语篇品读 Allégorie réelle déterminant une phase de sept années de ma vie artistique et morale, oil painting created in 1854–55 by French artist Gustave Courbet. The most mysterious of his paintings, this relatively early work initially garnered the praise of Eugène Delacroix alone. When this painting was rejected for the Universal Exposition, Courbet opened his own pavilion to display his works. Courbet was a founder and the leader of Realism, the influential 19th-century literary and artistic movement that focused on ordinary people, everyday themes, and visual verisimilitude. Courbet was particularly interested in France’s peasantry, and he painted many of his most important pictures in his hometown of Ornans. The Painter’s Studio differs significantly in tone and topic from Courbet’s depictions of rural domestic dramas and radiant landscapes, yet his most visually elaborate and densely narrative painting is still considered one of his greatest masterpieces. The painting’s full title is a clever pun, since it is both a genuine allegory and Courbet’s allegory of the philosophy behind Realism. At the centre of the composition Courbet sits painting one of his more typical canvases, which symbolically represents his ethos of “truth” in painting. The nude model watching him paint acts as the embodiment of unidealized beauty and academic tradition. On the left side is a crowd of the ordinary people of France, including a contorted, possibly crucified figure. On the right side, the crowd is made of portraits of Courbet’s friends, collectors, and patrons, among them Pierre-Joseph Proudhon and Charles Baudelaire. Yet the most noticeable figure in the centre is a little peasant boy, whose opinion seems to matter more to the artist than those of the affluently dressed scholars and collectors observing him, demonstrating the importance for artists to observe and represent the beauty of their contemporary reality.

The Steps in Restoring a Painting
Every work is different. The only thing they all have in common is it takes time! Below we have broken the restoration (修复) process into 6 major steps.
Step 1 The Test Clean
We use ‘Ultraviolet Light (紫外光)’ to check which generally shows up any previous restoration. Once satisfied, we then ‘Spot Clean’ in several places using a cotton stick to carefully remove the varnish (亮光漆) and determine what lies beneath! 4
Step 2 Client Communication
We always contact the client at this stage! 5 After detailed discussions it was decided to reveal and restore the original painting.
Step 3 Total Clean
6 It involves extreme care in removing the many years of old varnish and any previous restoration or repainting work done by other restorers to reveal the original painting.
Step 4 Stretchers and Relining
It’s at this stage where the canvas (画布) is relined. 7 We always try to keep the painting as original as possible.
Step 5 Retouching
Retouching is extremely time-consuming and must be undertaken with great care! Although we are literally ‘drawing’ paint to infill the damaged areas, the style and brushwork of the original artist must be respected and copied to maintain the authenticity (真实性) of the work.
Step 6 Varnishing and Finishing
8 We offer a choice from Matt, Semi Matt through to full Gloss to meet the clients’ taste. They are applied by hand or spray to suit the work and style of the painting.
A.We discuss the way forward.
B.This stage frightens many people.
C.Total clean is a slow and painful job.
D.We use a range of top quality varnishes to protect the work.
E.The effect must match the original painting as closely as possible.
F.And only in the most extreme circumstances would we fit a new or recycled stretcher.
G.This is the first time we can truly know what work is required to complete the restoration.
【答案】4.G 5.A 6.C 7.F 8.D
4.根据小标题“Step 1 The Test Clean (步骤1:检查清洁)”和上文“We use ‘Ultraviolet Light (紫外光)’ to check which generally shows up any previous restoration. Once satisfied, we then ‘Spot Clean’ in several places using a cotton stick to carefully remove the varnish (亮光漆) and determine what lies beneath!(我们使用“紫外线灯”来检查,通常会显示任何先前的修复。 可推知,进行“检查清洁”是修复绘画的第一步,通过检查来发现需要对什么地方进行修复,并先对其进行清洁,即G选项“This is the first time we can truly know what work is required to complete the restoration.(这是我们第一次真正知道完成修复需要做什么工作。)”。故选G项。
5.上文“We always contact the client at this stage!(我们总是在这个阶段联系客户!)”提出联系客户,A项“We discuss the way forward.(我们讨论如何进行下一步工作。)” 故选A项。
6.小标题“Step 3 Total Clean(步骤3:彻底清洁)”提出Total Clean的概念,C项“Total clean is a slow and painful job.(彻底清洁是一项缓慢而痛苦的工作。)”
7.下文“We always try to keep the painting as original as possible.(我们总是尽量保持这幅画原来的样子。)”是对F项“And only in the most extreme circumstances would we fit a new or recycled stretcher.(只有在最极端的情况下,我们才会安一个新的或可回收的画框。)”
8.下文“We offer a choice from Matt, Semi Matt through to full Gloss to meet the clients’ taste. They are applied by hand or spray to suit the work and style of the painting.(我们提供从哑光,半哑光到全光泽的选择,以满足客户的口味。 详解了修复用清漆的选择,是对D项“We use a range of top quality varnishes to protect the work.(我们使用一系列高质量的清漆来保护作品。)”

(2023·全国乙卷)Living in Iowa and trying to become a photographer specializing in landscape (风景) can be quite a challenge, mainly because the corn state lacks geographical variation.
Although landscapes in the Midwest tend to be quite similar, either farm fields or highways, sometimes I find distinctive character in the hills or lakes. To make some of my landscape shots, I have traveled up to four hours away to shoot within a 10-minute time frame. I tend to travel with a few of my friends to state parks or to the countryside to go on adventures and take photos along the way.
Being at the right place at the right time is decisive in any style of photography. I often leave early to seek the right destinations so I can set up early to avoid missing the moment I am attempting to photograph. I have missed plenty of beautiful sunsets/sunrises due to being on the spot only five minutes before the best moment.
One time my friends and I drove three hours to Devil’s Lake, Wisconsin, to climb the purple quartz (石英) rock around the lake. After we found a crazy-looking road that hung over a bunch of rocks, we decided to photograph the scene at sunset. The position enabled us to look over the lake with the sunset in the background. We managed to leave this spot to climb higher because of the spare time until sunset. However, we did not mark the route (路线) so we ended up almost missing the sunset entirely. Once we found the place, it was stressful getting lights and cameras set up in the limited time. Still, looking back on the photos, they are some of my best shots though they could have been so much better if I would have been prepared and managed my time wisely.
1.How does the author deal with the challenge as a landscape photographer in the Midwest
A.By teaming up with other photographers.
B.By shooting in the countryside or state parks.
C.By studying the geographical conditions.
D.By creating settings in the corn fields.
2.What is the key to successful landscape photography according to the author
A.Proper time management. B.Good shooting techniques.
C.Adventurous spirit. D.Distinctive styles.
3.What can we infer from the author’s trip with friends to Devil’s Lake
A.They went crazy with the purple quartz rock.
B.They felt stressed while waiting for the sunset.
C.They reached the shooting spot later than expected.
D.They had problems with their equipment.
4.How does the author find his photos taken at Devil’s Lake
A.Amusing. B.Satisfying.
C.Encouraging. D.Comforting.
【答案】1.B 2.A 3.C 4.B
通过文章第二段“I tend to travel with a few of my friends to state parks or to the countryside to go on adventures and take photos along the way.
通过文章最后一段“Still, looking back on the photos, they are some of my best shots though they could have been so much better if I would have been prepared and managed my time wisely. 故选A。
通过文章最后一段“However, we did not mark the route (路线) so we ended up almost missing the sunset entirely.

(2023·新高考Ⅱ卷)As an artist who shares her journey on social media, I’m often asked by curious followers how to begin an art journey. Unfortunately, there is no magic list I can offer. I do remember, though, what it was like to be a complete beginner. So I’ve put together some good tips for starting an art journey.
·Start small. I suggest using a sketchbook (素描本) for small studies. These small studies provide inspiration and may be a springboard for more complex works in the future. 5 You’ll want to look back on your journey to see how far you’ve come.
·Paint often and paint from life. There’s no better way to improve than to put in those brush miles. Whether you paint still lifes, portraits, or landscapes, paint from life as much as possible. 6
·Continually challenge yourself to try something new. 7 Artistic growth can be a bit painful. Welcome to the club;we’ve all been there. I love taking on challenges. I once took up a challenge to create a painting every day for a month and post the works online.
· 8 Seeking and accepting constructive feedback (反馈) is crucial to growth. I post my work on social media and, in turn, have met some of the kindest people. They make me feel valued and respected, no matter my level of artistic ability.
The journey you’re on won’t follow a straight path. 9 Push through, give it time and put in the effort. You will harvest the rewards of an artistic life.
A.Get out of your comfort zone.
B.Make career plans and set goals.
C.Don’t throw away your beginner art.
D.Share your work if you feel comfortable doing so.
E.You’ll hit roadblocks, and you’ll feel discouraged at times.
F.Evaluate your performance and, if needed, redefine your role.
G.You’ll develop that painting muscle memory that only comes with repetition.
【答案】5.C 6.G 7.A 8.D 9.E
I suggest using a sketchbook (素描本) for small studies. These small studies provide inspiration and may be a springboard for more complex works in the future. 这些小的学习和实践可以提供灵感,并成为未来更复杂的作品的跳板)”以及后文“You’ll want to look back on your journey to see how far you’ve come.
6.分析设空处,位于段尾,是对本段的总结,根据前文“Paint often and paint from life. There’s no better way to improve than to put in those brush miles. Whether you paint still lifes, portraits, or landscapes, paint from life as much as possible.
A. nod点头;B. point指;C. listen听;D. chat闲聊。由下文“Now I was paying the price﹣to write a five﹣page essay on “Why I Should Not Talk in Class”.(现在我在付出代价——就“我为什么不应该在班里说话”写一篇五页的文章)”和“I began with the reasons Ms Black would want to hear.”
A. weep哭泣;B. rest休息;C. write写;D. read读。由上文“to write a five﹣page essay on “Why I Should Not Talk in Class””可知,此处write是同词复现,我开始写这篇五页的文章,故选C。
A. learning学习;B. playing玩;C. planning计划;D. laughing笑。由上文“Now I was paying the price﹣to write a five﹣page essay on “Why I Should Not Talk in Class”. That would take all night!”和“I began with the reasons Ms Black would want to hear.”
A. standing out突出;B. flying by飞越;飞逝;C. breaking up分手;D. checking in登记。由上文“Without the education I was throwing away, I’d turn to theft and go to prison. When I got out, people would say, “She used to talk in class.””
这不可能!”A. celebrating庆祝;B. longing渴望;C. complaining抱怨;D. warning警告。由下文““Five pages! That’s impossible!””
A. lecture说教;B. reason原因;C. reward奖励;D. solution解决办法。由下文“at least an “I hope you’ve learned your lesson”.”
A. Therefore因此;B. 前后句子“I half expected a______7____﹣at least an “I hope you’ve learned your lesson”.”和“mum laughed and laughed as she read.”
由下文“they weren’t making fun of me: they laughed because I had the power to tell a funny story.”

B.This stage frightens many people.
C.Total clean is a slow and painful job.
