Failure isn’t the end, unless you let it be. Don’t believe me Here are four people who lived through failure before going on to become names known around the world.
Walt Disney
Disney began his career by being fired by a newspaper for not being creative enough. Later, his Mickey Mouse cartoons were rejected because they were considered to be “too scary for women”. Thankfully, we have the Disney Company today because Disney chose not to listen to any of his critics and press forward towards his dreams.

Theodor Geisel
This author struggled to write a novel that publishing companies would call “pure rubbish” several times — 27 to be exact. The man just wouldn’t quit, though. Isabel Crook was born into a Canadian family in Chengdu, Southwest China’s Sichuan Province in 1915.While her parents were engaged in setting up schools and education organizations in Southwest China, Isabel herself was more interested in anthropology (人类学) and the ethnic minorities in China. As a foreign girl born in an Asian country that was undergoing great changes, she had every reason to be curious about what was going on around her.
At the age of 23, Isabel graduated from a Canadian college with a master’s degree and began carrying out field research in Sichuan Province. In 1947, Isabel and her husband David Crook were warmly welcomed by the Communist Party of China (CPC) to observe and study the revolutionary land reform taking place in China. In 1948 the couple accepted the invitation from a CPC representative to teach at a newly-built foreign affairs school. The school was the forerunner (前身) of today’s Beijing Foreign Studies University(BFSU). As a teacher at BFSU she laid the foundation for foreign language education in China.
As two of the first three foreign teachers at the school, Isabel and her husband brought new Western teaching methods to the classroom. Michael Crook, Isabel’s second son, noted that since some students were extremely poor during the 1950s and 1960s, his parents were especially sensitive to their situation and did what they could to help them while protecting their self-esteem. For example, they would bring food such as eggs and bread for picnics and share them with students who brought steamed bread of corn.
According to the younger Crook, because of his parents’ belief in communism, they chose to use political texts as their teaching materials, such as works once admired by Karl Marx. Understanding that the students would become diplomats (外交官) representing China, his parents tried to help students gain knowledge in different fields to better prepare them for communicating with foreigners in English.
On December 15th 2018, Isabel got the award of “The Most Influential Foreign Expat during 40 Years of China’s Reform and Opening up” from the Chinese government. On September 17, 2019, Isabel was awarded the Friendship Medal — the highest honor in China for foreigners — for her lifetime of devotion to China.

B.In the 1950s, Isabel’s husband worked as a reporter in China.
C.Isabel made great contributions to China’s foreign language education.
D.Isabel and her husband taught students only in Western ways of teaching.
6.Why did the couple use political texts as teaching materials
A.They believed in communism.
B.They were crazy about Chinese politics.
C.They wanted to spread the spirits of Karl Marx.

Make Up Your Mind to Succeed
Kind-hearted parents have unknowingly left their children defenseless against failure. The generation born between 1980 and 2001 grew up playing sports where scores and performance were played down because “everyone’s a winner.” And their report cards sounded more positive (正面的) than ever before. As a result, Stanford University professor Carol Dweck, PhD, calls them “the overpraised generation.”
Dweck has been studying how people deal with failure for 40 years. Her research has led her to find out two clearly different mind-sets that have a great effect on how we react to it. Here’s how they work:
A fixed mind-set is grounded in the belief that talent is genetic - you’re a born artist, point guard, or numbers person. The fixed mind-set believes it’s sure to succeed without much effort and regards failure as personal shame. When things get difficult, it is quick to blame, lie, and even stay away from future difficulties.
On the other hand, a growth mind-set believes that no talent is entirely heaven-sent and that effort and learning make everything possible. Because the ego (自尊) isn’t on the line as much, the growth mind-set sees failure as a chance rather than shame. When faced with a difficulty, it is quick to rethink, change and try again. In fact, it enjoys this experience.
We are all born with growth mind-sets. (Otherwise, we wouldn’t be able to live in the world.) But parents, teachers, and instructors often push us into fixed mind-sets by encouraging certain actions and misdirecting praise. Dweck's book, Mind-set: The New Psychology of Success, and online instructional program explain this in depth. But she says there are many little things you can start doing today to make sure that your children, grandchildren and even you are never defeated by failure.

I must have looked deep in thought, or as deep in thought as an 11-year-old man can, when my grandmother glanced up from her weeding to ask, "You have something on your mind, don't you "
"Yes, I was thinking that someday I want to be an Olympic speed skating champion like my hero, Eric Heiden, I want to be a doctor like my parents and I want to help children in Africa."
I immediately knew I had confided in the right person when a knowing smile broke across her face. "Johann, of course! You can do anything you want to do!" she said simply. And with my grandmother's support, I set out to pursue my passions.

It happened. Breaking a world record, I won the gold.
As I stood on the podium(领奖台) that I had dreamed about my entire life, a curious question popped into my head. Why me Why did I win, given all the other incredible competitors out there The reason had to be more than a grandmother who shared a belief in her grandson's dream. The question led me to only one answer: because I wanted to make a difference in the world, and with all the media attention on my success, I could.
I immediately knew what that difference had to be: hope in the lives of the children in Africa. Six months earlier, I'd been invited to Eritrea as an ambassador for Olympic Aid.

Peter had been saving money for a very long time. He was struggling so much that all he wished was to go abroad and make more money. So when he reached the required amount he needed for the expenses, he travelled to a foreign country to make a good living.
Upon getting there, Peter worked very hard and finally built his own business. After years of hard work, he became a millionaire. He called his family and informed them that they would not have to worry about money any more for he would be sending them enough and everyone would be happy.
He couldn’t have been proven more wrong!
Five years later, as the business grew, Peter had no time to stay at home and was always busy running his business and attending meetings.
He missed his family. He hadn’t seen them in four years. Every year he promised himself that he would go and visit them but that promise was broken at every attempt to accomplish it for one business reason or another. But his family were understanding and never complained. Peter had thought that money would make his life good but now that he had more money than he ever imagined, he was not happy. He was tired of trying to pretend that he was happy with his projects and work.
Sometimes he wanted to leave the country and the business and go back to his old life, but the thought of not being able to survive if he left his business stopped him.
When he met his family a few years later, it was only for a few days. His family wanted him to stay longer but he didn’t. At the same time, he was given the most difficult and challenging task during his career whose completion would not only improve his image but also result in him earning millions of dollars. This work kept him quite engaged that he gave his mind wholly to the task. His hard work resulted in great profit and he was more successful than ever before.
To celebrate his success, he threw a big party.

As far as I am concerned, determination is very important in our lives. It not only encourages us to move forward, but also enables us to face difficulty bravely. Thus we can stick to our goals and succeed. It is not easy to cultivate determination. Above all, we must hold a strong belief that everyone has the potential to achieve success. We shouldn’t be discouraged when faced with setbacks.
Actually, failure can teach us a lot. What’s more, there are quite a few people with this spirit around us. We can learn a lot from them.
