Our bodies need a healthy diet which should include all the things you need to develop normally—proteins, carbohydrates, fats, minerals and vitamins.Cutting out things you might see as fattening, such as carbohydrates or fats, can stop your body from developing normally.
There are some simple rules which can help you to stay a healthy and normal weight. They sound quite easy but might be more difficult to put into practice. You can ask your family and friends to help you to stick to these rules—and it might even help them to be a bit healthier!
·Eat regular meals—breakfast,lunch and dinner.
·Include carbohydrate foods such as bread, potatoes, rice or pasta with every meal.
·Eat at roughly the same time each day.Long gaps between meals can make you so hungry that, when you do eventually eat,you eat far more than you need.
·Get enough sleep.
·Avoid sugary or high fat foods and junk foods. If you have a lunch of crisps, chocolate and a soft drink,it doesn’t feel as if you’re eating very much, but it will pile on the pounds.A sandwich or roll with fruit and milk or juice will make you feel fuller, but you are much less likely to put on weight—and it’s better for your skin.
If you follow these suggestions you will find it easier to control your weight, and you won’t find yourself wanting sweet foods all the time.

I had the meanest mother in the world. While other kids ate candy for breakfast,I had to have cereal eggs and toast.Others had Cokes and candy for lunch, while I had to eat a sandwich. As you can guess,my supper was different from the other kids. But at least I was not alone in my suffering. My sister and two brothers had the same mean mother as I did.
My mother insisted on knowing where we were at all times. She had to know who our friends were and what we were doing. We had to wear clean clothes every day.Other kids always wore their clothes for days.We felt embarrassed because she made our clothes herself, just to save money.
The worst is yet to come.We had to be in bed by 9:00 each night and up at 7:45 the next morning. So while my friends slept,my mother actually had the courage to break the Child Labour Law.She made us work.I believed she lay awake all night thinking up mean things to do to us.
Through the years, our friends’ report cards had beautiful colors on them, black for passing, red for failing. My mother, however, would merely be content with the black marks.None of us was allowed the pleasure of being a dropout.
She forced us to grow up into educated and honest adults.Using this as a background,I’m now trying to bring up my three children.I’m filled with pride when my children think I’m mean because now I thank the meanest mother in the world every day.

I walked into my daughter’s room as she was working on a science project.Normally,I would have been pleased about such a sight. But this time, her project involved much sand. While she’d put sheets of plastic under her work area, the sand was spreading all over our new floor.
My daughter felt my displeasure and began to defend herself.“I used sheets of plastic!”she responded irritably.I responded more angrily,“But the sand is getting all over!”
“Where else am I supposed to do it ”she shouted.
“Why didn’t she admit that she had done something wrong ”I thought to myself.I felt my fear, thinking of what her life would be like in the future if she couldn’t realize her mistakes.
My fear was translated into more anger, this time about how important it was to admit mistakes. We had a quarrel. She said something disrespectful to me and raised her voice.
I wished this had never happened before. But my daughter and I were in embarrassment and felt terrible.
So I thought that I needed a good way to respond to my daughter. So I went to my wife and asked how I should have handled it.
“Sweetie,”she said,role-playing in the conversation with my daughter,“there’s a lot of sand here and we need to clean it up before it destroys the floor. How can I help you ”
That’s really a great way to deal with it:first identify the problem, next state what needs to be done and then offer to help. It’s simple, right

For many parents, raising a teenager is like fighting a long war,but years go by without any clear winner.Like a border conflict between neighboring countries, the parent-teen war is about boundaries:Where is the line between what I control and what you do
Both sides want peace, but neither feels it has any power to stop the conflict. In part, this is because neither is willing to admit any responsibility for starting it.From the parents’ point of view, the only cause of their fight is their adolescents’ complete unreasonableness. And of course, the teens see it in exactly the same way, except oppositely. Both feel trapped.
In this article,I’ll describe three no-win situations that commonly arise between teens and parents and then suggest some ways out of the trap. The first no-win situation is quarrels over unimportant things.Examples include the color of the teen’s hair, the cleanliness of the bedroom, the preferred style of clothing, the child’s failure to eat a good breakfast before school,or his tendency to sleep until noon on the weekends.Second,blaming.The goal of a blaming battle is to make the other admit that his bad attitude is the reason why everything goes wrong.Third, needing to be right. It doesn’t matter what the topic is—politics, the laws of physics,or the proper way to break an egg—the point of these arguments is to prove that you are right and the other person is wrong, for both wish to be considered as an authority—someone who actually knows something—and therefore to command respect.Unfortunately,as long as parents and teens continue to assume that they know more than the other, they’ll continue to fight these battles forever and never make any real progress.
32.Why does the author compare the parent-teen war to a border conflict
A.Both are about where to draw the line. B.Both can continue for generations.
C.Neither has any clear winner. D.Neither can be put to an end.
33.What does the underlined part in paragraph 2 mean

I was packed and ready to go skiing for the first time.It felt like I was about to take an adventure with the world at my feet.Feeling empowered,I knew something brilliant was going to come out of the trip.I was more than excited at the thought of spending an entire week with my best friend,Lindsay, hanging out and enjoying winter.
Early Monday morning my youth group boarded our bus for the ski trip.Once at the destination,we saw the skiers floating so easily and gracefully down the slopes.By the time I got my skis and boots,I was confident I’d be a fantastic skier.During the lessons,I mastered the art of skiing within 30 minutes. After spending most of the time practicing again and again on the run for beginners,we were able to fly down the hill by the end of the day.In the evening,we all felt extremely plaining about the pain our ski boots had caused,Lindsay and I decided we weren’t skiing the next day.Well,of course, our friends wouldn’t hear of that.
So,the next morning we found ourselves in line for the ski lift, which wound its way up the high mountain.Lindsay and I stared helplessly at each other, our eyes showing nothing but fear. After I got into the lift,I sat totally still on the chair with my eyes closely shut, not daring to look outside. The lift rose so fast that before I knew it,I had floated up the mountain. When I finally opened my eyes,I found myself at the top in one piece.Thank goodness I was still alive!
Standing at the top of the long slope, with the skis pointing downward,I realized I was shaking.I glanced at Lindsay and found that she was scared too,for her poles kept tapping rapidly against the sides of her boots.
Taking a deep breath and gathering all our courage,we gave each other an encouraging nod and both took off.At first I barely moved, but slowly I allowed myself to gain some speed.Soon I was shooting down the mountain with my heart beating wildly.

M:Hello, boys and girls!Today I will briefly introduce the United Kingdom from many different aspects.First,it is one of the most interesting places in the world to visit, having about 6,400 scenic spots. These include museums and galleries like the National Gallery and British Museum, historical monuments like the Tower of London and Windsor Castle, and so on.Secondly, the United Kingdom contains some of the world’s best institutes of higher education, such as the universities of Oxford and Cambridge.Third, the United Kingdom has had a great influence on the development of cinema and music.Famous films, including the Harry Potter,Star Wars and James Bond series, originated here.Although the James Bond films are made by American studios, they use British source materials, locations, actors and film crews. Moreover,London remains one of the major classical music centres of the world. The UK was also, along with the US,one of the two main contributors to the development of rock music.Lastly,a number of major sports originated in the United Kingdom, including football, rugby, cricket and golf.

根据文中第一段的“The most famous war movies reflect the American public’s continuous fascination with World War Ⅱ and the Vietnam War.” 故选A项。
根据前文“Lee Marvin, playing an officer who thinks and acts independently,is appointed to train twelve prisoners, most of whom have been sentenced to death,to go on a suicide mission to kill several Nazi generals.”
根据文章第二段中“Thinking she’d pushed herself too hard in the last race, she ignored the pain.”
故选A项。
根据第一段“While she’d put sheets of plastic under her work area, the sand was spreading all over our new floor.”和第二段“My daughter felt my displeasure and began to defend herself.”
根据第四段“I felt my fear, thinking of what her life would be like in the future if she couldn’t realize her mistakes.”
根据第二段“I responded more angrily,‘But the sand is getting all over!’”和倒数第三段“So I thought that I needed a good way to respond to my daughter. So I went to my wife and asked how I should have handled it.” 故选A项。
通读全文,尤其根据第二段“I responded more angrily,‘But the sand is getting all over!’”和倒数第三段“So I thought that I needed a good way to respond to my daughter. So I went to my wife and asked how I should have handled it.” 所以C项“Learn to deal with problems calmly and wisely.”
根据第一段“For many parents, raising a teenager is like fighting a long war,but years go by without any clear winner.Like a border conflict between neighboring countries, the parent-teen war is about boundaries...” 故选A项。
画线句子the teens see it in exactly the same way,指的是孩子也用相同的方式看这个问题。根据下句“Both feel trapped.”
根据最后一段中“the point of these arguments is to prove that you are right and the other person is wrong, for both wish to be considered as an authority—someone who actually knows something—and therefore to command respect”可知,父母和孩子都希望自己是正确的,因为都想获得对方的尊重。
最后一段提到“In this article,I’ll describe three no-win situations that commonly arise between teens and parents and then suggest some ways out of the trap.” 故选A项。
36.G 根据空前一句“It is necessary to be reasonable and flexible enough to avoid conflicts as much as possible and live in peace with others.”
37.D 根据空后一句“You should focus on your own life issues.”
可知,该段主要阐述“和善待人”的建议,这与F项中的“try to act kindly towards this person”照应,故F项符合文意。
39.A 根据空后一句“This saying is the life motto of a natural-born peacekeeper.”
40.E 根据空前一句“By all means, try to keep yourself away from stress.”
故选A项。
43.B 根据空格后“his family had a good Thanksgiving Day”可知,搜集食物、衣服和礼物的目的应该是确保他的家人过一个愉快的感恩节。
48.C 根据“how moved she was by her mother’s generosity”可知,母亲的慷慨让简受到了很大的感动,由此可知,这件事她直到今天还记得。故选C项。
49.A 根据“their four children stood around them as we handed out the gifts”可知,“我”们是亲自给孩子们分发礼物,由此可推断出,“我”们是把搜集到的礼物亲自送到了老师家,故应该是在送礼物之前,说了感谢的话。故选A项。
故选A项。
故选A项。
故填was founded。
固定搭配 be forced to do sth. 故填to move。
故填against。
故填a。
故填Since。
Dear Mr.Secretary-General,
As a senior high school student,I’m writing to you to express my hope for world peace.
First of all,I’d like to express my thanks to you for the contributions that you’ve made to keeping the world peaceful since you took up the position as Secretary-General of the United Nations. As we all know, wars in history have brought great trouble and disasters to people, especially children in the war areas. What’s more,in modern times, wars will become more violent and crueler because of the application of modern science and technology.
I hope you can urge all government leaders to do their best to keep the world peaceful.
Looking forward to your reply.
Yours truly,
Li Hua
第二节
Then a sharp turning suddenly came into view.I knew I had to stop, but I was moving too fast to control myself.I tried everything, but in vain. There was only one final option—falling over. After rolling for what felt like forever,I lay still, head dizzy.Worse still,my joints were painful and every muscle hurt.I knew there was no way I could keep going. When I struggled to my feet and brushed the snow off,the terrible truth hit me:I still had half the mountain to go!
I was on the point of crying when I felt a hand on my shoulder. It was Lindsay.“I have to quit,” I said hopelessly.Pointing to some skillful skiers,Lindsay said,“Look, they are skiing so easily.Come on,I believe we can make it,too.” Looking at her determined expression,I was instantly inspired and seconds later we were both skiing down the slope.Along the way there were a few more falls, but we were not defeated. At the bottom,I glanced up the mountain and felt a wave of gratitude and pride. Thanks to Lindsay’s encouragement,I had overcome my fears and learned to face challenges bravely.

Pat took her first college class at Kennesaw State University. After one term, she dropped out to move to Tennessee. She spent the next several decades working as an accountant and raising a family. And while she did take an occasional class at UTC,her family continued to encourage her to finish her degree, especially after she retired.
Pat and Melody graduated last November.Their graduation ceremony was socially distanced, meaning that no audience were allowed. The achievement has made Pat somewhat a celebrity.

Daily News—San Francisco chef Cecilia Chiang, who first changed the stereotypes about Chinese cuisine in the United States, died Wednesday. She was 100.
Chiang was the owner, chef and mastermind behind the game-changing San Francisco restaurant, the Mandarin. She is widely credited with bringing real Chinese food to America and was a celebrity chef before celebrity chefs were popularized.
Chiang, who was born near Shanghai, came from an upper-class Chinese family.Although she wasn’t shy about admitting her good fortune, she faced other, perhaps more hard-won obstacles. To convince the dining public that Chinese food didn’t have to be Thursday’s cheap take-out option,Chiang had her work cut out for her, when she moved to the Bay Area in 1959.She insisted on showing diners the refined side of Chinese food and wanted to upgrade the Chinese dining experience. To do this, she also needed to be aware of aesthetics.
The Mandarin did not serve chop suey or chow mien, two standard dishes on every Chinese restaurant in the US at the time. But this is exactly what Chiang wanted to avoid. In fact, her early encounter with Chinese food in America had left her determined to show San Francisco what Chinese food was really like.
“She deliberately and constantly supported outsiders trying to make their mark in food,” her granddaughter,Siena Chiang said.“I hope she is a signal and an inspiration to people with marginalized identities to always believe in your own worth and knowledge, and not to give into other cultures.”
28.What is the best title of the passage
A.Cecilia brought real Chinese food to America
B.Cecilia opened a game-changing restaurant in San Francisco
C.Cecilia,a great chef of Chinese cuisine, died at the age of 100
D.Cecilia,a chef celebrity

A.Cut her work into small parts. B.Had lots of work to do.
C.Reached out for help. D.Was out of her job.
30.What did Cecilia Chiang do to change Americans’ impression on Chinese cuisine
A.To be an aesthetician.
B.To stop offering takeout food on Thursday.
C.To serve chop suey or chow mien.
D.To improve the Chinese dining experience.
31.What can we learn from Siena Chiang’s words
A.Cecilia encouraged outsiders to value their own culture.
B.Cecilia is a signal and an inspiration to Americans.
C.Cecilia adjusted Chinese food according to American culture.
D.Cecilia competed with outsiders in making their mark in food.

The Notre Dame(巴黎圣母院) fire has been put out,but its spire(尖顶) and a large portion of its wooden roof have been damaged. The terrible destruction causes a sudden sharp pain to people around the world.“What a pity that we cannot see the damaged parts of the wonder anymore.”
But the good news is that there is at least one way of seeing them, namely through a video game called Assassin’s Creed:Unity. In this game, the player can travel to one city after another and enter the buildings exactly like what they are in reality, and see Notre Dame as it was before the fire.Further, with virtual reality technology, which is already quite mature, one can even look around the undamaged Notre Dame as if it were still there.Maybe digital technology could help to better protect architectural cultural heritage.
The idea of making digital models of ancient buildings to save their data dates back to the 1990s and the necessary technology has continued to advance since then.By scanning the ancient buildings with lasers, building 3D models with multiple images,as well as measuring everything precisely, engineers can make a copy as accurate as the real one.
As computers and smartphones are hugely popular, the digital model has great useful value.First,it allows tourists to feel the cultural relics without touching them. The virtual tour of Dunhuang Grottoes in Gansu Province is a good example of this as tourists can view the paintings without standing near them.Furthermore,it can make the digitized cultural relics more famous by spreading awareness about them via the Internet. In 2000,a virtual tour of the Great Wall became very popular at the Hannover World Expo, which increased the number of foreign tourists visiting the site in the following years.Above all,it preserves all the information of the cultural relics.
Of course, however precise a model is,it is not the original.Maybe we will have better technologies in the future, but the digital technology offers a practical way to preserve architectural cultural heritage at the moment.
32.What can we see about Notre Dame in the game
A.The damaged Notre Dame. B.Its wooden shape.

Things to Consider When Choosing a Major
Majors are important in college because it’s what determines not only what degree you will graduate with, but what career you will be most qualified for once you’ve graduated. While it might not be something you want to think about right now,it is something you’re going to decide on eventually.
 36
The biggest thing to remember when choosing a major is to stick with a subject that interests you. This is for your career, and you’re much more likely to be happy if you choose a field that’s in line with what you would like to pursue as a dream job.
 37
It is undeniable(不可否认的) that some careers just make more money than others. That means that some majors are more valuable than others, and as college is supposed to be an investment, thinking about your dream salary is of great importance.
 38
So don’t choose career that will bring you a great salary but that leaves you feeling depressed and unhappy.
 39
If you’re one of those lucky students who know what you’d like your major to be before applying for college,we suggest that you research your top choices first.Which ones are best known Do these programs have a good reputation for helping students find employment in your field after graduation Which schools offer world-class professors These are important questions, because unfortunately, not all majors are created equally.
Don’t Panic.
If you’ve gone through all these tips and you still don’t know what you’d like to major in,don’t panic. It’s normal to go to college not having a clear idea of what you’d like to do as a career;it’s also normal to think you know what you want to do as a profession only to change your mind halfway through your time in college.Remember that college is about finding what truly motivates you,so don’t panic if it doesn’t show up right away. 40
A.Be confident with yourself.
B.You have time.
C.How much money do you want to make
D.Talk to professionals in the field.
E.However, remember that your happiness is very important.
F.What schools are best for your interests
G.What excites you

Then Jeff noticed steam shooting out of the pot and the lid starting to shake. The next minute, the porridge boiled over and put out the fire.Jenna panicked.Thankfully,Jeff stayed calm and turned off the gas quickly. But the stove was a mess now.Jenna told Jeff to clean it up so they could continue to cook the rest of the porridge. But Jeff’s hand touched the hot burner and he gave a cry of pain.Jenna made him put his hand in cold water. Then she caught the smell of burning.Oh dear! The piece of bread in the pan had turned black as well.

Barton Seaver is a chef and conservationist who wants our help to save the oceans. He believes that our eating choices have a direct impact on the ocean’s health. In this interview,Seaver discusses how individuals can make a big difference by making informed choices.
Q:Should people stop eating seafood
A:There are certain species that have been over fished and that people should definitely avoid. But I don’t think we need to stop eating seafood altogether.I believe that we can save the oceans while continuing to end.For example, some types of seafood come from well-managed fisheries. And others, such as farmed mussels and oysters, actually help to restore declining wild populations and clean up polluted waters.
Q:What kind of seafood should people eat What should they not eat
A:My general advice is to eat fish and shellfish that are lower on the food chain and that can be harvested with little impact on the environment. Some examples include farmed clams and oysters, anchovies, sardines, and herring.People should not eat the bigger fish of the sea, like tuna, shark, and swordfish.Otherwise,we will face severe shortages of these species and upset the balance of life in the oceans.
Q:Why did you choose to dedicate your life to the ocean
A:I believe that the next great advance in human knowledge will come from learning how we relate to our natural world.I have dedicated myself to helping people understand our place on this planet through the foods that we eat.
Q:Why do you believe people should care about the health of the oceans
A:The health of the oceans is directly linked to the health of people. The ocean provides most of the air that we breathe. It has a big effect on the weather. It also provides a necessary and vital diet for billions of people on the planet. So I am indeed trying to save the vital things that we rely on the ocean for.

C.Individuals’ right food choices can impact the ocean positively.
D.People should stop eating seafood to restore the ocean ecosystem.

Around 1,500 endangered and rare languages are at a high risk of being lost in the next century, according to a study published on Thursday in Nature Ecology and Evolution.
The study found that around half of the world’s 7,000 documented languages are endangered. It also found that greater road density was associated with higher risk of endangerment.
“It’s as if roads are helping dominant languages overwhelm other smaller languages,” co-author and professor at the Australian National University Lindell Bromham said in a press release.
Greater endangerment was also associated with higher average years of schooling, suggesting that formal education contributes to loss of language diversity.“Mainstream education in a dominant language can lead to loss of competence in minority languages. We urgently need to invest in bilingual education and develop programs that allow communities to bring their heritage language into schools,to make sure the language stays strong and is passed on to future generations,” Bromham told CBS News.
The study found that unless there is intervention, the world could lose at least one language per month, with language loss three times more in the next 40 years. The authors recommended “urgent investment” in community-based programs like bilingual education programs and language documentation. And some of the recommendations that experts made 20 years ago are still the same:governments should remove bans on languages and adults should encourage children to speak other languages—including their native language.
“Each language is a reflection on the creativity and inventiveness of human minds,a beautiful and fascinating solution to complex communication challenges,” Bromham told CBS News.“Most importantly, for many people, language symbolizes cultural identity and belonging. Many groups mourn the decline of unique languages and long for competency in languages no longer spoken.”
28.What was related with higher risk of language endangerment
A.Less road density. B.Unpopularity among language learners.
C.Greater competence of small languages. D.Higher average years of schooling.
29.What should governments do to preserve language diversity
A.Stop bans on languages. B.Create more language education programs.
C.Put more investment in language research. D.Encourage people to speak other languages.
30.What do we know from the text
A.Investment is needed in bilingual education. B.Language loss results in mainstream education.
C.Half of the world’s current languages are lost. D.Dominant languages are symbols of cultural identity.
31.What is the text mainly about
A.The causes of language loss. B.The high risk of language loss.
C.The measures of language protection. D.The importance of language diversity.

Daily physical activity is an important part of a healthy lifestyle. For this reason, many architects and designers are working to create buildings that encourage people to make exercise a part of their ordinary routine. The movement to promote healthy activity through architecture is called active design. It began in 1998 as part of a university public health program, and it has since gained popularity in cities around the world.Active design uses a number of techniques to encourage the occupants of a building to be more active.
One of the most important strategies of active design is inspiring people to make walking part of their routine.A particularly successful tool for promoting walking is the skip-stop elevator. These elevators stop only on every second or third floor, leaving riders to take the stairs in order to reach their destination.Another strategy of active design is to make stairs more pleasant and inviting.Instead of creating dark stairwells that are located in isolated parts of buildings, active design uses well-lit and centrally placed stairs to encourage more foot traffic.Skip-stop elevators and appealing stair design are both effective tools of active design because they offer incentive and opportunity for exercise. In fact, researchers studying a building that employs both skip-stop elevators and more attractive stair design said that 70 percent of building occupants reported using the stairs every day.
Active design encourages physical activity using not only the interior features of a building, but the relationship between a building and its surroundings as well.A building that employs active design may integrate outdoor space in order to make the environment more engaging and promote physical activity. Some elements that architects use to incorporate the exterior with the interior are glass walls, interior gardens or park spaces, and courtyards with open ceilings, all of which de-emphasize the boundaries between the inside and outside. These elements make the building more physically and mentally invigorating.Similarly,by increasing the number of entrances and exits to a building, architects can help keep a building’s users interested in their surroundings by providing a variety of routes for them to use.If people continue to be stimulated by new sights or experiences, they are less likely to choose the quickest and easiest path to their destination and may instead choose a more physically challenging route.
32.What does the underlined word “incentive” in paragraph 2 mean
A.Requirement. B.Encouragement. C.Technique. D.Assistance.
33.Why does the author discuss dark stairwells in paragraph 2
A.To demonstrate the differences between elevator and stairwell design.
B.To describe one advantage of using skip-stop elevators in buildings.
C.To make a point about why people don’t use the stairs often.
D.To argue that skip-stop elevators may lead to design failures.
34.Which of the following is NOT a way that architects weaken the boundary between indoor and outdoor spaces
A.Creating more routes for entering and exiting. B.Building gardens inside the building.
C.Creating spaces with open ceilings. D.Using see-through materials.
35.How does paragraph 2 relate to paragraph 3 in the passage
A.Paragraph 2 describes an early model of the design discussed in paragraph 3.
B.Paragraph 3 argues about the effectiveness of the technique from paragraph 2.
C.Paragraph 3 introduces a different strategy from the one discussed in paragraph 2.
D.Paragraph 2 explains a technique, and paragraph 3 gives examples of how it is used.

It is always said that China is the homeland of tea, which has a very long history of tea. 36 However, unlike the western custom of using a convenient teabag,Chinese go to a lot of effort and time to prepare good tea for their guests, using tea-leaves,natural spring water and a special kettle etc.to create worldwide famous tea culture.Tea is not just a drinkable beverage(饮料),but also a taste of Chinese traditional culture and inheritance of spirit.Unsurprisingly, there are various tea-leaves in China. 37
Color
38 Good green tea-leaves have jade green with fresh vitality.Twisted pan green tea shows glossy gray green. If some of the tea-leaves have dry, dark and brown colors,it means it is old tea.If the leaves have mixed, large contrasting colors,it is believed that the tea is mixed with yellow leaves, old leaves and even old tea, which does not live up to the standard of good tea.
Flavor
New tea is extremely clear and transparent with strong aroma(芳香),while old tea is characterized by brown color and weak fragrance.Take green tea and black tea for example, new green tea tastes a little bitter first, and then the fresh sweet taste begins to surface gradually, leaving a long and memorable aftertaste in the mouth. 39
Place of origin
There is a great gap of quality among various places of origin. 40 For example,it is well-known that Yunnan produces the best quality Pu’er tea and premium Oolong tea can be found within Fujian Province.
A.Every tea-leaf has its own shape.
B.Some varieties are identified by tightness of the leaves.
C.It is always advised to select tea from its main producing areas.
D.While you’re selecting tea,you should pay attention to following aspects.
E.For foreigners in China, drinking tea may seem like a simple refreshment.
F.Generally, new tea-leaves look fresh and pleasing, with light green or dark green.
G.On the contrary,if bitter taste takes the lead and fresh sweet taste subsides,it is bad tea.

An urgent call came into Jim Green’s bar this past March.A newly married woman who had spent the afternoon at the beach bar, couldn’t find her wallet. She didn’t care about her ID,credit cards,or $150 in cash—but her wedding ring was inside.
Jim,42,didn’t like the idea that a theft could have occurred at his place. So he set out to find the wallet. He spent hours checking the video tapes from 16 different surveillance cameras(监控摄像机),watching the woman’s every step in the bar until she went to sit on a bench outside and left when her ride arrived.Within minutes,a young man approached the bench, quickly put something in his pocket, and walked off.Jim posted a clip on the bar’s Meta page.“I just asked if anybody knew who the guy was,” Jim said.
Within hours,Jim got a text from 17-year-old Peter.Peter admitted to having taken the wallet and told Jim he’d done it because he hadn’t eaten in two days.He said he saw the ring but thought it was fake,so he took the money and threw the wallet off the public docks into the ocean. Then he bought a sandwich.
Jim,unsure whether he believed Peter, told the teen to meet him at the docks. There, they got to talking, and Peter revealed that he wasn’t getting along with his family and had been living in the woods for a week.Jim,a father of two, looked closely at Peter—his small height, his ruddy cheeks—and saw him for what he was:more of a kid than a criminal.
But the risks were high. The police were already on the case, and because of the missing ring,Peter could be facing a serious crime charge.“I had to help him somehow,” Jim says.
The police wanted Jim to bring the teen down to the station.Instead,Jim called the police and told them,“He’s going to be at the docks with me tomorrow.”
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
Jim hired two local divers to search the waters where Peter had thrown the wallet.

第一节
Nowadays, many students go abroad for further study. As for their accommodation,I think it better to live in a host family.
To begin with, many students feel homesick abroad. In that case,a host family gives them a sense of belonging and makes them feel warm at heart. What’s more, they can communicate with the natives more conveniently in a host family. It not only improves their spoken language but also helps them learn more about that country.
In conclusion,I firmly believe students should live in a host family while studying abroad.
第二节
Jim hired two local divers to search the waters where Peter had thrown the wallet.A detective was waiting for them there.A crowd had gathered to watch the two divers search in the strong current.More than an hour passed, with no sign of the ring.Jim grew worried, especially when the detective began questioning Peter, trying to get him to admit keeping the ring.
And then a diver popped up.In his hand was the wallet, and inside was the ring.Cheers broke out in the crowd. When Jim called the wallet’s owner, she burst into tears. She promptly dropped the charge against Peter for stealing the ring. But it wasn’t over for Jim.He’d been troubled about Peter sleeping in the cold woods.Jim knew his home was big enough to give Peter a place to live in for a while. He told the teen he could stay with his family until the boy got on his feet again.

A student-led push to get solar panels installed at a middle school in Tacoma is receiving national recognition from a clean energy non-profit organization called Generation 180.The girls involved are advocating and fundraising for the project.
Sammy Firkins,Gwen Newport and Annie Son will talk about their idea to generate solar electricity at Jason Lee Middle School in a panel discussion organized by Generation 180.In 2019,the three of them teamed up with their science teacher,Kathy Hall,to push for solar panels to be installed.Hall, who uses solar power at her own house, said it’s long been a dream of hers. The school would be the first in the Tacoma district to use solar energy.
The girls presented their idea to Gov.Jay Inslee’s STEM Education Innovation Alliance meeting in early 2019 and received enthusiastic support. They then spoke to the Tacoma school board and obtained buy-in from the district, though they were told the district did not have the roughly $200,000 for the 277 solar panels and that they would have to fundraise. They’ve since raised more than half that amount through grants and individual donations.
Gwen Newport says she’s always cared a lot about environmental issues and that she’s troubled that climate change does not get the attention it deserves.“At this point,I feel like it’s kind of been given to my generation almost as our responsibility now and so being able to be a part of this project and take action is really important to me,” she says.
The solar panels have not been installed at the school yet.But Hall says she estimates that the project will reduce the school’s power costs by about $14,000 a year, and that it also will serve an educational purpose.“We will have live data always streaming available so that people can see how the panels are working and how they relate to the amount of electricity we’re using, and it will be an incredible learning tool,” she says.
24.What is Generation 180
A.It is the name of the girls’ team. B.It is a project to use solar power.
C.It is a non-profit environmental group. D.It is a student-led push to install solar panels.

Scientists say a huge percentage of bird species are in danger because their habitats,or homelands, are disappearing.
Traditional migration paths take birds through countries that are not protecting the places for birds to stop, rest and feed. The scientists studied the migration or flight paths of almost 1,500 species. They decided that 91 percent of them passed through dangerous areas.
The major danger for migratory birds is development.Buildings and pavements have covered the places where birds stop and feed as they move from one part of the world to another. One of the scientists who worked on the study says “Many of these important places have been lost to land reclamation(开垦) because of urban, industrial and agricultural land expansion.”
The problem, according to scientists,is that many of these small birds die along their migration paths because they don’t have a safe place to feed and rest. There is no place to restore their energy for the next part of their journey.Countries in North Africa,Central Asia and those along the coasts of East Asia are having the most difficult time in protecting land. The scientists say these countries do not have enough areas that are safe for birds. One species that doesn’t exist now is the Eskimo curlew.“Our world gets poorer every time we lose a species,” one of the scientists says.
The researchers say countries need to work together and come up with safe stopping areas for birds that pass through their boundaries. For example, one country might have preserved safe zones for migrating birds. But a neighbor country might not.A bird might die.
One scientist who is not connected with the report tells Los Angeles Times that while some habitats are changing, more work can be done to make urban areas safe for birds.
He says small changes, like planting more native plants or keeping cats out of the areas birds would be likely to use, could make a big difference.
28.What mainly caused the disappearing of birds’ habitats
A.The decrease of awareness to protect birds. B.Natural disasters.
C.Overuse of land by human beings. D.The rising sea level.
29.What may be the main reason for many birds’ death on the way of migration
A.Exhaustion and hunger. B.Beast attacks on the ground.
C.Hunting of humans. D.The long journey.
30.According to the last two paragraphs, how should we protect the migrating birds
A.By keeping fewer cats or dogs.
B.By restoring their destroyed habitats.
C.By helping change the birds’ migration paths.
D.By preserving the ecological environments on their migration paths.
31.What is the author’s purpose in writing the passage
A.To tell us a huge percentage of bird species are in danger.
B.To analyze the reasons for the disappearing of birds’ habitats.
C.To offer some solutions to the problem of birds’ habitats.
D.To call on people to protect birds’ habitats.

Captured carbon dioxide(CO2) could be used to extract useful metals from recycled technology such as smartphone batteries rather than just being buried underground. The technique could help make it more economical to capture the greenhouse gas before it enters the atmosphere.
“If you also extract metals by filling CO2, you add value to a process that is known to be costly,” says Julien Leclaire at the University of Lyon,France.
CO2 is the main cause of modern climate change,so many people have attempted to develop technologies to capture it when it comes from power plants and other major sources. The gas can then be stored underground. The problem is that such carbon capture and storage(CCS) is expensive.“No one wants to pay the price for it,” says Leclaire.
To make CCS more appealing,Leclaire’s team has found a use for the gas.His team collected CO2 from a car gas, cooled it,and then pumped it into a mix of chemicals. The CO2 combined with the mix to make many molecules(分子) of various shapes and sizes.
The team found that this process could sort out mixtures of metals, because one metal would dissolve in the liquid while another would form a solid. In a series of experiments, they successfully separated three kinds of metals—all of which are used in batteries, smartphones and computers.
If the process can be widely used,it could be a more environmentally friendly way to recycle batteries and other electrical equipment, says Leclaire. This is normally done using highly reactive chemicals, which are potentially polluting.Replacing them with CO2 should lead to a much lower environmental pollution,he says.
Other researchers and companies are trying to change captured CO2 into useful materials like plastics, which are normally produced from petrol, but this is chemically difficult.Leclaire says his approach is more in line with how CO2 behaves naturally.“Instead of copying what we know how to do better and cheaper with oil, let’s find things you can only do with CO2,” he says.
32.What can we learn from the first paragraph
A.Extracting useful metals from recycled technology is widely used now.
B.Useful metals in the atmosphere are used to make smartphone batteries.
C.Abandoned smartphone batteries may have been buried underground before.
D.The greenhouse gas CO2 could be cleaned up after entering the atmosphere.
33.Why are many people attempting to capture CO2
A.CO2 is the main cause of modern climate change.
B.CO2 can be used to recycle many resources.
C.Captured CO2 can be changed to useful gas.
D.CO2 is harmful to people’s health.
34.What benefit could Leclaire’s team’s approach bring
A.It could end the use of plastics. B.It could reduce environmental pollution.
C.It could make more metals available to humans. D.It could help reduce the cost of battery production.
35.What is the best title for the text
A.The Ways to Make Smartphone Batteries
B.The Reason for Capturing Greenhouse Gas
C.Collecting CO2 Is Starting to Make New Progress
D.Captured CO2 Could Be Used to Help Recycle Useful Metals

Mrs.Meredith was a most kind and thoughtful woman. She spent a great deal of time visiting the poor. She knew they had problems, and they needed all kinds of help. When she had time, she would bring food and medicine to them.
One morning she told her children about a family she had visited the day before. There was a man sick in bed,his wife, who took care of him and could not go out to work, and their little boy.The little boy—his name was Bernard—had interested her very much.
“I wish you could see him,”she said to her own children,John,Harry, and Clara.“He is such a help to his mother. He wants very much to earn some money, but I don’t see what he can do.”
After their mother left the room, the children sat thinking about Bernard.“I wish we could help him to earn money,”said Clara.“His family is suffering so much.”
“So do I,”said Harry.“We really should do something to assist them.”
For some moments,John said nothing, but, suddenly,he sprang to his feet and cried,“I have a great idea!I have a solution that we can all help accomplish(完成).”

W:Just give me an answer.I think you’re getting nervous—you’re giving all the wrong answers!
M:Very funny!OK,I’d say people come to me more often when they’ve got a problem as they know I’ll give them good advice.
W:So
M:I will listen to them but also give advice so it’s really the second answer.
(Text 10)
M:I love working in the music business. It’s so interesting and every day is different.
The first thing I do every day is check my e-mail messages. Many fans write e-mails to me and I like reading what they write to me.I write a couple of replies to my fans and then I surf around on some music websites to see what the music journalists say about me.
Then I leave the house and go to a small French cafe for breakfast.London is a very busy city and I enjoy relaxing with my cup of coffee and I watch the world go by while I read my newspaper and a couple of music magazines.I usually only eat a pastry with my coffee.I never feel hungry in the morning.
At about eleven o’clock,my car arrives and takes me to the studio which is about ten miles outside the city.I meet the other members of the band and we drink a cup of coffee together and talk about the ideas we have for the day in the studio.
We never start working in the studio until about midday.Usually,we begin with the problems of the previous day.At about three in the afternoon,we stop for lunch but sometimes we continue recording if we have some good ideas.

When Mrs.Meredith heard of John’s idea, she thought it was a good one, too.Very soon, the children were busy popping the corn, while their mother went out to buy the paper bags. When she came back, she brought Bernard with her.Bernard was very glad to join in the work and said,“So good an idea! I’ll try right now.”They worked together until all the corn they prepared was all popped, the paper bags filled and arranged in the basket.
With everything ready,Bernard started out on his new business.Much sooner than expected,he returned with an empty basket. He had never earned so much money before in his life. For many weeks, the Meredith family continued to offer popcorn to Bernard.People began to watch for the “little popcorn boy”,and every week he had at least fifty cents,a significant income for him and his family,to take home. All of this was thanks to the good idea that John came up with.

This simple little device is helping to deal with one of the most annoying symptoms of Parkinson’s disease—and its creators have just been awarded more than 1 million dollars.
Danish businesswoman Lise Pape was inspired to develop the Path Finder device after her own father developed Parkinson’s disease in 2014.The device, which is attached to a patient’s shoe and shines a laser(激光) onto the floor, helps to prevent “freezing of gait”:a common symptom of the disease which makes the patient feel as if they are unable to walk.
“People describe it as this feeling of being glued to the floor and being unable to step forward with their feet, despite having the intention to do so,” said Pape.“In fact,70% of all falls in Parkinson’s disease are thought to be due to this symptom.”
Surprisingly, researchers have found that it is easy for patients to avoid this symptom if they have a visual pattern for them to follow as they walk. That’s why Pape designed the Path Finder laser pointer to display a bright green line in front of the wearer’s feet.
Not only do studies show that the laser device helps to reduce the frequency of freezing episodes(发作),they also say that the Path Finder reduces the length of the episodes as well.
Since Pape founded her WalkWith Path company in 2017,the devices have been given to individuals and healthcare systems in Norway,Denmark,Canada, and the UK.Carlos Moedas,Chairman of Research and Science, said,“This device makes a real difference for senior citizens by helping them maintain an active social life as well as their independence.”
24.What made Lise Pape decide to invent the Path Finder
A.Her father’s Parkinson’s disease. B.Her father’s expectations for her.
C.Her desire to win the 1 million dollars. D.Her passion for invention.
25.What does the underlined word “it” in paragraph 3 refer to
A.Freezing of gait. B.A sudden fall.
C.The laser pointer. D.The intention to walk.
26.How does the device benefit people with Parkinson’s disease
A.By warning them of falls. B.By reducing their loneliness.
C.By helping reduce freezing episodes. D.By improving their eyesight.
27.What does Carlos Moedas think of the device
A.Excellent. B.Ordinary. C.Expensive. D.Impractical.

If job seekers knew companies were using AI to fill open positions, would it stop them from applying for the job The answer, according to a recent study,is yes—sometimes.
The researchers found that in certain instances, like the screening(筛选) of applications, participants usually accepted some degree of automation. But in other instances, like interviews, automation could stop job seekers from applying for a position.
Companies facing recent labour shortages are increasingly turning to AI as a way to facilitate and speed up the hiring process.AI can be used in tasks such as screening job candidates, checking professional licenses, and interviewing candidates.
The new research suggests that using AI in hiring could be quite opposite. For instance,in one part of the study, participants were shown fictional job postings and then asked if they intended to apply for the position. The researchers found that if the job posting said that AI was used both to screen applicants and to conduct interviews, participants’ intention to apply for the position averaged 2.77 on a six-point scale. If AI was used only for the screening process, participants’ intention to apply averaged 3.73.
In another experiment, the researchers also found that study participants saw pros and cons in the use of AI in interviewing. When told the hiring would be fully automated, some participants expected the whole hiring process to be more consistent(始终如一的) in its judgments. But others tended to believe that they had less voice in the final outcome.Overall, the study results suggest this concern tends to outweigh the appreciation of AI’s lack of bias(偏见) at the interviewing stage.
A mixed approach may be a way to get the best of both worlds.Participants may have been more open to automation earlier in the hiring process because they could see some benefits from using AI—such as less-biased decisions. But during the later stages applicants expect personal interaction,to give them an opportunity to sell themselves and to learn more about the company.
28.Why do companies increasingly turn to AI in hiring
A.To attract more applicants. B.To boost hiring process.
C.To pick out top candidates. D.To solve labor shortages.
29.In which part do participants prefer automation
A.Screening job candidates. B.Interviewing candidates.
C.Grading professional licenses. D.Predicting final outcomes.
30.What does the underlined part refer to in paragraph 5
A.Less AI involvement. B.Lack of consistent judgments.
C.Less-biased decisions. D.Lack of personal interaction.
31.What’s the main idea of the text
A.Hi-tech is a two-edged sword. B.AI finds its way to hiring process.
C.Automation may discourage job seekers. D.A mixed approach should be adopted in hiring.
D
The connection between people and plants has long been the subject of scientific research.Recent studies have found positive effects.A study conducted in Youngstown,Ohio, for example, discovered that greener areas of the city experienced less crime. In another, employees were shown to be 15% more productive when their workplaces were decorated with houseplants.
The engineers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology(MIT) have taken it a step further—changing the actual composition of plants in order to get them to perform diverse, even unusual functions. These include plants that have sensors printed onto their leaves to show when they’re short of water and a plant that can detect harmful chemicals in groundwater.“We’re thinking about how we can engineer plants to replace functions of the things that we use every day,” explained Michael Strano,a professor of chemical engineering at MIT.
One of his latest projects has been to make plants glow(发光) in experiments using some common vegetables.Strano’s team found that they could create a faint light for three and a half hours. The light, about one-thousandth of the amount needed to read by,is just a start. The technology,Strano said, could one day be used to light the rooms or even to turn trees into self-powered street lamps.
In the future, the team hopes to develop a version of the technology that can be sprayed onto plant leaves in a one-off treatment that would last the plant’s lifetime. The engineers are also trying to develop an on-and-off “switch” where the glow would fade when exposed to daylight.
Lighting accounts for about 7% of the total electricity consumed in the US.Since lighting is often far removed from the power source(电源)—such as the distance from a power plant to street lamps on a remote highway—a lot of energy is lost during transmission(传输).Glowing plants could reduce this distance and therefore help save energy.
32.What is the first paragraph mainly about
A.A new study of different plants. B.A big fall in crime rates.
C.Employees from various workplaces. D.Benefits from green plants.
33.What is the function of the sensors printed on plant leaves by MIT engineers
A.To detect plants’ lack of water. B.To change compositions of plants.
C.To make the life of plants longer. D.To test chemicals in plants.
34.What can we expect of the glowing plants in the future
A.They will speed up energy production.
B.They may transmit electricity to the home.
C.They might help reduce energy consumption.
D.They could take the place of power plants.

●5G will change the way we work or study.
In the post-coronavirus world, having remote working capabilities will be more important than ever.Video meeting,e-learning and other Internet-enabled work applications will be possible to the point where people can use them as easily in their home or on the road as in the office or classroom. 39
●5G will change society in too many ways.
The use-cases and applications widely talked about are only a part of what 5G will make possible.Just as in the early days of the Internet in the 1990s,few foresaw the rise of useful websites. The same will surely be true of 5G.
With 5G,other technologies don’t seem like a dream anymore. 40 Now say goodbye to 4G in your homes and be prepared for the new wave of 5G.
A.Self-driving will grow popular.
B.5G will help make self-driving cars a reality.
C.The computer game players can have a faster speed.
D.Why does 5G matter so much in people’s daily life
E.The power to do anything we want will be at our fingertips.
F.5G means faster data speeds and ultra-low latency(超低延迟).
G.It will be also easier for doctors to treat patients remotely by 5G.

The seller behind the stand noticed the young girl and asked,“Hey,girl, you want to have the noodles ”
“Oh,yes...but I don’t have money on me...” she replied.
“That’s nothing.I’ll treat you today,” said the man.“Come in.”
The seller brought her a bowl of noodles, whose smell was so attractive. As she was eating,Jenny cried silently.
“What is it ” asked the man kindly.
“Nothing, actually I was just touched by your kindness!” said Jenny as she wiped her tears.“Even a stranger on the street will give me a bowl of noodles, while my mother drove me out of the house. She showed no care for me.She is so merciless compared to a stranger!!”
Hearing the words, the seller smiled,“Girl,do you really think so I only gave you a bowl of noodles and you thanked me a lot.But it is your mother who has raised you since you were a baby. Can you number the times she cooked for you Have you expressed your gratitude to her ”
Jenny sat there, speechless and numb with shock;she remembered her mother’s familiar face and weathered hands.“Why did I not think of that A bowl of noodles from a stranger made me feel indebted, but I have never thanked my mum for what she has done for me.”

写作
第一节
Recently,we had a class discussion about whether it is necessary to apply high technology to the Palace Museum. Our opinions are divided.
Some support the creative measures, saying that the use of high technology can add beauty to the Palace Museum, thus making it more attractive to visitors. However, those who are against the idea say that it will destroy the original appearance of the Palace Museum.More importantly,it is extremely essential to respect the history and our tradition and culture.
In my opinion, lots of work can be done to appeal to more visitors. It’s our duty to provide a complete and true ancient palace for the world.
第二节
Approaching the doorway,Jenny took a deep breath. When she knocked at the door, she found the door was locked and her mother was not in.Tired and sad,she sat down in front of the house.“Where could my mother be ” she wondered,“was she still angry with me ” Again, the scene of the quarrel appeared in her mind. She remembered her rudeness to her mother.Realizing that all the scolding from her mother was due to the fact that her mother really cared a lot about her,she felt rather ashamed, and tears began to roll down her cheeks.
A gentle touch on her hair called her mind back. She raised her head and saw the familiar face of her mother.“Here you come!I’ve been looking for you,” she said, tired and relieved.Jenny couldn’t help throwing herself into her mother’s arms.“Mum,I’m so sorry and thank you for all you have done for me.” She expressed her sincere apology and great gratitude.Hearing this, her mother smiled patting her back gently.
