Ⅰ.阅读理解
Tuochao Chen looks surprised. Then he looks mad. Then he makes a face like he is thinking. As Chen changes his expressions, he wears a strange set of headphones(耳机). The headphones don't have speakers for playing music. Instead, they have tiny cameras. The cameras are pointed at Chen's cheeks(脸颊). They are connected to a computer program. They take images of how Chen's cheeks are moving. Then, the program guesses what kind of face Chen is making. It is good at making these guesses.
Chen is testing a new invention. It is called C-Face. Chen came up with the idea. The " C" stands for contour(轮廓). The contours of your face are the sides of your cheeks. The name is also a joke. After all, C-Face can " see" your face! C-Face even works when you wear a mask.
Chen is a student at Cornell University in New York, US. He is working on C-Face with a team. They are building C-Face using something called deep learning. This is when a computer program is given a huge amount of information, the computer stores the information. It uses the information to find patterns. This allows the computer to make guesses. Their goal is to invent technology that can understand people. Right now, our phones and computers cannot tell what we feel. But that may change over time. Soon, more of them may understand us as the way C-Face does.
Some day you may use a program like C-Face every day. It will be a new way to show how you are feeling. You cannot buy C-Face yet. The scientists are still working on it.
