Many years ago, my dad was facing a serious heart condition. He was unable to do a steady job. He suddenly fell ill now and then and had to be admitted to the hospital.
He wanted to do something to keep himself busy, so he decided to volunteer at the local children's hospital. My dad loved kids. It was a perfect job for him. He ended up working with the seriously sick children. He would talk, play, and do arts and crafts with them.
One of the kids was a girl with a rare disease that paralyzed(使瘫痪) her from the neck down. She couldn't do anything, and she was in despair. My dad decided to try to help her. He started visiting her in her room, bringing paints, brushes and paper. He stood the paper up, put the paintbrush in his mouth and began to paint. He didn't use his hands at all. All the while he would tell her, "See! You can do anything you set your mind to." At the end of the day, she began to paint using her mouth, and she and my dad became friends. Soon after, the little girl was sent home because the doctors felt there was nothing else they could do for her. My dad also left the children's hospital for a little while because he became ill. Some time later after my dad had recovered and returned to work, in came the little girl who had been paralyzed and only this time she was walking. She ran straight over to my dad and hugged him really tight. She gave him a picture she had done using her hands. At the bottom it read, "Thank you for helping me walk."
My dad would be in tears every time he told us this story and so would we. He would say sometimes love is more powerful than doctors, and my dad—who passed away just a few months after the little girl gave him the picture—loved every single child in that hospital.

A.She eventually became a unique painter.
B.She was sent home and never seen again.
C.She gradually recovered and walked.

4.What message does the passage mainly convey

How to be a more responsible person
Responsibility doesn’t come at birth. It is something that is acquired as you age, go to school and progress in life. However, you can hear and see a lot of different things, both good and bad. ①_____ That’s why your sense of responsibility depends only on you. All of it depends on your own decision. Here are a few tips on how to improve your sense of responsibility.
②_____ If you make a mistake, admit it. Instead of making excuses, give the true reason why you failed. By coming up with an excuse, you actually admit to being irresponsible.
Stop plainers are usually those who talk too much and do nothing. By always complaining about the world around you, you actually fill yourself with negativity. ③_____ Therefore, stop complaining!
Overcome postponement. The first step to success is to stop putting things off. Postponement will lead you nowhere. You’re responsible for your own future, so stop delaying now and start taking action on what truly matters. ④_____
Be consistent and stick to your schedule. Having a routine is good. ⑤_____ Try to wake up at the same time every day. Even on weekends, you could get up earlier instead of staying in bed until noon. This will give you some consistency. Plus, getting up early allows you to have more time for whatever you have to finish that day. Additionally, you should set a schedule for your work and personal tasks, and stick to it.
A. Actions speak louder than words.
B. Stop making excuses for yourself.
C. By being negative, you are suffering terribly.
D. You choose your own behavior, actions and words.
E. It means order and means you are on the right track.
F. The hours you wasted could have been used for better things.
G. Even though you never complain, you are obviously exhausted.

offer sh.sth.
2.答案:into
scare sb. into doing sth. 故填into。
7.答案:was published
故填was published。
work与is on the way有明显的先后动作关系,因此要用having done形式作状语。
Be scared of“对……
10.答案:to find
Assist sb. to do是固定搭配,表示"帮助某人做某事",所以此处应用to find。故填to find。
二、
根据第二段第一句“He wanted to do something to keep himself busy, so he decided to volunteer at the local children's hospital.”
All the while he would tell her, 'See! You can do anything you set your mind to.'(他一直对她说:"看!
根据第三段中的“in came the little girl who had been paralyzed and only this time she was walking”可知,那个瘫痪的小女孩来了,只是这次她能走了。故选C。
解析:①上文“However, you can hear and see a lot of different things, both good and bad.”(然而,你会看到和听到各种各样的好的或坏的事情。)
由下文“If you make a mistake, admit it. Instead of making excuses, give the true reason why you failed.”(你犯错了就得承认。
③上文“By always complaining about the world around you, you actually fill yourself with negativity.”(其实,如果一直抱怨你周围的世界,你内心就会充满消极。)
④上文“You’re responsible for your own future, so stop delaying now and start taking action on what truly matters.”(你要对自己的未来负责,所以现在别再耽误下去了,要对真正重要的事物展开行动。)
⑤上文“Having a routine is good.”(生活规律是件好事。)
Volunteering in School Anniversary Celebrations
Our school celebrated its 100th anniversary on December 20th. To keep everything in order, the student volunteer club took an active part and made great contributions to the anniversary celebrations.
Volunteers from Senior One took up the job of cleaning and decorating the hall while volunteers from Senior Two worked as receptionists in charge of greeting and guiding the guests and alumni. It was the sincere smile on their faces and good manners they showed that left a deep impression on everyone attending the anniversary celebrations.
What the volunteers did for the anniversary celebrations got the credit they deserved-all the teachers and students highly praised their selfless devotion.
