2. 基于语料
本模块是牛津译林版高中英语必修二 Unit 2第一篇阅读语篇A beginner’s guide to exercise中的词汇部分,要求学生理解本文语篇有关锻炼的话题,表达自己关于锻炼的想法。
本单元是关于运动与健康话题的学习和讨论,本课教材内容是本单元A beginner’s guide to exercise部分的词汇。语言接近学生生活,简洁易懂,有逻辑。通过口语表达活动,帮助学生提高输出语言的能力,提高学生的核心素养。
三、学情分析:
本次授课的对象是芜湖市某中学的高一年级学生,学生具备一定的语言阅读理解能力。通过module1整本书的学习,学生具有一定的词汇量基础,但词汇量水平不一。多数学生可以在老师的指导下进行自学。学生要求老师要照顾大多数学生的需求,尽量照顾到每个学生。
四、教学目标:
通过阅读词汇和语篇,学生能够与同伴交流锻炼的好处和方法,提高口语表达能力。
通过讨论锻炼的益处,学生能够树立正确的锻炼意识并将锻炼付诸实践。
通过变换语篇的标题,培养学生批判性地评判作者的观点和创造性地表达自己的观点。
通过学习新词汇,培养学生逐步掌握正确的学习词汇的策略,并及时调整自己的学习词汇策略。
五、教学重难点:

Teaching Procedures:
Stage 1. Lead-in
Activity 1: Discussion (pair work 4 mins)
The teacher shows students a video about gymnastics. And ask students to discuss their favorite sport. After discussion, the teacher invites 3-4 students to share their ideas with classmates.

[Justification: Through discussing their favorite sport to arouse students’ interest on exercise, activate their background knowledge of sports and exercise.]
Stage 2 Presentation
Activity 2: Choosing another title (individual work 2 mins)
Ask students to read the passage quickly and choose another title for the passage. Give reasons.

[Justification: By choosing another title, students could know the main idea of the passage. Students could also accumulate some vocabularies of the topic, which can make a foundation for the following speaking activities.]
Activity 3: underlining and Guessing (individual work& pair work 4 mins)
Students read the passages quickly and underline some new words they don’t know. Then, ask students to guess the new words first, and discuss some unfamiliar words with their partner if necessary. They may also look it up in a e-dictionary.
[Justification: By guessing activity, cultivate students’ guessing skill in a context, which is an important reading skill in many examinations. To cultivate students’ self-learning ability by asking them learning vocabulary by themselves.]
Activity 4: Presentation new words (10mins)
Teacher presents some key words under contextual situation. New words are “routine, assume, do wonders, stretch, workout”.
When you plan an exercise routine, the first thing to consider is what you expect to improve: heart and lung efficiency, muscle strength or flexibility. (Line 14)

Most people assume that regular exercise does wonders for the body and mind but what exactly are its health benefits (Line 4)

Flexibility training, including gymnastics and tai chi, helps stretch your muscles and improve your body’s range of movement. (Line 20)

Foods like noodles, rice, fruit and vegetables give your body plenty of carbohydrates to keep up your energy during a long workout. (Line 28)
Workout: a period of physical exercise that you do to keep fit
[Justification: Teach these new words in the sentences and paraphrase it in some simple words, which could help students learn new words in effective way.]
Stage 3 Practice
Activity 5: (Individual work 4 mins)
Ask students to make a short story by using these new words.

Ask students to discuss the benefits of exercise in pairs.

Activity 7: Discuss your workout plan (group work 5 mins)
Ask students to discuss a workout plan in groups.

Activity 8: Write a workout plan (individual work 6 mins)
Ask students to write a workout plan about the reasons and the ways of my workout. The title could be “My workout plan”

Activity 9: Conclude the learning methods (plenary 3 mins)
Guide students conclude the strategies of learning vocabulary. 1. Guess the meaning of the word in a context. 2. Look it up in a dictionary. 3. Make a connection between the new word and a learned word. 4. Remember a new word in a sentence.

Do an interview in class about classmates’ workout plan.
