A year after Walt Disney made history with Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, its artists were struggling to find the right design for Bambi, the tale of a young deer. The film’s production team realized they needed a style that highlighted almost all of the leaves, flowers and mushrooms in their first feature-length animated(动画的)film.
Soon they got their inspiration from Tyrus Wong, whose work was on display as a new exhibit at New York City’s Museum. In 1938, the Walt Disney Studio hired him to draw the frames between the main drawings of the animators. After reading the story of Bambi, he saw an opportunity to break out of his humdrum job. He said to himself “This is all outdoor scenery. And I’m a landscape painter. This will be great!”
Inspired by Chinese landscape paintings, he used watercolor and pastels(蜡笔)to make sketches that bring the feeling of forest scenes with simple strokes of color and special attention to light and shadow. Wong’s sketches attracted Disney and became the guide for Bambi’s background artists, who were later trained to imitate his style. “His expression was a great leap forward for the medium,” writes John Lasseter, the chief creative officer for Walt Disney and Pixar Animation Studios. “Where other films were literal, Bambi was expressive and emotional.” In 2001,Wong was named “Disney Legend”, and he received the recognition as the true lead artist.
He pursued art all his life and still made art during his retirement, including toy animals from recycled materials and handmade kites that he regularly flew off the Santa Monica Pier in California. “People admire his works because of Bambi, but Bambi was just a really small part of his life,” says his youngest daughter. “He considers himself not a great artist but a lucky artist, who was at the right place at the right time.”
8. Why did Walt Disney’s artists notice Tyrus Wong
A. He was good at drawing cartoon characters.
B. He won a prize at a museum in New York.
C. His style was suitable for the animated film Bambi.
D. His work could be used to advertise Walt Disney’s films
9. What does John Lasseter think of Tyrus Wong’s paintings
A. They were literal and detailed.
B. They conveyed thoughts effectively.
C. They showed the legend of Walt Disney.
D. They displayed the progress of the medium.
10. What can we learn about Tyrus Wong from the last paragraph
A. He was devoted to art during his lifetime.
B. He had been busy his whole life.
C. He gave up art after retirement.
D. He liked to purchase toys and kites.
11. How does the author introduce Tyrus Wong
A. By analyzing cause and effect.

Research shows students learn better when they’re well nourished. Healthy eating has been linked to higher grades, better memory, faster information processing and improved health leading to better school attendance, according to registered dietitian Elisa Zied, author of Feed Your Family Right. On the contrary, unhealthy eating habits can negatively affect learning. Researchers have studied many areas related to eating and learning.
Skipping breakfast can have a negative impact on learning. A higher percentage of breakfast eaters passed a biology exam in one study of college students. It’s also important to eat a high-quality breakfast. In a study of students between the ages of twelve and thirteen, the average mark increased as breakfast quality improved.
Even with breakfast, the brain can run out of fuel before lunch. In one study of students between the ages of seven and nine, having a mid-morning snack improved memory. The children who ate a smaller breakfast and lunch but consumed a mid-morning snack experienced a smaller decline in immediate and delayed memory. Attention wasn’t affected, however. Zied recommends yogurt with blueberries; this fruit has been proven to be linked to better memory in studies. A hard-boiled egg is also a good snack choice.
Kids who eat healthily are more likely to attend school. Without proper nutrition and adequate calories, students often don’t have enough energy to power the brain, resulting in tiredness and learning problems. In fact, alertness (机敏) improved significantly in students eating breakfast in one study of high school students published in the journal Pediatrics.
A study of public school students published in the Journal of School Health linked high intake of sweetened drinks, such as sugary sodas, to lower scores in math tests. A diet high in junk food and sugary sodas is also linked to childhood obesity, which could result in lower cognitive (认知的) functioning, according to the Yale University research. On the other hand, students with healthy eating habits are less likely to be overweight and more likely to learn well.
12. What is an effective way for students to improve their memory
A. Eating a big lunch on a regular basis. B. Staying away from junk food in daily life.
C. Eating something healthy at about 10: 00 am. D. Adding yogurt with strawberries to their daily diet.
13. What can we learn from the fourth paragraph
A. Students will have better attendance at school after eating healthily.
B. Students will have a good performance as long as they are well fed.
C. A high-quality breakfast will make a difference to students’ learning.
D. Every student has a strong awareness of eating breakfast.
14. What would happen to students who eat much junk food
A. They would become less confident at school. B. They would grow too overweight to work out.
C. They would become unwilling to attend school. D. They would fall behind other students at school.
15. What does the passage mainly talk about
A. The advantages of healthy eating habits. B. The impacts of eating habits on students’ learning.
C. Some suggestions on how to learn better. D. The link between diets and health.

An impossible peace
Once upon a time, on a piece of land there lived giants and dragons, who had been enemies for years on end. However, after years of bloody fights, they had learned a lot. They were no longer so foolish as to wage wars with terrible battles in which thousands died. Now, every year they held bowling matches instead. A giant competed against a dragon. Whoever lost would become the winner’s slave. If a dragon won, he could use the giant’s muscles for all that heavy lifting. If a giant won, he would have free flights and fire for the whole year.
That was how they prevented their deaths and yet with the match going round and round, they hated each other more and more. Every year the winners were so cruel to the losers, in revenge (报复) for the time they had lost. The losers would be at the mercy of the winners, giants tired from lifting loads while dragons worn out from constant flying and breathing fire. There came a time when what mattered most was not winning the bowling match, but not losing.
Yonk the Giant was the best bowler, and the most afraid. He had never lost. Many dragons had been his slaves and they were dying to see him lose so they could get their revenge. This was why Yonk was terrified of losing. Especially since last year’s match, when he missed his first ever strike, he had decided that something had to change.
The following year he won again. When he arrived home, his slave dragon feared the worst but Yonk did nothing bad to him, for he had a different idea in mind.
“This year you will not be my slave. We will go bowling and I will teach you all of my techniques and secrets. But you must promise me one thing: when you win your match next year, you will not be cruel to your giant. Do the same as I am doing with you.”
注意:

A year after Walt Disney made history with Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, its artists were struggling to find the right design for Bambi, the tale of a young deer. The film’s production team realized they needed a style that highlighted almost all of the leaves, flowers and mushrooms in their first feature-length animated(动画)film.

I wish to make a suggestion about starting a school art gallery.
There are many students who are good at painting in our school. The school art gallery can provide these students with a very good platform to display their own paintings, offer them a chance to admire the artistic achievements and the development of school culture. If you were to offer such an opportunity to the students who are fond of art, I believe they would give you a big surprise.

注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
The dragon gladly accepted.
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Much later Yonk lost his first bowling match but he was no longer afraid of losing.
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
One possible version:
The dragon gladly accepted. Yonk kept his promise and he spent the entire year without flying or warming himself with the dragon’s fire breathing. The dragon also kept his promise and both did exactly the same every year afterwards. Yonk’s idea became so popular that within just a few years, many giants and dragons were spending their days bowling together. They forgot about their battles and cruelty and treated each other as friends rather than enemies.
Much later Yonk lost his first bowling match but he was no longer afraid of losing. Because he knew in his heart that there would be no more revenge since he had been friends with his “dragon slaves”. By putting a stop to the enslavement of dragons, he had ended their hatred and sowed the seeds of almost impossible peace between giants and dragons. Building true peace requires those who feel they have the right to attack to take steps towards forgiveness and understanding.

结束:end sth / bring sth to an end

Building true peace requires those who feel they have the right to attack to take steps towards forgiveness and understanding.
