7月一个阳光明媚、温暖的下午，小学教师麦克·霍伦(Mac Hollan)和朋友们从家里骑自行车去阿拉斯加。
他的一个朋友停下来修理自行车，但他们鼓励麦克继续干下去，他们很快就会赶上他。
麦克一个人骑着自行车(骑行)，他深情地想起了家里的妻子和两个年幼的女儿。

这时，麦克听到他身后急促而响亮的呼吸声。

但当他往旁边一看时，他马上发现那根本不是一条狗，而是一只狼，正在飞快地追上他。
麦克的心跳了起来。
他找到了他的防熊喷雾罐。
他一只手扶着栏杆，向狼喷了一枪。
一团鲜红的云笼罩着它，让麦克松了一口气的是，它摇着头，倒在了地上。
但一分钟后，它又来到了他的身边。
然后它攻击了麦克的自行车后座，扯开了他的帐篷包。
他向狼开了第二次枪，它又一次后退，但很快又重新开始追逐(追赶)。
麦克现在拼命蹬车。
他向过往的车辆挥手喊叫，但小心翼翼地不让它们减速。
他看到前面有一个陡峭的上坡路。
他知道一旦他上了山，他就很容易被抓住，狼的牙齿就会咬到他的肉。
这时，保罗和贝基正开车去阿拉斯加。
当他们看到两个骑自行车的人在路边修理他们的自行车时，他们没多想。
过了一会儿，他们发现了他们也以为是一条狗在一个骑自行车的人旁边跑。
当他们走近时，他们意识到那是一只狼。
麦克听到身后有一辆大汽车的声音。
当那只狼很快地追上来时，他把车停在了前面，现在只有十几码远了。
汽车突然停在他面前。
麦克跳下自行车，冲向车门。
但在麦克开门之前，狼已经追了上来，跳起来攻击。
幸运的是，神奇的喷雾第三次救了麦克的命。
