Sleep is like food for the brain. Enough sleep helps the body and the brain grow and develop. However, many Chinese do not sleep well, and many do not pay enough attention to sleep.
The Chinese Medical Doctor Association released the 2013 China Sleep Quality Index(指数)on March 19 to mark World Sleep Day---March 21.
According to the index, nearly a quarter of Chinese people don’t sleep well.Half said that they feel tired after getting up and 15 percent people have trouble falling asleep.
Ye Jingying,a sleep expert at Beijing Tongren hospital, says:“If people often wake up during the night,or always feel weak and tired in the day, they should pay attention to their sleep pattern.”
Many people play with their cell phones or i pads before sleeping. The report said that this is one of the main reasons for bad sleep.Other reasons include stress and bad moods.
How to sleep well? Above all,get enough sleep.Seven to nine hours of sleep every night is perfect for an adult, and eight to nine hours is best for a teenager.
Forming good sleep habits is important. The report suggested that people need to keep away from digital devices(数码产品)for at least an hour before sleep. The lights keep their brains excited for a long while.Other suggestions include:try to go to sleep and wake up at the same time every day, even on weekends and during holidays, and do the same relaxing things before bed each night, like listening to soft music.

We can make mistakes at any age. Some mistakes we make are about money, but most mistakes are about people.“Did Jerry really care when I broke up with Helen?”“When I got that great job,did Jim really feel good about it,as a friend? Or did he envy my luck?” When we look back, doubts like these can make us feel bad.But when we look back,it’s too late.
Why did we go wrong about our friends or our enemies? Sometimes what people say hides their real meaning. And if we don’t really listen,we miss the feeling behind the words. Suppose someone tells you,“You’re a lucky dog.” Is he really on your side? If he says,“You’re a lucky guy”or“You’re a lucky gal”,that’s being friendly. But“lucky dog”? There’s a bit of envy in those words.Maybe he doesn’t see it himself. But bringing in the “dog” bit puts you down a little. What he may be saying is that he doesn’t think you deserve your luck.
“Just think of all the things you have to be thankful for”is another noise that says one thing and means another. It could mean that the speaker is trying to get you to see your problem as part of your life as a whole. But is he? Being wrapped up in this phrase is the thought that your problem isn’t important. It’s telling you to think of all the starving people in the world when you haven’t got a date for Saturday night.
How can you tell the real meaning behind someone’s words? One way is to take a good look at the person talking.Do his words fit the way he looks?Does what he says square with the tone of voice? His posture? The look in his eyes? Stop and think. The minute you spend thinking about the real meaning of what people say to you may save another mistake.
59.When the writer recalls the things that happened between him and his friends,he_______.
A.feels happy, thinking of how nice his friends were to him

C.feels he may not have “read”his friends’ true feelings correctly

60.By saying“You’re a lucky dog,”the speaker_______.
is just being friendly
expresses the same meaning as “You’re a lucky guy”or“You’re a lucky gal”
is humorous to apply the word“dog”to people
may has a hidden jealous feeling behind the words
61.In listening to a person, the important thing is______.
to notice his tone, his posture, and his clothes

not to believe what he says

For high school leavers starting out in the working world,it is very important to learn particular skills and practice how to behave in an interview or how to find all internship(实习).In some countries, schools have programs to help students onto the path to work. In the Unites States, however, such programs are still few and far between.
Research shows that if high schools provide career-related courses, students are likely to get higher earnings in later years. The students are more likely to stay in school, graduate and go on to higher education.
In Germany, students as young as 13 and 14 are expected to do internships.German companies work with schools to make sure that young people get the education they need for future employment.
But in America, education reform programs focus on how well students do in exams instead of bringing them into contact with the working world.Harvard Education school professor Robert Schwartz has criticized education reformers for trying to place all graduates directly on the four-year college track.Schwartz argued that this approach leaves the country’s most vulnerable(易受影响的)kids with no jobs and no skills.
Schwartz believed that the best career programs encourage kids to go for higher education while also teaching them valuable practical skills at high school,James Madison High School in New York, for example, encourages students to choose classes on career--based courses. The school then helps them gain on--the job experience in those fields while they’re still at high school.
However, even for teens whose schools encourage them to connect with work, the job market is daunting. In the US,unemployment rates for 16to19-year-old are above 20 percent for the third summer in a row(连续的).
“The risk is that if teenagers miss out on the Summer job experience, they become part of this generation of teens who had trouble in landing a job,”said Michael,a researcher in the US.
64.According to Robert Schwartz ,___________.
teenagers in the US don’t need summer job experience
students should get contact with the working world at high school
there is no need for kids to go for higher education in the US
education reform should focus on students’ performance in exams
65.The underlined word “daunting”in paragraph 6 most probably means_____.
Interesting B.discouraging
C.creative D.unbearable
66.What’s the main idea of the text?
The lack of career-based courses in US high schools.
Arguments about recent US education reform.
Tips on finding jobs for high school leavers.
Advice for American high school leavers.

Why must we pay taxes? The answers is that the government needs money for many things, for example to pay its soldiers, sailors and airman,to build roads, bridges, offices, schools, etc and to buy goods from abroad;and only the people of the country can supply the money. One of the most important taxes is income-tax which a person pays according to the amount of his income-tax,no matter he is a businessman,a doctor,a lawyer,a shopkeeper,a miner,or anything else. This is called a“direct”tax, because it is paid in money direct to the government.
Another tax is paid on goods such as watches, jewelry, new clothes, tobacco, wine, etc, when they are brought into a country, such tax is paid as part of the price of these goods if they are later sold in shops. We call it“indirect”tax, because it is paid indirectly through the shopkeeper.
People usually complain about having to pay taxes, but they forget that the money is spent on the things that they and their families need.We need policeman to catch thieves,to see that men obey the laws,to direct traffic, etc, and they must be paid what they earn;children need education and there must be schools and teachers;we want our streets to be kept clean, and the wages of men who do this kind of work have to be paid.Above all,the country must always be ready to defend itself against attacking enemies, and we cannot have an army without paying for it.
Taxes, therefore, cannot be avoided.we buy our own food and clothes and pay for our own amusements, but there are several things that the States finds the money for,and that are necessary for us if our society is to continue. So we have to real cause to complain when we are asked to supply money to be spent for the good of ourselves and for our fellow-citizens.
Indirect tax means_______.
tax that is not paid directly to the government
tax that is paid as an extra amount added to the price of certain goods
Both A and B
tax that one pays direct to the government
Which of the following is right?
Taxes are paid to the sellers.
Income-tax is an indirect tax.
Tax is amount of money that you have to pay to the government so that it can pay for public services.
The tax on new clothes is paid in money direct to the government.
People have no real reason to complain about having to pay taxes because______.
some shopkeepers are very rich
the money is spent on the things that they and their families need
they need money to buy goods from abroad
their children need education
“Taxes cannot be avoided” means______.
you do not have to pay tax on some goods
soldiers do not have to pay taxes
people have to pay taxes to the government
all goods have to be taxed

Wealth is what you accumulate(累积),not what you spend. If you make $1 million a year and spend $1 million, you’re not getting wealthier, you’re just living high.
The most successful accumulators of wealth spend less than they can afford on houses, cars, vacations and entertainment. Why? Because these things offer little or no return. The wealthy would rather put their money into investments or their businesses. It’s an attitude.
Millionaires understand that when you buy an expensive house, you buy an expensive life-style too.Your property taxes(财产税),insurance, and the prices of nearby services tend to be higher.
The rich man’s attitude can also be seen in his car.many drive old cars.Sam Walton, billionaire founder of the Wal-Mart Store,Inc,drove a pickup truck.
Most millionaires measure success by net worth(净值),not income.Instead of taking their money home, they put as much as they can into their businesses. Why? Because the government doesn’t tax wealth;it taxes income you bring home for consumption(消费).
The person who piles up net worth fastest tends to put every dollar he can into investments, not consumption.
The best wealth-builders pay careful attention to their money and seek professional advice.
The self-made rich develop clear goals for their money. They may wish to retire early,or they may want to leave something to their children. The goals vary, but two things are consistent:they have a goal in mind-- the amount they want to save by age50,perhaps--and they work unceasingly(不断地)toward that goal.
One thing may surprise you.If you make wealth---not just income--your goal, the expensive house you’ve been dreaming about won’t seem so attractive.you’ll have the attitude.
Which of the following statements is true?
Wealth is judged according to the life style one has.
Inheritance builds an important part in one’s wealth.
Wealth is more of what one has made than anything else.
High income may make one live high and get rich at the same time.
In the author’s opinion, those who spend money on expensive houses and cars______.
will not be taxed by the government
B.live high and have little saved
C.Have accumulated wealth in another sense.
D.can show that they are among rich
The rich put their money into business because_______.
they are not interested in luxury houses and cars
they can get much in return to build their wealth
their goal is to develop their company
that is the only way to spend money yet not to be taxed by the government
The US government doesn’t tax what you spend money on______.
A.cars B.houses C.boats D.stock
To become wealthy,one should______.
work hard unceasingly
seek as much income as he can
stick to the way he lives
save up his earnings

70% of us are in favor of it as living on campus can help develop a good habit of studying and living.Besides, they can spend less time on the way to school and home. What’s more, they can consult teachers and discuss with classmates, who will contribute to their improvement.
However,30%of them are against it for the reasons below:First, the school canteen can’t meet the various needs of students.Second,if they live on campus, they will have little chance to get in touch with society.Last, without parents’ company, they communicate less with them.
Personally,I think it’s necessary to live on campus because we can live, study and play together happily.
