What is an ice storm
A type of winter storm characterized (以……为特征) by freezing rain, also known as a glaze event, or in some parts of the United States, as a silver thaw.

A. Read and answer the questions below.
1 Why was the storm in 1998 unusual in Canada
2 What problems did the ice storm cause
Because it was not ordinary rain—it turned to ice as it fell through the cold air. It rained for six days and as much as ten centimetres of ice collected on roads, trees and power lines.
It caused many power lines to fall down and many people had no electricity. It also made the roads dangerous to walk or drive on. In addition, many homes were damaged and many people lost their businesses.
3 Did the trouble end when the ice storm stopped Why or why not
*4 What did the people of Montreal find when they woke up on the morning of 5th January 1998
*5 What damage did the disaster cause Give some examples.
They found they had no electricity in their homes.
Some families had no electricity for a whole month. Many homes were damaged and many people, especially farmers, lost their businesses.
No. Because the huge amount of ice made the whole area very dangerous. As the ice started to melt, it fell from the roofs of buildings and trees like knives. Most of the power lines were so badly damaged that they could not be repaired.
