In the Middle Age, wealthy families of this hill town went on a tower-building competition. At one point there were more than 70 towers, some of which were nearly 200 feet in height. Initially built as defenses in wars with neighboring villages, the towers became symbols of wealth and fame. Today, the village draws both history and wine lovers. Visitors can enjoy the famous white wine, Vernaccia di San Gimignano, at the tasting centers which overlook the surrounding grape hills.
Chipping Campden, England
Arguably the loveliest village in England, Chipping Campden isn’t just a photographer’s dream. Only two scholarships are awarded each year to top-ranked women in the junior class who are representatives of the qualities stressed by Dean Melville.
Scholarship recipients receive a minimum of $1,000 depending on financial need. Funds can only be applied to undergraduate study.
Clare Boothe Luce scholar awards
The Clare Boothe Luce program of the Henry Luce Foundation supports a limited number of Undergraduate Scholarships for women students in the fields of the physical and life sciences, mathematics, engineering, and computer science.
Provost’s scholars award
The Provost’s scholars awards celebrate the achievements of students who have demonstrated the spirit of a true scholar at a research university. Up to 20 awards are given annually, each carrying $1000 of funding for research creative activity expenses such as travel to conferences and archives (档案馆) or for research-related equipment and supplies. Awards are distributed through the Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program (UROP). Winners are selected in the Spring Semester, and recognized at the Provost’s academic awards ceremony during Parents’ Weekend in October.

Biscayne is not very far from the lights and excitement of downtown Miami. But it has a very different atmosphere from the big city. Established as a national monument in 1968, Biscayne National Park includes the northern part of the world-famous Florida Keys which are low-lying islands or reefs.

You will find the threatened huge, gentle West Indian manatee, the less gentle American crocodile, several kinds of sea turtles and over 500 species of fish. Human history
Human history at Biscayne begins more than 10, 000 years ago. Scientists say evidence of the area’s earliest people is mostly underwater now and learn about these people by examining the hills of shells they left behind. As the population grew, it divided into separate cultures. The groups began making pottery and created trade networks. These Native Americans are called the Tequesta. The Tequesta depended on the rich food source of the sea to survive. They were not centered on farming and had more time than other natives for art and religion. The reefs and rough waters made it difficult for early explorers resulting in more than 50 shipwrecks. Scuba divers today can explore six of them.
Exploring the park
Many visitors to Biscayne National Park choose to explore underwater. Guides lead snorkeling and scuba diving trips. At Boca Chita Key, visitors can explore a lighthouse, a symbol of Biscayne National Park built in the 1930s. But visitors to Biscayne National Park probably are not there to see skyscrapers and city lights. The beauty in Biscayne is quiet waters, rustling mangroves.

Bubblegum Alley is covered from top to bottom with chewed gum, a tradition that was started mysteriously by the locals in the 1950s. As a nod to the frosty conditions, a local businessman built the 27-foot-tall penguin out of 10 000 pounds of concrete. The creator left for warmer weather, but the statue- seven times the height of a real emperor penguin-still stands, welcoming visitors to its cold home.

This Tin Family appear along the Enchanted Highway, a 32-mile stretch of road displaying seven huge metal sculptures. A group of farmers constructed the family using materials such as oil tanks and wire. Tin Son is 23 feet tall, Tin Ma is 44 ft. and Tin Pa stands 45 feet tall.
