Summer 2022 was a hard time for many. Huge heat waves (热浪) swept across European countries and parts of China. They brought extreme (极端) high temperatures and drought (干旱).
Europe has experienced its hottest summer since 1979. In Spain, temperatures quickly increased past 40℃ and it was one of the hottest summers on record. In Italy and Greece, temperatures hit 38℃ or more. Europe also experienced its most serious drought in 500 years. The dry conditions led to wildfires. The lack of rainfall caused water shortages (缺乏). As a result, water uses became a big problem. Back in China, similar things happened in the summer. Heat waves hit many places across the country. Chongqing’s highest temperature reached 45℃, breaking its historical record. In August, more than 20 forest fires happened in the area.

The climate(气候)doesn’t always stay the same. It changes slowly over hundreds or even thousands of years. In the last 100 years, the global temperature has gone up by about 0.75℃. The Earth’s temperature is getting warmer faster than ever before. As a result of the changing climate, the world’s ecosystems(生态系统)are also changing faster. For example, mangrove forests(红树林)and coral reefs in some parts of the world have been reduced rapidly for years. Increasing temperatures have also led to loss of homes for polar bears.
So what is causing climate change The main cause is the huge amount of greenhouses, but the reason for this is the world’s population. As the population increases, more land is needed to provide food, and more energy is needed. Burning fossil fuels(化石燃料)produces CO2. What’s more, we are cutting down forests for farmland, eating a lot of meat and drinking a lot of milk from cows. All of these activities produce a lot of gases and make the Earth hotter.
No one knows exactly what is going to happen to it in the future. Lots of CO2, and other gases are now in the air and they will continue to make the Earth hotter for hundreds of years. This means that ice will become water, so seas will rise and some places will be under water. The weather will be worse and there will be more storms.
It sounds very bad, but it is possible to help stop these changes to our climate. We need to stop burning fossil fuels and get enough energy from renewable fuels like solar energy, hydroelectric(水力发电)energy or wind power to reduce the amount of CO2 in the air. We can also travel less in planes, eat less meat and make changes at home to use less energy. We must do something before it is too late.
1.In Paragraph 1, how does the writer tell us the results of the climate change
A.By asking questions. B.By listing numbers.
C.By giving examples. D.By comparing reasons.
2.Why is the global climate changing more quickly
A.Because mangroves have been more in some places.
B.Because the population of the world has increased a lot.
C.Because seas have risen and some places have been under water.
D.Because people start to use renewable energy instead of fossil fuels.
3.What does the underlined word “it” refer to
A.The climate. B.The gas. C.The sea. D.The population.
4.Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage
A.The world’s ecosystems will surely become worse in the future.
B.There will be fewer storms because of CO2 and other gases.
C.Solar energy, hydroelectric energy and fossil fuels are renewable fuels.
D.Eating less meat is one of the ways to help stop the rapid climate change.
5.What is the main purpose of writing this passage
A.To tell us how the global temperature goes up every year.
B.To make us know about the reasons of the climate change.
C.To tell us what is going to happen to the climate in the future.
D.To make us pay attention to the climate change and take action.

It’s commonly known that greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide (CO2) causes global warming. The whole world has made great efforts to improve the situation. Among them, the trees planted in China are playing an important role.
A report published in Nature shows that CO2 absorption (吸收) in two new forest areas in China is more than we thought. The two areas are located in China’s southwestern and northeastern provinces. They make up over 35 percent of China’s carbon sinks. Carbon sinks are natural systems that absorb and store CO2 from the air. The main natural carbon sinks are trees and other plants.
According to Paul Palmer, these provinces have been working on rapid forestation (造林) in large areas. Over the past 10 to 15 years, the forest areas have kept increasing by 400-4,400 square kilometers per year.
China is one of the world’s biggest countries of human-produced CO2, ________. In 1978, China began a national-level forestation project. Many trees have planted in the areas of northern China to act as windbreaks. For example, about one third of the Kubuqi Desert in Inner Mongolia is now covered with trees. In 2019, Alipay’s Ant Forest program planted 122 million trees and won the UN Champions of the Earth award for helping 500 million people live low-carbon lives.
China’s goal is to reach carbon neutrality by 2060. Carbon neutrality refers to removing as much CO2 as one puts into the air. If China’s goal is achieved, it will lower global warming by around 0.2 to 0.3 ℃ alone, according to Climate Action Tracker (CAT).

We usually think that garbage is useless and dirty. However, an art exhibition in 2019 proves that”useless” things can actually be helpful.
Dear Pretty Rubbish, an art event organized by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWFN) and digital media art company Blackbow, was held in Beijing. It looked at wasteful garbage and asked questions about the relationship between our lifestyles and our garbage.
“We hope that everyone who visited the show can think about how ‘useless things’ are produced, why they are tossed out, and whether ‘useless things’ are really useless”, said Cao Yujia, the design director at Blackbow.
Artists Zhou Yuxuan and Liu Yifan collected nylon cable ties, LED lights and plastic bottles from designers’ workshops to create a work where plastics, in the shape of cells, “grow” in a comer. There, the lights blink(闪烁) regularly just like “breathing”. When people walk near it, the work responds by showing light patterns, as if communicating with the visitors.
Speaking about the work, Zhou said: “It’s like some kind of communication between humans and plastics.”
Plastic has a life longer than almost any creature, taking centuries to break down. Though people think plastics damage the environment, they are a big part of our daily lives. “So we want to ask the question: Although the damage continues, is there a way for humans to reconcile (和解) with plastics ” said Zhou.
1.Which phrase can take the place of the underlined phrase “tossed out”
A.worked out B.used up C.thrown away D.put off
2.Which of the following might Zhou agree with
A.Useless things are really useless.
B.Artists should make works from garbage.
C.Plastics should be left to break down on their own.
D.Humans should find a better way to deal with plastics.
3.Which word can best describe the art event
A.Creative B.Wasteful C.Balanced D.Awful
4.Which is the best title of the text
A.Try new ways to reduce garage B.Plastic pollution around us
C.Live peacefully with “garbage” D.Communications between human beings and nature

The Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics was a great success. China has kept the promise to hold a green Olympics. Many green actions made it possible, like providing environmentally friendly smart beds, using new energy(能源) cars, supporting sporting places with 100% clean energy and reusing rain and snow water.
Take making ice as an example. China didn’t use R507, a common material to make ice, because it isn’t friendly enough to the environment. Through 18 months’ hard work, China independently developed the CO direct cooling technology.
A net of tubes runs under the ice. High-pressure liquid(液态) CO goes through them to create heat(热) exchange. The CO evaporates(蒸发) under the ice surface. The evaporation takes in heat and turns water on the surface into ice. And the CO goes into another circle. This technology helps to make ice better and faster. And above all, it is much greener because there’s no new CO produced. Among all the 15 ice sporting places in the Winter Olympics, 7 used the CO direct cooling technology to make ice. As a result, much less pollution was caused.
Beijing did so much more to save energy. Beijing built the new sporting places with green materials. As for the old ones, Beijing used new glass walls to take the place of traditional walls to let more natural light in. 70% of the waste heat was also reused to keep warm and dry. And a large number of new energy cars were used at the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics.
The Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics is the first to truly achieve carbon neutrality(碳中和), and it has set new standards in green technologies. Some newspapers say China has set an example for the world in environmental protection and green development.

Imagine being a business that regularly takes high quantities of your own products worth millions of pounds and burns them up. Your stock(库存)literally goes up in smoke. It sounds crazy, but the practice is common for some of the world’s biggest clothing manufacturers. They argue that it is the most cost-effective way of maintaining their brand’s exclusivity(独特性).
The clothes that are burned are those that do not sell at a high enough price. Rather than watch them go on sale, the companies would set fire to them and regain a small amount of energy.
Nobody knows exactly how much unsold stock is burnt annually by those fashion houses, but burning clothes has various negative impacts on the environment. For example, burning clothes made from artificial fibers may release plastic microfibers into the atmosphere, which worsens global warming. A UK parliamentary committee report on sustainability and the fashion industry advises the government to ban the burning of unsold stock if it can be reused or recycled.
Actually, there are other approaches. What if those companies had a section tasked with taking back unsold clothes, redesigning them into new products, and shipping out the new products to the market once again
There is also now an opportunity to focus on biodegradable(可生物降解的) fabrics. Clothes that break down faster might not have to be burned. They would also appeal to those who care about the environmental impact of their own wardrobes.
Additionally, we have an over-production problem. According to the World Bank, while clothing sales have risen steadily since 2000, clothing utilization has fallen at roughly the same rate. For every extra T-shirt that is sold, it will be worn roughly half as much as it would have been 20 years ago. That means better forecasting market trends would in theory result in less waste.
Burning clothes won’t happen simply through fashion firms. The scale of fashion production has to change. And it’s important to recognize that these consumer-focused brands will only go where the market takes them. If protecting the environment really matters to the public, they have to make clear that they want more sustainable clothing in the first place. Without consumers demanding that, it won’t change.

【分析】文章主要谈论了时装店常烧掉未出售的衣服库存的现象,指出这对环境不好,并提出了处理该现象的方法.
1.细节理解题.根据“They argue that it is the most cost-effective way of maintaining their brand’s exclusivity(独特性).”可知,他们辩称,这是保持品牌独特性的最具成本效益的方式,故选B.
2.主旨大意题.根据“Nobody knows exactly how much unsold stock is burnt annually by those fashion houses, but burning clothes has various negative impacts on the environment. For example...”可知,本段主要是讲为什么时装公司应该停止焚烧未售出的库存,故选B.
3.词义猜测题.根据“According to the World Bank, while clothing sales have risen steadily since 2000, clothing utilization has fallen at roughly the same rate. For every extra T-shirt that is sold, it will be worn roughly half as much as it would have been 20 years ago.”虽然自2000年以来服装销售稳步增长,但clothing utilization却以大致相同的速度下降.每售出一件额外的T恤,其穿着率大约是20年前的一半.所以“clothing utilization”指的是“服装利用率”,故选C.
4.细节理解题.根据“Actually, there are other approaches...and shipping out the new products to the market once again ”可知,这里说的是如果这些公司有一个部门负责收回未售出的衣服,重新设计成新产品,并将新产品再次运送到市场上,排除A;根据“There is also now an opportunity to focus on biodegradable(可生物降解的) fabrics...”可知,有机会关注可生物降解的织物,排除D选项;根据“That means better forecasting market trends would in theory result in less waste.”可知,这意味着更好地预测市场趋势在理论上会减少浪费.排除C选项;故选B.
5.段落大意题.根据“If protecting the environment really matters to the public...Without consumers demanding that, it won’t change.”可知,这里说的是消费者在阻止烧掉衣服方面起着关键作用,故选A.
