[2023·湖北省高三联考]An abandoned steel factory in Beijing caught global attention when Big Air skiing started on Monday. During the competition, athletes slid down a 64 meter high, 164 meter long ramp (坡道) to gain speed before they jumped into the air and did tricks. As they rose, television cameras showed them with the repurposed steel factory in the background.
The Big Air skiing structure was built on the site of the former Shougang steel factory, China's first state owned plant that helped the country become a world leader in steel production. It provided work for thousands but also darkened the sky over Beijing and contributed to the city's air pollution. It was shut down and moved to Hebei province as part of China's plan to restructure its economy and reduce pollution for the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Since then, the factory has been turned into an industrial heritage park. Now its cooling towers and smokestacks (烟囱) provide an amazing backdrop for the competitions at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.
“We had other plans to build the Big Air skiing structure elsewhere, but the idea to combine Olympics with industrial heritage won over the International Olympic Committee,” said Liu Yumin, a member of the Beijing 2022 Olympic Organizing Committee. “The structure will serve as a basis for the entire plan to turn the industrial heritage park into a future destination of winter sports and related activities.”
Until now, all Big Air skiing has taken place on temporary structures in mountain ski areas or inside sports stadiums. With narrow runways and shorter, flatter landings, athletes cannot show their best on those temporary setups. The permanent spacious Shougang setup doesn't have those restrictions and skiers have benefited from the enormous improvements during the competition and several skiers have accomplished previously unfinished tricks.
“Temporary jumps like the one in Atlanta can be pretty shaky and scary,” said American skier Nick Goepper. “If something like this can be copied all over the world, it would be super cool.”
“This is one of the coolest things I've seen,” said Eileen Gu. “Instead of pouring black smoke into the sky, the yards are shooting Olympians skyward.”
24.What can be learned about Shougang steel factory
A.It is still one of the biggest steel factories in Beijing.
B.It was shut down during the Beijing Winter Olympics.
C.It has become a training center for Beijing Winter Olympics.
D.It has been turned into an industrial heritage park in Beijing.
25.What is unique about the Shougang Big Air skiing structure
A.It can be taken apart easily after the Games.
B.It has shorter and flatter landings for the athletes.
C.It is the first permanent skiing structure in the world.
D.It has made the competition harder for the skiers.
26.What did Eileen Gu mean
A.China's experience should be copied all over the world.
B.Temporary Big Air skiing structures are very dangerous.
C.The cooling towers can also be used for the other sports.
D.It is cool to combine Olympics with industrial heritage.
27.In which section of a newspaper may this text most probably appear
A.History. B.Design.
C.Industry. D.Culture.

Organized by conservation groups Elephant Family and The Real Elephant Collective, the exhibition comes as a herd of wild Asian elephants roaming Southwest China's Yunnan Province has drawn global attention. Elephant Family said it would like to see more strategies in place that allow elephants to migrate, eat, and do their best to fit into strange landscapes in a way that is safe for both people and wild animals.
The CoExistence exhibition is on display at Green Park, St James's Park and Berkeley Square after the sculptures were initially placed outside Buckingham Palace in May. Elephants move over long distances and explore their environment, as their ancestors have always done. Coexistence is about negotiating this sharing of space.”
When many parts of the world went into lockdown to help control the spread of the novel coronavirus, researchers found wildlife thrived (茁壮成长) in the wake of reduced human activity. “A global reduction in human activity has had a positive effect on wildlife around the world,” Elephant Family said. “It has now been scientifically demonstrated that the moment we lighten our footprint, wildlife thrives and transforms the health of the planet for all. The COVID 19 pandemic has showed us that coexistence with wildlife is very much possible.”
After the exhibition, the sculptures will go on sale for between 6,000 pounds (US $8,346) for a calf and 30,000 pounds for a large adult, Money raised will be directed toward some grassroots organizations working on peaceful coexistence.

A school's “peace room” aims to end fighting in the halls
By the time Marquita Riley, 16, and Aaliyah Hudson, 17, ended up in their school's “peace room”, rumors(传闻) had floated through the halls that the two girls were going to fight.
The peace room at Manley is a part of the school's restorative justice initiative, a growing social movement that, among other things, focuses on healing and teaching how to solve conflicts. The philosophy aims to bring together victims and offenders to cooperatively work through their problems.
The concept is increasingly being used in schools, community centers and churches in Chicago as a way to teach young people how to analyze their anger. They learn to confront tension before it turns violent. It is also being used as an alternative to punitive(处罚的)measures, like suspensions and arrests, which can lead to more trouble for hurting communities.
The idea is that “when harm happens or someone misbehaves, there needs to be a process of restoration in order for the community to move forward,” said Ilana Zafran of Umoja Student Development. Umoja runs restorative justice programs in Chicago schools.
The concept forces all sides in a disagreement to communicate and understand one another instead of resorting to violence. There may still be punishment for wrongdoing, but restorative justice emphasizes identifying hurt and thinking of ways to fix it.
“A lot of our kids don't want to be involved in fights. They don't want to be suspended or away from school,” Jackson said. “We had to create an environment of peace. High school has to be a pleasurable experience for our kids. If they come here and feel the same anxiety they feel in the streets, how can we expect them to stay ”
Among the people there were Marquita and Aaliyah, the two girls rumored to be gearing up for a major fight. After another 20 minutes of discussion, they agreed they had simply misunderstood each other. The girls decided they would not fight, and promised they would talk it over if they found themselves facing tension again.
32.What is Manley's peace room aimed at
A.Preventing rumors from spreading. B.Developing students' team spirit.
C.Helping students restore relations. D.Warning students to behave well.
33.What may result from lack of restorative justice in communities
A.Alternatives to punishment. B.Violent tension.
C.Processes of restoration. D.Controlled anger.
34.Which can replace the underlined phrase in Paragraph 5
A.Depending on. B.Putting up with.
C.Looking back to. D.Making up for.
35.Why does the author give an example of Marquita and Aaliyah
A.To prove effectiveness of the peace room. B.To show the harm of campus violence.
C.To explain the reason for suspension. D.To introduce kids' school experiences.

根据画线短语前的“The concept forces all sides in a disagreement to communicate and understand one another instead of”可知,这一理念迫使分歧各方相互沟通和理解,而不是诉诸暴力。
Ⅱ.七选五
(2022·辽宁省名校联盟高三联合考试)Have you ever gazed at a test question and wondered where on earth it came from You're just certain the teacher has never covered the information, because it isn't in your notes. __36__ And furthermore, they got the question right.
__37__ It is a common frustration. Very few people can write fast enough or can concentrate long enough to record everything the teacher says.
As you can imagine, college lectures can be much longer and more detailed than the lectures you receive in high school. For this reason, many college students deal with the potential problem of missing critical information by developing a personalized form of shorthand (速记).
__38__ You don't have to learn a squiggly line (潦草书写的) language. You simply come up with a set of symbols or abbreviations (缩写) for common words that you find in lectures.
Developing shortcuts in your writing is not a new idea, of course. The trick is to develop a good system and to do it well. __39__ Try these tips:
★Develop a list of the most commonly used words and make shortcuts for them.
★Practice your course specific shorthand at the beginning of the term when your text is still new and you're curious and excited about the information. Find a few interesting passages and practice writing them in shorthand.
★If possible, find a study partner to read the passages to you. __40__
★Time yourself for each passage you practice. Pretty soon you'll start to build up speed.
A.To do that, you have to practice.
B.Find the common terms for the passage.
C.We miss things when we take class notes.
D.Look through the textbooks for each course.
E.That sounds much more complicated than it really is.
F.You can get the real experience of taking notes during a lecture in this way.
G.Then, you discover that some of your classmates did record the information in their notes.
GCEAF
36.G 根据上文“You're just certain ... in your notes.(你只是确定老师从来没有讲过这些信息,因为它不在你的笔记上。)”和下文“And furthermore, they got the question right.(而且,他们也答对了那道问题。)” 承上启下,且下文的代词“they”指的是G项中的“some of your classmates”。故选G。
37.C 根据下文“ It is a common ... everything the teacher says.(这是一种常见的挫折。很少有人能写得足够快或足够长时间地集中精力记下老师说的每一句话。)”可推知,设空处与讲述记笔记的时候会有一些遗漏有关,因此C项(我们记笔记的时候会漏掉一些东西。)符合语境。故选C。
38.E 根据上文“For this reason, many college students ... form of shorthand (速记).(因此,许多大学生通过发展个性化的速记形式来处理丢失关键信息的潜在问题。)”和下文“You don't have to learn a squiggly line (潦草书写的) language.(你不需要学习一门潦草书写的语言。)”
39.A 根据上文“The trick is to develop a good system and to do it well.(关键是要开发一个好的系统并把它做好。)” 承上启下,且A项中的“that”指的是上文的“to develop a good system and to do it well”。故选A。
40.F 根据上文“If possible, find a study partner to read the passages to you.”

Three million years may seem like a long time. But when you consider that planet Earth is more than 4.5 billion years old, it is a pretty short period of time.
The blue whale, __56_____ (weigh) more than even the biggest dinosaurs, is the largest animal that has ever lived. They can grow ____57____ 30 meters long and be as heavy as 130,000 kilograms. ____58____ for millions of years, they were not nearly that large, scientists say. “All of a sudden—‘boom’— we see them get very big, ” scientist Nick Pyenson said. He and other ____59____ (researcher) recently published an article on whale size. “It's like going from whales ____60____ size of minivans (面包车) to longer than two school buses, ” Pyenson added.
The scientists believe that a change in the Earth's climate caused whales ___61_____ (get) so large only about 3 million years ago. This change led to food becoming more ____62____ (easy) available. An oncoming ice age made the ocean water cold and brought more nutrients, resulting in more food for large whales. Whales ___63_____ were able to quickly eat a lot of food survived, and got ___64_____ (large). Over the next three or four million years, the blue whales grew 10 times bigger than they ____65___ (be), the scientists say.
:But/Yet 考查连词。根据前文“They can grow to 30 meters long and be as heavy as 130,000 kilograms.”
空格处需要填写冠词the,构成the size of“……的大小”特指鲸鱼相当于后文提出的面包车的大小。
:to get 考查不定式。cause sb. to do sth.
:that/which 考查关系词。

A Midnight Rescue
It was not uncommon to carry out tasks at night as rescuers. Harry and David were informed of their task when it was nearly midnight. It was urgent so there was no time to hesitate. They headed into the forest.
The forest was black and silent. A little way into it they reached a fork in the earth path. Harry and David took the left path. They walked in silence, their eyes on the ground, watching out for the traps like big pits (坑) set by the illegal hunters. Every now and then a ray of moonlight through the branches above lit a spot of scarlet (猩红的) blood on the fallen leaves.
David saw that Harry looked very worried, asking, “Could Unicorn be hurt that badly?” Harry answered, “If we can't find it as soon as possible, it doesn't stand much chance to survive.” Of course, Unicorn was not the animal in fairy tales but the nickname of a 3 year old elephant, the last wild elephant in this forest. The nickname was given by the biodiversity rescuers who were protecting every member in this forest. They knew Unicorn was obedient and not afraid of human beings and that sometimes put it in danger. “Without it, the forest was not complete. Those illegal hunters should be thrown into prison.” Harry thought, carrying his first aid kit (急救箱) on his back and walking forward with his flashlight.
It seemed that thick fog would come at any time, which would increase the danger. Harry hurried into the heart of the forest with David. They walked for nearly half an hour, deeper and deeper. There were blood splashes (血迹) on the roots of a tree, as though the poor creature had been struggling around in pain close by. “We must hurry up”, said Harry.

Saturday February 26 Sunny
In order to raise our safety awareness, some firefighters were invited to our school to give a speech last Saturday afternoon. They showed us what to do in case of a fire, how to prevent the fire and how to use different kinds of fire fighting equipment. Then a fire drill was held. As soon as the alarm rang, all of us students ran downstairs one by one. We finally got together at the playground safely where our teachers were waiting for us. Through the drill, we have learned how to escape in an emergency. I think it is important for us to remain calm and know what to do.

However, it was really not easy for them to find it. That's because thick fog came, covering almost everything. They had to bend down to search for clues like blood splashes or footprints, which made them walk more slowly, ears sharper than usual. Suddenly, painful roars came to the rescuers and in front of them lay the young elephant. “Look! Unicorn!” Harry rushed forward, crying excitedly. It looked exhausted because a wound on its left front leg was bleeding badly.
Without delay, Harry knelt down to do first aid on its wound with David holding the flashlight. Fortunately, everything needed was available in the first aid kit. Calmly and skillfully, Harry conducted an operation on Unicorn immediately, and it seemed more obedient than before. Therefore, it didn't take much time for Harry to stop the bleeding as an experienced rescuer. And after a while, Unicorn was able to stand up and walked away. It was rescued! Waving goodbye to it, Harry and David felt relieved. At this moment, the whole forest woke up, the moonlight fading while winds singing welcome to the dawn.

An exhibition of 125 life size elephant sculptures has gone on display in London to highlight the need for coexistence between people and wildlife.
CoExistence is an environmental art exhibition by Elephant Family and The Real Elephant Collective. The elephants have been created deep in the jungles by indigenous (土生土长的) communities who live close to their real life counterparts. Here, people and elephants coexist in denser (更密集的) populations than anywhere else in the world.
The founder of The Real Elephant Collective, a nonprofit organization contributing to protecting elephants, said, “Our best guess is that elephants are very intelligent and have learned that humans grow lots of nutritious food.
