文档简介

Now,think back about your early years as a child and ask yourself what your earliest memory is.
What comes to mind Is it a special event Is it a memory of someone special to you Or is it a fun game
If you're like most children, you probably have only a few special memories that stick in your mind from
between the ages of three and seven. Why is that
According to psychologists(心理学家),most adults can't remember much about their early lives,
which they call childhood amnesia(幼儿期健,忘).Famous psychologist Freud first came up with the idea
of childhood amnesia many years ago.Today, psychologists still do not fully understand why childhood
amnesia happens. However, some studies of children's brains over the last twenty years have given
researchers new ideas about what might be going on.
Early researchers believed that children did not have fully-developed parts in their brains to allow
them to keep information.Over time, however,it became clear that children could remember many things,
such as who their parents are, where they live, etc.
Now experts believe children at an early age don't have episodic memory(情景记忆).The
hippocampus(海马体),one part of the brain,,works to tie together all the pieces of memory. And
researchers believe until sometime between the ages of two and four, the hippocampus can begin tying
together several pieces of information into memories.
Although it would be cool to have memories from our earliest days, researchers believe things have
worked out for the best. They believe that early episodic memory could be too distracting at an early age
when we're still trying to understand how the world works! After all, children at an early age have less
attention compared with adults.

How late is too late to return a book to the library For a library in California,USA,the answer is
never. After a historical book was checked out 96 years ago,it was returned to the library by a mystery
man this May.
According to Chris Kreiden, director of the library, the name of the book is A History of the United
Stales and it was written by Benson Lossing.
So how did this book make its way back to the library nearly a century later It started with a
mystery:A man returned the book without leaving any information. In the book,a library worker found a
library note with the date "February 21,1927.On the back of the book, another note reads,"This book
may be kept for two weeks."
What places had the book been to Who had it been with These questions didn't stay unanswered
for long. The mystery was solved after Kreiden shared the story with the local newspaper. That's when
Jim Perry who returned the book saw it was making headlines.
"I didn't know how special it was."said Perry. He explained that he found the book while cleaning
old boxes in his house. He said the book had been in his family for five generations(f)and was probably
checked out by his grandfather-in-law
Now the book is kept inside a display case()at the library, sending people a simple yet
important message:It's never too late to return your library book.
