Section A
Directions: After reading the passage below, fill in the blanks to make the passage coherent and grammatically correct. For the blanks with a given word, fill in each blank with the proper form of the given word; for the other blanks, use one word that best fits each blank.
The internet and its cultural impact are most often viewed through the lens of the “tech bro”. Biographies, and memoirs about these big-tech bosses have shaped readers’ understanding of 21 the online world changes the offline one. But these books rarely mention the principal figures who have shaped the experience of being online: social-media influencers.
Influencers—the (usually female) people behind the most popular accounts on Instagram, TikTok and YouTube—have large followings, often in the hundreds of thousands or millions. People like Jackie Aina, Matilda Djerf and Molly-Mae Hague earn a living from a combination of sponsored posts, commissions 22 (make) through associate links and by creating their own brands, from fake tan to eyeshadows.
Though they shape digital culture, too often influencers 23 (dismiss) as fame-hungry celebrities, who post about the details of their lives and mindlessly promote branded products for eye-watering sums. But a new crop of books takes the influencer industry 24 (seriously) by exploring the way social media’s most popular users are reshaping the global economy and changing what the average person views online.
Taylor Lorenz, 25 technology writer for the Washington Post, is a leading voice on social-media trends and internet culture. Her book, “Extremely Online”, argues that influencers hold huge power: “Tech founders may control the source code, 26 it is users who shape the product.” Charting the history of the influencer from the 1990s to today, Ms. Lorenz argues influencers rose by making fame and luxury less “sealed off”. Like reality-TV stars, early influencers created a new, niche sort of celebrity, popular enough 27 (draw) attention but still unrecognizable to most.
Ms. Lorenz makes the case that, despite its bad rap, influencing has “given more people the chance to benefit directly from their labor than at any other time in history”, 28 (entertain) readers with stories about “mommy bloggers” turning the pain of parenthood into six-figure businesses and teens becoming multi-millionaires through short comedy skits.
Some experts estimate as much as 90% of online content could be AI-generated by 2026. 29 the number of believable posts and photos produced by AI soars, influencers will face significantly more competition for internet users’ attention. No influencer, __ __ 30 __ ____skilled they have proved to be at using the internet to gain popularity and profits in the past, is guaranteed to retain any kind of influence in the next technological transformation.
Section B
Directions: Fill in each blank with a proper word chosen from the box. Each word can be used only once. Note that there is one word more than you need.
A.appearances B.imitating C. distinguish D.isolate E. advantageous F. diverse G. Identical H. criterion I. markings J. poisonous K. threatening
Why different species start looking exactly the same
Is it better to stand out from the crowd or be similar to the background For birds, the answer is complicated. While peacocks(孔雀) show off their brightly colored feathers to attract mates and ward off predators, other birds find it 31 to hide themselves by imitating the looks of other birds.
Groups of birds flying together often come from the same species, making it hard to 32 one from another. However, some groups of birds including two or more species take on similar 33 , which is an uncommon phenomenon. “They all share random features, like feathers on head or yellow bellies(腹部), which makes them almost 34 . You can’t really tell them apart without looking at their 35 .” says Scott Robinson, a famous scholar. His new study suggests 36 another bird’s appearance is not a coincidence but rather an evolutionary method to increase their chances of survival. Looking like a bird from a dominant species helps reduce attack from other members and appear more 37 to potential predators.
“In imitation, you often want to look like something because there’s an advantage to being that other thing. You want species to think you’re 38 or low-profitable target.” says Rebecca Kimball, a professor of biology. “In grouping birds, one idea is that this has more to do with a predator’s ability to 39 a target. When there are a group of birds moving around, it may be easier for predators to identify an individual that has a distinct color pattern.”
While it may not seem like it at first, imitating other birds is helping to create more 40 species. Not only do birds imitate more than one species as they grow up, but their appearance varies over time.
III.Reading Comprehension (41 – 55
Section A
Directions: For each blank in the following passage there are four words or phrases marked A, B, C and D. Fill in each blank with the word or phrase that best fits the context.
Today’s youth will drive tomorrow’s growth. Young people have always confused their elders. Today’s youngsters are no different. They have thin wallets but 41 tastes. They long for authenticity while being constantly immersed in an artificial digital world. They 42 convenience and abundance. As they start spending in earnest, brands are trying to understand what these walking paradoxes (悖论) 43 and how they shop. The answers will define the next era of consumerism.
A good place to start analyzing the psyche of young consumer is to consider the 44 that has shaped them. At one end of the scale, today’s 30-somethings came of age in the midst of the global financial crisis of 2007-2009. Their younger peers were slightly 45 , beginning their careers in years when tightening labour markets had pushed up wages until the covid-19 pandemic turned many of their lives upside down.
These two big 46 have contributed to pessimism among the young people who experienced them. A study found a widespread 47 among Gen Zs that they would be able to afford to retire. Less than half believed they would ever own a home.
In many ways youngsters’ shopping habits, like their lives, are defined by the “ 48 economy”. The popularity of social media means there are many new ways of attracting consumers’ eyeballs. Most young shoppers never knew a world without smartphones. More than two-thirds of 18- to 34-year-old Americans spend four hours or more on their devices each day.
These “always-on purchasers” often avoid a weekly shop so that they can have quicker 49 of everything from fashion to furniture. They like subscriptions, often favoring shared access to products over outright ownership, which has 50 online-rental sites and streaming services.
The internet has also changed how the young discover brands. Print, billboard or TV advertising has 51 social media. Instagram and TikTok are where the young look for inspiration, particularly for goods where 52 matter, such as beauty, fashion, and sportswear. 53 physical shops are not entirely out of favor. They can be successful as long as the experience feels personal and, ideally, integrates virtual and physical worlds.
How the young shop is clearly shifting. What they buy, too, is changing. What older generations consider optional, such as wellness and luxury, has become 54 for the young.
More broadly, young consumers claim to be more 55 than previous generations. Some of these values are centered around identity (race, gender and so on). Others stem from things the young care about, such as climate change.

Section B
Directions: Read the following three passages. Each passage is followed by several questions or unfinished statements. For each of them there are four choices marked A, B, C and D. Choose the one that fits best according to the information given in the passage you have just read.
(A)
I write this on a spring morning, in the van I have called home for two years now.
From one small window, I have a view of joggers pounding the sunny path by the Oxford Canal, and the other looks onto the busy railway line along which trains travel from Southampton Docks to Birmingham.
The woods where I’ve parked my van have grown up between them. This ancient van, a vehicle designed for freedom and the open road, has proved a stable solution for surviving the current housing crisis.
I became a travel writer after my studies ended, committing to brief “residencies” with museums and art centres—where temporary accommodation is often provided in exchange for producing new work about a community. Over the years that followed, living and working on location in the polar regions or Scandinavia or the Alps, not settling down for very long, meant wherever I landed was always “home”.
During the pandemic it was necessary to adopt a more permanent engagement with locality. Oxford had often drawn me back. It’s a crossroads of reality and the imagination, the perfect city for a writer.
It takes a surprising amount of work to keep a tiny home in order: buying a used van online; ensuring the smooth running of a gas cooker and car batteries; fetching water and emptying the mobile toilet. I began to enjoy taking care of my immediate surroundings. Over the summer, I worked to turn waste-ground into a wild garden, replacing weeds with wild plants.
I made friends with the self-sufficient boaters living nearby, always ready to share knowledge on the low-carbon simplicity of life without electricity. I’ve learnt that comfort can be found away from the bright infrastructure of urban life: in watching the birds that nest in the tree and the foxes playing in the woods at dawn, in making a cup of coffee on a spring morning.
My step away from conventional housing has been a necessary act of personal economy, but the benefits include taking nothing for granted, and unexpected delight.
56.Why did the writer make the van his home
A.Because the feature of the van and that of his occupation are matching.
B.Because the van is equivalent to a crossroads of reality and the imagination.
C.Because the views of joggers and trains outside the van can relieve his pressure.
D.Because living and working on location in the polar regions are appealing to him.
57.What does “immediate surroundings” in Paragraph 6 refer to
A.a used van B.a gas cooker C.a wild garden D.a mobile toilet
58.Which of the following is the benefit of unconventional housing
A.Joining joggers to do exercise. B.Keeping a tiny home in order easily.
C.Improving the economy of Oxford. D.Embracing delightful surprises.
59.What’s the writer’s attitude towards living in the van
A.Cautious. B.Ironical. C.Favorable. D.Neutral.

Frozen in time, a 125-million-year-old mammal attacking a dinosaur. A 39-million-year-old whale, the heaviest animal that ever lived. The oldest known jellyfish, from 505 million years ago. Paleontology (古生物学) produces newsworthy discoveries.
Fossils, moreover, provide direct evidence for the long history of life, allowing paleontologists to test hypotheses (假设) about evolution with data only they provide. They allow investigation of present and past life on Earth. Flows of biological diversity, appearances of new life forms and the extinctions of long existing ones, would go undiscovered without these efforts. But the headlines over exciting new fossils greatly underestimate the true importance of paleontology. Its real significance lies in how such discoveries brighten the grand history of life on Earth. From its beginnings, more than three billion years ago, to the present day, fossils record how life adapted or disappeared in the face of major environmental challenges.
Paleontologists provide us with a unique vantage on modern climate change. They play an essential role in interpreting ancient environments, in reconstructing ancient oceans, continents and climates. Fossils provide key limitation on the climate models that are essential for predicting future climate change. And the fossil record gives important insights into how life will respond to predicted future climate conditions, because these have occurred before in Earth’s history.
In addition, paleontology has provided a fundamental contribution to human thought: the reality of species extinction and thus of a world that has dramatically changed over time. In documenting the history of life, paleontologists recognized that many extinction episodes could occur suddenly, such as the event 66 million years ago that ended the dinosaurs. The search for the causes of past mass extinctions started pioneering studies from across the scientific spectrum (科学界), focusing on potential future threats to humanity.
Not only do paleontologists know what happens to life when things go bad, they also know how long it takes for ecosystems and biodiversity to recover from these disasters, which can take far longer than modern humans have existed.
Paleontologists thus provide a unique perspective on the nature and future long-term ecological impact of the current human-produced biodiversity crisis, the so-called Sixth Extinction, and therefore the importance of protecting modern biodiversity. The very concept of a Sixth Extinction would not exist without paleontologists documenting the first five.
Paleontologists know that understanding life’s past is critical to anticipating and adapting to life’s and humanity’s future. Paleontology is important because it brings its unique and critical perspective to current challenges in climate change, biodiversity loss and the environment. Paleontologists can predict the future because they know the past.

B.Past lessons can help to predict the future threats.

D.Fossil studies focus on the causes of mass extinctions.
66.What’s the best title for the passage

How to Thrive in a video age
The pandemic embedded video into the workplace. Workers who had never previously been on camera suddenly spent every hour of the day getting used to the sight of themselves and their colleagues on screen. 67
There is no going back. Blogs have become vlogs. Meetings are now recorded as a matter so that people can fail to watch them back later. Some firms routinely ask applicants to record answers to certain questions on video, so that people can’t see how well prospective recruits communicate.
Since video has become more central to work, it pays to be good at it. 68 . Workers can improve under their own steam, but companies can help, too.
To see what the right set-up looks like, just observe the range of images on your next, video-conferencing call. It will probably be a complete mishmash (大杂烩). Some people will be bathed in the warm glow of a ring light; others will be emerging from the shadows like the Emperor Palpatine. Obviously, there is a limit to how level the playing-field-between home offices can be, when living environments between employees differ so greatly. 69 : people who regularly make presentations or see clients have greater claim on fancier equipment.
Advice on how to present well on video is not that different to advice on presenting in general. But there are some specific pitfalls with video. One is where to look. Staring into the camera is unnatural. Some advice pinning a photo of someone you respect right by the lens. But looking at the camera is harder if you are referring to notes no the screen at the same time. Teleprompter (提词器) software maybe the right answer.
Perhaps the least recognised skill in the video age is listening well. 70 — being able to turn your camera off when your time is being royally wasted may be the pandemic’s greatest gift to productivity. Yet one of the downsides is how distracting it can be: as well as checking yourself out and following the online chat, you can comment on someone’s new wallpaper while watching their neighbour shovel noodles into their mouth. It takes real effort to stay focused in such circumstances.
A.Being a star in the video age means having the right set-up, speaking well and listening well B.whether providing decent home-working equipment or giving feedback on how people appear on screen, employers can help everyone improve their video game C.Whether you are on camera or in the room, it is always easier to listen when there is something worth hearing D.Executives realized that they could send video messages to their workforces rather than having to assemble in town halls E.However, not everyone needs to look like an A-lister F.After all, one great benefit of the virtual meeting is that you can get actual work done in it
IV. Summary Writing (10分)

Building up your muscles is an easy part—the hard part is burning those layers of fat that cover your muscles. Here are some tips.
In order to work out harder, make a favorite fitness playlist with music that gets you excited, as it can help you go up to 20% longer and burn more calories, according to a study of Brunel University London. The study’s researcher says that music tends to prevent tiredness, and produces feelings of excitement.
Not only does eating good breakfast speed up your metabolism(新陈代谢), but it also nourishes (为…… After eating breakfast, your best way of keeping fat burning going is to “graze”. Set up an eating schedule where you eat five to eight small meals every few hours throughout the day. It provides your body with a constant flow of nourishment to feed your muscles.
Men’s Health suggests choosing hard exercise that involves total body movements in order to help raise your heart rate and leave you out of breath. By including total body movements into your exercise, you’re going to end up burning a lot more calories while challenging yourself at the same time. As the saying goes: No pain, no gain. So, get moving.
Sounds easy enough, right It’s as simple as drinking a cup of green tea every day. Adding in green tea will push fat burning to another level. And studies have shown that it can increase fat burning and help you lose weight.
While doing your weight training, try something including short, big bursts of cardio(心脏强化锻炼) throughout your exercise. For example, if you’re doing an hour-long exercise, place cardio into it every 15 minutes to help speed up your metabolism.

Section A
Directions: After reading the passage below, fill in the blanks to make the passage coherent and grammatically correct.
21.how 22.made 23.are dismissed 24.more seriously 25.a 26.but 27.to draw 28.entertaining 29.As 30.no matter how
故填how。
故填made。
故填are dismissed。
故填more seriously。
故填a。
根据前文“Tech founders may control the source code”以及后文“it is users who shape the product.” 故填but。
此处是固定搭配:enough to do sth. 故填to draw。
故填As。
故填no matter how。

“find it+adj.+to do sth.” 根据“While peacocks(孔雀) show off their brightly colored feathers to attract mates and ward off predators(捕食者)”,While引导让步状语从句,所以这里与上文形成转折,表示的是虽然孔雀展示自己色彩鲜艳的羽毛,但其他鸟类发现模仿别的鸟类外表是有利的。

Today’s youth will drive tomorrow’s growth. Young people have always confused their elders. Today’s youngsters are no different. They have thin wallets but 41 tastes.

63.The first two paragraphs are written to _______.
A.describe an event B.raise a question
C.present an opinion D.make a comparison
64.What does the underlined word “vantage” in Paragraph 3 mean
A.A positive effect. B.A valuable suggestion.
C.A quick decision. D.A comprehensive view.
65.Which of the following would the author agree with
A.Ecological recovery takes shorter than imagined.
B.Past lessons can help to predict the future threats.
C.Paleontologists can handle the biodiversity crisis.
D.Fossil studies focus on the causes of mass extinctions.
66.What’s the best title for the passage
A.Paleontology: A Pioneering Study
B.Paleontology: A History Recorder
C.Paleontology Tells More About Nature Than Humans
D.Paleontology Is Far More Than New Fossil Discoveries
第一段“Frozen in time, a 125-million-year-old mammal attacking a dinosaur. A 39-million-year-old whale, the heaviest animal that ever lived. The oldest known jellyfish, from 505 million years ago. Paleontology (古生物学) produces newsworthy discoveries. (时间凝固,一只1.25亿年前的哺乳动物正在攻击一只恐龙。一头3900万年前的鲸鱼,是有史以来最重的动物。已知最古老的水母,来自5.05亿年前。古生物学产生了有新闻价值的发现)”讲述了古生物学产生了有新闻价值的古老化石发现,再结合第二段“Fossils (化石), moreover, provide direct evidence for the long history of life, allowing paleontologists to test hypotheses (假设) about evolution with data only they provide. (此外,化石为漫长的生命史提供了直接证据,使古生物学家能够用他们提供的数据来检验进化论的假设)”和“But the headlines over exciting new fossils greatly underestimate the true importance of paleontology. Its real significance lies in how such discoveries brighten the grand history of life on Earth. (但是,关于令人兴奋的新化石的头条新闻大大低估了古生物学的真正重要性。它的真正意义在于这些发现如何照亮地球上生命的伟大历史)”可知,作者在前两段提出了一个观点——古生物学的意义不仅是化石发现,它的真正意义在于这些发现如何照亮地球上生命的伟大历史。故选C项。
64.词句猜测题。由第三段“Paleontologists provide us with a unique vantage on modern climate change.
由第四段中“The search for the causes of past mass extinctions started pioneering studies from across the scientific spectrum (科学界), focusing on potential future threats to humanity. (寻找过去大规模灭绝的原因开始了跨科学领域的开创性研究,重点关注未来对人类的潜在威胁)”和最后一段中“Paleontologists know that understanding life’s past is critical to anticipating and adapting to life’s and humanity’s future. (古生物学家知道,了解生命的过去对于预测和适应生命和人类的未来至关重要)”可知,通过化石上表征的过去,古生物学家能得出过去的经验,预测危险,为未来如何避免犯过去同样的错误提供明灯。由此推知,作者同意“过去的经验教训有助于预测未来的威胁”。故选B项。
66.主旨大意题。由第二段中“But the headlines over exciting new fossils greatly underestimate the true importance of paleontology. Its real significance lies in how such discoveries brighten the grand history of life on Earth.

A.Being a star in the video age means having the right set-up, speaking well and listening well B.whether providing decent home-working equipment or giving feedback on how people appear on screen, employers can help everyone improve their video game C.Whether you are on camera or in the room, it is always easier to listen when there is something worth hearing D.Executives realized that they could send video messages to their workforces rather thanhaving to assemble in town halls E.However, not everyone needs to look like an A-lister F.After all, one great benefit of the virtual meeting is that you can get actual work done in it
【答案】67.D 68.A 69.E 70.F
67.根据上文“The pandemic embedded video into the workplace. Workers who had never previously been on camera suddenly spent every hour of the day getting used to the sight of themselves and their colleagues on screen.(疫情将视频嵌入工作场所。以前从未上过镜头的员工突然把一天中的每一个小时都花在了习惯自己和同事在屏幕上的样子上)”可知,上文提到了疫情期间人们开始利用视频来工作,故本句承接上文说明雇主通过视频对员工进行管理。故D选项“高管们意识到,他们可以向员工发送视频信息,而不必在市政厅集会”符合语境,故选D。
68.根据上文“Since video has become more central to work, it pays to be good at it.(由于视频在工作中越来越重要,擅长视频是值得的)”以及后文“Workers can improve under their own steam, but companies can help, too.(员工可以靠自己的力量进步,但公司也可以提供帮助)”可知,上文提到了擅长视频值得,后文提到了个人和公司的努力,故本句说明值得的原因。
69.根据上文“Obviously, there is a limit to how level the playing-field-between home offices can be, when living environments between employees differ so greatly.(显然,当员工之间的生活环境差异如此之大时,家庭办公室之间的公平竞争环境是有限的)”以及后文“people who regularly make presentations or see clients have greater claim on fancier equipment.(经常做报告或会见客户的人更有资格购买更高档的设备)”可知,本句与上文构成转折,指出普通人是否需要像明星那样购买高档设备,故E选项“然而,并不是每个人都需要看起来像一线明星”符合语境,故选E。
70.根据上文“Perhaps the least recognised skill in the video age is listening well.(也许在视频时代,最不被认可的技能是善于倾听)”以及后文“being able to turn your camera off when your time is being royally wasted may be the pandemic’s greatest gift to productivity(当你的时间被严重浪费时,能够关掉相机可能是疫情给生产力带来的最大礼物)”可知,上文提到了不被认可的技能是善于倾听,后文提到了关掉相机可以提高生产力,可推测本句是在说明完成工作的要求。
IV. Summary Writing (10分)
Directions: Read the following passage. Summarize the main idea and the main point(s) of the passage in no more than 60 words. Use your own words as far as possible.

Dear Sir/Madam,
I am very happy to know that the school plans to add a column on the campus website to get close to students’ life and meet their needs. As for me, I choose the “Psychological Chat room” section. The reasons are as follows.
On the one hand, with the increasing academic pressure, many students are unable to adapt to the life of senior three and do not know how to deal with the psychological burden caused by study. There are even some students in low mood or lacking enthusiasm and depression, so it is necessary to actively and effectively relieve psychological pressure to cultivate good values. And also physical and mental health is conducive to the growth of students. On the other hand, as far as I am concerned, in addition to what mentioned above, many students also have a lot of confusion about how to deal with interpersonal relations. Opening this program can not only give students guidance in making friends, but also broaden our vision.
I would appreciate it if you could consider my suggestion.
Yours,
Li Hua

Most high schools in the United States publish a yearbook. The yearbook comes out once year, usually in the spring. It is a record of the school year-a“book of memories”for the students.
Inside a yearbook is each student’s photo. The seniors are graduating soon, and their photos appear first. Next are the juniors. They are one year behind the seniors.Next come the sophomores, or the second-year students. The last photos are the first-year students, the freshmen. The yearbook is not only about students. The teachers have photos, too.
The yearbook also has photos and descriptions of sports teams, academic subjects, and after-school activities, such as the chess club and Spanish club. There’s even a yearbook club.Students in this club write, design, and take photos all year for the yearbook. At the end of the year the book is printed
In the yearbook, some students receive special titles. The seniors vote and choose the“class clown”(a funny student). the “most likely to succeed”(a student everyone thinks will be successful), and the“best dressed”(a student with a good fashion sense). There are also other awards.
Students typically sign each other’s yearbooks. This is especially important for the seniors, because they are graduating. Students write notes to each other, such as,“We had a lot of fun,”or I’ll never forget you.”They also write about all the fun and funny experiences they shared in school together
(Now listen again, please.)

Professional e-sport events currently attract audiences of millions. A recent major e-game final held in the Republic of Korea. filled a stadium of 40000 people-with many more watching online around the world. This explains why recently there’s heated discussion about e-sports being include in the Olympics. People normally think of c-game as a combination of very competitive skills and game players usually have to make very quick decisions throughout.However. e-gaming is facing a cultural battle to win support from those who follow other physical sports. And the essential point is how sport is defined. If people define sport as something that takes a lot of physical efforts, then it's hard to argue that video games should be a sport, but at the same time, many forms of sport currently in the Olympics don’t require much physical input.
Of course. having new sports admitted into the Olympics is a long tough process and, since the International Olympic Committee limited the number of sports allowed in the Olympic Games, it is even more difficult.
Anyway, today more and more people have changed attitudes toward video games, agreeing it’s a form of entertainment or even sport. And it is the people who play the games not the e-game itself that should be to blame for e-game addiction.
(Now listen again, please.)
