Fishing trips to Canada are a tradition for Jeffrey Hardy and his three friends from America. This summer in 2023, the forest air polluted with wildfire smoke forced the men to give up their mid-June fishing plan. Canada’s wildfire season put its tourism industry at a crucial time.
Except some days of poor air quality, major Canadian cities remain unaffected by wildfires. The fires are in the country’s northern areas that have drawn travelers interested in outdoor experiences in years past.
In a recent report by Destination Canada, a marketing organization, half of the total spent by international visitors is in Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal. But other Canadian destinations attractive to visitors have been affected by the wildfires.
In preparation for increasing visitor sizes and ongoing wildfires, some businesses are thinking about changing their operations, which see outdoor recreation (娱乐) as a tourism opportunity. A nonprofit travel agency is considering creating a questionnaire (调查问卷) for customers to show when they would cancel a booking because of road closes from the wildfires, poor air quality and a lack of visibility.
Tourism in British Columbia contributes greatly to its economy. The province has various recreational offerings, from the major ski destinations to hiking along the coast. Blackcomb, a helicopter tour company, has canceled its sightseeing offerings, using most of its helicopters on the firefighting effort until at least early August. “It’s the question of flying our customers around on sightseeing tours or putting out fire s within 10 kilometers of our bases and the communities that we live in,” said Jordy Norris, the company’s tourism director. “We made it clear to both our staff and our customers that we have a duty to protect the backyard.”
Darrin Rigo, a photographer, recently saw a photo of a beautiful waterfall engulfed in fire on a media page. “I’m sure that’s not going to last long, and everything will turn to normal.” he said.
4. Which part of Canada is most affected by the wildfire
A. Canada’s central part. B. The northern areas.
C. Major Canadian cities. D. Places with few visitors.
5. What can be inferred about Jordy Norris
A. He is sad about his company’s loss from the fire.
B. He is confident about the use of the questionnaire.
C. He is glad to join in the fight against the wildfire.
D. He is stressed about the fire’s effect on his company.
6. What does the underlined word “engulfed” in paragraph 6 mean
A. Covered. B. Donated C. Rescued. D. Protected.
7. Which of the following can be the best title for the text
A. Tourism Suffers Great Loss in the Wildfire B. All of Canada Have Acted to Beat Wildfire
C. Most of Canada Is Affected by the Wildfire D. Wildfire Won’t Stop Canada’s Tourism Development

There are so many rabbits across Australia that it may be surprising to learn that they are a non-native species. A few rabbits arrived with British settlers in 1788, but it was not until 1859, when a British-born farmer named Thomas Austin brought 24 European rabbits to his land for hunting, that they began to live there. They are an excellent example of an invasive (侵入的) species, a non-native species that does harm to its new environment.
Rabbits have lived well in many different environments within Australia, such as grasslands, coastal areas, farmland, and even in towns or cities. Their activities have destroyed crops and plants. They compete directly with other wildlife for food and shelter, including taking over burrows (地洞) of other animals. They have led to dangerously reduced populations of many plant and animal species.
Efforts to control the rabbit population have had mixed success. The first main effort was the Rabbit-Proof Fence. In 1901, the government started building a knee in the state of Western Australia to protect farmland from rabbits. By the time it was finished in 1907, the Rabbit-Proof Fence ran some 2,000 miles from north to south. The Acting Chief Inspector of Rabbits, Alexander Crawford, headed a team whose job was to go around keeping the fence in working order. But over time, the fence proved to be no match for the rabbits.
Other main efforts have included programs to destroy rabbit burrows or use viruses that sicken and kill rabbits. Again, these efforts have been less than successful. The big problem to any efforts to control the rabbit population is simply that their population grows so quickly. One female can have 30 young in a year.
If Thomas Austin had known the damage that the rabbits would cause across the country, he might have had second thoughts about bringing rabbits to Australia.
8. Why did rabbits begin to live in Australia
A. They travelled there by chance.
B. They were brought in by Thomas Austin.
C. They were introduced by the government.
D. They moved there to escape bad environment.
9. What is Paragraph 2 mainly about
A. Some activities of rabbits.
B. Rabbits’ ability to live in the wild.
C. How fast the population of rabbits grows.
D. The damage rabbits have caused to Australia.
10 How successful was the Rabbit-Proof Fence
A. It failed in the beginning.
B. It didn’t live up to expectations.
C. It was unfinished for lack of money.
D. It failed later for nobody protected it.
11. What would be the best title for the text
A. Rabbits and farming
B. Efforts to control rabbits
C. Rabbits: experts in burrowing
D. Rabbits: unwelcome newcomers

The first time my parents watched me compete in a mountain bike race, they tried to get me to quit. While I was riding down a hill, I hit a huge rock, flew through the air and crashed to the ground. However, this kind of thing happens all the time. I just got up as fast as I could, got back on my bike and kept going. And I won that race, despite taking quite a spill!
My earliest bike memories are of my father taking me out for rides in the child seat on the back of his ten-speed. A couple years later, I got my first bike. But my parents wouldn’t let me ride more than a few blocks from the house until I was ten. The morning of my tenth birthday, I got my older sister to take me on a long ride. We ended up at my aunt’s house. I was totally exhausted and every muscle in my body ached. But I didn’t care. I knew that this was only the beginning, and all I could think about was where my next trip would take me.
When I was in the eighth grade, our gym teacher, Mr. Raines, sent out a flyer about starting a mountain bike club. I ran to his office between classes and signed up. Over the next few months, the ten of us who joined the club worked on our biking skills. Besides taking us out riding, Mr. Raines taught us about bike safety, and showed us how to properly maintain and repair our bikes. He also helped us form a mountain bike team. At first, we competed against each other. Later, we went up against other schools. We continued to train and compete all through high school.
Biking has been the major focus of my life. Those early trips on the back of my father’s bike got me started. The long rides with my sister increased my enthusiasm. Then, the training and competitions in the bike club guaranteed that I would turn into a lifelong bike fan. I think everyone should have a hobby like this-something that is good for them and makes them happy.
12. What happened to the author during his mountain bike race
A. He suffered a big fall. B. He lost the competition.
C. He ran out of energy halfway. D. He hit his head on a huge rock.
13. How did the author feel about his trip to his aunt’s home
A. Worried and exhausted. B. Surprised and curious.
C. Excited but nervous. D. Tired but happy.
14. Which of the following did the author do in his bike club
A. He repaired the used bikes. B. He taught biking skills.
C. He took part in races. D. He gave out lots of flyers.
15. What would be the best title for the text
A. Why I Love Biking B. How I Formed a Bike Club
C. Why I Compete in Bike Races D. How I Improved My Biking Skills

Once upon a time, in a small town located near the edge of a vast forest, two adventurous souls named John and David had long been keen to go deep into the heart of nature. One day, armed with their backpacks, they determined to explore the forest. The villagers had warned them to stick to the main path, cautioning that there could be hunters’ traps elsewhere, but the appeal of the charming forest was too great to resist.
As they confidently ventured deeper into the forest, its beauty unfolded before their eyes. An hour later, driven by the hunger for the unknown, they made a decision to take the less-traveled path, making marks along the way carefully as they went. For another two hours, they observed various flowers, took pictures of strange-shaped rocks and marveled at the breathtaking scenery. The forest seemed to be a world of its own, untouched by human presence. Everything appeared so beautiful.
However, little did they know that danger was hidden under their feet. As they went further, they realized that their phones had lost signal, and they were completely cut off from the outside world. Suddenly, John stepped forward and felt the ground gave way beneath him. Before he knew it, he had fallen into a hidden pit(深坑), his leg trapped by the wooden spikes(尖刺) lining the bottom. Pain shot through his body as he cried out for help.
Upon hearing John’s crying out in pain, David quickly ran to the edge of the pit, desperately trying to find a way to pull his friend out. However, his efforts were in vain. “John, are you okay Can you move your leg ” asked David worriedly. John winced in pain as he tried to move his injured leg, “I think I’ve hurt my leg, David.
Rabbits have lived well in many different environments within Australia such as grasslands, coastal areas, farmland, and even in towns or cities.
10. How successful was the Rabbit-Proof Fence
A. It failed in the beginning.
B. It didn’t live up to expectations.
C. It was unfinished for lack of money.
D. It failed later for nobody protected it.
11. What would be the best title for the text

考查时态和主谓一致。 句意:酸甜的山楂和甜甜的糖,糖葫芦的味道是一种混合的味道,常常让人想起快乐的童年。分析句子成分可知,which often ___10___ (remind)people of their happy childhoods为定语从句,所设空处为谓语动词,根据语境,应用一般现在时。主语which指代的是tha taste of tanghulu"糖葫芦的味道”,所以谓语动词要用第三人称单数形式。 主要和谓语动词之间是主动关系,故填reminds.

【答案】Smart phones have become increasingly popular in China nowadays. With a smart phone, people can contact with anybody they want. Besides, they can get some information from the Internet easily.
But everything has two sides. Using them may also cause some problems. If people stare at the mobile phone for a long time, it will do great harm to their eyes.

It aches a lot.” “It’s going to be okay, John,” David comforted him, “I’ll find a way to get you out of here!” With no phone signal and nightfall approaching, David knew he had to act fast.

【答案】He couldn’t pull John out of the pit, so he decided to get out and seek help. With a heavy heart, he departed from John and pressed onward as swiftly as possible. David ran with all his might, retracing their earlier steps and shouting for help, his voice echoing through the vast emptiness, hoping that someone might hear his cries. Minutes felt like hours, and with each passing second, his anxiety grew. Just when he thought all hope was lost, David spotted a group of villagers not too far away. Relief flooded through him as he waved his arms and yelled to attract their attention. Upon approaching them, David gasped for breath and explained everything to the villagers. They quickly gathered supplies and formed a rescue party.
Together they journeyed back to where John awaited rescue. The rescue party worked quickly, using ropes to lift John out of the pit. Hardly had John emerged than he was greeted with cheers and applause from the group. They tended to his wounds, which were fortunately not that serious, and helped him to his feet. Exhausted but relieved, John’s heart overflowed with gratitude to David and the villagers, whose unwavering support and kindness served as a saving grace. Their journey taught them the importance of preparation, caution, and respect for nature’s unpredictable power. Both men knew that this experience would stay with them forever, a testament to the power of friendship and determination in the face of adversity.
