These next three years in senior high school may see many relationships coming to an end, a lot of drama between people, and especially a lot of stress (压力). During these next years, you’ll experience a lot, and hopefully, this advice could be of use to you. First of all, high school is not how the movies show it to be. There are no life-changing things that make you popular, and there are no big parties where teens enjoy themselves together and new friends are made. The reality is that you’ll stay up till three in the morning doing homework, the food in the school isn’t the best, and you will cry about everything. Just know walking through this next part of your life won’t be a simple walk in the park. You will go through difficulties, but at the end of the day, you’ll decide whether they’re going to influence you or not. While going through a difficult or unpleasant time, know that whatever happens these experiences don’t define (界定) you. These next moments will be happy, mad, sad, etc. There will be amazing good days, and awful bad ones. Be yourself because many comments will be made about you, your friends, your attitude (态度), and everything in your life. Aside from those people that cause drama, make bad comments about you, and hurt you, there are people who love you and want the best for you. Learning this will take time and you’ll be hurt, but you will be okay. So, in a word, a high school is a work in progress. High school only comes along once, so make the most of it because very quickly you’ll be shaking your principal’s (校长的) hand while they hand you your high school diploma (毕业证书). 词汇积累 1. come to an end 结束 2.stay up 熬夜 3. go through 经历 4.awful adj. 可怕的 5.comment n. 评论 6.make the most of 充分利用

How to Look Great for Your First Day of High School https://uww, (高考题源报刊) You’ve finished middle school, and you’re making the leap to high school. High school can be frightening for incoming freshmen: you’re meeting new people getting to know new teachers, and learning how to navigate the fresh style of high school courses that move from room to room. While it might be overwhelming, you can start your high school carver by showing up looking your best and brightest. Get a good night’s sleep. Sleep is one of the best beauty treatments in the world. The night before your first day, avoid watching TV or being on a phone or computer for at least an hour before you go to bed and make sure you go to bed in comfortable clothing. This will help you get the best night of sleep you can possibly get, which will help minimize or avoid dark circles, heavy eyebags, or grey skin. Take a shower the night or morning before. Taking a shower will make sure you are looking and smelling your best. After you’ve showered, apply cream on your face to keep yourself looking and feeling fresh. Smile at yourself and others. The last step to looking great is giving yourself a smile and sharing that smile with your peers. A smile is the surest way to appear smart, kind, and confident and can not only draw others to you but can also improve your mood and mental state in a matter of minutes. (疑问词+不定式) ________________________________________________ 2. (while…) ______________________________________________ 3. (before…) _____________________________________________

276 6 min ★★★★☆
(2023春·广东江门·高一统考期末)Tyler was a troublesome student, who sat in the back row of the classroom. Every time I called him to answer questions, he’d reply with a flip (轻率的) answer. If he got it wrong, he would get very angry.
Usually kids could sit quietly in class. However Tyler was just loud. One day, Tyler was talking while I was teaching. I said to him, “Tyler, why not join in our discussion instead of having one of your own ” He got up from his chair, pushed it over, and shouted something I can’t remember. I sent him to the office and he received a week’s out-of-school punishment.
The week was a wonderful time for me without the noisy Tyler, but when it came to an end, I began to feel worried. So I came up with a plan. On the day of his return, I told him I wanted to start over with him. If he felt like he was going to lose control in class, he could step outside the door for a moment.
From then on, Tyler was a changed student in my classroom. In fact he was a smart child and he even stopped a fight between two students one day. And he never used the privilege (特权) to leave the class for a moment. I believe that just letting him decide for himself made all the difference.
When the school year was over, he wrote me a thank-you note about how good the year had been for him. I still have it today and find it very moving to reread when I get stressed about teaching.
1.When Tyler was talking in class, what did the teacher advise him to do
A.Join in their discussion. B.Have his own discussion.
C.Get up from his chair. D.Go out of school
2.Tyler did all the following things EXCEPT .
A.sitting in the back row. B.leaving the class for a moment.
C.stopping a fight between two students. D.not listening to teachers in class.

A.Stressed. B.Worried. C.Satisfied. D.Moved
4.What is the passage mainly about
A.How Tyler got the punishment.
B.How Tyler changed to be a good student.
C.How the teacher dealt with Tyler’s re tum.
D.How the teacher felt about Tyler’s thank-you note.
【答案】1.A 2.B 3.D 4.B

根据第二段第三四句“One day, Tyler was talking while I was teaching. I said to him, “Tyler, why not join in our discussion instead of having one of your own ” (有一天,泰勒在我上课的时候说话。 故选A。
根据第三段末句“If he felt like he was going to lose control in class, he could step outside the door for a moment. 以及第四段第三句“And he never used the privilege (特权) to leave the class for a moment.

(2023·新高考II卷B篇)Turning soil, pulling weeds, and harvesting cabbage sound like tough work for middle and high school kids. And at first it is, says Abby Jaramillo, who with another teacher started Urban Sprouts, a school garden program at four low-income schools. The program aims to help students develop science skills, environmental awareness, and healthy lifestyles.
Jaramillo’s students live in neighborhoods where fresh food and green space are not easy to find and fast food restaurants outnumber grocery stores. “The kids literally come to school with bags of snacks and large bottles of soft drinks,” she says. “They come to us thinking vegetables are awful, dirt is awful, insects are awful.” Though some are initially scared of the insects and turned off by the dirt, most are eager to try something new.
Urban Sprouts’ classes, at two middle schools and two high schools, include hands-on experiments such as soil testing, flower-and-seed dissection, tastings of fresh or dried produce, and work in the garden. Several times a year, students cook the vegetables they grow, and they occasionally make salads for their entire schools.
Program evaluations show that kids eat more vegetables as a result of the classes. “We have students who say they went home and talked to their parents and now they’re eating differently,” Jaramillo says.
She adds that the program’s benefits go beyond nutrition. Some students get so interested in gardening that they bring home seeds to start their own vegetable gardens. Besides, working in the garden seems to have a calming effect on Jaramillo’s special education students, many of whom have emotional control issues. “They get outside,” she says, “and they feel successful.”
24. What do we know about Abby Jaramillo
A. She used to be a health worker. B. She grew up in a low-income family.
C. She owns a fast food restaurant. D. She is an initiator of Urban Sprouts.
25. What was a problem facing Jaramillo at the start of the program
A. The kids’ parents distrusted her. B. Students had little time for her classes.
C. Some kids disliked garden work. D. There was no space for school gardens.
26. Which of the following best describes the impact of the program
A. Far-reaching. B. Predictable.
C. Short-lived. D. Unidentifiable.
27. What can be a suitable title for the text
A. Rescuing School Gardens B. Experiencing Country Life
C. Growing Vegetable Lovers D. Changing Local Landscape
D 25. C 26. A 27. C

根据最后一段“She adds that the program’s benefits go beyond nutrition. Some students get so interested in gardening that they bring home seeds to start their own vegetable gardens. Besides, working in the garden seems to have a calming effect on Jaramillo’s special education students, many of whom have emotional control issues. “They get outside,” she says, “and they feel successful.”(她补充说,该计划的好处不仅仅是营养。 故选A。
根据第一段的“And at first it is, says Abby Jaramillo, who with another teacher started Urban Sprouts, a school garden program at four low-income schools. F. Whatever it is, no matter how small it might seem, write it down.
G. Whatever the mistake, remember it isn’t a fixed aspect of your personality.
16【答案】D
根据空前内容“Taking responsibility for mistakes is a positive step, but don’t beat yourself up about them. 结合空后“You can use the following writing exercise to help you do this.(你可以使用下面的写作练习来帮助你做到这一点。)” D“It’s just as important to show yourself some forgiveness.(宽恕自己也同样重要。)”
根据空前内容“In a journal or on a piece of paper, put the heading “Personal strengths. 以及空后内容“Are you caring Creative Generous A good listener Fun to be around They don’t have to be world-changing, just aspects of your personality that you’re proud of.(你有爱心吗? B“Now list all the characteristics you like about yourself.(现在列出所有你喜欢的自己身上的特点。)”
根据上文内容“At the top of a second page, put the heading “Acts of kindness.” On this one, list all the positive things you’ve done for others. It might be the time when you helped a friend with their homework, when you did the ironing without being asked, or when you baked cookies after the family had had a tiring day.(在第二页的顶部,写上“善举”的标题。 F“Whatever it is, no matter how small it might seem, write it down.(不管是什么,不管它看起来有多小,都要把它写下来。)”
根据空后内容“That way, you could exchange thoughts on what makes each of you special and the aspects of your personality that shine through.(这样,你们就可以交换意见,谈谈是什么让你们每个人都与众不同,以及你们个性中闪光的方面。)” C“They might even like to have a go at doing the exercise.(他们甚至可能想试一试做练习。)”符合语境,C项中的“they”与空前的“You could ask a friend or family member to help add to your list.(你可以让朋友或家人帮你增加你的列表内容。)”中的“a friend or family member”保持一致,同时选项C和下文“In fact, don’t wait until you’ve made a mistake to try this—it’s a great way to boost self-confidence at any time.(事实上,不要等到你犯了错误才去尝试这个——这是一个在任何时候都能增强自信的好方法。)”
根据空前内容“It’s something of a cliché (陈词滥调) that most people learn not from their successes but their mistakes. The thing is, it’s true.(大多数人不是从他们的成功中学习,而是从他们的错误中学习,这是陈词滥调。 G“Whatever the mistake, remember it isn’t a fixed aspect of your personality.(不管你犯了什么错误,记住这不是你性格中固定的一面。)”符合语境,G项中的“isn’t a fixed aspect of your personality”和空后内容“We’ re all changing and learning all the time and mistakes are a positive way to develop and grow.(我们一直在改变和学习,错误是一种积极的发展和成长的方式。)”
