The terraced rapeseed(油菜)flower hills of Jiangling,Wuyuan is well-known as one of the four “seas of flowers” in China, attracting thousands of plant-loving tourists to come and appreciate and photograph the vast and endless rapeseed flower fields.
“Rapeseed flowers are the messenger of spring,” said Bin Zhan, manager of Jiangxi Wuyuan Tourism.“Jiangling is the best place for a relaxing spring trip to enjoy the most visually impressive views of golden seas of rapeseed blossoms covering layered terrace fields.”
The rapeseed blossom in the terraced fields of Jiangling, located 45 kilometres to the northeast of Wuyuan County,Jiangxi Province, reached full bloom in the second week of March.
This year,Wuyuan restores ancient farming traditions and practices to give visitors an idea or the history, culture and folk customs of the county by adding scarecrows(稻草人) in the rapeseed flower fields. The creative scarecrows of Wuyuan County are designed in the shapes of popular cartoon characters,Hui-style architecture and folk customs. They are placed in the rapeseed fields to provide more fun and interactions for visitors on flower-viewing tours.
“As flower viewing is becoming more popular in recent years,Jiangling is seeing a growing number of returning visitors, especially professional photographers who come back every year for the dramatic rapeseed blossoms,” Zhan said.“The blossoms only last one to two months.April is the last chance to catch a flower-viewing tour this year.”
In addition to flower viewing,Wuyuan County is also home to the most well-protected ancient Hui-style architecture in China. As one of the most beautiful countryside villages in China,it attracts photographers from around the world every year to document not only the natural scenery, but also the unique farming culture and folk traditions.

With the summer heat becoming increasingly unbearable over the years due to climate change, the cooling load in the summertime has also been on the rise.Insulation(隔热) is currently the main solution for blocking heat from entering a building, but by applying an additional material that can delay heat penetration(渗透),it can prevent the indoor temperature from rising and in turn lower the cooling load of the building.
A research team in Korea has developed a new material for building walls that can help reduce the penetration of heat from the outside. The team directed by Dr.Sarng Woo Karng from KIST revealed that they have successfully done it through building walls by applying a phase change material(PCM).One of the most common types is paraffin oil, which is used to make candles.
A solid PCM absorbs heat as it transforms into a liquid phase,so by using a case to hold it when it is in a liquid phase without causing any leakage(渗漏),it is possible to apply them to a building wall to block heat from entering inside.
The problem, however,is that the PCM turns into liquid starting from the outermost layer, and the parts that are hot move upward, while the parts that are still relatively cool move downward. Thus, while the upper part may have completely melted, the lower part will have not,and as a result, heat will penetrate into the building through the area where the PCM is in a liquid phase. In the end,the PCM becomes ineffective in controlling the indoor temperature and is rendered useless.
Dr.Karng’s team addressed the non-uniform phase change with bubble injections.Injecting bubbles into the bottom part of the PCM enabled uniform circulation(流动)of the PCM in a liquid phase.Dr.Karng said,“We expect that the insulating wall using the PCM bubble generator used in this study will contribute to reducing the amount of energy used to heat or cool a building.Insulation techniques using the PCM help reduce heat penetration,in combination with the building insulating material, and it can also be used as the outer walls of zero-energy buildings.”
4.What kind of function do PCMs serve according to the text
A.Lowering heat penetration.
B.Making the walls stronger.
C.Being used to make candles.
D.Perfecting the building walls.
5.Why is a case used when the PCM is in a liquid phase
A.To test its effect. B.To avoid the risks.
C.To block the heat. D.To stay in shape.
6.What can we infer about insulation techniques using PCMs
A.They are imperfect.
B.They are ineffective.
C.They are low-cost.
D.They are environmentally friendly.

As we get older there are certain gifts standing out in our memories for a variety of reasons.
One gift I was given and treasured most was a doll named Patsy. She wasn’t originally mine but was my younger sister’s Christmas gift, but on holding Patsy I immediately fell in love with her and couldn’t bear to part with her.Luckily,my sister was quite happy to exchange dolls. From then on Patsy was my baby and I continued to love her dearly and would have died for her.
Another gift I offered my Mom has been shining in my mind.On a Saturday,I was on my way to the local cinema when I happened to glimpse at the window of the gift shop at the corner of our street. There were lovely gloves, pretty flowered handkerchiefs, and rose patterned teacups and saucers, all in pretty boxes.Seeing all these lovely gifts reminded me that it would soon be Mother’s Day and my mother’s birthday.Wouldn’t it be nice,I thought,if I could give my mother something really special, something I’d bought myself So I stepped inside the shop and admired a dressing table set, which was a green cut glass with an ornamental tray(装饰托盘) and several matching pieces.I was sure my mother would love it.
The lady must have seen my disappointment when she told me the price. But she had a suggestion which immediately lifted my spirits. She pulled out a large notebook and wrote my name in it and the gift I wanted to buy,and in return I paid her a penny from my pocket money. It meant no sweets that day but I didn’t care.At the age of nine,I’d made my very first lay-by(分期付款)...and felt like a grown-up.From then on,every Saturday I dropped in at the shop on schedule and paid a penny, which the lady dutifully recorded in her notebook.

How do you relax after a stressful day in the office There are many ways to help you relax. 1 It takes a little effort to get there but the benefits are great for our stressed-out lives.I am talking about the activity of forest bathing.
2 It was introduced as a national health programme by the country’s government.Stressed Japanese workers are today still relaxing and reconnecting with nature. The Forest Therapy Society has certified 62 forest therapy sites in the country and the forest bathing movement is also booming in other parts of the world. It says,“Just as bathing in a hot spring helps to soak your cares away, going for a walk in the woods is said to have a comforting effect.”
Forest bathing is about taking time to wander through woodland with no fixed plan or route and just expose yourself to the forest atmosphere. 3 That’s particularly good for people with mental health issues.A study conducted in 24 forests across Japan found that walking among trees lowered blood pressure, the pulse rate, thus improving our immune systems. 4
Another study carried out a few years ago by Stanford University in the US,found similar benefits.Brain scans showed reduced activity in an area of the brain linked to the risk of mental illness in participants who took a 90-minute walk among oaks, birds and squirrels. One of the researchers,Gregory Bratman, said,“There’s an increasing body of evidence showing that natural areas benefit us at least emotionally with our mood and our physical development too.”The evidence seems clear that forest bathing is a shot in the arm for stressed-out workers. So now is the time to get out and lose yourself in the natural environment. 5

B.Connecting with nature has never been more urgent.
C.Forest bathing is rising in popularity around the world.

“It was only a 11 of time,”said Mark Serreze, director of the National Snow and Ice Data Center. His study showed the ice caps were 12 to disappear within five years.Their disappearance was 13 last month, when NASA satellite images of the area showed a complete lack of snow and ice.Serreze’s 14 trip to the Arctic was many years ago.“When I was there in the 1980s,I knew every square inch of those ice caps,”Serreze said.“You have the good 15 .It’s like your first girlfriend.I want her back.”
