It is very possible for a person with a disability to get a job. Depending on the type of disability a person has, there are many positions available. Of course, he must be realistic in choosing a job. If he has a physical disability, he should look for a job in which he can use his skills and abilities.
Some larger companies have programmes for hiring people with disabilities. It is a good idea to get in touch with them, as they are much more enthusiastic(热情的)to hiring people with disabilities due to their positive past experiences. Some disability-support groups may have lists of companies that have been helpful in the past or that have a history of hiring disabled people, or know of some working positions that are open to disabled people.
When talking with an employer about the job, one must be very honest. He should tell the employer about his disability. It is also important to know whether there are any sorts of tools or new technology that could help a person with a disability do a job. For instance, when working with computers, there is a special software that allows one to tell it what to write instead of having to type it. Or a new type of wheelchair that allows one to do his job more easily would also be a very good investment as it may be the key to getting a job.
It is very important for a disabled person to realize that he should not suffer mistreatment of any kind from the employer. Although his abilities are slightly different from the majority of other working people, there is no reason for one to be treated badly. He should ask for a fair salary and fair treatment.

Module 6 The Internet and Telecommunications
Module 6 The Internet and Telecommunications Module 6 | The Internet and Telecommunications单元话题导入 What is the Internet and how does it work?
If you've never been on the Internet before, you might not know what it is and how it really works.
The word “Internet” describes the network that started in 1984. The Internet connects computers from around the world so people can share information. You can play games, chat with others, send and receive e-mails, find information and shop through it.
Module 6 | The Internet and Telecommunications The World Wide Web is the part of the Internet that lets you see information using words, pictures, colours and sounds. Most people call it the Web. Information on the Web is listed on websites. To get to the website you want, you need to use the correct Uniform Resource Locator (URL)(统一资源定位地址), or address. Module 6 | The Internet and Telecommunications
If you know the address, just carefully type it into the box on the screen. If you don't know the address, go to a popular search engine (搜索引擎) like Google (www. google. com) or Baidu (www. baidu. com). Once there, you just need to type in some information about what you want to find. For example, you might want to find out about the weather in your city. If you live in Beijing, you would type in “Beijing” and “weather”. You then get a list of sites, and you simply choose the site that has the information you want.
1.In front of the classroom are beautiful flowers.
有些同学认为介词短语in front of the classroom作主语, 这是主系表结构。根据前面所讲的内容可知, 介词短语不能作主语。该句是完全倒装句,其真正的语序是:Beautiful flowers are in front of the classroom. 由此可知, 这个句子真正的主语是beautiful flowers, 介词短语in front of the classroom作表语。2.His job is clean the street every day.
出现这种错误主要是受汉语习惯的影响。在英语中动词原形一般情况下是不能直接作表语的。这个句子应改为:His job is to clean the street every day. 此处是不定式短语作表语。
3.He lay in the bed, awake.
有些同学对副词作状语很熟悉, 而这个句子是形容词awake作状语。形容词作状语在高考试题中多次出现,这也是我们应该注意的问题。Period Four │ 基础写作知识 【及时演练】

Students' use of computers
Since 2000, there has been tremendous growth in the use of computers by students. While in 1990, the average number of hours a student spent on the computer was about one hour per week, this number grew to nearly four hours per week by 1995, and to approximately 20 hours per week by the year 2000. 单元总结提升 │ 拓展延伸阅读 This significant growth in the use of computers by students in the 1990s can be attributed to several factors, including widespread usage, lower prices, and technological and social developments. Nowadays, computers are widely used by students for word processing, book keeping, multimedia presentations, and access to the Internet for both research and communications. ①Additionally, since 1990, due to competition and technological advances, computer hardware and software prices, as well as Internet usage charges have dropped significantly. Finally, technological developments and changes in social habits in the 1990s have played a major role in this tremendous growth in the use of computers. 单元总结提升 │ 拓展延伸阅读Today's society relies heavily on computers for immediate access to the news and for entertainment, including listening to music, watching movies and sport events, and playing computer games.
单元总结提升 │ 拓展延伸阅读 ②While computers are of great assistance to the students, and therefore, are indispensable tools, they also pose some challenges. The biggest challenge that many students face is discipline in the use of this powerful device. That is, students need to have the discipline of not allowing themselves to be lured by the entertaining aspects of this wonderful tool—aspects that can result in addiction to computer games or viewing undesirable material on the Internet. That is to say, students need to use this powerful tool with great wisdom!单元总结提升 │ 拓展延伸阅读【典句赏析】

“I don't often talk with my parents or grandparents, but I talk a lot with my old friends on QQ,” said Fox's Shadow, the online name used by a girl student in China. “Most of my classmates use QQ after school.”
QQ is the biggest messaging service in China. A recorder from Tencent, the company which developed QQ, shows that 4 million people used it one Saturday night in October. And probably Fox's Shadow was one of them. “I log in(登录) on Friday nights and Saturdays when I feel everything around me boring. I usually spend about ten hours chatting online every week,” she said. “But I never talk with strangers, especially boys or men.”
Even though she likes chatting, she is careful about making friends with strangers online. “You don't know who you're talking to. You should always be careful about whom you believe in online.” Many people would like to meet offline when they feel they have got to know someone very well. Fox's Shadow once met one of her online friends face-to-face. It was a girl who was a football fan like her and they went to a football match together.
A 16-year-old Beijing boy, named Bart Simon online, dislikes using QQ. “I used to chat on QQ, but I found that most people were talking about foolish things,” he said. Now he chats online in English, using MSN. “I only chat online because I've got friends in Japan, the US and Singapore,” he said. “I want to learn more about foreign cultures.” But he spends little time chatting on QQ as he sees it as a waste of time and money.
“If you are really addicted to(沉溺于) it, sometimes you can't give your mind to your lessons,” he said. “And friends in your real life are always more important than those so-called friends you meet online.”

Ⅰ.阅读理解(共两节;满分42分)
第一节(共16小题;每小题2分,满分32分)
A
As for older people, some of the applications(应用程序) are hard to use because they didn't grow up with them. They don't have simple models of how it should work. They don't know what to do when it doesn't work.
I think there is huge potential, so I have designed some for them. The ability to connect to friends, who remember the same movies, news and music, is really important, especially as people get older. They end up in retirement homes and they aren't always close to their friends. Allowing the network to help them connect with friends and family members is a really powerful thing.
My wife likes using the Internet, although it took me years to get her to use e-mail. She was born with normal hearing, but lost it when she was three years old. She was totally deaf for many years until 53 when she got ear implants(移植物). They work really well. That is a big change for her. Before then, her friends couldn't call her on the phone, so they insisted that she use e-mails to communicate with them.
The younger people don't even think of this as technology. It's just there, and they use it. There's been a very interesting change in communication styles between the old and the young. A woman named Sharryturkle wrote about this phenomenon(现象). There are some kids who are now in their teenagers and are tending not to make phone calls. And they think of e-mail as old-fashioned and slow.
The reason why teens don't make phone calls seems to be that they don't know what to say. When they call they often pause for a while. On the other hand, texting is considered proper, and it's OK if you don't answer. You might have been distracted(心烦意乱的). It's not considered rude, but it's considered unusual if you're in this kind of voice conversation and simply stop talking.
1. We can infer from the text that the author is a________.
A. company manger B. program designer
C. college professor D. family doctor
2. Why did the author's wife connect with others by e-mail? Because she________.
A. didn't like to talk on the phone
B. didn't know how to use the phone
C. couldn't move or meet with her friends
D. was deaf and couldn't hear others on the phone
3. What do the young people think of the Internet according to the text?
A. Interesting. B. Amazing.
C. Common. D. Dull.
4. What is the best way for the teenagers to communicate with others?
A. Sending e-mails. B. Making phone calls.
C. Writing letters. D. Sending text messages.

Modern science suggests that a healthy lifestyle matters much to how long you can live and how well you live. Here are some tips for you to form a healthy lifestyle.
Keep a scientific diet. Keep in mind that sugar can be removed from our diet completely. Over intake of sugar is one of the main reasons for getting fat. Over intake of protein or fat and low intake of fiber can also lead to getting fat. Only a few grams of protein do we need every day to keep our body in order. Like rain to crops, not the more the better.
Be always in a good mood. There is a relationship between the mood and health. A good mood keeps you in high spirits. Thanks to the Internet, we can enjoy and learn much without going out. Take a look at some online shops and pick up some bargains, enjoy music and movies and chat with good friends. Just keep happy.
Enough sleep. Two studies show the reasons why teenagers and adults don't have enough sleep.
With teenagers, a major reason is mobile phone use; with adults, it's work. Meanwhile, a third study of young children shows that lack of sleep in early life may lead to serious problems in future. Everyone needs at least 8-hour sleep to recover from tiredness and the hurt caused by hard work in the daytime.
Proper exercise. Do exercise to keep away from fatness. Because of the quick pace of the modern life, you don't have time to do exercise every day, but at least three times a week and 45 minutes each time.
5. The author wrote this passage to ________.
A. tell the readers how to take proper exercise every day
B. provide some advice on how to form a healthy lifestyle
C. ask people to care about their health rather than their work
D. make some surveys among those who have health problems
6. Which of the following can lead to getting fat according to the passage?
A. Low intake of protein. B. Low intake of fat.
C. Over intake of fiber. D. Over intake of sugar.
7. The main reason why teenagers don't have enough sleep is that they ________.
A. use mobile phones too much
B. have too much homework
C. eat too much sugar every day
D. don't have enough exercise
8. How many minutes do you need to do exercise at least every week?
A. 45 minutes. B. 90 minutes.
C. 115 minutes. D. 135 minutes.
C
A funny thing happened on the way to the communications revolution: we stopped talking to one another.
I was walking in the park with a friend recently, and his cellphone rang, interrupting our conversation. There we were, walking and talking on a beautiful sunny day and…I became invisible, absent from the conversation.
The telephone used to connect you to the absent. Now_it_makes_people_sitting_next_to_you_feel_absent. Why is it that the more connected we get, the more disconnected I feel? Every advance in communications technology is a tragedy to the closeness of human interaction. With e-mail and instant messaging over the Internet, we can now communicate without seeing or talking to one another. With voice mail, you can conduct entire conversations without ever reaching anyone. If my mum has a question, I just leave the answer on her machine.
As almost every contact we can imagine between human beings gets automated, the alienation(疏远) index goes up. You can't even call a person to get the phone number of another person anymore. Directory assistance is almost always fully automated.
I am not against modern technology. I own a cellphone, an ATM card, a voice, mail system, and an e-mail account. Giving them up isn't wise, and they're a great help to us. It's some of their possible consequences that make me feel uneasy.
More and more, I find myself hiding behind e-mail to do a job meant for conversation, or being relieved that voice mail picked up because I didn't really have time to talk. The industry devoted to helping me keep in touch is making me lonelier, or at least facilitating my antisocial instincts.
So I've put myself on technology restriction: no instant messaging with people who live near me, no phoning in the presence of friends, no letting the voice mail pick up when I'm at home.
9. Which of the following would be the best title of the passage?
A. The advance of communications technology
B. The consequences of modern technology
C. The story of the communications revolution
D. The automation of modern communications
10. The sentence “Now it makes people sitting next to you feel absent” means that “________”.
A. the people sitting beside you have to go away to receive phone call

D. people can now go to work without going to the office

A. satisfying B. encouraging
C. disappointing D. embarrassing

A. modern technology is bridging people

We are now living in an information age, in which TV, cellphones and the Internet are widely used.It seems that many people cannot enjoy themselves without them.
However, if I had to give up one of them, I would turn off the TV rather than switch off my cellphone or cut off the Internet.I could do without TV because few shows take my fancy, and there're too many commercials.Besides, most programmes on TV are available elsewhere.
As for cellphones and the Internet, they are more necessary to me.I need a cellphone to keep in touch with my friends and family, and almost all information can be gathered on the Internet.
