Can’t find any place on the earth for your next holiday Lucky for you. Space tourism is no longer a thing of science fiction. A California company is going to make it possible for you to take a vacation in space by building a hotel in orbit(轨道).
The Orbital Assembly Corporation plans to build Voyager Station, a space hotel that includes rooms for tourists, in 2026, and open it in 2027. It will be able to carry up to 400 people.
The space hotel will be shaped like a large wheel, with 24 space pods(舱) around it. Each pod is 24 meters long and 12 meters wide. The pods will be used for restaurants, rooms for tourists, laboratories(实验室) for research and so on.
The company says that some pods will even be private homes that people can buy. “Finally, going to space will just be another choice for people’s vacation, just like going to Disney World,” said Tim Alatorre, senior architect of the space hotel. He said that the space hotel may even include a concert hall and a movie theater.
The company says that the space hotel will have gravity that is about one-sixth as strong as the earth’s. The low gravity means people can do things like jump higher, carry heavier things, and enjoy sports such as basketball in a new way.
With the technology rapidly developing, space tourism for common people is around the corner, and it might come much faster than we think. Who knows what the future might be like

The 24 solar terms are decided by changes in the sun’s position during the year. They were first used in China and now are followed in many other parts of the world. In China, the 24 solar terms were created thousands of years ago to guide farmers to work better. They also reflect China’s rich history through the seasonal festivals, special food, cultural activities, family gatherings and even healthy living tips with each solar term.
Rain Water or Yushui is a symbol of the increase in rainfall and rise in temperature. With its arrival, the grass and trees turn green again. This year, Rain Water starts on Feb. 15 and ends on Mar. 5.
There is an ancient Chinese saying, “Rain during the spring time is as valuable as oil”, showing the importance of rain to the plants and farming. Around this period of time, the most important thing for the farmers is timely irrigation(灌溉), especially in northern China where the rainfall is less.
It is an ancient Chinese tradition for daughters to pay a visit to their parents during the day of Yushui. The traditional gifts are a piece of red silk which expresses the best wishes for the parents to have good health and a pot of stewed meat that shows their respect and the gratitude to the parents for raising them as children. And this tradition is kept in many areas across China.
Even though the spring is warmer during Rain Water, it is still a bit early to take off the heavy coat completely and ancient Chinese people said it would be better to keep your coat on for a little longer in the spring because there is usually a returning cold period, especially for elderly and children.
For the Chinese, if Lichun is the beginning of the spring, Yushui is the second step to embrace the warm weather. With the rain, nature comes alive, filling the world with vitality(生机).
56. Why were the 24 solar terms created in China
57. When is Rain Water this year
58. What are the common gifts for daughters to visit parents during Yushui
