Research from a UK charity has found that girls are likely to become less interested in sports as they move into their teenage years.
Women in Sport conducted a poll (调查) of more than 4,000 teenagers and found that 43 percent of girls felt they had been sporty as primary school students, but no longer saw themselves this way.
“Worryingly, girls lose their love of sport and exercise during teenage years, and this presents a significant psychological barrier throughout life,” the report said.
The majority of those who no longer considered themselves sporty said they had become less interested in sports because they didn’t like other people watching them.
The girls also spoke about how anxiety over their appearance led them to be less likely to participate in sports. The boys examined in this study didn’t show any change in their willingness to take part in sports. This points to a relationship between the mental well-being of girls and their willingness to engage in sports.
“It’s an absolute travesty (嘲讽) that teenage girls are being pushed out of sport at such a scale,” said Stephanie Hilborne, the chief executive of Women in Sport. She added that losing sports at this formative stage of their lives was equal to “a loss of joy as well as good lifelong health”.
“It is well documented that taking part in physical activity can have a profound and positive effect on mental well-being as well as provide many important life skills such as resilience (适应力), teamwork and communication,” she added.
The charity is calling on schools and sports clubs to increase the focus on keeping girls interested in sports, which can help them gain confidence when facing pressure from social media and their peers. Sports are crucial to keeping people active and social through puberty (青春期), which can already hit a young person’s self-confidence.
24.What do we know from the survey conducted by the UK charity
A. Girls who are interested in sports don’t experience psychological barrier.
B. It is most commonly seen among teenagers that they lose passion in sports.
C. A large number of girls gradually become less interested in sports.
D. About half of the girls lose love in sports when in primary school.
25.What is the main reason for teenage girls’ loss of interest in sports
A. They don’t like to be the focus of others.
B. They worry about their looking when doing sports.
C. They are afraid of being compared with the boys.
D. They are mentally unwilling to do sports.
26.What benefit can sports bring for the girls according to the article
A. Equipping themselves with lots of meaningful life qualities.
B. Learning to understand their feelings when facing pressure.
C. Developing better relations with their friends.
D. Keeping a good shape of the body.
Everyone deserves to love where he or she live. That’s why Tash Frootko, a property developer in Gloucester, England, began the Rainbow Street project in her quiet town four years ago.
Frootko brought a new life to her properties by brightening the outside of each home, transforming her neighborhood into a colorful place. Now, she is partnering with local street artists to take her project a step further and turn Gloucester’s city center into a Rainbow Square.
“We didn’t get recognition from local people at first. But later, an unexpected outcome happened, ”said Frootko.
“It has brought the community together really well, “Michelle, a local citizen said. “If it wasn’t for Frootko, then none of us would have come out and spoken to each other. ”
“I actively seek out areas that can’t receive enough attention and turn them into huge attractive colors for everyone to enjoy and add a much-needed cultural boost for the city, ” Frootko said.
The new Rainbow Square includes an even more special design. Frootko convinced two street artists to get on board and contribute large murals to two buildings on the Square. Power, a street artist and printmaker, has worked on community art projects across the UK. She said, “This was truly a labour of love. With a uniquely designed typeface, shadows and gold leaf, I hope that this mural becomes a much-loved landmark of the city and makes the city attractive.”
The final result of the project was a huge hit, turning a once sleepy collection of streets into a place that celebrates joy and culture. Every local citizen and visitor who walks by is sure to have their day brightened by the art of the Rainbow Square. And all of this is related to Frootko’s strong willpower.
27.Why did Frootko set up the Rainbow Street project
A. To find talented street artists. B. To brighten everyone’s day.
C. To beautify where she lived. D. To make a profit for her company.
28.What is the local people’s attitude to Frootko’s Rainbow Square initially
A. Supportive. B. Suspicious. C. Cautious. D. Tolerant.
29.What does Power think of the mural on the Rainbow Square
A. It helps improve her skills. B. It is fit to promote culture.

30.Which word can best describe Frootko
A. Determined. B. Courageous. C. Humorous. D. Generous.
When asked what his father did for a living, Mike explained to his kindergarten teacher that “he steals things, but it’s OK, because he gets paid to do it.”
He isn’t wrong. His father is a hacker(黑客), who is proud of his job, just like doctors are proud of the work they do. Thanks to security researchers’ hacking practices, leaks in a new version of the most common Wi-Fi code standard(WPA3)were found before criminals could use them to break into home and business networks. In another case, criminals found an unknown weakness in Google’s Android operating systems before security researchers did, giving the bad guys full control of more than a dozen phone models.
However, finding Mike’s father’s personalized plates for his car with the word ‘HACKING’, an employee of the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles quickly took them away, claiming that a license plate displaying “HACKING” publicized criminal activity. While this reaction really isn’t the fault of the well-intentioned employee, it’s a sign of how a deeply rooted misrepresentation of his profession has created a fixed wrong image. It seems that the way that hackers are described in Hollywood has contributed to the word ‘hacker’ paralleling ‘criminal’, where hackers are often referred to as figures in dark rooms engaged in illegal activity while tapping at keyboards.
But actually, hacking is just an activity. What separates any activity from a crime is, very often, permission. People are free to drive, but they do not have permission to drive 150 miles per hour, which is a criminal offense. Since a driver is just a driver, why must a hacker be a criminal Someone who engages in the illegal use of hacking should not be called a ‘bad hacker’ but a ‘cybercriminal’. Contrary to popular belief, most hackers like Mike’s father undoubtedly play an important role in keeping companies and people safe.
31.What did Mike’s son think of Mike’s job
A. Admirable. B. Amazing. C. Acceptable. D. Annoying.
32.What does the second paragraph mainly talk about concerning the hackers’ job
A. Its weakness. B. Its importance. C. Its variety D. Its security.
33.Why does the writer mention ‘Hollywood’ in paragraph 3
A. To entertain the renders. B. To question the employee’s claim.
C. To clarify the concept of hacking. D. To trace the wrong image of hackers.
34.What message does the author really want to convey in the text
A. Hacking mostly counts. B. Hacking is actually a crime.
C. Hacking is popular with people. D. Hacking needs licenses.

My second year in college had started. I hadn’t decided whether to fly home for the new year yet. Although I had missed the holiday the year before, and I didn’t want to miss it two years in a row, I didn’t have the money for the ticket, plus I wasn’t sure I could get enough time off from my job. All that wondering changed when my mom called. She got right to the point: “Your grandmother isn’t doing well. I decided I should fly out there for the new year.” Mom was an only child, so that made sense to me. But I was not ready for what I heard next. “We decided you would want to come along so I covered your ticket.”
We arrived as scheduled. Mom was anxious to see her parents, especially her mother, who was really sick. After saying hello to them, we settled in the living room. Grandpa helped Grandma lie down again and told us we would have a big lunch at noon.
He went into the kitchen. Mom walked up and down in the living room. Finally, I asked her what the matter was. “He can’t cook,” she said, wondering. “How’s he supposed to fix a holiday meal for us ” I tried to reason with her.
“Can’t you smell dinner It smells good to me. Grandma is upstairs resting. Grandpa is the only one who could be cooking.” But we couldn’t see through the kitchen door. She had an idea. “Let’s go out to the front door and see from outside the window what’s going on inside. Then we will know who is really cooking.” Grandpa was very hard of hearing, so he didn’t hear us leave. It was a crazy plan, but I followed her around the house to the kitchen windows.

He was even cooking a big Turkey in the oven. Mom was surprised to see all these. Then Grandpa brought the water, then the coffee, rolls and individual lettuce salads out to the dinning room. Speaking directly to my mom, he said, “I am going to get your mother up and bring her down to eat with us. You two go sit down at the dining room table.” So we did.
Looking at the nice food on the table, Mom asked, “When did you learn to cook ” Grandpa didn’t answer my mother’s question right away. Instead, he smiled and handed out food to each of us. I could tell he was very happy that we were here. Then he said that since Grandma was unable to cook due to health reasons, he began to learn to cook little by little. It made my mother and I feel at ease and less worried about their daily lives. I can’t help but have a kind of admiration for grandpa. Love and responsibility can change people, even in the old age.
