In1665, Johannes Vermeer, one of the greatest painters in Netherlands, completed his masterpiece “Girl With a Pearl Earring.” On an April day 357 years later, Janine Strong slowed her bike to stop, paused her fitness app, and watched as the snaking line of her cycling route drew the shape of Vermeer’s masterpiece
over the streets of Brooklyn.
Ms. Strong creates what has come to be known as “GPS art” — a practice that uses the Global Positioning System mapping capabilities of modern phone apps to create digital drawings with an athlete’s route. It has grown with the widespread availability of satellite tracking for use by ordinary people. In fact,
the idea has been around since before the popularity of smartphones for fitness like Strava released in 2009.
In 2003, The New York Times Magazine told of how Jeremy Wood got the idea for GPS art. Mr. Wood said while he was using a GPS tracker on a flight and the plane flew in a holding pattern above Heath-row Airport, he was attracted by the pattern appearing on his Garmin GPS device. In recent years, technology has
advanced enough to create visual maps in real time using a phone or smart watch.
“I get bored cycling on the same path in the same streets,” Ms. Strong said. “Creating GPS art gives me more reasons to hit the pavement, which makes cycling a lot easier. I always have a big smile on my face
when it works out and I upload it and it’s done,” she added. “It’s a very satisfying feeling.”
To complete her digital vision of “Girl With a Pearl Earring,” she biked almost 50 miles around southern Brooklyn, carefully checking Strava to make sure each turn, circle, and straight line was achieving the shape
of earring and head covering of Vermeer’s original.
4 .What can we infer about Janine Strong in paragraph1
A .She tests a fitness app. B .She is an innovative cyclist.
C .She likes pearl earrings. D .She is a painter of some note.
5 .What information can we get about GPS art

A small device no bigger than a toaster has generated oxygen on the surface of Mars, bringing the
chances of surviving on the red planet a step closer.
The Mars Oxygen In-Situ Resource Utilization Experiment, better known as Moxie, has been generating
oxygen from the atmosphere on Mars, as part of Nasa’s Perseverance rover (漫游者)mission.
Moxie produced breathable oxygen in seven hour-long tests conducted in various weather and atmosphere conditions since landing. During each test, the device produced six grams of oxygen, about the same as a small tree and enough to sustain an astronaut for 15 minutes. It’s also found that even in extreme
temperatures and after a Martian dust storm, Moxie continued to produce high-purity oxygen.
“This is the first demonstration of actually using resources on the surface of another planet and transforming them chemically into something that would be useful for a human mission,”said Jeff Hoffinan,
a retired astronaut and professor at MIT.
Nasa and the MIT team are planning to build a bigger version of Moxie, as they hope advanced models will produce enough oxygen to support a crewed mission to Mars. “We have to bring a lot of stuff from Earth to support a human mission, but oxygen is a big problem. If you can make it there, go for it and you’re way
ahead of the game,” Hoffinan said.
The device uses pumps that absorb in carbon dioxide which is heated to 800 ℃ and processed to separate the carbon and oxygen. Carbon monoxide(一氧化碳)is emitted as waste while the pure oxygen is left behind.
Expanding the device to support a human mission to Mars presents challenges. It is needed to run
continuously for 400 days, a leap from the one-hour tests and its inner temperature should be controlled stably. Moxie has proved to endure the extreme conditions on Mars, however, and the team plans to assess the machine’s limits in the coming months when atmosphere is thick and carbon dioxide levels are high. They
say they just want to set everything as high as they dare and make as much oxygen as they can.
8 .What can we learn about Moxie
A .It works well in a series of tests.
B .It aims to purify breathable oxygen.
C .It is stopped by extreme conditions.
D .It produces oxygen enough for a team.
9 .By quoting Hoffinan’s words in Paragraph 5, the author intends to .
A .present a plan to further explore Mars
B .demonstrate Nasa’s ambition to win the game
C .show the plentiful and useful resources on Mars
D .highlight the significance of making oxygen on Mars
10 .Which of the following best describes the team according to the last paragraph
A .Cautious and ambitious. B .Confident and intelligent.
C .Practical and independent. D .Courageous and imaginative.
11 .What can be a suitable title for the text
A .A Nasa Mars rover landed successfully.
B .Challenges for a human mission to Mars.
C .Human survives with oxygen made on Mars.
D .A little oxygen on Mars, a great leap forward.

NASA has made history today, conducting the very first powered flight on another planet. The Mars Helicopter Ingenuity ( 机智号) successfully took to the Red Planet skies for a brief journey, which will
hopefully be the first of several.
Along with accumulating 30 minutes and 48 seconds of flight time, the helicopter has traveled over the
surface a distance of 2.2 miles, flying as high as 12 meters and as fast as 5 meters per second.
Flying a craft for a few seconds might not sound like too big an accomplishment, but it’s quite a
remarkable achievement of engineering. Ingenuity is flying in conditions unlike any possible on Earth - the gravity on Mars is only one-third as strong as Earth’s, and the atmosphere is extremely thin, at just one percent the density compared to the bined with the extreme cold and a lengthy radio delay, the
mission has got a lot that can go wrong.
And it already has. After surviving its first cold night on Mars, Ingenuity was set to take off on April 11, but a software error during a high-speed spin test of its rotors (螺旋桨) on April 9 threw a spanner in the works. After troubleshooting the issue, NASA developed a fix and beamed a software update to the Red Planet. If all goes to plan, NASA will conduct a few more flights over the next few weeks, sending Ingenuity
higher and farther each time.
“Now, 117 years after the Wright brothers succeeded in making the first flight on our planet, NASA’s Ingenuity helicopter has left this amazing footprint of success on another world,” says Thomas Zurbuchen, NASA Associate Administrator for Science. “While these two symbolic moments in NASA history may be separated by time and 173 million miles of space, they now will forever be linked. To show respect for the two bicycle makers from Dayton, this first of many airfields on other worlds will now be known as Wright
Brothers Field, in recognition of the ingenuity and creativity that continue to encourage exploration.”
12 .What makes the flight of Ingenuity on Mars challenging
A .The bad air quality on Mars.
B .The doubled gravity on Mars.
C .Both severe cold and not punctual radio.
D .The changing weather conditions of Mars.
13 .Which of the following best explains “threw a spanner in the works“ underlined in paragraph 4
A .Caused problems. B .Found faults.
C .Repaired damage. D .Solved crisis.
14 .Why are the Wright brothers mentioned by Thomas Zurbuchen
A .To encourage more airplane designs.
B .To promote the spirit of ingenuity and creativity.
C .To recognize the great contributions of the Wright brothers.
D .To highlight the meaningfulness of the Ingenuity’s journey to Mars.
15 .Which is the most suitable title for the text
A .A Successful Exploration on Mars
B .A Promising Future of Ingenuity Helicopter
C .NASA’s Ingenuity Helicopter Faces Great Challenges
D .NASA’s Ingenuity Helicopter Makes Historic First Flight

75 years after humans successfully put their first object into space, it’s much easier to launch a satellite, but a lot messier once we’re up there.” 16 There are around 5000 satellites in orbit with fewer than half actually working. When a satellite stops functioning, it keeps orbiting at very high speeds, making a
great threat for the useful ones.
So space sustainability has become a big concern. 17 One suggested solution is to refuel the dead satellites and bring them back to life. Another concept is to use a robot with four arms to catch a dead
satellite before pulling it into the atmosphere to burn it up.
18 Operating a robot from hundreds of miles away is tough. And the world hasn’t yet reached a consensus (共识) on why we should clear the space junk and there are no real rules that govern how we
work out there.
First why should we keep things clean in orbit We use satellites to check the weather, find our way around, and for financial purposes. Space data gives us not just beautiful pictures of the earth, but also information about climate change, natural disasters and other things that can help humans with earthbound
challenges. 19
Then how can we humans think as one big community Governments should make powerful panies ought to engage in shared practices and scientists are expected to think up practical methods. 20 Only in this way can we keep those orbital highways open for the next generation and
beyond before they are deadly blocked by space junk.
A .They provide services closely related to our life.
B .This is hard both technically and politically, though.
C .Anyway, we should quicken the pace of clearing up.
D .Space is getting increasingly crowded and dangerous.
E .So we depend largely on space and it needs to be tidied up.
F .Scientists are struggling for strategies to tackle the problem.
G .All of these have been integrated into the solutions we really need.

TikTok, a social media app dedicated to short-form videos, has emerged as a major firer of food trends — from mushroom coffee and pancake cereal to cloud bread and feta pasta. But another trend, the
#whatieatinaday trend, is dominating TikTok, which is nearing 9 billion 21 .
Even though #whatieatinaday posts may be 22 to serve as healthy inspiration for others, there’s a growing feeling that these video diaries of daily eats will likely do more harm than good —
especially among young girls or people with a history of disordered eating.
The 23 message these posts send is that if you eat like them, then you can eventually look like them. Yet what someone else eats in a day doesn’t mean it’s right for you, since these “ 24 ” videos
are not a completely accurate representation of what someone typically eats.
Often the overly stylized (程式化) meals do not 25 a nutritionally adequate diet. The posts are
26 the illusion (幻想) of an ideal day of eating, along with an ideal body size.
Younger audiences, especially girls and young women, internalize the message that they must eat like these creators to achieve and maintain not only health, but also social 27 . The biggest harm with this trend is that it normalizes disordered or 28 eating behaviors. This could prevent someone
struggling with an eating disorder from 29 support or treatment.
Even if the #whatieatinaday posts are displaying a 30 day of eating, the subtext message of “eat like me, and you will look like me” is harmful because people will not necessarily achieve the same
body size as the 31 even if they copied their day of eating bite for bite.
32 , what might be a healthy, adequate day of satisfying meals for one person may be inadequate and unsatisfying to another. Even worse, someone looking at these posts may conclude that they
need to be eating half as much to 33 .
People making these videos are overwhelmingly thin, young, able-bodied and white. There is a complete
lack of body 34 . And this encourages harmful comparisons to unrealistic body standards that are 35 to the vast majority of people. Therefore, those of us from marginalized communities are once again unable to see positive representations of our varying bodies, foods and cultural representation
in these harmful posts.”

第二节(满分 25 分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
I ran after the train, shouting, “Hey mister, can’t you see me ” It was hopeless, as no conductor is going to slow down for a 60-year-old man who got to the station several minutes late. They absolutely didn’t know how important that day, that train ride was to me! I was on my way to an interview for what could have been
the opportunity of a lifetime.
I threw both my hat and my art case down in depression, and sat down on the nearest chair, wiping (擦 掉) the sweat from my face and breathing heavily. I would have to wait a whole day for the next train, and by then my appointment with the gallery owner would have given up on me. Perhaps it was for the best. It was, after all, the first time in 40 years anyone had shown such an interest in my art. Maybe if the gallery
owner had seen all my paintings, he would have changed his mind about offering me space on his walls.
Disappointment filled my soul. Should I dial the gallery and get an interview on a different day But Pierre Gianni was the owner of the most well-known gallery in New York City. Why would he give a rare
second chance to an elderly nobody when he had the newest, coolest young artists to choose from
Come to think of it, perhaps these insecurities were the very reason I had never been offered a show before. I was too afraid to try. I found countless excuses not to offer my work up to be seen and perhaps
criticized. I told myself it would hurt too much if I failed, but the truth was that I had never tried.
Finally, I gathered all my courage to dial the gallery, only to find my antique cell phone had broken
down. It was at the very moment that I was in total despair and decided to go home.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为 150 左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Suddenly I felt a touch on my shoulder.

The Power of Reading
Reading is an essential part of our lives. It allows us to explore new worlds, gain knowledge, and develop our imagination. Reading is not only a source of entertainment but also a means to expand our minds and
broaden our horizons.
One book that I particularly enjoy is “To Kill a Mockingbird” by Harper Lee. This classic novel set in the 1930s American South tells the story of a young girl’s coming of age and her father’s battle against racism
and injustice.
I love this book because it is a timeless masterpiece that is still relevant today. It tackles important
themes such as racial inequality, social injustice, and moral courage.

Paragraph 1:
Suddenly I felt a touch on my shoulder. I turned around and saw an old man smiling gently at me. He told me that he had noticed the trouble which I was in and offered to lend me his phone. I wanted to express my heartfelt gratitude to him but words got stuck in my throat. Taking the phone he passed to me, I managed to collect myself and plucked up my courage to dial Pierre. After what seemed like an eternity, the phone
was picked up. To my great relief, Pierre agreed to postpone the interview.
Paragraph 2:
The next morning I got to the gallery on time. I was staring at its grandeur when Pierre approached and welcomed me warmly. Several minutes later, with trembling hands I opened my art case and showed him my paintings one by one. Pierre fixed his eyes on my works with interest, listening to me attentively. Time ticking by, I grew more and more confident and excited. He loved my works! They were scheduled to be exhibited one month later! I was never more certain that what seems far beyond is simply a leap away if you dare to
give it a try.
