gratitude—that heartfelt “thank you” In the years since,I’ve always loved to remember that moment. But one gift I hope we all leave with our children is the importance of a grateful heart.Really, what could be sweeter 单元测评

Pearl Fryar knew he wanted to do something unique with the farmland he bought in South Carolina. He wanted to win the local garden club’s “Yard of the Month” award.
Fryar didn’t have the money to purchase new trees,so he began by using bushes and shrubs that a local nursery had thrown away—plants that looked dead to most people.
Because he worked days at a factory,Fryar often tended his garden at night.Neighbors got used to seeing him stand on the ladder, cutting up his steadily growing bushes. The shrubs began to take on different shapes. As the years went by,the creations became more delicate.Fryar began planting trees and using zip ties, coat hangers,PVC pipe, and even his wife’s old stockings to achieve the forms he wanted.“He has a way of handling plants to make them become what he wants them to be by training, bending, wiring and clipping,” said a neighbor.
Many professional gardeners are amazed by what Fryar has been able to accomplish. Some plants which wouldn’t survive in the South thrived under his care.
Fryar’s attention to detail and his willingness to work hard have made him a local hero.He was the first African American to win “Yard of the Month” from the local garden club.
Fryar’s garden now includes about 400 species of plants and 150 different plant sculptures.A box for donations can be found on the property, but giving is optional.Fryar welcomes people who can’t afford to pay.He understands. He’s been there.“You can be somebody,” he tells students who visit the garden.“Show me anyone who works at anything with a passion and has patience, and they’re going to be successful.Be strong enough not to let the barriers in life stop you.”

Some parents will buy any high-tech toy if they think it will help their child, but researchers said puzzles help children with math-related skills.
Psychologist Susan Levine,an expert on mathematics development in young children at the University of Chicago, found children who play with puzzles between ages 2 and 4 later develop better spatial skills.Puzzle play was found to be a significant predictor of cognition(认知) after controlling for differences in parents’ income, education and the amount of parent talk,Levine said.
The researchers analyzed video recordings of 53 child-parent pairs during everyday activities at home and found children who play with puzzles between 26 and 46 months of age have better spatial skills when assessed at 54 months of age.
“The children who played with puzzles performed better than those who did not,on tasks that assessed their ability to rotate(旋转) and translate shapes,”Levine said in a statement.
The parents were asked to interact with their children as they normally would, and about half of the children in the study played with puzzles at one time.Higher-income parents tended to have children play with puzzles more frequently, and both boys and girls who played with puzzles had better spatial skills. However, boys tended to play with more complex puzzles than girls, and the parents of boys provided more spatial language and were more active during puzzle play than the parents of girls.
The findings were published in the journal Developmental Science.
28.In which aspect do children benefit from puzzle play
A.Building confidence. B.Developing spatial skills.
C.Learning self-control. D.Gaining high-tech knowledge.

A.Parents’ age. B.Children’s imagination.
C.Parents’ education. D.Child-parent relationship.
30.How do boys differ from girls in puzzle play
A.They play with puzzles more often.
B.They tend to talk less during the game.
C.They prefer to use more spatial language.
D.They are likely to play with tougher puzzles.

Britain’s got talent—but we’re still wasting it.That’s the main finding of a new report by researchers from Oxford University.Children of similar cognitive(认知的) ability have very different chances of educational success;it still depends on their parents’ economic, sociocultural and educational resources. This contradicts a commonly held view that our education system has developed enough to give everyone a fighting chance. The researchers looked at the data from groups of children born in three decades:1950s,1970s and 1990s.
They found significant evidence of a wastage of talent.Individuals with high levels of cognitive ability but with disadvantages in their social origins are unable to translate their ability into educational achievement to the same extent as their more advantaged counterparts(对照组).The research, funded by the Nuffield Foundation, found that only about half of the difference in educational achievement between children from advantaged and disadvantaged parental backgrounds is due to differences in their cognitive ability. The other half is due to other factors associated with their backgrounds.
“If we compare the educational achievement of children born in the 1990s to those in the late 1950s and early 1970s,we see that parents’ economic resources have become a less important factor, but their sociocultural and educational resources have grown in significance,” says Dr Bukodi.“That means that your parents’ place in society and their own level of education still play a big part in how well you may do.”
These experts are now calling for policy-makers to acknowledge that formal qualifications are only one channel for upward mobility for high-ability individuals of disadvantaged backgrounds.Dr Bukodi says,“These findings show that there are limits to how far inequalities of opportunity can be reduced through educational policy alone.Changes in educational policy aren’t having the powerful effect we want.”
32.What is the main finding of the research
A.We’re wasting talent due to the education system.
B.Children of similar cognitive ability have different chances of educational success.
C.Children’s cognitive ability depends on different educational resources.
D.The education system has developed enough to give children a fighting chance.
33.How does the author mainly develop the text
A.By making comparisons. B.By discussing a result.
C.By giving examples. D.By presenting reasons.
34.According to Dr Bukodi, what affects children’s educational achievement greatly
A.Children’s cognitive ability.
B.Parents’ economic resources.
C.Educational policy.
D.Parents’ sociocultural and educational backgrounds.
35.What is the author’s attitude towards the finding of the new report
A.Favourable. B.Objective.

阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
We all could say that we have bad days to endure as we go through life, but what does it take to have a really good day
Some would suggest that a day would be great if everything they did turned out well,or they got exactly what they needed. On the other hand, have you ever thought that what you may give someone else may be the best day you ever had especially when you put someone else’s well-being or happiness first on your list
There is special warmth available to you and that warmth can come from a helping hand, doing a small favor for a total stranger,or even a smile.
I recalled a day recently when I had to go to the hospital for an appointment because I wasn’t feeling well and my doctor sent me to a specialist to try and determine the cause.
As I drove to the hospital,I was admittedly feeling gloomy and certainly wasn’t on top of my game.As I approached the hospital,I began my search for a parking spot,a spot that was hard to find with everyone else trying to do the same thing.I finally found a spot not too far from the entrance to the hospital.
As I got out and brought my change out of my pocket,I noticed a man looking somewhat upset standing in front of a parking meter two cars away.He seemed to be searching his pockets for what I supposed was change for the meter.
Although,I really didn’t feel that great,I thought that I should at least go over to him and find out if I could help him.As I approached him,he turned to look at me,feeling at a loss not knowing what to do.I asked him if he had a problem I could help with, and he said without hesitation that he had no change at all because he left it in his house only thinking about visiting his sick wife.

第一节
Dear Jim,
How is everything going I am glad to hear from you.Learning that you are interested in our class-break setting-up exercise,I am writing to tell you more about it.
Designed especially for primary and middle school students, the class-break setting-up exercise contains some basic movements like jumping, moving, running, clapping and kicking.Usually we do it between the second class and the third class in the morning,at the pace of the music, which lasts 20 minutes.
As far as I am concerned,it is necessary and beneficial to do the class-break setting-up exercise.First,as the famous saying goes, life lies in exercise. To maintain physical fitness and overall health,we must involve ourselves in regular sports practice.Besides,it contributes to a pleasant mood.
If you have any further questions, just let me know.
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节
Faced with such a situation,I reached into my pocket.Soon I pulled out some change and gave it to him without hesitation or saying a single word.I went on towards completing my own business. As you know,I had an appointment. For a response,I turned on my heel and said to him as I was walking away,“Have a good day.”
The funny thing was that I felt a lot brighter, and a small smile came to my face. And I seemed to walk just a little quicker.I was walking away when he called out “thank you so much” far behind.Honestly,I didn’t even expect him to say anything. It was satisfying enough to know that I had made a simple gesture to help someone else who needed a helping hand or a little help. However,it brought to my face a smile. It doesn’t take much to lend those in need a helping hand;a big payoff is what you get in return.More importantly, with such warmth catching on,our society will become more and more harmonious and comfortable.第六单元测评

Crossing your legs is an extremely common habit. While you may find it comfortable to sit with one knee crossed over the other,it might be causing health problems that you are not aware of.
A study published in Blood Pressure Monitoring stated that sitting with your legs crossed can increase your blood pressure. The reason this happens is because the blood in your legs has to work against gravity to be pumped back to your heart, crossing one leg over the other increases resistance, making it even harder for the blood to circulate. You won’t feel any immediate effects, but sitting for long periods of time will hurt you forever.
Crossing your legs can also lead to neck and back pain.Ideally,it’s best for our bodies to sit with our feet planted flat, hip width apart,on the floor, but it’s not easy to maintain perfect posture all day at the office. When you sit with your legs crossed your hips are in a twisted position, which can cause one of your pelvic bones(骨盆) to rotate.Since your pelvic bone supports your neck and spine(脊椎),this can cause pressure on your lower and middle back and neck.
You also might notice that when you sit with your legs crossed for long periods of time your feet and legs get painful or have the feeling of being asleep. This is because when one leg sits on top of the other it causes pressure on the veins(静脉) and nerves in your legs and feet.It can cause numbness and/or temporary paralysis in the legs, ankles,or feet. While the feeling of discomfort may only last a minute or two, repeatedly crossing your legs until they feel numb can cause permanent nerve damage.
So next time you sit down, try to get yourself in the habit of sitting with both of your feet on the floor. Not only will it help your posture and stability, but it will also save your health in the long run.
21.Which of the following is not the consequence of crossing legs
A.Neck and back get hurt.
B.Feet and legs become numb.
C.Blood pressure goes up.
D.Pelvic bones keep perfect postures.
22.What does the underlined word “rotate” in paragraph 3 mean
A.Break seriously. B.Hurt greatly.
C.Move casually. D.Straighten suddenly.
23.What does the text mainly talk about
A.How to choose a proper sitting posture.
B.It is advisable not to sit with legs crossed.

D.Blood pressure harms our bodies.

At eleven,I decided to learn to swim. There was a pool at the YMCA offering exactly the opportunity. My mother continually warned against it,and kept fresh in my mind the details of each drowning in the river. But the YMCA pool was safe.
I had a childhood fear of water. This started when I was three years old and my father took me to the beach. The huge waves knocked me down and swept over me.
The pool was quiet.I was afraid of going in all alone,so I sat on one side of the pool to wait for others. Then came a big boy.He yelled,“Hi,how’d you like to be ducked ” With that he picked me up and threw me into the deep end.I landed in a sitting position, and swallowed water. But I was not frightened out of my wits—when my feet hit the bottom,I would make a big jump to come out of the surface. It seemed a long way down.I gathered all my strength when I landed and made what I thought was a great spring upwards. Then I opened my eyes and saw nothing but water.I tried to yell but no sound came out.I went down, down, endlessly.
When I came to consciousness,I found myself lying on the bed in the hospital.
I never went back to the pool.I avoided water whenever I could. This misadventure stayed with me as the years rolled by.It deprived(剥夺) me of the joy of boating and swimming. Finally,I decided to get an instructor.Piece by piece,he built a swimmer.Several months later, the instruction was finished, but I was not.Sometimes the terror would return.
This went on until July.I swam across the Lake Wentworth.Only once did the terror return. When I was in the middle of the lake,I put my face under and saw nothing but bottomless water.I laughed and said,“Well,Mr Terror, what do you think you can do to me ”
I had conquered my fear of water.

Children are starting on digital devices at ever younger ages, and opinions on the effects of children’s digital-media habits are deeply polarized (两极分化的).
Jean Twenge,a psychology professor, thinks excessive use of the Internet and social media makes children lonely and depressed and poses serious risks to their physical and particularly their mental health, sometimes to the point of driving them to suicide.
However,Daniel Kardefelt-Winther of the Innocenti research office of Unicef examined various evidence and found less cause for alarm than is often suggested. Most of the studies be examined seem to show that the technology helps children stay in touch with their friends and make new ones.
The relationship between the use of digital technology and children’s mental health, broadly speaking, appears to be u-shaped.Researchers have found that moderate use is beneficial, whereas either no use at all or extreme use could be harmful.
What worries some experts more is that screens are becoming part of the middle-class armoury (武器库) for perpetuating (巩固) their social advantages.Children from well-off homes are enrolled in private classes to learn skills like “How to be a YouTuber”,which poorer parents cannot afford.
28.What is the second paragraph mainly about
A.The disadvantages of overusing digital media.
B.The bad effects of using digital media.
C.Several bad impacts of using digital media.
D.The advantages of overusing digital media.
29.What is Daniel Kardefelt-Winther’s attitude to the use of digital media
A.Objective. B.Favorable.
C.Indifferent. D.Uncertain.
30.What can you infer from the last paragraph
A.Not all children from rich homes can attend private classes.
B.Not all children from poor homes can learn skills like “How to be a YouTuber”.
C.Digital media is the only way of strengthening the middle-class.
D.Digital media can widen class gap.
31.What is the best title for the text
A.Should Children Interact with Digital Media
B.Should Parents Allow Their Children to Interact with Digital Media
C.What Children Do to Interact with Digital Devices
D.How Children Interact with Digital Devices

Nowadays, more and more employers and employees work online either full-time or part-time,and that number is continuing growing. It’s believed that flying around the world for face-to-face company meetings is a waste of time and money. An effective choice to get rid of it is to use web meetings.
A large number of group presentations, training classes and meetings are done online without losing the face-to-face experience.Web meetings are online meetings where an organiser invites attendees to listen to or watch an online presentation by presenters.Besides, web meetings can be recorded for later use.
Presenters can take real-time surveys to study how to hold a successful meeting. Some web meeting software programmes can monitor the users’ desktop behaviour to see if they become distracted from the presentation and begin working on other documents. If so,the programme can tell presenters when the listeners lose their attention, and how long the distraction lasts. In this way,the presenters will know which parts of their meetings need improving.
Web meetings can work well because they’re hosted on a server (服务器).Images from the presenter’s desktop are taken, uploaded to a server and then downloaded by people who have access to the server, web meetings require a powerful server to deal with several images a second and “serve” them back to thousands of users at the same time.
Companies have two choices when it comes to these servers. They can either buy a special web meeting server to host their meetings on-site,or they can pay for a web meeting service every time and let the off-site provider worry about hosting the meetings. The choice depends on how frequently the company holds web meetings, the average number of people attending the meetings, and the quality of engineering and information technology.
Web meetings are an excellent example of how technology is changing the way we do business. With all the technologies today, the traditional office might soon be a thing of the past.
32.In what way do some web meeting software programmes help improve the meetings
A.By tracking the users’ state.
B.By giving useful suggestions.
C.By sharing detailed technical data.
D.By providing other presenters’ videos.
33.It is better for a company to buy a web meeting server if it .
A.relies little on the quality of IT B.holds web meetings twice a week
C.doesn’t have so many employees D.has branches in the same city or province
34.What can we infer about web meetings
A.Web meetings help presenters stay focused.
B.Web meetings work without the help of a server.

D.Web meetings are likely to be widely used.
35.The purpose of this passage is .

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
I was crossing a very busy street when I heard something familiar.I later asked my sister Jeanne how she had known it was me!She said it was my laugh.I wouldn’t say my laugh is unusual, but I guess to a family member it can spread to him or her in some way.It hits their hearts and makes a deep, clear sound that continues for a long time in their minds.I would tell you our story right here.
I come from a broken family. After we grew up,I haven’t seen my other three brothers and sisters for many years. And that is where this story begins.
My sister Jeanne was only 14 months older than me,but by the time we were teenagers,we had lost touch with each other.By age 19,I had moved away from our home in Wisconsin to live on my father’s horse farm in Virginia, where I worked to treat sick or injured animals.I was told that Jeanne got married at 18,and moved to Chicago. And our connection somehow ended since then.
About five years flew by.I was 24 and on a trip with my husband to New York City,a place where I had never been before. It was a very, very large city.I was used to riding my horse to the corner store where everyone knew everyone and everything going on in the quiet little town of Driver,Virginia. We went to New York to visit my husband’s cousin. We went to Little Italy, the Statue of Liberty,Chinatown, and several other places of interest.I had never seen so many taxis in one place in all my life.
One day,we were crossing a very busy street filled with people.Everyone was in a hurry.I laughed at something my husband said, and I suddenly heard my name called from somewhere behind me:“Chery!” I stopped in the middle of the road.Tears rolled down quickly at once from my face.I knew without a doubt that it was my sister Jeanne.
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;

第一节
Dear Tom,
How are things going with you Hearing that you are also having online classes at home,I’d like to share with you my opinion about it.Since the outbreak of the pandemic,we have experienced a long period of online classes, which have benefited us a lot.First, without teachers’ guidance in person,it is an opportunity to improve our ability of self-control,encouraging us to keep focused on what we are learning.Additionally,we can communicate more with teachers online whenever we have questions. However, for online classes, there is a lack of classroom learning atmosphere. It could be more effective if we are provided with more interactions when taking the lessons.
I am looking forward to hearing from you.
Yours,
Li Hua

Since that time,my sister and I have never been separated. My sister moved back to Wisconsin with me.We live not far away from each other, and we often visit our father together and look after him quite well.We visit each other as well and talk with each other almost every day.Whenever we are in trouble,we help each other. Many years have passed, and we have got into touch with my other brothers and sisters. We are now living a happy life on the horse farm.
