According to the survey conducted in our school, 43% of the students prefer to read science books, followed by comic readers, which accounts for 26%. 18% of the students enjoy reading sports and music books while 13% of the students like to read classics.
It is encouraging to see so many students reading regularly, as reading can improve comprehension skills and cultivate imagination(it作形式主语,to see作真正的主语,as引导原因状语从句). However, we should also encourage students to read books outside their comfort zone to broaden their horizons and explore new perspectives.
From my point of view, I suggest our school organize book clubs or reading groups, where students can discuss and share their thoughts(where引导的非限制性定语从句). It can stimulate their curiosity and critical thinking and enhance their social skills.

In this picture is the only tree stump left in perhaps a big forest(倒装句). What is attached to it is seemingly a piece of paper, which implies the forest was destroyed to make paper(非限制性定语从句). Consequently, the soil became extremely dry, unable to support life any more. The Chinese characters here mean it takes years to grow a tree but a second to consume it.
Therefore, I believe the picture is meant to urge us to take action immediately to protect forests in the interests of both nature and humans(目的状语). If every individual saves some paper, eventually a big difference will be made!

Dear humans,
I'm a polar bear, your big and white friend in the north. Facing the challenge of losing precious ice land, I am writing to ask you for some ways out.
With the development of industry and cities, climate has been worsening. As the planet warms, it becomes harder for us to get food. Thus, recent years have witnessed many of my peers' death. The loss of our species is the loss of yours. I sincerely beg for your immediate actions to protect our common home—the Earth. Only if you take strong measures, can wild animals, like me, be preserved and it is not until then that we will make a better home together(部分倒装;"it is not until...that"强调句型).

Labor class, part of our school courses, is required in primary and middle schools every week. The new course stresses the importance of labor education since it strengthens students' awareness of labor and develops their practical skills(since引导原因状语从句).
Now the labor course varies from cooking to planting, of which I like planting most. Such a specific topic can always interest me because it offers me opportunities to endure hardships and get close to nature. When I'm involved in the planting process, the cycle of sowing, fertilizing and harvesting can bring me a sense of satisfaction and achievement, so I really consider it the best way to relax myself(不定式作后置定语).

Distinguished judges and dear fellow students,
It's my honor to stand here and talk about "Promoting traditional Chinese festivals". As we all know, traditional Chinese festivals are an important part of Chinese culture. Firstly, traditional Chinese festivals teach us a lot about our nation's history. Moreover, they enable us to learn about fine Chinese values, thus helping us pass them down.
Therefore, promoting traditional festivals is high on the agenda(当务之急). Declaring public holidays on some traditional festivals is undoubtedly a good way to raise people's awareness of these festivals. Besides, schools can hold more activities to help draw students' attention to our tradition.
Only with the joint efforts can traditional Chinese festivals be really promoted(部分倒装).

创新精神[2023山东烟台诊断性测试]With the start of new school, freshmen of Hendersonville High School in Nashville were excited to meet new classmates and teachers. Among them, however,15-year-old Sergio Peralta was feeling very nervous because his right hand had never fully formed since he was born. Going to a new school and being "different" were always scary. Sergio was particularly concerned with what his classmates would think of him.
Sergio's parents had trained him to use his left hand from an early age. As he grew up, he was used to not using his right hand. He could write with his left one and do some things with special tricks or techniques. Despite this, on the first days of new school, Sergio always felt like hiding his underdeveloped right hand in his sleeve as if nobody would ever find out if he did so.
It didn't take long for someone to learn Sergio's secret. Jeff Wilkins, the teacher of Sergio's engineering class, figured out that Sergio was missing part of his hand and decided to do something for the new student. Jeff had been leading a robotics project in the school and expert in 3D printing technology. Besides, he hoped to take advantage of this hands-on chance to help his robotics students learn more about engineering and how a robotic hand worked.
So in his class, Jeff announced with great enthusiasm, "You're supposed to come up with new ideas and solve issues. Now Sergio needs a new hand, so we'll work together to build Sergio a robotic hand." His words
fueled everyone's curiosity and creativity.
For the next four weeks, Jeff and his class including Sergio worked on the project. After some precise measurements and researches, the class put forward a design draft. Jeff made a few adjustments and gave them some practical suggestions. With access to online models and a 3D printer, they eventually created a robotic hand, which was intended to look good and work well, like catching something.

The life-changing gift for Sergio drew huge attention. Jeff and his students became an instant hit and various media competed to cover the news. When interviewed about the intention of the project, Jeff said, "I intended Sergio's robotic hand to show our support for him. Meanwhile, I hope to foster students' scientific spirit through this hands-on operation." 环境保护[2023山东青岛适应性检测(一)]Melati and Isabel deeply love their home on the island, surrounded by tropical rain forests, green fields, and a vast ocean. Enjoying a swim in the waters was once a daily pleasure for them. But when Melati was fifteen, and Isabel just ten, the sisters started to lose their enthusiasm for swimming in the waters near their home. More often than not, plastic bags would be around them as they swam and some were scattered on the beach. They got really upset about that.
Melati didn't think much about it until one day her teacher gave a lesson on some world heroes. Each of those people had sparked movements of positive changes in the world. They believed in the impact they could have and they did inspire more people to do something meaningful. After school, Melati walked home slowly in silence, concerned about the vast amount of plastic rubbish on the beach. The heroes crossed her mind. "If they could do it, we could do it too," she thought. The idea lit her up. She couldn't wait to share what she thought with Isabel and quickened her pace.
"So many plastic bags around! The beach is dirty and messy! It's so terrible! We have lost the clean and beautiful beach. Can't we do something to get it back " Melati said heartily. Isabel felt a bit puzzled at what to do, but she also had a strong desire to do something. Picturing a beach as fascinating as before in mind, the pair jumped with joy.
They talked a lot, anxious to know how Dad and Mom would respond to their ideas. That night when the
family sat by the dinner table, the sisters eagerly got their ideas across. When Mom and Dad listened to the girls carefully, their eyes shone. "How amazing that would be! We are so proud of you!" Dad exclaimed. Mom came up, gave them the thumbs up and hugged the sisters.
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
Melati and Isabel decided to make a positive impact straight away.

亲子关系[2023江苏涟水县第一中学阶段检测]School was over, the day was fading and it started to rain. I stood at the school gate, with a loaded backpack on my shoulders. It was Friday again—a weekend of joy with unlimited sleeping hours and dinner courses specially made to my taste. I waved goodbye to my friends as they jumped into their fathers' warm and comfortable cars. Curiously, this gave rise to a disturbing feeling in me. It was not exactly what they called jealousy(嫉妒), but something like depression. I knew all I could expect was an old bike Mom would ride along on, with the badly-oiled chain creaking against the wheel to announce her arrival.
Every Friday when Mom came to pick me up, it was a moment full of great exception and great unease. I always felt my face burning as we rode our way in and out of the cars and saw my friends' faces sticking out of the car windows. It was like stepping into a ballroom with beautifully dressed ladies and finding myself in a smelly T-shirt.
To tell you the truth, Mom is quite a headache occasionally. She looks like a homely middle-aged housewife. She knits(编织) most of my sweaters, chiefly in old styles. Whenever caught by some curious classmates asking what brand my sweaters are, I'd force a smile and reply in a half-joking manner: homemade. She simply doesn't seem to understand what's in fashion.
I couldn't remember when I started to find her such an embarrassment. As a little boy, I relied on her so much. She had been working at home, cooking in the kitchen, knitting by the lamp, or riding across town to buy
me a book I badly needed. It had always been fun riding with her. I had enjoyed watching our shadows growing longer and shorter by the light of the streetlamps along the road. Just now there seemed to be something standing between us, which made her so strange to me and me to her.
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
Today Mom showed up in a raincoat.
Mom tried to cover me with the raincoat again as a storm set in.
Today Mom showed up in a raincoat"可知,妈妈穿着雨衣出现了,据此可知,该段重点描写作者见到妈妈后的尴尬场景。 Mom tried to cover me with the raincoat again"可知,本段还应写出作者妈妈用雨衣盖住作者的情景。
Mom tried to cover me with the raincoat again as a storm set in"可知,妈妈再次用雨衣将作者盖住。
Today Mom showed up in a raincoat. Once she saw me(时间状语从句), Mom called my name excitedly. Almost everybody present looked in her direction. I swallowed hard and fixed my stare on the middle of the road, sweat forming in tiny droplets on my forehead(独立主格结构). When she tried to cover me with the back of her raincoat(时间状语从句), I simply threw it aside. In silence, I shot her a blaming glance and threw my
backpack heavily into the front basket of the bike. Without a single word, I jumped onto the back seat.
Mom tried to cover me with the raincoat again as a storm set in. Reluctantly, I pulled it over. With the wind roaring angrily and the raincoat dancing(with复合结构), it felt warm and secure inside. Mom bent forward and pedaled with all her strength, her waist twitching with tension(独立主格结构). I started to feel guilty about my coldness, tears welling up in my eyes(独立主格结构). Quietly, I put my hands around Mom's waist and gently pressed my face against her back. In the crying wind and pouring rain, I found myself hugging my mother(find+宾语+动词-ing形式作宾补), tighter than ever.

凸显"体育"[2023河北石家庄质检]I yawned(打哈欠) as I got off the last step of the bus. I had woken early that morning, and had not been able to sleep on the long ride, thinking about that day's race. I had never raced in a statewide race before. Over thirty high school teams ran, along with quite a few colleges. The rest of my team and I unloaded the bus, and we relaxed and waited for our race patiently.
"Start warming up, " our coach told us, roughly forty-five minutes after we arrived. After finishing our stretches, we headed over to the starting line, eager for the race to begin.
The starter walked to the middle of the field. There will be two commands, he boomed, "Runners set, then the gun. If you hear another shot, return to the starting line to start again. " My heart raced as I got my legs ready to race.
"Runners set!" the starter shouted. Bam! The gun fired, and he rushed out of our way. Adrenaline (肾上腺素) rushed through my body as I raced through the mass of runners. As I rounded the first turn, my schoolmates greeted me with heartening shouts. Then, in what felt like only one minute, I arrived at the one mile mark.
"6′10", " a man declared as I ran by. I tried to ignore him, but my legs began to burn as I realized I had run a mile and still had two to go. I slowed down my pace, for I knew the second mile was the worst of all three. Minutes later, I felt horrible. My legs ached, feeling like lead blocks. My vision was clouded as sweat dropped down into my eyes, and my arms felt as if they would fall off if I swung them one more time. Just as I almost
reached my limit, a boy passed me. He also seemed to have lost strength but soon he was a little ahead of me.
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
I gathered up my strength to speed up but suddenly fell to the ground.
In the last mile, seeing the athletes passing us one by one, I asked the boy to run without me.
In the last mile, seeing the athletes passing us one by one, I asked the boy to run without me"可知,超过作者的男孩帮助作者跑完了第二英里。
In the last mile, seeing the athletes passing us one by one, I asked the boy to run without me"和常识可知,到了决定名次最关键的最后一英里,作者应该会让超过他的男孩丢下自己,努力去争取好名次。

"Now I'm hungry. I know where there's a great apple tree," Sista said."It belongs to an old lady called Susan who lives in the little house by the hill. I heard she's stubborn, but that sometimes she gives fruit in return for an errand(差事)."
"Let's go," Rafi said. They crossed a stream by hopping from rock to rock. Finally, upon a hilltop, they saw a splendid apple tree with bright red fruits.
A small farmhouse stood at the bottom of the hill. Rafi's heart pounded as Sista knocked on the door. An elderly woman answered.
"Yes " the lady asked, staring at the girls.
"We heard..." said Sista, her voice shaky, "that we could run an errand for you in exchange for apples."
Susan raised one eyebrow. "Ah, yes," she clicked her tongue. "Nothing is free, eh "
She led the girls into the kitchen. When passing the living room, Sista found that the wall was decorated with colourful crayon drawings, which seemed to be children's. She wondered who drew these since Susan was alone, with no grandchildren, even no families or relatives. The lady grabbed two baskets, one large and one
small, and pushed them into the girls' hands. "Go fill these with e right back."
The girls raced up the hill to the tree, climbed the branches, and picked the ripest apples. After filling the baskets, they returned to the house.
Susan filled a bag with rice and dried beans, and then she handed it to Sista."Take this bag and the large basket of apples to the Gomez family. Do you know them "
The girls nodded. Sista had heard that Mr. Gomez had been sick in bed for a long time and that Mrs.Gomez had to raise three little kids.
"Good. And ask them for the payment," Susan added with a tight smile.

Finally, they arrived at the Gomez's home, sweating like a pig(现在分词短语作伴随状语). Mrs. Gomez answered the door. The girls held up the food and said, "This is from Susan." Mrs. Gomez replied, "Thank you." Susan finished, she joined the girls again. "And here's your payment(完全倒装句)," she said, handing the small basket of apples to the girls(现在分词短语作状语). As they walked home(as 引导时间状语从句), Rafi and Sista enjoyed their treat. The juice was as sweet and warm as the feeling they had inside(省略关系词的定语从句).

充满正能量[2023湖北十一校联考]I first became conscious of my body image last year in fifth grade. One day I was walking by my mirror getting ready for bed and I noticed that my stomach looked big. I started to really hate that and think I was fat even though my family always told me how skinny I was. It wasn't only my stomach—I started to think my nose was ugly and that my laugh was disgusting. I was even afraid to laugh or smile in public.
Then, in the sixth grade, a popular guy in my class named Luke made it worse. He told his table group that my body looked swollen in skinny jeans. I heard about it from someone else, but then Luke even told me to my face! I couldn't stop thinking about what Luke had said. Even worse, I started to believe it was true, and I hid my skinny jeans all the way at the bottom of my drawer.
I know I cared too much about what other people said and thought about me. I guess I just wanted to be liked. In fact, I really wish I could have just brushed off comments like that, but I couldn't change my personality and what I cared about that easily.
Luke's mean comment affected me in a big way. I lost confidence in more than just my body—I started to think that I didn't matter and that I didn't have a place in the world. To make it worse, some people also started telling me that I was not meant to be an author, which is what I really want to be. That especially hurt and I started to feel really sad all the time.
I hadn't really told anyone how I'd been feeling until a couple of months ago when I got a call from my cousin. I'm really close to her, and hearing her voice and laugh made me feel so good inside. I thought about how I used to be that way too, and how I was so sick of feeling sad.
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
Then I started telling her and it all came out.
When I went back to my bedroom, I looked at myself in the mirror for a long time.
Then I started telling her and it all came out"可知,在续写第一段,同学们可就表姐听了作者的倾诉后的反应进行描写。 When I went back to my bedroom, I looked at myself in the mirror for a long time"可知,在表姐的帮助下,作者开始正确审视自己。
When I went back to my bedroom, I looked at myself in the mirror for a long time"可知,续写第二段应该描述作者发现自己的特长或者美丽的过程,最后注意适当升华主题:相信自己,正确对待别人的评价。
Then I started telling her and it all came out. She seemed so surprised and said how special I was(how引导宾语从句). She started listing all my good qualities, saying I shouldn't listen to people who said mean things because they were probably just feeling bad about themselves or trying to look cool(现在分词短语作伴随状语,who引导定语从句,because引导原因状语从句). Definitely, she added that I shouldn't let them tell me how to feel about myself or my body. It was like a sudden wake-up call:focusing on what other people thought of
me only made things even worse, and I must learn to love and accept myself for who I am(动名词短语作主语;what引导宾语从句;who引导宾语从句).
When I went back to my bedroom, I looked at myself in the mirror for a long time. I saw what I had never seen in myself before(what引导宾语从句), like my nice grey eyes, my cute smile, and the fact that I am beautiful in my own way(that引导同位语从句). I know some people might still make hurtful comments again, and sometimes I may feel like I am fat again, but next time I will be prepared. I will only think well of myself even when I am feeling sad, and stand up for myself when someone puts me down. In my eyes, I am perfect myself—no one can change that.

"五育"并举[2023江苏南通市崇川区等5地适应性考试(一)]Steve grabbed his bat and glove. "See you later, Mom. I'm going to Paul's." He raced out the door and slammed it behind him. Summer vacation just began. The boys planned to play baseball every day so they could make the freshman team.
Paul was waiting outside for Steve. "What are you doing Where's your stuff " Steve lifted his bat onto his shoulder when catching sight of Paul.
Paul shook his head unhappily. "I have to clean Mr Thompson's garage before I can go. With his broken arm, he can't do it himself. My mom always volunteers me for helping the Thompsons. They're kind of old."
"OK," said Steve. "I'll help you. We'll get done quicker working together."
The boys went down the block to the Thompson's and got started. They found a couple of brooms and shovels(铲). Before they swept, they put boxes that were strewn(遍布) around the garage floor on shelves. As Paul put a big box on a shelf, it fell off and with it fell an envelope. He picked it up. It wasn't sealed, so he opened it. There were lots of one-hundred-dollar bills.
"You've got to see this." He pulled out a handful of bills and showed Steve with his eyes lit up. "Where did you get that " said Steve. Paul pointed to the shelf. "It just fell down when the box fell. There's got to be a couple of thousand boxes falling. There's got to be a couple of thousand dollars here. If we take some, I bet no one will ever know."
Steve furrowed his brow(皱眉) and shook his head. "Are you crazy That's stealing." "Well, I do a lot of chores for them and don't get paid. It's not really stealing; it's a kind of payment for my hard work," Paul insisted. At that time, Steve was about to grab the money from Paul's hand when they heard a sound.

A few minutes later, they were served with large slices of cake. Delicious as the cake was(as引导的让步状语从句), they didn't have any appetite. Mrs Thompson seemed to notice something was wrong, "Boys, do you like the cake " Paul nodded with his eyes dropping to avoid any eye contact and growing guilt crept into his heart.
When they were about to leave, Mrs Thompson handed Paul a brand-new bat and glove. Paul looked at
them, his face blushing with shame. "Th... thanks so much." Voice trembling(独立主格结构), Paul then bravely poured out everything about the envelope and gave back the money he had hidden before, apologizing for his stealing. However, Mrs Thompson, instead of boiling with anger, came up to Paul, and said gently, "Oh, thank you for helping me find the envelope. I totally forgot where I had put it." In that split second, it dawned on him that what really matters is simple honesty and simple kindness.

She rolled over and glanced at the clock on the wall—it was already nine o'clock.Every weekend morning, her mother had to work part-time in the cafe. Although Joan was still sleepy, she knew she had to get up. After all, she didn't expect her brother Mike, who was sleeping like a log, to hear the phone. She quietly went over to the living room. When she picked up the receiver, on the other end came the warmhearted greetings,"Good morning, my dear!"Recognizing the voice from her father, Joan was immediately surrounded by a sense of joy and the sleepiness swept away.

Bob was a short child who preferred indoor to outdoor activities. He was mild-mannered and mostly kept to himself. Sitting in the corner of the class, he was very much a loner.
At the beginning of the semester, Bob had a new classmate, Alex, who had just returned to England. Alex was assigned a seat next to Bob. To his surprise, within weeks, he became good friends with Alex even though they were poles apart in personality. Alex was popular, outspoken and artistic. "Alex is all that I want to be," Bob thought to himself. He began listening to the music Alex listened to and having a similar haircut. He even quit his drama club and started playing the online games that Alex played. He seemed to have been out of his loneliness.
It was not long before Bob was introduced to Alex's "cool" friends. He told himself that he would try all means to be part of the group. He would follow them to the football games and join the art club after school so he could spend more time hanging out with them. Bob followed them around laughing when they told jokes, agreeing when they had opinions—most enthusiastically with the ones he disagreed with. He did not dare to differ in opinions as he would not want them to think badly of him. This continued for several months. At last, Bob felt relieved that he had finally fitted in.
One day, Bob overheard Alex and his cool friends talking. "Bob is such a loser," one boy commented in a
playful tone. "He just follows you around trying to be you. He copies you; he does not have a personality of his own!" another boy exclaimed. Alex laughed. To make matters worse, he added, "That fellow wears me out. I wish he would leave me alone. He thinks we are best friends. A thorough fool!"

Bob stood still on the ground and could not believe his ears. Trembling and sobbing, he collapsed on the ground, feeling lonely and betrayed. He had no choice but to cry all the way back home. Seeing his mother, he couldn't conceal his sorrow, pouring the incident out to her, who would always be there for him whenever he felt down(who引导非限制性定语从句). Stroking her trembling boy, the mother said gently, "Just be yourself, Son! People will like you for who you are." Bob had heard the remarks a million times before, yet he never truly got the point. Suddenly, it all clicked.
Bob decided to change himself after hearing his mother's words. He bought a new schoolbag and chose a haircut he fancied. He dropped his art class and joined the drama club. He made new friends who liked him for
who he was. He rediscovered himself. If he had not been given the chance, he might have been too concerned with "fitting in" desperately to experience some of the "best" times of his life. It dawned on him that despite the pain he felt that day, it was a gift they had given him, which taught him to be himself(that引导主语从句;which引导非限制性定语从句).

When I was little, I used to walk with my grandmother on a quiet and small road that crossed the street on which she and my grandfather lived. My grandfather rarely joined us. He was a seemingly strict man, an ex-soldier who usually guarded his emotions, especially his affection. He wasn't a man who hugged me often when I was a child, but I had never doubted his love for me.
Grandma and I would walk, hand in hand, moving at an equal pace. The sun would be shining; the birds would be singing. We would chat about this and that, or just walk in silence, enjoying the outdoors and each other's company. Yet, for me, these times were not just a chance to get some exercise and be with my grandmother, though both were important. These walks were treasure hunts.
More often than not, at the road's edge, there would be money. Not lots of it—1 cent here, 5 cents there. Sometimes, on really lucky days, I'd find 10 cents or even 25. I'd pick up these circles, proudly show Grandma and joyfully put them into my pockets. Some days, I wouldn't find anything. "Maybe next time," my grandmother would say. Other days, I'd come back from our walk with more than twenty-five cents to put in my piggy bank, or to buy candies—a treat for a six-year-old child.
Looking back now, it wasn't even the money that was such a big deal; it was the joy of discovery. It was the hope of finding something small left or forgotten along the side of the road. It made me feel so lucky, and so special. Yet, it wasn't until years later, when I was in my late twenties, that the simple memory meant much
more to me than simply the happiness of a child. It was my mother who told me the secret which brought a whole new meaning to my experience.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
"Remember you used to walk with Grandma and find money " Mother asked.
Now, I would do the same thing my grandfather did.
Yet, it wasn't until years later, when I was in my late twenties, that the simple memory meant much more to me than simply the happiness of a child. It was my mother who told me the secret which brought a whole new meaning to my experience"可知,接下来作者的母亲会告诉作者她小时候在路上捡到钱的真相。
"Remember you used to walk with Grandma and find money " Mother asked. "All those years," she said, "your grandfather drove up and down the walking route, dropping change for you to find(现在分词短语作状语)." I was amazed. I remembered how he'd smile when I dug my finds out of my pocket to show him(宾语从
句,其中包含一个时间状语从句), but I'd always thought he was just happy about my luck. I'd never imagined that he was the one responsible for it. It turned out that he had given me joy in the way I hadn't even connected to him.
Now, I would do the same thing my grandfather did. Every once in a while, as I take a walk down the street(时间状语从句), I drop a cent or two, or maybe even 25, and watch the money roll on the street. I picture some small children finding it, pleased with the discovery(形容词短语作状语). They'll never know someone put it there on purpose for them to find. But that's part of the joy and a precious memory. Thanks, Grandfather.

[2023福建漳州质检(三)]The day when the jobs were handed out was one of the most exciting for all the children in the class. It took place during the first week of the term. On that day, every boy and girl was given a job for which they would be responsible for the rest of that school year.
As everything else, some jobs were more interesting, and the children were eager to be given one of the interesting ones. When giving them out, the teacher took into account which children had been most responsible during the previous year, and those children were usually the ones who most looked forward to this day. Among them Rita stood out. She was a kind and quiet girl; and during the previous year she had carried out the teacher's instructions perfectly. All the children knew Rita was the favourite to be given the best job of all—to look after the class dog.
But this year there was a big surprise. Each child received one of the normal jobs, like preparing the books or the radio for the lessons, telling the time, cleaning the blackboard, and looking after one of the pets. But Rita's job was very different. She was given a little box containing some sand and some ants. And even though the teacher insisted that they were very special ants, Rita couldn't help feeling disappointed. Anyway, she accepted the task. Most of her classmates felt sorry for her. They sympathised with her and remarked on how unfair it was that she had been given that job. Even Rita's father felt sorry for her, and as an act of protest, he
told Rita to pay no attention to this insignificant pet. However, Rita, who liked her teacher very much, preferred to show the teacher her ability by doing something special with such an insignificant task. "I will turn this little task into something great," Rita said to herself.

Rita became fascinated by the ants and started studying them with great interest. She observed their behavior, their interactions, and their construction of tunnels and mounds. She even started a small ant farm at home, carefully monitoring the growth and development of the colony. Rita realized that her seemingly insignificant task was actually a great opportunity to learn and explore the wonders of nature(that引导的宾语从句).

[2023湖北武汉调研]Amanda lived in a big modern city. Due to the high-speed development of economy, families from different backgrounds came here to find a better life. Amanda's classmate and friend, Rama, was from one of those families.
One day after school, Amanda and Rama were chatting and Rama mentioned how much she missed her friends and hometown. "It is hard to leave," Rama sighed, "but my family needed to be somewhere that is easier to make a living. Holding Rama's hands, Amanda encouraged her to share more and she knew Rama loved to sing and dance with her friends in her hometown.
After learning about Rama's story, Amanda started to notice more students like Rama in her school. For the first time she realized that those students looked sad in their eyes. Sometimes because of their different accents, they couldn't communicate well with others, which made them always sit or stand silently at the back of the classroom.
"They are having a hard time. We should show them kindness and love!" she told her mother one day. Amanda asked her mother what she could do to help make them feel welcome. Amanda's mother suggested, "What about using art Maybe it will be easier to communicate through art." Amanda thought for a while and nodded. Like her friend Rama, Amanda loved all forms of art, like painting, singing, dancing, and performing, through which she could tell different stories about her family, and her life.
The next day, Amanda went to the Activity Center in her school and proposed her plan of an art show. The officer thought it a great idea. Inspired and excited, Amanda set about her plan with several friends. At the Activity Center they filled a room with paper, paint and pencils. They even made a small stage!
On a winter Sunday good for skiing, Sue arrived at the holiday chalet(棚屋)with joy. Sue's skis were sticking out behind her. Mark, another skier, tripped over Sue's skis. Before Sue could apologize, Mark shouted, "Your skis are in the way. You've got big smelly feet!" In view of his attitude, Sue ignored him. Mark lost face and was angrier.
The ski lift took all the skiers to the top of the mountain. The hard snow of the piste(滑雪道) was below them. Then Sue skied down the mountain. As a good skier, she didn't fall over. Mark, along with his good friend David, was watching her with envy and anger. They were also good skiers but they didn't know Sue very well. "She's good," David said."But we're better," Mark responded with dissatisfaction.
The young people skied all day. They enjoyed themselves and forgot everything. On Wednesday morning, the young people were waiting for the ski lift when their teacher announced a ski race. The race would be arranged on the last day of the holiday on a long and difficult ten-kilometer piste. Everybody wanted to win! They went up the mountain, put on their skis and skied down the piste, practicing for the race. Sue skied fast, and so did Mark and David. Obviously, these three became powerful opponents.
It was Saturday and the race was going to be held in the afternoon. Sue was hungry and left her skis at the side of a cafe. She sat down and ordered lunch. Later, David and Mark came in. They also headed to the side to put their skis there. Mark noticed Sue's skis and aimed a kick angrily at them. Then he found a screw(螺丝) on
Sue's ski was loose, unsure whether it was caused by the force or it was like that originally. "Sue's skis won't work. We're sure to win," Mark said and pointed. They smiled knowingly at each other.
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
Finally came the time of the race and everyone was excited.
Maybe feeling guilty or nervous, Mark made a mistake and fell down when Sue approached him.

Finally came the time of the race and everyone was excited"可知,续写的第一段重点描述三人参加滑雪比赛的过程,根据所给材料尾段倒数第三句中"Then he found a screw(螺丝) on Sue's ski was loose"可知,该段描述滑雪板螺丝松动给Sue带来的不利情况,结合续写第二段提示句中的"Sue approached him"可知,Sue解决了滑雪板螺丝松动的问题,并即将超越Mark。
Maybe feeling guilty or nervous,Mark made a mistake and fell down when Sue approached him"可知,续写第二段应该重点描述Sue处理Mark摔倒的过程和他们是怎样成为好友并赢得人们掌声的。

Finally came the time of the race and everyone was excited. With the referee saying "Get set, go"(with复合结构), all skiers raced down. Unsurprisingly, Sue fell over seconds later. Noticing the loose screw(现在分词短语作伴随状语), she slid across the snow and off the piste. During this period, David and Mark skied past. Mark shouted to David, "We're going to win." Luckily, it was not a tough problem for Sue. She quickly tightened the screw, made an examination of the rest and skied again. Minutes later, she was ahead of most
competitors. Now, the only one before her was Mark, whom she was determined to beat(非限制性定语从句).
Maybe feeling guilty or nervous, Mark made a mistake and fell down when Sue approached him. Seeing Mark struggled to stand up, Sue stopped and gave him a pull. Much astonished, Mark murmured, "Thank you." Sue left with a wave of the hand. Two players passed just at the moment. Sue sped up with all her strength. Soon she crossed the finish line first. "Congratulations!" Mark came to Sue. "I should apologize for my words and behavior." Knowing what had happened(现在分词短语作伴随状语,what引导宾语从句), Sue was a little angry, but anyway, it was in the past."Never mind. 话题:适应新学校 主题语境:人与自我 难度:★★★★☆
My dad got a new job. We had to pack up and move away from everything we were familiar with. There were so many changes. We came from the north, and now we were almost as far south as possible. We landed in South Florida, and we were total strangers. We moved over the summer vacation, so I didn't have to deal with school right away. Summer passed by when we unpacked, arranged furniture, found stores we liked, and adapted to the Sunshine State.
School was coming, and I was afraid of it. I was not an adventurous person. Being shy and quiet, I read a lot and did not make friends easily. My head was filled with fears and worries. Would I make friends Would I fit in Would I survive in this strange new world Anyway, there I was, attending a new school full of people I didn't know.
I had a difficult time adapting to the new school. However, I still loved learning and reading. I even loved homework, and I was good at doing my homework. Loving books and reading helped me to get good grades. Teachers loved that about me. Other kids, though, did not. Although I always answered questions in class, I seldom talked with them. I was unpopular. I felt like a total failure and nobody would like me.
Then one day, a tall boy walked over to me after English class. He introduced himself and told me he was in the school basketball team. I knew him—he was the star player! "Hey," he said. "You do really well in English class. And you know, my teammates and I spend much time competing and practising. The subjects,
especially English, really bother us. Do you think you could help us " "Yes. Oh, definitely yes. I could, and I would," I replied with surprise. We made the deal with an exchange of smiles.

[2023湖北武汉武昌区质检]Madison stared through the window and watched a bird fly across the sky. She thought, "How I wish I were a bird, with total freedom and no math class to sit in." She sighed and wondered how warm it was outside. She thought of her horse, Star. She planned to brush him down before riding him after school. Somewhere, someone was saying her name, but it seemed so far away. The bird continued to float through the air.
"Madison, Madison! Hand in the math homework! "
Madison jumped. She turned back toward the class to find everyone laughing. It turned out that she was daydreaming again.
Madison searched her schoolbag, but found no homework. Mr. Smith was about to criticize her when Doctor Landon came in. He was a veterinarian(兽医) and would deliver a speech as part of the Career Exploration Program.
Madison looked at the clock. One more hour and it would be time to go home.
She tried to focus as Doctor Landon talked about how important math and science were and how he struggled with them when he was a kid. She glanced out of the window and tried to remember where she left her riding boots. Doctor Landon was still talking but she lost track of what he was saying. Then a word caught her attention. Horse. Was he talking about horses She paid attention as he spoke.
"I love being a veterinarian because I love animals, especially horses and I enjoy freedom. Specializing in horses gave me the chance to be outside all day, moving from place to place in our community. Do any of you have horses "
Madison raised her hand, "I do! I have a big Quarter Horse."
"Where do you live " the doctor asked.
"On Anderson Road."
"Is your horse Star "

An A for Mrs.B
I was sitting next to Missy in my ninth-grade world history class when Mrs.Bartlett announced a new project. In groups, we were to create a newspaper on the culture we were studying.
On a piece of paper, we wrote the names of three friends we wanted in our groups. After collecting all the requests, Mrs.B informed us that she would take into consideration the names we chose and would let us know the results the next day. I had no doubt I would get the group of my choice. Only a few people behaved normally in the class, and Missy was one of them. I knew we had chosen each other.
The next day, I anxiously waited for the class. After the bell rang, Missy and I stopped talking as Mrs.B called for our attention. She started to call out names. When she reached the third group, Missy's name was called. So, I was in the third group, I thought. The second, third and fourth members of the group were called. My name was not included. There had to be some mistake!
Then I heard it. The last group: "Mauro, Juliette, Rachel, Karina." I could feel the tears well in my eyes. How could I face being in that group—the boy who rarely spoke English, one girl who was always covered by the skirt that went down to her ankles, and the other girl who wore weird clothes Oh, how badly I wanted to be with my friends.
I fought back tears as I walked up to Mrs.B. She looked at me and knew what I was there for. I was determined to convince her I should be in the "good" group. "Why... " I started.
She gently placed a hand on my shoulder. "I know what you want, Karina," she said. "But your group needs you. I need you to help them get a passing grade on this assignment. Only you can help them."
I was stunned(说不出话来). I was confused. I was amazed. She had seen something in me I hadn't seen.
"Will you help them " she asked.
I stood straighter. "Yes," I replied. I couldn't believe it came out of my mouth, but it did. I had committed.

It was thrilling to see our painstaking efforts finally paid off. We hugged tightly, our joy and happiness beyond description. At the moment, I suddenly realized that it was Mrs.B's insight that brought out the potential in four of her students(第一个that引导宾语从句,第二个that构成强调句), a deep sense of gratitude rising inside me. [2023江苏镇江期中]Alex pedaled his bike along the country lane that led to his house. As he rounded a bend, the tips of the cattails that grew around Johnson's Pond came into view. His dad took him to go canoeing there sometimes, and Alex loved it. The pond was always so alive with activity. Frogs croaked along the shore, dragonflies hunted among the cattails, and sometimes Alex discovered turtles basking in the sun(晒太阳) on the rocks.
Alex was curious about the turtles he saw. One week, when it was too rainy to go canoeing, he and his dad went to the library to check out books on turtles. Alex learned that turtles don't have warm blood like people do. That's why they have to sit in the sun to warm themselves. Now it looked like tomorrow might be another sunny day. He decided he would ask Dad if they could go canoeing and look for turtles again.
Just then Alex saw something in the road up ahead. It looked like a big gray rock. But it was a funny place for a rock to be.And then, as Alex watched, the rock started to move.
When he rode his bike up to get a closer look, he saw that it wasn't a rock at all. It was a large turtle that crawled across the road. It had a bony, beak-shaped mouth and a long, jagged tail. Alex knew right away it was a snapping turtle.
He also knew not to get too close. He had read that a snapping turtle has a powerful bite even though it
doesn't have teeth. It could even bite off someone's finger. He stood at a distance and watched the turtle move slowly over the road.
Out of the corner of his eye, he saw a car approaching. The turtle was still only halfway across the road. Alex knew he couldn't pick it up to move it safely to the grass. What could he do

[2023辽宁教研联盟一调]A school talent show would be held three weeks later. I told my best friend, Tina, the news. My elder brother had been teaching me to juggle(玩杂耍), and I knew he'd help me with my act for the show. Tina ran over to the noticeboard and read the poster. But when Tina asked me what our act was going to be, I didn't know how to speak up for myself. I held on to my books tightly. Tina laughed and pointed to the poster. It said acts can be individuals, partners, or small groups. My grip(紧握) on my books now became uncomfortable. I asked Tina if she wanted to do an act with me. She nodded. I hesitated for a second before continuing, "I've got an idea and..." Tina interrupted me immediately, "Yeah, me too; let's talk about it over lunch."
During math, I tried to think of how I would tell Tina that I wanted to do my own act. After all, we were best friends; we should be able to see eye to eye about this. The problem was Tina always took charge. I never spoke up, and then I ended up feeling angry. I desperately wanted to win, but it was more than that. I wanted to win on my own—with an act that was all mine.
At lunch, Tina started talking as soon as we sat down. She had it all planned out. She said we could sing along to a song and do a dance routine, and her mother could make us costumes. However, I got up the courage and told her about my juggling act. Tina said she didn't think she could learn to juggle in three weeks and that she would probably drop the balls. She didn't want to be embarrassed. I didn't say anything, but after school, I
ran around the track a couple of times just to let off steam.

what she said, I thought about it over and over again. I began to realize that it wouldn't hurt to let Tina know what I really wanted if she was a true friend of mine. Finally, I made up my mind to talk to Tina.
When we got home, I took 12 deep breaths before I called Tina. With butterflies in my stomach, I waited for her to pick up the receiver. After I got through, I told her that I was going to do my juggling act alone. Much to my relief, she said OK after a short silence. Before hanging up, she also wished me success. The next day, she described her act and I talked about my practice. We encouraged each other and exchanged ideas. I found it not so hard to speak up for myself. On the day of the talent show, my wonderful performance received thunderous applause from the audience. It was the talent show that boosted my confidence and made me into a better person by speaking up bravely(It was...that强调句,强调主语the talent show).

Being Planted
"106!"The cry of disappointment breaks the silence of the peaceful night.
In darkness, he stands still there, with tears dropping continuously from his eyes.
He is a 5th-year Ph.D. student majoring in biology. This is his 106th attempt to cultivate strawberries which could bear extreme climates. In his 105th experiment, he did all the precautions that he knew could lead him closer to his goal. Every generation of the strawberry seemed to bring him closer to success, but every time the result was alike—failure, failure, failure. He has literally got used to it. But this time, he can hardly help feeling frustrated and angry.
"Who stole my experimental strawberry!"
Last night, when he got to the field, he was thrilled. Although most of the plants were obviously dying, one plant stood vigorously in the middle of the experimental field. The plant was labeled "Plant No. 106". What a coincidence! In his 106th attempt, the 106th plant was finally mutating(变异) in its ideal way—the spark of hope, to him.
Last night, Plant No.106's fruit started to turn red. He was never so close to success. What he needed to do was wait for several days to harvest that pink, shiny and attractive fruit. But this night, the fruit disappears. So does his hope.
"3 years' effort! 1,096 days' struggling! 13,152 hours' DNA editing and experiment. ALL GONE!"he murmurs to himself. He regrets that he didn't get a small sample of the stolen strawberry last night.
Now he is using his fingers to dig the ground. He doesn't know why he is doing so. He is well aware that the results of the past 106 attempts are all wasted because of the incident and his not taking the sample in time. He has no seeds left. At the present, he seems to have only 2 choices: to start from the very beginning, or to give up.
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
He uses his fingers to dig the soil of that inch of field which used to contain his hope.
He is so excited that he bursts into tears.
He uses his fingers to dig the soil of that inch of field which used to contain his hope"可知,续写第一段应该会讲到他挖地时的心理活动以及挖掘的结果等。 He has no seeds left"可知,他挖出的可能是种子。

He uses his fingers to dig the soil of that inch of field which used to contain his hope. No matter what the result is(让步状语从句),he wants to bring some soil back as a memory for his 3-year effort. Out of the blue, he touches something that feels different(定语从句).It is a sprouting seed! It was accidentally planted too close to the mutated plant. It looks even more vigorous than Plant No.106 in this more rigid environment. It is
obvious that this slowly-growing plant will bring out an even better experimental result than Plant No.106(主语从句). He names it Plant No.106-1.
He is so excited that he bursts into tears. If someone hadn't stolen Plant No. 106, if he hadn't dug the soil after he thought he failed, he would miss this extraordinarily special seed(虚拟语气).Everything is not only hopeful again, but becoming even better. Sometimes, we may find ourselves in darkness, feeling helpless and desperate(现在分词短语作状语), just like Plant No.106-1, just like "HE". But never give in, for darkness may be temporary. Please be patient and hold your virtue of perseverance, for maybe "we" are just being planted.

[2023山东济南二模]My father, Michael, led me through the little wooden house he'd filled with his paintings."When I have an exhibition..."he began, pointing to the artworks he'd created, before stopping. "Poor Pa,"I thought. In 1994 he got Parkinson's disease(帕金森病),which had shocked the whole family as he was only in his forties.
A husband and father to three kids, Pa had had a successful career running an advertising agency and had always been extremely creative. Outside of work, he'd spent 15 years fronting the cover band, Musical Chairs, which performed at the pub in Sydney's Double Bay each week and, when I became a mother, he developed a very close bond with my daughter.
Even when his Parkinson's advanced, my father decided he wanted to paint. "Why don't you try classes " my mum Louisa suggested. He agreed. In art lessons, the class practised painting still life objects, like pears, but my father had other ideas for his inspiration. He began producing abstract pieces, inspired by his favourite artist, Jackson Pollock, a leading abstract expressionist. "Why abstract "I asked him. "Because,"he replied, "it helps us to see the world around us in a different way. You can look at these paintings and ask‘what if ’"
Soon, I realized he was right. When I observed my father's work, I could interpret each of them in many ways. Once he got started, he showed no signs of slowing down. The little house was quickly filled with more and more works.
But in 2019, Pa developed cancer and was given just three months to live. The thought of losing him was
too much for any of my family to accept, but we soon received great news that a new form of treatment can help him greatly. Since he continued speaking about wanting to share his paintings with the world, I knew what had to be done.
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
I told him I would help organize an exhibition.
A month later, the big day finally came.
I told him I would help organize an exhibition"和续写第二段的首句"A month later, the big day finally came"可知,"我"为父亲办了画展,故第一段可从"我怎样准备画展 ""我能得到哪些人的帮助和支持 ""画展在哪里举办 ""布置画展需要做什么 "这几个方面去写,可以从找父亲之前所在的广告公司帮忙做宣传、联系父亲之前所在乐队的朋友、挑选画作、安排画作的位置等相关内容入手。

I told him I would help organize an exhibition. Soon I contacted the advertising agency he once worked for, explaining my father's current situation and his long-desired dream. The people in charge agreed with pleasure, adding that my father's creativity was deeply appreciated. Everything went smoothly, and a great idea hit me. Why not invite Musical Chairs Their presence would surely bring Pa great comfort and a sense of belonging. After receiving a big "Yes" from the band, we began to select works to be exhibited and then transported them to our city museum.
A month later, the big day finally came. With our company, Pa went to the museum. Seeing the crowds flooding in(现在分词短语作状语),Pa smiled like a young boy, his wrinkled face lighting up. The viewers expressed their admiration to Pa and shared with him how they were inspired to see the world differently. Pa cast a glance at me with pride and gratitude(心理+动作描写). I felt greatly privileged to be his daughter, for I knew his creativity and passion for life would inspire me to go a long way.

The music in you
Any partygoer can tap their heel to an unfamiliar song without realizing it. Yet when asked on site, they might reply,"Music I don't know anything about that."
Maybe you've heard a variation on this theme,"I don't have a musical bone in my body." Most of us make music publicly just a few times a year, for example when it's someone's birthday and the cake comes out. Privately, it's a different story. We belt out tunes in the shower and create rhythm tracks on our steering wheel. But when we think about musical expertise, we tend to imagine professionals who specialize in performances. As for the rest of us, our bumbling private efforts, rather than illustrating that we share an irresistible urge to make music, seem only to demonstrate that we don't enjoy essential musical capacity.
But the more psychologists investigate musicality, the more it seems that nearly all of us are musical experts, in quite a surprising sense. A lot of the most interesting and substantial elements of musicality are things that we all share. We aren't talking about the instinctive, inborn universality here. Our musical knowledge is the product of long experience; maybe not years spent on an instrument, but a lifetime spent absorbing music from the open window of every passing car.
In fact, for all its remarkable power, music is good company. Many of our feelings are governed by a similar rule. We don't know how we come to like certain food more than others. We don't know why we fall in love. Yet in the very act of making these choices we reveal the effects of a host of instinctive mental processes. The fact that we respond to music so naturally and normally actually speaks to its strength and universality.

第二段——日常生活中,我们常乐于欣赏音乐,而不认为自己有音乐能力;
第三段——根据心理学家的研究,几乎我们每个人都是音乐专家;

Digital Hoarding" Could Be an Increasing Problem
As data storage has become more accessible than ever, the amount of digital "stuff" we all have put aside is on the rise, too.
In a recent paper published in the journal Information & Management, we have investigated a rising phenomenon called "digital hoarding",which happens when an individual constantly acquires digital content, feels the difficulty in getting rid of it, and gradually gets more and more digital content without an intended purpose.
Digital hoarding can quickly increase out of control, too—perhaps even more quickly than in the physical world due to several reasons. First, the digital hoarder is less likely to notice the space limitations in the digital world. While the boundaries of a physical space are clear, such boundaries are less noticeable in digital spaces. Second, hoarding of physical objects happens in fixed boundaries, while digital spaces are "expandable"—you can get additional digital storage with minimum effort at very little or zero cost. Third, to hoard physical items, a person needs to expend some effort, such as purchasing them. By contrast, most digital content is either self-created, free, or available on a subscription(订阅) basis. Fourth, compared with physical stuff, digital content can be multiplied, for example, by making copies, with very minimal effort.
In the modern world, it is unavoidable that digital content plays an important role in our lives. Therefore,
the potential for serious mental health impacts from digital hoarding is a real possibility.
If you think you're holding onto too much digital content, you can try cleaning your digital footprint, reducing unnecessary digital content, and coming up with simple methods to organize your files, pictures and videos. What's more, reassess the importance of many social networks, including groups in many communication apps, and keep only those essential to you.

(要点1) Digital hoarding becomes uncontrollable because hoarders seldom know the space limitations in the expandable digital space(原因状语从句).(要点2) Moreover, digital content is easy to get and shoots up. (要点3) To keep mentally healthy, you should reduce digital footprints and avoid so unimportant social networks.

[2023广东广州黄埔区一模]"Teaching young children to learn to read is one of the most important things primary education does. It's fundamental to children's making progress in life," says Dominic Wyse, a professor of primary education at University College London in the UK. "While learning literacy is vital to children, the way we teach it really matters.
In a 2022 report, he states that the English school system's intense focus on phonics—a method that involves matching the sound of a spoken word or letter with individual written letters through a process called "sounding out"—could be failing some children. A reason for this is that the tests used to assess that early learning may have little to do with the skills actually needed to read and enjoy books or other meaningful texts. For example, the tests may ask pupils to "sound out" and spell nonsense words, to prevent them from simply guessing, or recognising familiar words. Since nonsense words are not meaningful language, children may find the task difficult and puzzling. It doesn't end up being meaningful. It ends up memorising rather than understanding context.
Children who attended intensive preschools do not have higher academic abilities in later grades than those who did not attend such preschools, several studies now show. Early education can, however, have a positive impact on social development, which in turn feeds into the likelihood of graduation from school and
university as well as being associated with lower crime rates. In short, attending preschools can have positive effects on later achievements in life, but not necessarily on academic skills.
Too much academic pressure may even cause problems in the long run. A study published in January 2022 suggested that those who attended a preschool with a strong academic emphasis showed lower academic achievements a few years later, compared to those who didn't gain a place.
第一段——虽然读写能力对孩子很重要,但教读写的方式也很重要;
第二段——听写字母、单词的实质是记忆而不是理解,所以没有意义;
第三段——学前教育可能对生活中后期的成就产生积极影响,但对学业技能不一定有作用;

Learning literacy is important to children, and how they learn it also counts. (要点2) Although early education does good to social development(让步状语从句), studies also show too much of it has nothing to do with later academic skills and it may cause problems.(要点3)

[2023上海宝山区一模]When you're having fun with your friends, you take selfies. When you visit famous places, you take selfies. When you are in beautiful spots, you take selfies. But sometimes you don't look very attractive in the photos. And, of course, if you're going to post them, you want to look your best. What can you do
Instead of posting a photo you don't like, you can turn to photo retouching. When you retouch an image, you improve its appearance. Many apps offer you the ability to do that. Their easy-to-use tools help you smooth your skin, make your teeth straighter and whiter, and more. Within the apps, you can also change your facial features. You can make your eyes rounder and brighter. You can change the shape of your face or your nose. You can also change the direction of the light source or add highlights. All in all, you can make yourself look like what you wish.
Now you've uploaded your retouched photos to social media. People leave positive comments, and you get a lot of likes. That's great, right Maybe not. With so many people sharing personal images of their lives, it's almost like a contest.
Who looks the best, takes perfect selfies and lives up to social media's standard of beauty You need to be part of that crowd so that you don't feel left out. Worse yet, you feel if you're not part of that crowd, you may be criticized for your looks. Maybe you think that if you don't look like the influencers you follow, you're not
good enough. People generally retouch themselves to have larger eyes, thinner chins and brighter skin. Does everyone now look the same It seems like a lot of people are trying to match up to unrealistic beauty ideals. That isn't good for anyone's self-image.
Perhaps it's time to post the real you and the only lightly retouched photos, if at all.
