Internet Has Changed Our Everyday Life 文章出处:https://www./ The Internet has turned our existence upside down. It has revolutionized communications, to the extent that it is now our preferred medium of everyday communication. In almost everything we do, we use the Internet. Ordering a pizza, buying a television, sharing a moment with a friend, sending a picture over instant messaging. Before the Internet, if you wanted to keep up with the news, you had to walk down to the newsstand when it opened in the morning and buy a local edition reporting what had happened the previous day. But today a click or two is enough to read your local paper and any news source from anywhere in the world, updated up to the minute. The Internet was no longer concerned with information exchange alone: it was a sophisticated multidisciplinary tool enabling individuals to create content, communicate with one another, and even escape reality. Today, we can send data from one end of the world to the other in a matter of seconds, make online presentations, live in parallel “game worlds,” and use pictures, video, sound, and text to share our real lives, our genuine identity. Personal stories go public; local issues become global. The rise of the Internet has sparked a debate about how online communication affects social relationships. The Internet frees us from geographic fetters and brings us together in topic-based communities that are not tied down to any specific place. Ours is a networked, globalized society connected by new technologies. The Internet is the tool we use to interact with one another, and accordingly poses new challenges to privacy and security. I was badly needed a Dictionary Pen for learning English, because it was convenient for me to carry and use. Talking about this with my parents, I was allowed to have one. But there wasn’t any in the local shops. So I decided to buy one online. My father happily let me use his account and guided me hand by hand until the last step. After two days’ wait, I was so excited to get the pen from the delivering man. I couldn’t wait to open the parcel on the way home, reading the instruction hurriedly. Hardly had I got home, I anxious found an English book to test my treasure. It can translate both words and long sentences by simply scanning them, and read them aloud clearly at the same time. In addition, it also has other functions, such as data extract, high quality recording, and handwriting input, etc. I was wild with joy. The moment my father arrived home, I quickly showed him all these functions! Three years passed, but I still remember that moment vividly, just like it had happened yesterday. (203 words)

“Robots are not here to take away our jobs, they’re here to give us a promotion—I think that’s the way we should start looking at AI,” Bhat told reporters on Tuesday.
Gartner’s positive predictions contrast with the warnings on the dangers of AI sounded by top technology industry voices such as Kai Fu Lee, the founder of venture capital firm Sinovation Ventures. He said robots are likely to replace 50 per cent of all jobs in the next decade.
Gartner admitted in its report that AI would cut millions of middle and low level positions. But it stressed that more new jobs would be created, including highly skilled jobs, management positions and even low skilled jobs.
“IT leaders should not only focus on the expected increase of jobs,” the report said. “For the greatest value, focus on improving people with AI. Enrich people’s jobs, reimagine old tasks and create new industries. Change your culture to make it rapidly adaptable to AI related opportunities or threats.”

C. AI will run out of human control. D. New industries will replace old ones.

When you're experiencing cyberbullying (网络欺凌), it can sometimes feel like no-one else understands, and like there’s nowhere to turn for help. 1 If you're wondering how to deal with cyberbullying, then please read on for our strategies.
2 The aim of a lot of cyberbullying is to annoy, upset or confuse the person who is being targeted, so that they react emotionally. If you’re being cyberbullied, keep in mind that the person who’s targeting you wants you to respond. Take that time to give yourself some emotional distance, and think carefully before you respond.
Follow up when you’re calmer
3 The idea at this stage is to get a proper feel for the situation before contacting the person who is cyberbullying you. Using calm language, try to work out the situation with the person without letting him/her get to you. They might not even realize that you interpreted their actions as cyberbullying, so a calm conversation is a good place to start.
Take screenshots
Screenshots are the best way for you to report an instance of cyberbullying. After all, the person who’s cyberbullying you may delete their comment or photo when they realize that it might get them in trouble. 4 Note if you take a screenshot on Snapchat, the other person will be notified that you did so.
Report and block
5 They don’t want you to experience cyberbullying, either, so they have a lot of built-in tools to keep you safe. If you’ve exhausted the reporting and blocking options within your social media platform and things are still really bad, you can make a report to The eSafety Commissioner by filling out the official form. It will works, too. (286 words)
A. Don’t respond immediately.
B. Report it to your teacher quickly.
C. After an hour, you’ll hopefully feel a little calmer.
D. But you're never alone in dealing with cyberbullying.
E. Try your best to respond in your social media account.
F. Most social media sites want to help you feel safe online.
G. Screenshots will ensure you always have a copy of what was said.
D 2. A 3. C 4. G 5. F
上一句说到了“no-one else understands, and like there’s nowhere to turn for help.”(没有人能理解,没地方可求助)。下一句“If you're wondering how to deal with cyberbullying, then read on for our cyberbullying strategies.”(如果你想知道如何应对网络欺凌,那就请阅读我们的应对策略。) D (But you're never alone in dealing with cyberbullying.
从最后两句“If you’re being cyberbullied, keep in mind that the person who’s targeting you wants you to respond. Take that time to give yourself some emotional distance, and think carefully before you respond. (如果你受到网络欺凌,务必记住:针对你的人希望你做出回应。留点时间给自己一些情感上的距离,并在做出回应之前仔细考虑。)两次出现了respond一词,也是一种暗示。故选A,内容上一致。
【3题详解】
由小标题 “Follow up when you’re calmer(冷静后再追查)” 可知,空格处是下一句 “The idea at this stage is to get a proper feel for the situation before contacting the person who is cyberbullying you. (这个阶段的想法就是调整心情,然后联系之前在网上欺负你的人)” 的前提条件。所以选C. After an hour, you’ll hopefully feel a little calmer.
G. Screenshots will ensure you always have a copy of what was said.
空格后“They don’t want you to experience cyberbullying, either, so they have a lot of built-in tools to keep you safe. (他们也不想让你遭受网络欺凌,所以他们会嵌入一些保护工具来确保你安全。)”这个“they”其实只带的就是选项F的“Most social media sites”. 同时“They don’t want you to experience cyberbullying, either, so they have a lot of built-in tools to keep you safe.” 和“F. Most social media sites want to help you feel safe online.”
Disadvantages of the Internet
The Internet has become a necessity these days. Gone are the days when it was only used at work places. Todays it is being used everywhere – at homes, offices, cafes and anywhere we go. While Internet has made life easier and more interesting, it also has a lot of disadvantages attached to itself.
One of the main disadvantages of the Internet is that it serves as a major distraction at work place. Whether it is a student or a working professional everyone these days is addicted to the Internet. While it is a great way to enhance your knowledge and grow professionally it can also distract you from work. As it is said people tend to adopt the bad habits faster, so, instead of making the most of the information available on the Internet to improve their knowledge and skills, people usually fall prey to the numerous sources of entertainment the Internet offers. From QQ to WeChat to TikTok, from gaming to watching videos, from listening to music to overspending while shopping online, from tracking or following their relatives and friends online to copying their lifestyle – people, these days, indulge in such useless activities and their work/studies take a back seat. Apart from this, hacking, junk email, endless ads, online cheating and other such notorious activities have also become quite common.
Does the number of disadvantages of the Internet outweigh its advantages I am looking forward to your opinion. (239 words)
Passage 1 Sometimes it is hard to fall asleep. Maybe you are not sleepy, or maybe you are thinking about what happened during the day. You can also lie awake if a big event, like a test or a party, is happening the next day. There are several things you can do to try and fall asleep. You can try counting sheep, or just counting, which will keep your mind busy with a repetitious activity. Sometimes listening to soft music or gentle sounds, like rain, helps. You can even try telling yourself a story, which may distract your mind enough that you will be asleep in no time. _________________________________________________________________________________________ Passage 2 There are many reasons why I like wearing a uniform to school. First of all, it saves time. I don’t have to spend time picking out my clothes every morning. Wearing a uniform also saves money. It’s cheaper to purchase a new uniform than to go out and buy lots of school clothes. In addition, I don’t have the pressure of keeping up with the latest styles. Most importantly, wearing a school uniform gives me a sense that I belong. I really think that it adds to the feeling of school spirit and community. Anyhow, I am happy that we have to wear a uniform to school. _________________________________________________________________________________________ Passage 3 My first day of college was a disaster. First, I went to the wrong classroom for math. I was sitting in the class, surrounded by people taking notes and paying attention to how to do equations, which would have been okay if I was supposed to be in an algebra class. In reality, I was supposed to be in geometry, and when I discovered my error, I had already missed the first twenty minutes of a one-hour class. When I got to the correct class, all twenty-five students turned and looked at me as the teacher said, "You're late." That would have been bad enough, but in my next class my history teacher spoke so fast I could not follow most of what they said. The only thing I did hear was that we were having a quiz tomorrow over today’s lecture. My day seemed to be going better during botany class, that is, until we visited the lab. I had a sneezing fit because of one of the plants in the lab and had to leave the room. When I finally finished my classes for the day, I discovered I had locked my keys in the car and had to wait for my brother to bring another set. I really the rest will be better. _________________________________________________________________________________________ Passage 4 I’d like to introduce my hometown to you. First, it is noted for the Wheaton River, which is very wide and beautiful. On either side of this river, which is 175 feet wide, are many willow trees which have long branches that can move gracefully in the wind. In autumn the leaves of these trees fall and cover the riverbanks like golden snow. Also, on the other side of the town is Wheaton Hill, which is unusual because it is very steep. Even though it is steep, climbing this hill is not dangerous, because there are some firm rocks along the sides that can be used as stairs. There are no trees around this hill, so it stands clearly against the sky and can be seen from many miles away. The third amazing feature is the Big Old Tree. This tree stands two hundred feet tall and is probably about six hundred years old. These three landmarks are truly amazing and make my hometown a famous place. So we have thousands of tourists every year. My hometown is famous for several amazing natural features. II. Anthony’s teacher, Mr. Rivera, gave the class a different kind of homework assignment. The assignment was to watch the weather report on television every night for a week. Mr. Rivera told the students some things to listen for as they watched each night’s report. He also gave them a worksheet to fill out while they watched. Mr. Rivera said to look at the large weather map that they would see behind the weather reporter. He told them that they might see a large blue line or a large red line on the map. There might be both a blue line and a red line. He said that a blue line is a high pressure area that usually brings dry weather. A red line is a low pressure area that usually brings wet weather. When blue and red lines meet, there usually is stormy weather on the way. On the worksheet there was a box to fill in with the expected high temperature for the next day. There were other boxes to check if it was expected to rain, or to be cloudy, or to be windy. Anthony watched the weather report and filled in the worksheet each night. He noticed that the next day was usually a lot like the report said it would be. One day’s weather map showed a blue line right next to a red line, and the next day there was a rainstorm.
When I was 9, we packed up our home in Los Angeles and arrived at Heathrow, London on a gray January morning. Everyone in the family settled quickly into the city except me. Without my beloved beaches and endless blue-sky days, I felt at a loss and out of place. Until I made a discovery.
Southbank, at an eastern bend in the Thames, is the center of British skateboarding, where the continuous crashing of skateboards left your head ringing. I loved it. I soon made friends with the local skaters. We spoke our own language. And my favorite: Safe. Safe meant cool. It meant hello. It meant don’t worry about it. Once, when trying a certain trick on the beam (横杆), I fell onto the stones, damaging a nerve in my hand, and Toby came over, helping me up: Safe, man. Safe. A few minutes later, when I landed the trick, my friends beat their boards loud, shouting: “ Safe! Safe! Safe!” And that’s what mattered—landing tricks, being a good skater.
When I was 15, my family moved to Washington. I tried skateboarding there, but the locals were far less welcoming. Within a couple of years, I’d given it up.
When I returned to London in 2004, I found myself wandering down to Southbank, spending hours there. I’ve traveled back several times since, most recently this past spring. The day was cold but clear: tourists and Londoners stopped to watch the skaters. Weaving (穿梭) among the kids who rushed by on their boards, I found my way to the beam. Then a rail-thin teenager, in a baggy white T-shirt, skidded (滑) up to the beam. He sat next to me. He seemed not to notice the man next to him. But soon I caught a few of his glances. “I was a local here 20 years ago,” I told him. Then, slowly, he began to nod his head. “Safe, man. Safe.”
“Yeah,” I said. “Safe.” (332 words)

15.【答案】A
根据第一段“Everyone in the family settled quickly into the city except me. Without my beloved beaches and endless blue-sky days, I felt at a loss and out of place. (除了我之外的家里人都很快适应这个城市,没有了我喜爱的沙滩和蓝天,我感到迷茫和无措)” 可知,作者刚到伦敦的时候因为没有喜爱的沙滩,不能很好的融入到新的城市,感到很沮丧。故选A。
根据画线词前文“A few minutes later, when I landed the trick, my friends beat their boards loud, shouting: “ Safe! Safe! Safe!”(几分钟后,当我学会这个技巧时,我的朋友们敲着他们的板子大声喊道:“做得好!做得好!做得好!)”以及后文“And that’s what mattered—landing tricks, being a good skater. (那才是真正重要的——滑板的落地技巧掌握了才是一名好的滑板玩家)”可知,作者掌握了滑板落地技巧,因此他的朋友大声欢呼,因此可以推出本句的Safe是赞美的含义。故选B。
17.【答案】D
【解析】 推理判断题。根据文章第四段“I was a local here 20 years ago,” I told him. Then, slowly, he began to nod his head. “Safe, man. Safe.”

I’ve traveled back several times since, most recently this past spring.

Taking responsibility for mistakes is a positive step, but don’t beat yourself up about them. To err
You can use the following writing
exercise to help you do this.
D“It’s just as important to show yourself some forgiveness. (宽
恕自己也同样重要。) 与“不要太自责”语意相近,起承上启下的作用。故选D。
17【答案】B
根据空前内容“In a journal or on a piece of paper, put the heading “Personal strengths. ” (在日记或纸上写上“个
人优点”。)” 以及空后内容 “Are you caring Creative Generous A good listener Fun to be around They don’t
have to be world-changing, just aspects of your personality that you’re proud of.
B“Now list all the characteristics you like about
yourself.
At the top of a second page, put the heading “Acts of kindness.” On this one, list all the positive
things you’ve done for others. It might be the time when you helped a friend with their homework, when you did
the ironing without being asked, or when you baked cookies after the family had had a tiring day.
F “Whatever it is, no matter how small it might seem, write it
down.
That way, you could exchange thoughts on what makes each of you special and the aspects of your
personality that shine through.(这样,你们就可以交换意见,谈谈是什么让你们每个人都与众不同,以及你们
“They might even like to have a go at doing the exercise. (他们甚至可能想试一试做练习。)” 符合语境,C项中
的“they”与空前的“You could ask a friend or family member to help add to your list. (你可以让朋友或家人帮你
增加你的列表内容。)” 中的“a friend or family member” 保持一致,同时选项C和下文“In fact, don’t wait until
you’ve made a mistake to try this—it’s a great way to boost self-confidence at any time.
根据空前内容“It’s something of a cliché (陈词滥调) that most people learn not from their successes but their mistakes. The thing is, it’s true. (大多数人不是从他们的成功中学习,而是从他们的错误中学习,这是陈词滥调。但事实是,这是真的。)” 可知,作者认为人是从错误中学习。选项G “Whatever the mistake, remember it isn’t a fixed aspect of your personality. (不管你犯了什么错误,记住这不是你性格中固定的一面。)” 符合语境,G项中的“isn’t a fixed aspect of your personality” 和空后内容 “We’ re all changing and learning all the time and mistakes are a positive way to develop and grow. (我们一直在改变和学习,错误是一种积极的发展和成长的方式。)” 保持一致,指的都是犯错并不是性格中固有的一面,我们是通过错误来成长。故选G。

语篇品读 Internet Has Changed Our Everyday Life 文章出处:https://www./ The Internet has turned our existence upside down.
(239 words)
