情态动词本身有各种意义，但不能单独做谓语，只能和动词一起构成谓语，表示说话人的语气和情感。没有人称和数的变化。

①can(could)“可以，同意，准许”表示请求，允许。
②can“会，能”，表现在或将来的能力。could表示过去的能
力。could语气较can委婉。
③当表示允许别人做某事时，用can而不用could.
④表示提议和请求。在语气上could较客气，但can较肯定。
