A Florida teen is gaining national attention with her graduation speech and a basket of strawberries. “Care for some strawberries ” Brenda said at her graduation from Mulberry High School. After jokingly acknowledging there might not be enough, she went on, “These are no ordinary strawberries.” She held up a series of strawberries, revealing what each represents: sweat, dirt, aches, and pains.
Brenda described herself as the daughter of two tireless farmers who immigrated from Mexico and spent most of their days working in fields of strawberries, blueberries, and cucumbers. “My motivation has been rooted in my immigrant culture.” Because of this, she chose to focus on that in her address. “Many students used to be ashamed of their upbringing but today, we’re proud of what makes us.”
She explained how she grew up under poor conditions. “I’m motivated by my parents’ hands that lose feeling from laborious work. Despite the hot sun and body pains, they back me up heart and soul in my education, which weighs more strongly with me than anything else. I must work hard and succeed.” Brenda’s heading to Stanford University this fall. She also credited some of her outstanding achievements to her teacher Higgins, who helps immigrant students and the poor.
Her speech has been viewed by thousands online. “Hearing it touched other people’s hearts who said they understood my message, I’m struck the same,” Brenda said later. The principal of Mulberry High School, Michael Young, was one member of the audience getting emotional. “The speech was very powerful—her fruit did help paint a good picture of things she wanted to convey,” Young said.
As for her message to young people struggling, Brenda said, “Past circumstances aren’t in charge of your future. If you’re from a poor family, use every resource and try to better yourself. You’re the author of your story.”

Society tells us we should socialise to the fullest, and that those who are surrounded by people are the most successful and the happiest. These days, we’re almost always connected, whether in person or through our phone screens and online social networks. But there’s something to be said for solitude(独处), “Being alone doesn’t necessarily mean being lonely”. In fact, spending time by yourself is an essential element of self-care.
Around the globe, different cultures have wide-ranging perspectives on what it means to spend time alone. If you live or have spent time in the United States, you’re probably aware that Americans tend to reject solitude. For many younger people, weekends are packed with social activities, ranging from brunch with friends to dinner parties to game nights to drinking at bars and everything in between.
The United States isn’t the only place where you’ll find a heavy emphasis on social time. Across the Atlantic, the United Kingdom is known for being an extremely extroverted(外向型的)country. A survey of Brits found that more than half had never done and would be unwilling to do activities like going to theme parks or seeing live music alone. Most Brits spend almost twice as much of their leisure time socialising with others as they do being alone.
The home can be a place of rest, relaxation and recharge—that is, if you live by yourself or have the space to be alone in your home. The country in which people are least likely to live alone is India, at about 4 percent of the population. China is also quite fond of multiple-person households, with only about 10 percent of people living by themselves. In more collectivist cultures like these, many aspects of life are related to community. Thus, spending time alone isn’t as ingrained(根深蒂固的)as a social convention in places like these, and the good of the group takes priority over the needs of one person.
8. What can we learn from the first paragraph
A. People can benefit more from solitude.
B. People tend to socialise more nowadays.
C. Being alone generally equals being lonely.
D. Being alone enables people to be carefree.
9. Which of the following best describes young Americans
A. Imaginative and wild. B. Responsible and energetic.
C. Optimistic and dutiful. D. Outgoing and sociable.
10. Why are most Chinese people more likely to live together
A. Because they share a specific culture.
B. Because they lack some local customs.
C. Because they possess enough home space.
D. Because they give priority to their own needs.
11. What’s the best title for the passage
A. The Essence of Self-care B. Enjoy Solitude, Enjoy Yourself
C. The Functions of Different Cultures D. The Perspectives on Solitude
D
Overcoming learning disabilities has long been a challenge for educators and students alike. However, recent advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) technology have shown promise in revolutionizing the way we approach education for students with learning disabilities.
One of the most significant ways AI can assist is through the use of adaptive learning systems. These systems use algorithms (算法) to analyze a student’s performance and adjust the learning content and pace accordingly. This personalized approach allows them to progress at their own pace, without feeling overwhelmed or left behind. Furthermore, adaptive learning systems can identify areas where a student may be struggling and provide targeted support.
Another way AI can support them is through natural language processing (NLP) technology. NLP enables computers to understand and interpret human language, allowing AI-powered tools to provide real-time feedback on a student’s written work. This can be particularly beneficial for students with dyslexia, who often struggle with spelling, grammar, and sentence structure. By providing immediate feedback, students can identify and correct their mistakes, leading to improved writing skills and increased confidence.
AI can also play a role in developing their social and emotional skills. Many students with learning disabilities experience social isolation. AI-powered social robots can recognize and respond to human emotions, allowing students to engage in interactive conversations and activities that help develop their social and emotional intelligence.
While the potential benefits of AI in education are clear, it is essential to recognize AI isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution. Educators must carefully consider the moral implications of using AI in the classroom and ensure these tools are used responsibly and with the best interests of the students in mind. Moreover, it is crucial to remember AI shouldn’t replace human educators but rather serve as a tool to enhance and support their efforts. Teachers play a vital role by providing empathy, understanding, and guidance that cannot be reproduced by a machine. By combining the power of AI with the skills and compassion of human educators, we can create a more inclusive and effective educational environment for all students.
12. How can adaptive systems help students with learning disabilities
A. By adjusting their learning methods. B. By analyzing their learning abilities.
C. By satisfying their curiosity in learning. D. By offering personalized learning assistance.
13. What does the underlined word “dyslexia” in paragraph 3 refer to
A. A mental illness affecting human intelligence.
B A brain disease leading to lack of confidence in study.
C. A language-related skill applied in the learning process.
D. A learning disorder involving difficulty in reading and writing.
14. What is the value of AI-powered social robots
A. Engaging students in learning activities. B. Narrowing the social distance between people.
C. Assisting learners to overcome social isolation. D. Helping learners adopt effective reading strategies.
15. What does the author say about AI in the last paragraph
A. It can’t provide understanding like human educators.
B. It can’t create an inclusive learning environment.
C. It can meet a wide range of learning needs.
D. It can guarantee learners’ data security.

Encourage gesture in your children, students and anyone you are trying to teach. This will help them understand the material you are going to explain.____17____That is important because being able to apply what we learn is essential to acquiring new knowledge.

And if you are questioning someone, be aware that a gesture may unavoidably influence them to tell you what you want to hear rather than give their own unbiased (无偏见的) answer.
Gesture more when you speak. It will help you learn and understand, and also think in a more abstract (抽象的) way. If you gesture while talking, you will remember more of what you have said.____20____What’s more, when you gesture, the people around you tend to do so too. My dad, John, was a basketball fan. He played in college and even coached a local youth team for a few years. His love for the game was unbelievable, and some of my earliest memories are of us playing basketball in the nearby court. I’ve even seen old photos of him in his college days, a proud smile on his face as he held a basketball. But when it came to my own involvement in basketball, he was surprisingly positive that I should focus only on study. “Basketball won’t pay the bills,” he’d often say, a statement that always struck me as ironic (讽刺的) given how much he loved the sport.
I loved basketball too, and I was pretty good at it. My school coach, Coach Miller, saw potential in me and encouraged me to join the school team. He said I had a natural talent that could take me far if I trained hard. But my dad was against it. He believed that sports would distract me from my studies, and with the final exam around the corner, he didn’t want to take any chances. “Your future is in the classroom, not on the court,” he would insist, dashing my dreams of following in his athletic footsteps.
This tension between us reached a peak when my head teacher, Mrs. Williams, announced a school basketball tournament (联赛). It was a big deal; students from the whole city would come to watch. My friends were excited, and even some teachers were talking about it. However, I knew I couldn’t participate without my dad’s approval. It felt like an invisible chain holding me back, a conflict between my passion and his expectations.
Then something unexpected happened. Mrs. Williams called my dad for a meeting. I was nervous but also hopeful. Mrs. Williams was not just an educator; she was also a parent and understood the balance between academics and extracurricular activities. She had seen students succeed in both, and I hoped she could convince my dad.
After the meeting, my dad seemed to be in deep thought. He didn’t speak immediately, taking his time as if weighing his words carefully. Finally, he broke the silence, “Mrs. Williams made some good points about teamwork and discipline. Maybe it’s time to rethink my stance (立场) on you playing basketball.”
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
I was thrilled but also cautious. “So, can I play in the tournament ” I asked.

8 What can we learn from the first paragraph
A. People can benefit more from solitude.
B. People tend to socialise more nowadays.
C. Being alone generally equals being lonely.
D. Being alone enables people to be carefree.
9. Which of the following best describes young Americans
A. Imaginative and wild. B. Responsible and energetic.
C. Optimistic and dutiful. D. Outgoing and sociable.
10. Why are most Chinese people more likely to live together
A. Because they share a specific culture.
B. Because they lack some local customs.
C. Because they possess enough home space.
D. Because they give priority to their own needs.
11. What’s the best title for the passage
A. The Essence of Self-care B. Enjoy Solitude, Enjoy Yourself
C. The Functions of Different Cultures D. The Perspectives on Solitude
【答案】8. B 9. D 10. A 11.

B. A brain disease leading to lack of confidence in study.

第二节(满分25分)
47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

【答案】参考范文:
I was thrilled but also cautious. “So, can I play in the tournament ” I asked. Dad met my gaze with a thoughtful expression before finally breaking into a nod. “Sure,” he said, “Playing in college and coaching that youth team were some of the best times of my life. I shouldn’t deprive you of the right to pursue your passion. ” The moment I heard dad’s words, I was so excited that I couldn’t help but spring to my feet. The tournament was super fun. We got to the finals, and I even made the last shot that won us the game. The crowd got all excited and started clapping and cheering.
As I scanned the audience, I spotted my dad. He was clapping, wearing a proud smile on his face. It was the same smile I had seen in old photos of him playing basketball. After the game, he enveloped me in a warm, tight embrace. “You did well, both on the court and in balancing your responsibilities. I’m proud of you.” As we strolled back home, it dawned on me that basketball had done more than just win me a game. It had bridged a generational gap, promoting mutual understanding between dad and me.
