Before coming to China, the Great Wall held a mysterious and poetic quality for me. I had seen it in photos, in films and read about it in books, but my first experience of the wall gave me a very different impression. In 2014, I visited the Badaling section, certainly an attractive place with some incredible views, but perhaps due to the large number of tourists, the massive restorations and tourist facilities, it felt far different from the impression I had built up in my mind.
I have been to many different sections of the wall since then, but none have matched my high expectations until the recent National Day holiday. I decided to hike along the Jiankou section of the wall which rises more than 1,000 meters above sea level, and camp overnight to be able to take in both the sunset and sunrise.
Arriving at the top of the path, the only access point to get on to the wall itself was a ladder made of tree branches tied together with string. I climbed to one of the highest points on the wall in order to catch the sunset. Being completely alone on this unique and dangerous section of the wall, witnessing the sunset behind the mountains, was a truly unique experience.
I woke up expecting to be able to catch the sunrise, however, my weather app failed me. Getting out of the tent, I could hardly see my hand in front of my face as the whole area was covered in a thick fog. I made the decision to climb back to the top of the wall. The vast mountains with the wall cutting a path along them became visible for a few brief moments as the gusts of wind parted the clouds. In that moment, the image of the wall I had built up in my mind was finally realized. The combination of raw nature, geography and architecture are all in balance with one another. Undoubtedly, I will return to the wall and seek out new paths, but this experience will be matchless.

26.What did the author think of the Great Wall in the last paragraph
A.Disappointing. B.Terrible. C.Ordinary. D.Amazing.
27.What does the author want to tell us by sharing his experiences
A.Nature reveals its true beauty of the Great Wall.
B.Foreign visitors should have a trip to the Great Wall
C.More attention should be paid to the protection of Heritage sites.
D.Parts of the Great wall have suffered from tourism in recent years.
The familiar smell of garlic (大蒜) and onion filled the air as I opened my lunch bag to see what my mom had packed for me. On any other occasion, I would have been delighted to eat my mom’s pan-fried tofu: a Chinese dish that I often ate for dinner. But not today, the day a nice girl had invited me, the new girl at school, to sit with her friends during lunch.
As I prepared to walk over to the table, memories of elementary and middle school lunchtimes resurfaced. I remembered my embarrassment as my friends would hold their noses when I brought homemade Chinese food.
I had argued with my mom that I wanted “normal” food for lunch and she gave in. So from then on, my mom packed non-Chinese food like ham and cheese sandwiches. However, that day, she was in a rush and packed me leftovers (残羹剩菜) from dinner.
As soon as I got to my new lunch table, I tried to hide my lunch bag down under my seat. I sat quietly, trying not to be noticed when Katrina, a new acquaintance (认识的人), asked where my food was. “I’m not really hungry,” I replied in an insecure voice. But Katrin a had already seen me carry my lunch so she spoke out, “Then, I’ll eat it!”
I didn’t want to be rude to a potentially new friend, so I reluctantly (不情愿地) dragged out my lunch bag. I expected the girls to turn away—and turn me away. What I did not expect was that Katrina instantly grabbed a small piece of tofu and ate it. My new friends were surprised by the fact that tofu could actually taste good. While I didn’t get to eat any of my mom’s pan-fried tofu, I was full of pride and gratitude.
When I arrived home, my mom noticed that the container was empty. She hesitated before asking “How was the food ” I paused a moment before I replied, “Perfect, mom. If possible, can I still have pan-fried tofu for lunch tomorrow ”

D.Because she argued with her mom about “normal” food for lunch.
30.How did the author feel after her new friends all tasted the tofu
A.Surprised and embarrassed. B.Reluctant and unexpected.
C.Rude and hesitant. D.Proud and grateful.

D.The author had expected that Katrina grabbed a small piece of tofu and ate it before.
The old saying “Use it or lose it” doesn’t appear to be true when it comes to someone’s ability to preserve and use a foreign language, a new study has revealed.
The research team tasked almost 500 British people who had taken French GCSE or A-level between the 1970s and 2020 with completing a French vocabulary and grammar test. They included a survey of whether participants had used their French knowledge over the years since their exams, and excluded (排除) anyone who had studied a language later on in life.
They found that participants who had taken their exam 50 years ago and not used French since performed at the same level as recent school leavers, and as well as those who used French occasionally.
Lead researcher Monika Schmid said: “The knowledge of language is astonishingly stable over long periods of time, compared to other subjects such as maths, history or science. This is likely because of the way language is stored in memory. Vocabulary is memorized in the same way that facts, dates and names are, while this memory may become weaker over time, and grammar is learned in a similar way to riding a bike, a kind of muscle memory, which is much more stable. Vocabulary knowledge on the other hand, exists in a highly connected network, which means that we need only be reminded of a word that sounds similar to a foreign language word for our brain to recall it.”
“Many people are put off revisiting languages they once learnt as they fear they will be forced to relive (重温) some of the more ‘boring’ element s of the courses, such as grammar, but our work suggests that this would not be necessary. We hope that it might encourage more people to pick foreign languages back up if they know it would only take a short amount of time in refresher lessons to bounce back to their original level,” Schmid added.
32.What did the researchers ask the participants to do
A.Take a French exam. B.Conduct a survey in French.
C.Learn French from recent school leavers. D.Talk about their French GCSE experience.
33.What can help us recall a foreign word
A.A fact related to it. B.Our muscle memory.
C.The grammar of the language. D.A similar-sounding word.
34.What can we infer from Schmid’s words in the last paragraph
A.Years of use promises fluency in a foreign language.
B.One is able to quickly and easily re learn a language.
C.The boring elements of a language course are important.
D.Refresher lessons are necessary in picking foreign languages back up.
35.Which of the following statements may the author agree with
A.Language tests truly matters at school.
B.If you don’t use a language, you’ll lose it.
C.Knowledge of foreign languages can last a lifetime.
D.Grammar is the most important part in language learning.

Christmas Eve, my husband and our three children gathered in the living room. The presents were wrapped under the tree. Everything was perfect except one thing was missing the star on the top of the Christmas tree.
Lilly and Brandon were born first, and decorating the tree soon became the focus of our Christmas traditions. We would lift one of the kids up high to put the star on top. “The star that shone with promise,” I told the kids. The two kids took turns to do this important job.
Then Finn was born. He was a happy baby, until Matt and I noticed something odd when he was 14 months old. He didn’t interact with us anymore. Then, his autism (自闭症) diagnosis came out. How to be the family Finn needed us to be In so many situations, I didn’t have an answer.
Finn turned three years old, and I hoped he was ready to take part in adding the final touch to our tree. It would be his first time, a chance to connect with us through this tradition. Matt took the older kids’ hands and stepped back to give us some room. I took the star from its box. “Here, Finn,” I said, putting the star in his little hand. “It’s your turn to put this on the top of the tree!” I went to pick him up. Finn didn’t seem to understand. He threw the star on the floor and twisted in my arms.
“Finn,” I said, “It’s okay, honey.” Still, he fought me. Finally, I put him down. I wanted to try again, but he ran away. “Finn!” I called after him, but he ignored me.
“Give him time,” Matt said. It didn’t feel right to let Lilly or Brandon place the star instead. It was Finn’s turn, and I didn’t want to leave him out. So, the tree remained starless that Christmas. In that moment, the image of the wall I had built up in my mind was finally realized. The combination of raw nature, geography and architecture are all in balance with one another.(一阵风吹散了云朵,在那短暂的片刻里,我们看到了那座巨大的山脉,山墙在山脉上划出了一条小路。 故选A项。

由第二段第二句“I remembered my embarrassment as my friends would hold their noses when I brought homemade Chinese food.(我记得我的尴尬,因为当我带来自制的中国菜时,我的朋友们会捏着鼻子。)可推断,结合划线句“As I prepared to walk over to the table, memories of elementary and middle school lunchtimes resurfaced. (当我准备走到桌子旁时,我对小学和中学午餐时间的记忆resurfaced)”中的resurfaced的意思是“重新出现”,与appear again是同义词。故选B。
2. 细节理解题。由第二段第二句“I remembered my embarrassment as my friends would hold their noses when I brought homemade Chinese food. (我记得当我带自制中国菜时,我的朋友们捂着鼻子的那种尴尬)”可知,小学和中学的午餐时间,每当“我”带妈妈做的煎豆腐时,朋友们都因为它散发出的洋葱和大蒜的味道捂着鼻子。因此“我”害怕像以前那样感到尴尬,一到达新的午餐桌就试图把我的午餐盒藏起来。故选C。
3.细节理解题。由第五段的最后一句“While I didn’t get to eat any of my mom’s pan-fried tofu, I was full of pride and gratitude.(虽然我没有吃到我妈妈的煎豆腐,但我充满了骄傲和感激)可知,在新朋友品尝了豆腐后,作者感到骄傲和感激,故选D。
If possible, can I still have pan-fried tofu for lunch tomorrow (完美,妈妈。如果可能的话,我明天还能吃煎豆腐吗 )”可知,作者感觉食物很好,想要请妈妈再做,因此推断作者将很高兴未来午餐吃煎豆腐。故选A。

根据第二段“The research team tasked almost 500 British people who had taken French GCSE or A-level between the 1970s and 2020 with completing a French vocabulary and grammar test.”(研究小组要求近500名在20世纪70年代至2020年间参加过法语GCSE或A-level考试的英国人完成法语词汇和语法测试)可知,研究小组要求参与者完成法语词汇和语法测试,即参加法语考试。故选A。
根据第四段Monika Schmid所说的“Vocabulary knowledge on the other hand, exists in a highly connected network, which means that we need only be reminded of a word that sounds similar to a foreign language word for our brain to recall it.”(另一方面,词汇知识存在于一个高度连接的网络中,这意味着我们只需要被提醒一个听起来与外语单词相似的单词,我们的大脑就能记住它)可知,一个发音相似的单词能够帮助我们记忆外语单词。故选D。
根据最后一段Schmid所说的“We hope that it might encourage more people to pick foreign languages back up if they know it would only take a short amount of time in refresher lessons to bounce back to their original level.”(我们希望这能鼓励更多的人重新学习外语,如果他们知道只需要很短的复习时间就能恢复到原来的水平)可推知,Schmid认为一个人可以通过短时间复习就能恢复原来的外语水平。故选B。
根据第一段的研究结果“The old saying “Use it or lose it” doesn’t appear to be true when it comes to someone’s ability to preserve and use a foreign language, a new study has revealed.”(一项新研究显示,当涉及到一个人保存和使用外语的能力时,“用进废退”这句老话似乎并不正确)可知,新研究并不认同语言学习中的“用进废退”理论,结合研究员Monika Schmid所说的“The knowledge of language is astonishingly stable over long periods of time, compared to other subjects such as maths, history or science.”(与数学、历史或科学等其他学科相比,语言知识在很长一段时间内的稳定性令人惊讶)可知,该研究认为语言学习记忆具有长期的稳定性,所以作者可能同意B选项“Knowledge of foreign languages can last a lifetime(外语知识有可能受用一生)”的说法。故选C。

Among all the traditional Chinese foods, my favorite is undoubtedly zongzi which people eat on the day of Dragon Boat Festival in memory of Qu Yuan, a famous poet.
The main ingredient of zongzi is sticky rice, but there are a variety of fillings, such as meat and eggs. It usually appears in the shape of a triangle. The taste of zongzi varies from region to region. There are mainly two versions: sweet or salty. But nowadays, young people are open to a mixture of different tastes.

Matt brought some presents to the living room for the kids besides the starless tree. Lilly and Brandon were practically shouting with excitement. “Come on, Dad!” “Let’s do this!” I cast a glance at Finn, still playing on his own. With a sigh, I sat down on the couch. I thought Finn might get to his gifts in his own time. Lilly and Brandon surrounded their father while he sorted the presents. Suddenly, Finn came up to me. He pulled on my sleeve to get my attention. Finn pointed to the top of the tree.
“You want to put the star on the top ” I asked, looking where his finger was pointing. Finn nodded. I hurried to the basement and got the star. I handed him the star. He gripped it tightly and determinedly. I could feel the other kids holding their breath. Matt raised Finn onto his shoulders for a good reach. My heart pounded. Finn held on to the star. “Go, Finn! You can do it!” Lilly and Brandon said. Finn set the star on the top branch and slowly drew back his hand. We all cheered with tears. Finn looked down at us from a top his dad’s shoulders, beaming like a star himself.
