I am my mother’s third girl. When I was born, the doctor gently explained to my mother that my left arm was missing, below the elbow (肘). Then he gave her some advice, “Don’t treat her any differently from the other girls.” And she did!
There were five girls in our family and we all had to help out. Once when I was about seven, I came out of the kitchen, “Mum, I can’t peel (削……皮) potatoes. I only have one hand.”
“You get back to peel those potatoes, and don’t ever use that as an excuse for anything again!”
Of course I could peel potatoes—with my good hand and my other arm. “Jenny, if you try hard enough,” she said, “you can do anything.”
Once in the second grade, our teacher had each of us race across the monkey bar (攀爬架). When it was my turn, I said no. Some kids laughed. I went home crying.
The next afternoon Mum took me back to the school playground. “Now, pull up with your right arm,” she advised. She praised me when I made progress. I’ll never forget when I was crossing the bar, the kids were standing there with their mouths open.
It was the way with everything. Mum had the courage to face anything. And she taught me I could, too.
( ) 1. How many younger sisters did Jenny have
A. Two. B. Three. C. Four. D. Five.
( ) 2. What does the doctor’s advice mean

Our reporter asked people what they were doing on July 20th, 1969 when man first walked on the Moon. Here is what they said:
Kate Jones, waitress: I remember that day very well. I was fifteen years old. It was a hot day and I was with my family in the mountains. We were having a picnic. We didn’t see the Moon landing when it happened, but we were thinking about it. We saw it later on the TV news.

What will the future be like It’s possible that we may often fly up into space! Out of all the coolest inventions of the year 2004, Time magazine chose Space Ship One as the best.
Space Ship One is a 6-metre-long white spacecraft. On June 21, American pilot Mike
Melvill flew it to space and back—about 100 kilometres up into the sky. Some might say it’s not a big success. You know, people went to the Moon years ago.
Well, Space Ship One is special because it is the first spaceship that wasn’t made by the government. It was built and sent up by a private US company. Lots of people want to travel in space and think that it is an enjoyable trip. But it’s too expensive. American millionaire Dennis Tito paid almost US $20 million to become the first space tourist to visit the International Space Station in 2001. So private companies began to think of making their own spacecraft to take other tourists up into space.
Certainly, the success of Space Ship One is a good start. In the next 10 to 15 years, if you pay $20,000 to $100,000, you could fly high above the Earth in a special suit.
Can you imagine having your own spacecraft in your garage and taking it to space at the weekend
