M:The cinema was in total darkness when we went in and it was no easy matter making our way to our seats.
The old man who had come in ahead of us was luckier;he had a stick to help him find his way, like a blind man.“It’s very funny not to have any lights on before the film starts,” I commented.
“And no music, either,”added my husband.“Well, perhaps they are saving money ”
We were in one of the rows nearest the entrance. We heard others pass by but we could not tell how big the audience was.Obviously, however, the cinema did not get very crowded at that time of day.
“It must be two o’clock already,”my husband said, getting restless.“Can you see your watch ”
My eyes had now grown accustomed to the darkness and by bringing my watch close to my eyes,I could just make out that it was a little after two. Just then the program started. But we were disappointed to find that there had been a change. The second of the two films, which we were not interested in seeing, was being shown first.

[2023·山东省青岛市二模]Leek Town Warriors was a girls' football team which used to get routinely defeated every time they turned out, until James Henry stepped in two years ago. He took the job when the previous coach quit and transformed the team's fortunes. With the help of his assistant Andy Austin, they started training hard in April 2020.
Some players had never kicked a football before joining the team, so training them took hours of hard work and patience. After a good few weeks, they got down to training and really started to take it in what the coach wanted. “I insist on doing the basic stuff well and letting the girls decide what they feel they need to work on.” James said.
James' first season was ruined by the pandemic, which forced him and Andy to get creative with training. They organized team building activities with the girls to help them bond on and off the field. James then spent the sessions they could hold focusing on the basics of football like passing and shooting, bringing the girls up to a good standard.
James watched the girls develop over the course of last year, and in September they played their first match of the new season. They won the game, and since then went on an unbeaten run of eight games. The team's star player, 15 year old Chelsea, has also impressed the audience individually, becoming the top scorer in the league with incredible 30 goals.
James said, “All the effort that the girls, us coaches and parents have put in to get this point has been enormous. If I hadn't had the Support of Andy helping me every week, this would have been an impossible task. So I'm incredibly grateful to have him on side. [2023·山东省日照市一模]The exact location in France where Dutch master Vincent van Gogh painted his last work of art has been discovered.
A Dutch researcher figured out that a scene described in the artist's last work, Tree Root, was visible on a postcard showing a man standing next to a bicycle on a back street of the village Auvers sur Oise. Van Gogh spent the last weeks of his life in the village. Helpfully, the card even included the name of the street.
Researchers were given a unique glimpse (体验) into the famous painter's final hours. He was at work right up to the end.
Wouter van der Veen, scientific director of the Van Gogh Institute in France, made the discovery. While stuck at home, van der Veen used the extra time to organize the numerous files and documents on van Gogh, including images such as the old postcard from Auvers sur Oise. One day in late April, he saw the card on his computer screen and it suddenly struck him that he was looking at the location of Tree Roots. Next to the man and his bicycle, roots and trees are clearly visible. He took a virtual trip down the site using Google's Street View.
“Villagers know the spot and the main treeroot well, even giving it the name ‘the elephant’ because of its shapes,” van der Veen said. “It was really hiding in overt sight.”
The discovery provides tourists with an extra reason to visit Auvers sur Oise. “They travel a lot just for one reason—to walk in the footsteps of Vincent van Gogh. Now they can stand at the very place where he painted his last painting,” van der Veen said. “And that's a very moving thing for a lot of people. So I'm very happy to be able to share that with all those who love van Gogh.”
28.What is Paragraph 2 mainly about
A.What the postcard revealed.
B.How Tree Roots was discovered.
C.Why Auvers sur Oise became known.
D.Where van Gogh painted his works.
29.How did van der Veen confirm his discovery
A.He studied a picture of Auvers sur Oise.
B.He organized his data on van Gogh.
C.He traveled to France to see for himself.
D.He paid a visit to the spot online.
30.What does the underlined word “overt” in Paragraph 5 mean
A.Mixed. B.Obvious. C.Lovely. D.Strange.
31.What can we infer about tourists to Auvers sur Oise
A.They enjoy exploring how to paint.
B.They share their love for van Gogh.
C.They admire van Gogh very much.
D.They want to experience the life there.

[2023·浙江省宁波市一模]Aeronautics (航空学) specialists from the University of South Australia spent months studying the dragonfly's flight, creating 3D models from digital images, to build a winged drone (无人机). Study leader Javaan Chahl believes that winged drones based on the dragonfly's shape and movement will simply be more flexible and energy efficient.
Chahl's team used a special photography technique to classify the wing shapes of 75 different dragonfly species from museum collections. Their wings are long, light and hard. Plus, their long bodies give them excellent stability and balance, making it possible for winged drones to deliver awkward loads and undertake long observation missions.
Investigating the way that dragonflies remain stable during flight actually reveals the techniques they use to get themselves out of tricky situations. Dragonflies are found to be able to perform upside down backflips to regain balance and normal flight, when they find themselves upside down mid air. This special skill can even be performed while dragonflies are unconscious, meaning it is a passive stability mechanism similar in concept to planes that are designed to glide to safety with their engines turned off. Engineers are looking to copy dragonfly wings to create safer drones that can right themselves.
Of course, not all attempts to build dragonfly like drones are successful. TechJet's air vehicle was supposed to operate as an aerial camera, observation and security drone, but it failed before production got underway. Similarly, Insectothopter, an American dragonfly spy drone built in the 1970s was deserted.
Yet the principles behind winged drones are solid. In fact, NASA has settled on a nuclear powered autonomous craft called Dragonfly to explore the surface of Saturn's moon Titan in 2034. NASA's project is actually an air vehicle, rather than a winged drone, but engineers are still convinced they can crack the code of nature's most gifted flying insect and revolutionize unmanned flight along the way.
32.Why did aeronautics specialists spend months studying the dragonfly's flight
A.To build 3D models from digital images.
B.To make winged drones modelled after it.
C.To clarify the flexibility and efficiency of drones.
D.To display the shape and movement of the dragonfly.
33.The special skill of dragonflies is their ability to ________.
A.glide to safety B.avoid tricky situations
C.perform observation tasks D.adjust themselves to stay stable
34.What is the author's attitude towards winged drones
A.Skeptical. B.Uncertain. C.Supportive. D.Conservative.
35.Which can be a suitable title for the text
A.Winged Drones: Still a Long Way to Go
B.Javaan Chahl: An Innovative Leader of Aeronautics
C.A Dragonfly's Flying Technique: Perfect for Drones
D.The Code of Nature: A Solution to NASA's Space Exploration

[2023·湖南省长沙市一模]When I was 13, I climbed my first mountain. I was overweight at the time and out of breath when I reached the peak. But I loved the challenge of it. Soon I'd climbed nearly 100 peaks. My parents were happy I'd finally found my favorite hobby.
I often go climbing with my friend Mel Olsen. Two years ago, on December 30, when I was 16, she and I drove to Oregon to tackle 11, 240 foot Mount Hood.
It's safer to start winter climbs at night when there's less risk of the sun melting the snowpack. That day, we started at 3 a.m., following the paths alongside the ski runs. The temperature was about 14 degrees, and we wore layers we could easily remove, knowing the climbing would make us warm.
After about five hours, we reached Devil's Kitchen, a plateau (高原) at about 10,000 feet, just before the final push to the top. By this point, the wind conditions were very unpleasant. My exposed skin felt as though it were burning. Some other climbers decided to turn back, but Mel and I went ahead. We had ice axes (斧子), helmets and crampons (带钉铁鞋底). We were prepared for the climb.
The trail we followed grew narrower and steeper. At around 9 a.m., we reached an ice step. It was about three or four feet tall and sloped at a 75 degree angle. I volunteered to go first. I placed my left foot on the ice step.
You gain a sense of the ice when you stick your ax and crampons into it, and it felt good. Confident that I was safe, I put my full weight on it. Suddenly I heard a crack, and a whole thick piece of ice broke off the step, right under my foot.
In an instant, I fell backward. I could hear Mel calling my name as I fell down, bouncing off the rock face and rolling down the mountain as if I were a character in a video game. I remember thinking, “That is it. You're done.”

I stuck out my arms and legs, grabbing at anything. But it didn't help!/(That slowed my rolling down the mountain, but I was still sliding.) After a few heart in mouth seconds, I came to a stop on an icy rock. My clothes were shredded, my helmet was broken and my face was bloodied from cuts and scratches. Worse still, I was suffering from a sharp, unbearable pain in my legs. Fear gripped me and I was sinking to the depths of despair when Mel made her way down. Seeing me unable to move, she yelled for help, and with the help of several adult climbers she called the Mountain Rescue.
With Mel by my side I'd been lying on the icy rock for four hours by the time the rescuers reached me. They strapped me into a sled and pulled me down the mountain. I have a pretty high pain tolerance, but I screamed with each bounce. At the bottom of Mount Hood, I was loaded into an ambulance and taken to a hospital, where my broken legs were treated. I didn't get released until one month later. It's true that the fall brought me pain and made me more cautious. But the experience also made me grow as a person with growing faith in friendship and greater enthusiasm for my favorite hobby.

All we want is to bring more girls into the game and show that it's not all about having the best players; it's about hard work and giving everyone the chance to play.”

Since its start in 2020, the Chip Bag Project has collected more than 800,000 chip bags and created 110 sleeping bags. Sure, it would be __50__ to raise the money to buy new sleeping bags. But that's only half the goal for Oleita—whose family __51__ to the United States from Nigeria a decade ago with the hope of attaining a better life—and her fellow __52__. “We are devoted to making an impact not only socially, but __53__,” she says.
And, of course, there's the symbolism of saving bags that would otherwise land in the trash and using them to help the homeless. It's a powerful __54__ that environmental injustice and _55__ often go hand in hand. As Oleita said, “I think it's time to show connection between all of these issues.”

第二节(满分25分) .读后续写
