Critical thinking
To satisfy their greed, some people overexploit natural resources, hunt varieties of animals, occupy more land to build factories and extend cities unlimitedly, resulting in environmental destruction, ecological unbalance and resource exhaustion. Ultimately, we human beings will pay a terrible price.
What is the difference between “needs” and “greed” How do you understand the quote
Nature has evolved to provide enough to satisfy the basic needs of all living things. However, nature cannot provide enough to satisfy everyone’s greed, because greed is a desire that can never be satisfied.
Earth provides enough to satisfy every man’s needs, but not every man’s greed.

ACTIVITY 5 Reporting on polar bear rescue actions
After knowing the cruel reality of the polar bear’s death and deeply analyzing its causes, I have a lot to express. Although I am not an animal expert who can rescue polar bears directly, I can do something to make it possible to lower the death rate of polar bear indirectly.
Many reasons account for the polar bear’s death. ____________________

Assignment
假如你是李华,你是你校环保社社长,非常关心目前的全球变暖问题。请你写一封倡议信给学校的同学们,提倡“低碳生活”(low-carbon life)。要点如下:
1)说明全球变暖问题,简述其原因;
2)提出具体措施;
3)发出倡议。
注意:需使用课文中黑体字,至少5个,并用下划线划出。
Dear fellow students,
Recent years has witnessed numerous/countless extreme weather events and the increasing number of disasters, which could be part of a new trend linked to human-driven global warming.
In fact, unnecessary carbon dioxide emissions resulting mainly from burning fossil fuels account for the occurrence of global warming. However, it might even be astonishing that every human activity is related directly or indirectly to carbon release, like driving private vehicles, using disposable products and leaving household appliances on, etc. Therefore, for us individuals, in addition to restricting the amount of carbon dioxide by changing our lifestyle, it is equally important to raise our awareness of energy conservation and emission reduction.
I am here again to appeal to all of us to spring into actions to live a low-carbon life, for which every individual effort counts a lot.

Dear fellow students,
Nowadays, the trend of global warming is getting more and more serious due to the excessive exploitation(开发,利用) of natural resources. Therefore, it is necessary that everyone live a low-carbon life.
Initially, taking public transport is preferred to private vehicles, which restricts the emission of carbon dioxide. Additionally, we can stop using disposable plastic bags to mitigate the “white pollution”. Moreover, gabage classification also deserves our attention as it recycles waste materials.
For the sake of (为了) a brighter and cleaner future, let us spring into actions and bring vigor back to our mother earth!
