W: Well, I’m glad you’re here. But... I noticed that you’re wearing training shoes.

W: This Friday I will have to give my first presentation on global warming, and I am so nervous. What should I do, Jack
M: Firstly, you need an outline of your presentation. You need to answer any questions you will receive from the audience. Besides, it is easier to convince the audience with actual data. And pictures will keep your audience from being bored. It can hold their attention if you show them along the way. Do you have any
W: No, it is another thing to add to my to-do list. I guess I will need at least three or five examples to persuade people about the dangers of global warming.
M: And you also need to keep them interested and involved.
W: What else do I need Is there anything else I can do to help me relax and be at ease during my presentation
M: You can give your presentation in front of the mirror. Just pretend that you are standing in front of your audience.
W: Pretending is one thing; actually giving a speech is another thing.
M: Think positive. Tell yourself that you can do it. You will be amazed by how well you can express yourself.
W: You are right. I will take your advice to practice and learn to relax.

W: Thank you for listening to MZ morning traffic with Julie Park. City Tunnel is backed up almost 10 miles because a truck went out of control and crashed into the back of a car. The police are already at the scene but it will take at least another hour, so, if you’re on Highway 95, I would recommend the Route 65 instead of the tunnel. According to the weather report, there will be a snowstorm at noon, so please use extra caution because the roads will be slippery and as the temperature goes down this afternoon, the conditions will get worse. Here is another reminder that on Friday the blue line train to DuPont Circle will be delayed for 30 minutes due to railway condition changes. I recommend the passengers take the red line train first, and change to the blue line at East River Station. Be sure to pick up your free pass at the customer service desk before you board the red line. This Saturday, Central Bridge will reopen after two weeks of construction. Stay tuned. I’ll be right back soon with more detailed information about Central Bridge.

M: OK. Next, you’ve been eating at this restaurant since you started university two years ago, but working here will be very different. Our service is fast-paced (快节奏的) and requires constant communication.
W: Oh, I’m now slightly nervous about not having enough time to learn and prepare for this position.
M: Don’t worry, Cindy. I’ll help you learn as long as you are serious about the job.

We people are easy targets for flu in every season. It makes us wonder why we can’t find a way to totally get rid of it The answer is that there’re actually hundreds of kinds of viruses around us. We can’t see and touch them, and we never know which one we will get infected with, so it’s impossible to find a cure for each one. When a virus attacks our body, it’s hard to detach ourselves from it. We will feel awful because we can’t breathe well. The virus raises temperature of our bodies, and makes us get flu. But the heat of our body is killing the virus at the same time. Besides, we may also have a sore throat or a runny nose to prevent the virus from invading our cells. Different people have different symptoms. In China, some people might eat nutritious food to improve their health and fitness, some people only take hot baths and drink warm water, and some people take medicines. However, there’s one interesting thing to notice. Some experts say taking medicines when we have flu is harmful to our health. The reason why the virus stays in our body longer is that our body can’t develop a way to fight against and kill it.

W: Could I have your name please
M: Randolph Philips.
W: Got it. How about at 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, the day after tomorrow or at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday
M: The latter one is better. I have to send my children to the kindergarten every morning, so I could reduce some pressure on my wife.
W: Do you mind telling me your phone number
M: Not at all. It’s 6350973. Could I leave a message to you
W: All right. And what’s wrong with you
M: Well, to tell the truth, I fell from a ladder yesterday while painting my house and sprained my ankle. I just felt a little bit painful at that time, so I didn’t pay too much attention to it. However, I found it was swollen a lot this morning.

M: Where have you been I’ve been trying to get in touch with you for days.
W: I went to New York on business. What’s up
M: I’m out of work.
W: How come You told me it was a good job and you would do it well a month ago. Why did this happen suddenly
M: It’s a long story. In a word, I didn’t do a good job.
W: What are you going to do now
M: I’m trying to find a job as soon as possible. Nicole doesn’t know yet. I didn’t tell her. I spent the past three days at the coffee shop next to your office. She thought I went to work as usual.
W: That’s not the way to solve the problem. Have you ever searched for a job on the Internet
M: Of course, I have. But I wasn’t able to get any of the jobs that I am interested in.
W: Listen. Maybe you could go home and tell Nicole about this. I’m sure she’ll understand.
M: I just don’t know how to bring it up … Well, she has the right to know anyway.

W: A Nissan.
M: Can you afford it
W: Yes. I have enough money.
M: How much could you spend on it at most
W: The most I could spend is $2,000.
M: You’ll never get a new car for that. A second-hand car is your only hope.
W: A used car is OK, if everything goes well.
M: I just heard about something you may want to know. My neighbor who lives next door is an old woman. She and my mother just mentioned that she had to give up her driver’s license due to her bad eyesight. She can’t drive anymore.
W: Is her car in good condition How much do you think she wants
M: It’s really good, only 43,000 miles on it and most of those came from her driving down to New York each winter, but I don’t know the price yet.

M: Alice, how about looking for some fashionable clothes on Nanjing Road this Saturday The weather is getting warmer and warmer.
W: Good idea. I haven’t been to a physical store for a long period.
M: Then where do you usually buy clothes
W: On the Internet. Shopping online is my first choice. Sometimes, I watch live stream broadcasting. There are so many clothes to choose from. Whenever I search on the Internet, I can find whatever I need. Moreover, the goods on the Internet are much cheaper than those in the physical stores. Most importantly, it keeps me from wasting too much time on window-shopping.
M: Could you tell me how to shop online in China
W: Sure. First, you need to download some apps, and then you can seek what you need on them. You can buy everything.
M: But how can I receive the goods
W: The deliverymen will bring them to your house in a few days.
M: Really That’s unbelievable. People in Britain usually get what they buy online after a long time. Sometimes they even forget it. But if you’re not satisfied with the goods, what will you do
W: We can return them to the sellers and get the money back.
M: That’s good. We should learn more from China.

The most common form of traveling overseas nowadays is by airplane. To ensure a pleasurable trip, travelers have to be familiar with the entire procedure from booking tickets to coping with in-flight emergencies. To start with, there are a number of factors that have an effect on travelers’ choices about airlines, including the service, the airfare, and the length of time to destination. Once you’ve booked the ticket, you need to arrive at the airport at least one hour in advance. After that, check your luggage at the main ticket counter and get your boarding pass. When these two things are done, travelers have to pass through the security checkpoint where an X-ray machine is ready to scan if there are any prohibited items. This is for all passengers’ safety. Then go towards the gate to wait for boarding. After travelers go on board, there are still a few things that need to be kept in mind. The plane is equipped with emergency exits, life jackets under the seats, and oxygen masks overhead. Remember to read the safety instructions card that is put in the pocket of the seat in front of you.

W: We care about quality here, not just about doing enough work to get by. When you work at Trader Joe’s, you’re more than an employee. You’re like family!
M: In my family, we usually argue over things like whose turn it is to take out the trash. We also complain a lot when there’s no dessert. Is working here like that
W: OK... Let me give you a better idea. Working here is like being in a family in some ways. You know how children get punished when they don’t clean their rooms, or when they go out with friends before they finish their homework
M: Yes, I can relate to that.
W: Well, that’s more like how it is to work at Trader Joe’s. The employees are the children ... and I’m the mother.
M: Are you the only parent at this store I think I’d rather be adopted by someone else...

M: I was reading about superfoods today. They are fruits, vegetables and other foods that are supposed to be extra healthy.
W: That’s interesting. Which foods are they I suppose rice is high on the list. We certainly eat a lot of that here in China.
M: No, it isn’t. Nor are noodles. But yogurt, fish and tomatoes are there.
W: Oh well, I suppose we eat plenty of them. Why are these foods so healthy
M: It’s said that they can reduce the risks of high blood pressure, heart disease and certain cancers.
W: Maybe I will start including them in our meals. Are there any foods on the list that we don’t have yet
M: Nuts and greens are something we already eat plenty of. And although our type of rice—the white kind—isn’t on the list, brown rice is.
W: Then I think we will switch to that to keep the family healthy. Superfoods sound like a very tasty way to keep fit.

M: Can you tell me what happened this morning, Mrs Jones
W: Well, 2 hours ago, that was around 10:00 in the morning when I was doing the dishes. Then, soon after that, I was polishing the table. I thought I heard a noise, but I was really concentrating on the polishing, so I didn’t take much notice.
M: What happened next
W: I was cleaning the living room, around 10:15, when I heard someone upstairs. It sounded like they were looking for something in my cupboard. About two minutes later, someone ran down the stairs. I ran to the window. A man was getting into a car. Then he was driving away.
M: What time was this, Mrs Jones
W: 10:20. Then I called the police.

M: I can’t believe this. I have been on the phone with my bank all day and they still haven’t fixed my problem.
W: Is it a credit card problem
M: Yes. My credit card information was stolen. When I got my bill in the mail, I saw there were many unfamiliar purchases on it.
W: That’s terrible. Did they take a lot of money
M: Yes, and I am very upset because the bank is not helping me quickly. I have talked to many different managers already.
W: Doesn’t the bank’s owner need to make the decision to give you your money back
M: No. I just have to prove that these purchases were not made by me.
W: I hope you can fix this problem soon. Something similar happened to my husband’s mother recently. She was tricked into giving away some important information over the phone.
M: I think the person who stole my information got it from the Internet. I bought a collection of movies recently. I won’t be doing that again unless the website is sure to be safe. It’s honestly my fault for being careless.
W: You can never be too careful. Well, your problem is inspiring me to look into protecting my account better. I think I can pay my bank more to help me.

Now we have a program for those who love acting. This program gives young actors the experience of developing complex characters and performing a full-length production while receiving top-level training. Each actor will receive a role and will be given time to shine on the stage at the end of the week. Children aged between 13 and 18 can take part in the program.
The play is written by Lisa Nanni-Messegee. Todd Messegee will be the director. On the first Monday we meet, actors act for some time to find a suitable role in the play. By the end of the day, they begin developing characters and learning about the play. This continues through mid-week, along with focus on specialty skills that may be needed in the production. On these days, they’ll receive some training on acting. By Thursday, the actors are running the show off-book and memorizing their material. By Friday, the whole group is performing on stage, in a recorded performance. A digital copy of the performance will be shared with actors after the program is complete. This is a very exciting challenge for any actor! It’ll begin on July 26th and end on 30th. Practicing time is from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm every day. Only ten will be admitted. If you’re interested, contact us early. Due to safety restrictions, space is extremely limited in each age group. Registering early is recommended. Register by June 5th for $10 off.

Together, we haveshared many great memories here, and he is a big part of our school’s history. He has been a fantastic coach, a teacher, and more importantly, agood friend. He has told us that this decision has been very hard for him. However, his mother has become ill,and it is the right decision for his family. Unfortunately, Mr. Jenkins will not be able to end the year with us, as he is traveling back to his hometown this Friday. This means we won’t have time for a proper goodbyecelebration, but we hope you will all visit him before he leaves. And finally,to show respect for our good friend,we will be naming the gymnasium “Jenkins’Gym” at the end of the month.
